Hi !
I'm very happy with my Hero, but im kinda tired that HTC hasn't released atleast a 1.6 ROM yet.
Im thinking of flashing a 2.x ROM, but which is the most stable? I use my phone at work, so can't go around and reboot it constantly. Also Exchange mail is a must!
Any tips? (looking at kagu/ckdroid)
CKDroid works great! I find it most stable.
this may be a little early to make the claim of stability but i have been using AOSP 2.1 r1 by jnwhiteh all day, and it has been very stable.
i was using kagudroid before this.

CKDroid is based on it
Why don't you try MoDaCo custom roms? They are android 1.5 but heavely optimised, they're faster then any 2.x rom i've tried.
I'd say CKDroid is the fastest of the 2.X ROMs. And as far as I've tested it up against MoDaCo when it comes to speed, they are quite equal.
Ok, i'll try CKDroid.
I can't seem to see a complete flash guide. Can someone link me?
Is there indeed an offical 2.1 rom coming at some point?

KaguDroid 1.1 by LoxDev is amazing. Fast and stable. Really nice!!
what about hero2.1 v1.8?( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592596)
i want to try a 2.1 rom with sense and i read that this is the most stable...it's true? what about the hero/espresso hybrid?
I find this one the best Sense ROM by far - full albums / camera / bluetooth etc.

Well
I tried MoDaCo 3.1 hours after getting my hero, and about the same length of time later I removed it, it was horrible and I used to get crashes of the "system" process and had to reboot, happened 5-10 times in fewer hours so i switched straight back to a rooted version of the original Hero generic latest ROM.
I might consider givng another senseUI 2.1 option a try before i make my final judgement, but that's just my experience with the MoDaCo one so far.
has anyone tried the new VILLAIN 1.0??? it seems to be almost perfect! i'm gonna try it tomorrow...if anyone has already tried it please tell me how it works!

Running very nicely here, its just missing the htc mail program so no exchange support and a couple of problems with the htc weather program not liking other locations

Yeh I just looked at that, and the exchange and lack of HTC keyboard are the only two things keeping me from flashing to it just yet. (I'm a perfectionist, so it's gotta be perfect before I'll even consider it.)
yes i read those problems...but can be resolved easily...so, when the cook will release the next version, i'll flash instantly! goodnight
I suggest KaguDroid 1.1 or later, or AOSP 2.1-r2 or later, if you can handle a vanilla (no sense ui).
Villain has Sense; which is nice because of Facebook contact sync. All other parts of Sense can be imitated by apps (like the clock/weather can be done by beautiful widgets). There are some other issues with Network Location and there is no included HTC or Android music widget in Villain. Although I prefer the HTC home-screen, I also prefer the Android lock-screen.
KaguDroid includes voice input from the keyboard, so you can use dictation to enter text into a field in ANY app.
Villain doesn't provide the HTC IME keyboard, or voice input (as of today).
Market works without using Market Enabler, for Rogers (Canada) in Kagu/AOSP. SMS incoming timestamps are correct without using SMSfixtimes in Kagu/AOSP.
As far as stability is concerned, I haven't really had issues with any of Villain/Kagu1.1/AOSP2.1-r2

definetely kagudroid..stable and full market!
Hello folks,
I just sold my Touch Diamond 2 and moved to a Desire!
I liked sense on the TD2 very much, but I don't feel like sense adds something valuable to Android. I actually think it makes the phone slower. So I switched to LauncherPro which is a step ahead.
But i'm still thinking of moving to Froyo before the official release to get things really smooth. I wonder if i do this; will android still link my contacts with facebook (the picture) or is this really Sense-related? And will i be able to install sensewidgets afterall?
Also, i've been looking at the Froyo-roms here but after reading FAQ's i still remain with one question: does everything work? Because every rom has a bugfix/progress list. Should I wait till official release?
Thanks!
the contact linking to facebook is a sense thing unfortunately.
you will not be able to use the sense widgets but there are a very large variety of replacements out there on the android market, the 'pure series' to name a few (pure messenger, pure calendar etc)
the only problem there was with froyo roms was a non-working camcorder but this has just recently been fixed, everything on froyo roms are now working
the only bug some users have found is an echo when on the phone to someone, this is believed to be caused by the nexus one noise cancelling mic (as the froyo build for the desire is ported from the nexus one), there are however some work arounds and is not even that much of a problem.
hope this helps
I would wait. Thanks what I am doing. There are too many issues with the Custom 2.2 ROMS, the positives just dont out weigh the negatives.
Just my opinion.
As i still have battery-drain-problems with Froyo-Galaxy-Email.apk (AOSP-Froyo Email.apk v. 2.2.1 and older also) when setting Exchange-Sync not to "Push" i'm wondering if it's possible to use the Gingerbread-AOSP-Email.apk on Froyo.
Has it been tested by anyone yet?

can you please post AOSP Email.apk 2.2.1 for JPU?
I have only 2.2 AOSP Email, which is constantly draining CPU...
Thank you very much.
aosp email 2.2.1 is also draining battery as 2.2...
i hope with gingerbread it's fixed.
you can get latest froyo-email here:

AOSP Email 2.2.1
Did anyone else notice in 2.2.1 from 2.2 that the ability to customize the color per mailbox disappeared? I really find that useful since it decides to make 2 of my accounts nearly the exact same color. And it's always the 2 that get the most email.
Am I missing a setting?
Replying to reactivate this thread. Having the same probs here.. Isn't there a better email client? The old 2.1 one had more functionality
this may be a longshot, but does anyone know of a Froyo Gmail apk that works on Eclair? I'm still a fan of Eclair roms, I feel like I still get better battery life with certain custom kernels. the main thing I miss from having Froyo is being able to increase the font size in Gmail, and I'm not really a fan of K9 mail or Maildroid, or the stock email app. thx.
Just flashed to Skyraider Athena 1.2. build 3.26.605.1 to compare it to Uber Z. So far, so good on standard and installed apps.
Two issues I've detected:
1) Noticed that I cannot do "pinch to zoom" on my Gmail messages. Is that a limitation in this build? Or did I miss a setup step??
2) Emails do not load images automatically -- have to select "show pictures" which is kinda annoying. Any way to set this to happen automagically?
Thanks. I'm learning quite alot on this forum as a newbie...
1). I have noticed that, and I don't remember being able to do this in Gmail. I tried it with CM7 RC1, and no pinch to zoom.
2). I've noticed the sure pictures thing in many of the ROM's I've flashed, so I am pretty sure it is a Gmail thing. Not sure if that can be changed, I don't think it can...
Sent from my Inc
What you're describing seems to be the normal behavior of the GMail app itself. It's worked that way for me in Uber Z, the IncDoes Z port, Athena, Skyraider Sense, and Virtuous.
Both work exactly the same on my Athena build, so that might help rule out user-error. I think it's working as designed.
Skyraider Athena & email issues
Thanks for all the replies to confirm the situation with email client within SkyRaider Athena. Question: would another email client solve this situation (if one exists)? Any recommendations?
BTW, I don't recall having these issues with Uber Z, but then again I think it had a diff email client.
Thanks again.
The other app I use is Enhanced Email, and I've noticed that it does the same two things as stated in the OP. I use it for my Exchange email, and just tried it to no avail.
