Hi All,
I have recently purchased a second handed HTC Desire from a friend. It is a Malaysian Warranty set. However, when i have purchased it, it is already rooted.
I tried to unroot the phone yesterday by running the HTC Asia RUU file but appparently, it failed. Either with Error 131 or Error 140. Tried it with the other HTC WWE RUU file and failed as well.
Then, after some researching, apparently some said i need a goldcard to RUU. I created a goldcard, but the HTC Asia RUU (for Eclair) still fail. But this time, the RUU for WWE (for Eclair) is working and i finally unrooted the phone. However, strange enough, by using the WWE version, my firmware became a EU version, instead of Asia version. I tried running OTA to upgrade to Froyo, and after some problems, it finally updated and again, its EU Froyo instead of Asia FroYo.
I am very sure that this is original Asian Set as i have checked with the Official Distributor here and its stated to be warrantied by them. Thus, why would only EU RUU worked on this? Had i done anything wrong? How can i make it to go back to Asia RUU instead?
Thank you so much for any help. I am already out of idea on what i should do.
What HBOOT are you on and what S/W version?
Hi EddyOS,
My HBOOT is 0.80 when i wanted to unroot. In regards to the S/W version, i personally have no idea. Now, i am on FroYo EU WWE which is HBOOT 0.92 but i was hoping for it to go back to FroYo Asia WWE unrooted. Thanks.
Right, bit of work required here. And it WILL reset the phone...Having said that, try this first...
Download this RUU:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe
And just try and flash that. If it works, happy days and you're on stock Asia FroYo.
If it doesn't work, get your gold card in your phone and follow this guide. Once complete, try the Asia RUU again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Hi EddyOS,
You are indeed a life saver Finally solve my problem here after using the RUU file. All i did was create a GoldCard, and RUU using the FroYo Asia WWE file posted above. Thank you so much for your help.
The gold card should've only been needed to go from the Asia ROM to any other ROM. If your ROM was the WWE one out the box then you'll need the gold card for all future OTA updates so just make your day to day sd card a gold card and be done with it
Well, should i use a gold card, if i accidentally shifted from Asia to WWE and wanted to shift back to Asia? I believe mine is Asian version right out of the box. Since mine is unbranded version and all i wanted to do is RUU back to original, i should not need the GoldCard right?
Its only confusing for me because when i try to unroot back to original using the Asia RUU, its giving me all sorts of Error 140 / Error 131 but no problem when i use a gold card for the WWE version.

Did you make a goldcard properly originally? A gold card will let you flash any stock RUU. The Asia one would have worked if it definitely was an unbranded one from Malaysia. As you said, it was second hand, so don't believe it wasn't debranded by someone else before that.

Hi geejayoh,
As far as goldcard being made previously, that was something that i am not too sure off. I heard from the previous owner that he had rooted the phone, via the GoldCard method (he said, when he root, unrevoked wasn't available yet). Thus, i am wondering whether there is any effect over by the goldcard.
When i try to unroot for the first time, no goldcard is present cause i have removed the SD card itself. I tried it with the RUU Asia Eclair but it failed. Same goes to RUU WWE Eclair. After that, i decide to surf around locating a way to create a goldcard, and try to unroot again. I followed all of the instruction on creating a gold card, downloaded a program that will generate an img file and created it. Used multiple SD cards as well to test all the goldcards and they are all giving the same sign. And again, RUU Asia Eclair failed, even with a gold card. Error generated was either Error 131 or Error 140 (not too sure which one). And when i finally use the RUU WWE Eclair, it was unrooted.
I am 100% sure that this is an unbranded one from Malaysia as i have checked with SIS malaysia (which is the distributor for HTC here in Malaysia) and they have confirmed that my set is under their warranty. So, definitely wasn't debranded. It was just weird to me that the RUU Eclair Asia wasn't working. However, the RUU FroYo Asia was working fine though as guided by EddyOS
Mmm, interesting. Glad you fixed it though!
While we're on the case, can you tell me if the Asia WWE Froyo ROM includes a chinese handwriting IME from HTC?
I've downloaded the rom, but there is no point in installing unless it has the handwriting IME that I want
If you mean whether it can support chinese and perform hand-writting in chinese, then yes. I have checked with 2 Desires (one that is unrooted - and OTAed to Asia FroYo, and another is via the Asia WWE FroYo RUU) and both have hand-writting features. You need to select the handwritting feature via the International Keyboard settings though
Amazing, that's great. I'll be flashing the asia froyo now then!

Hi,
I looked through the stickies and could find an answer, I am getting a bit sick of the chinese symbols that pop up whenever I reboot my handset and also, I would liek to change to WWE rom as they seem to have better benchmarks.
So, I would like to change to WWE rom, but I dont want to root my device or invalidate my warranty. The device is unbranded.
Is this possible if so, can you please point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.
Ps. Im new to Android, so sorry about N00b questions.

Yes, it is possible. I flashed the WWE Official ROM on my new HTC Desire last night (It had the Asian ROM on it by default). To do that, you need to have a Goldcard.
Follow this guide of making Goldcard: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
Once you have the Goldcard, download the official wwe ROM you would like to have, from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Put the Goldcard in the phone and run the downloaded official ROM RUU and DONE

Even mine isn't branded . If you try to flash an official ROM of another region you will get an "Customer ID" error. To avoid that you need Goldcard.
That's how I did it. I was trying to flash WWE on the Asian ROM and it was giving me customer ID error. Once I made the goldcard, the update worked fine

SOunds like you were in the sam situation as me, I will have a look at making a gold card and flashing WWE rom.
Where did you get your WWE 2.1 rom from? All I can find is WWE 1.2 etc.. but no 2.1 Update 1
Also, is there a risk bricking the handset doing this? Also, do think this will void my warranty?
Thanks

I don't think there are chances of bricking the phone. Just follow the steps carefully and make sure you have the HTC Sync installed.
Get the latest ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
this one: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
1.21 is the software version, it is still the firmware 2.1
As for the warranty, I don't think there would be any problem since you are not rooting the phone and you can always put the HK ROM back on it.

OK, thanks, what about readio versions? On my old handset, you had to make sure the correct radio version was flashed? Or does these flash radio and OS rom?
Hi,
I brought my UK Desire sim-free, and apparently unbranded. There are no network-related apps anywhere, or a network startup logo.
However, my software number is 1.19.161.5, which is I believe is the latest update for branded phones. 1.21 being the last update for unbranded phones before FroYo?
There are no updates available when checking manually, and I've also tried using the update.zip files from the HTC liveimage URL (both 1.21 and FroYo), both of which fail with the fingerprint error.
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on here?
Thanks,
Rich
I know someone who was on Vodaphone SIM-FREE with that version number. He successfully debranded with a goldcard to 1.21, and then upgraded via OTA.
Sounds like you might actually have a Vodaphone ROM:
List of ROMs and version numbers here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
161 doesn't look like unbranded, 405 is WWE which works for sure (receives OTA).
If you want it now, create a gold card, debrand with RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_T2_Radio_32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09_release_137222_signed, keep the goldcard in, get the froyo OTA update. If something goes wrong, downgrade back to 1.21.405.2 and do the factory reset, remove sim and enter flight mode before installing the update.
Cheers guys, will give the goldcard approach a try tonight then. Was hoping I wouldn't have to go down this route, but I don't want to have to rely on networks for their own specific updates!
It worked a treat! Thanks guys
i performed an OTA (Froyo) update on my phone and now i'm unable to root or downgrade so i can root.
i tried the downgrading method from here and i get an "incorrect cid" error
using unrevoked3 doesn't work, the process takes a long time and the phone just boots normally and it says "root failed"
i tried using a RUU and eventually ended up with an "wrong or incorrect cid" error too
so i'm guessing it's some error with the CID or something else i'm missing. how do i determine which is the suitable RUU for my CID? and how can i determine if my phone is CDMA or SLCD?
i'm not sure what to do now. i can post my phone info if needed.
What ROM version are you using at the mo?
stock HTC desire ROM
Baseband version 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Software number 2.32.415.3
Not seen an RUU with that version so you'd have to debrand (using a gold card) and then root that instead...the CID error is because you're not using a gold card
As for other questions:
- You're GSM, not CDMA, as you use a SIM card in your Desire
- Screen types are SLCD or AMOLED. New Desires (built August onwards) tend to be SLCD so you can only use RUUs with versions 2.x.xxx.x onwards (unless otherwise stated)
i still have to use a gold card even though the phone is unbranded? i'll give it a try i guess. i wanted to avoid making a goldcard but i guess i'm running out of options.

If you get incorrect CID that means that your phone is branded, hence the goldcard
If you're phone was unbranded you'd be on version x.xx.405.x - anything is either a region variant or branded. Most debranding guides use the WWE ROM (x.xx.405.x)
yeah it could be a region specific phone, that would explain the ROM version and the CID errors. but its definetely not branded, no extra software on it and its works with any network. does that mean i have to debrand, downgrade and then root?
Just have to debrand, use 2.10.405.2 and flash it with a gold card and then root - no downgrade required
- Insert a Goldcard
- Flash this using this RUU:RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49 .00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe
see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=853178&page=3
then u can root it using unrevoked if u dont have goldcard dowload this file http://www.mediafire.com/?pby74hjgv9t9tmu put it on the sd card turn the mobile off then press volume up while keeping it pressed press the power button then it will go HBOOT then PB99IMG.zip will flash ur desire u can root it again using unrevoked.
Why would they want to flash a Vodafone UK ROM onto their phone?? Bad advice, there...
Get the one from my signature of you still want to be unbranded
This one 2.29.405.2 WWE will not work on desire with RUU ARA_2.32.415.3 this the only way to root the device again pls see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853178&page=3
So why did you post the Vodafone UK one before? And how do you now the EU is on that ROM?? It doesn't matter which you use so long as you have a gold card

Yea..
I think his best bet is to downgrade using Teppic's utility to the WWE 1.720 and then upgrade to whatever version of his ROM is avilable on Shipped roms. And root. And..I have yet to see Unrvoked failing on any software version.
Use a goldcard while using Teppic's utility too. That will bypass the CID check
Why downgrade at all? So long as you're on ANY stock ROM you can root it. Downgrading is completely unneccessary
believe me I got this RUU ARA_2.32 I ve tried all the methods u mentioned here only the vodadafone RUU could resolve this problem all other methods gave different kind of errors without any success.
Of course it'll work, if not THEN use Teppic's downgrade tool and flash whatever ROM you want

Would help if you could describe the "different errors"..
The solution could have been anything starting from incorrect drivers..
I think I know what he's trying to say, he wants me to use the vodaphone one as a stepping stone before moving on to an unbranded ROM and rooting. But won't that still require a gold card anyway since its not the same version ROM?

(my Desire was branded Fastweb)
Everytime there is an error, flashing by bootloader
Main version is older!
Update fail
It shoud happen when HBOOT is newer than RUU , but i think my HBOOT is the right one.
I used goldcard, and then i tryed without but the problem is the same
How can i solve?
The coldcard works by making the phone ignore the CID (customer ID), so that you can install a RUU of ANY brand you wish. It DOES NOT work for bootloader versions, so e.g. once you update your phone to 2.2 (from 2.1), you CAN NOT, go BACK to 2.1 using an older RUU. Hope that helps you to understand it a bit more. As for upgrading your phone, try that:
I don't know whether your phone is GSM or CDMA (since I've never heard of that network) but if your phone is GSM (has a simcard), then use this RUU http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/...2U_5_11_05_27_release_159811_signed.exe_links
It is the latest WWE (world wide english) RUU so there is no way you will get that error. You need a working goldcard for it to work, but from reading your post it seems you have that covered so you should be fine.
You can go from 2.2 to 2.1 using teppic74's downgrade tool. Its a bit more involved than just flashiong an RUU.
That RUU is in th GSM section on shipped roms, but that doesn't necessarily mean it IS gsm

I tryed ur solution, but during flashing there is an error "131 customenr id error"
About the 2nd solution ( downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1) , its right to use it while i have hboot 0.75 (not 0.92) ?
Now i have on Leedroid 2.1.
RUU_Bravo_Fastweb_IT_1.15.1600.5_Radio_32.30.00.28 U_4.05.00.11_rel_121996.exe
So i think i need to have hboot 0.75, and its the hboot i can see in bootloader. Right?
I have to restore it because my touchscreen doesnt work, and warranty end with rooted phones
Downgrade dont work.
When i go in bootloader and i read PB991IMG.zip it says CID ERROR.
I've done goldcard many times, this is what i do:
Format MicroSD 4gb (stock microsd)
Open Gold Card Tool and complete the operation (it says gold card created)
what i do wrong?
When i have to install RUU in bootloader i put inside PB991IMG, so i extract Card and load the file by cardreader.
That error 131 appears everytime but when i try to install Official FASTWEB RUU it disappears and , as i said before, appears BOOTLOADER ERROR
you're either doing the goldcard wrong or your sd-card simply doesn't work as a goldcard.

OS Info is:
Android version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Software number: 1.36.61.2
Looking at the HTCdev info problem is there is no orange uk RUU image - or before that even a ROM updater.
@pat da punk
I Was think of reflashing to the EU stock from the loading to the SD card method, or by using the HTC dev unlocker HTC EU RUU, but I don't want to brick the phone by not prepping the rest of it first (i.e. the image mismatch)
you have 2 options. Wait for the Orange UK 2.3.5 Update, then start unlocking it, Or flash it to EU 2.3.5. those 2 things will update your hboot to 1.08.0000, where u are able to unlock
#Edit
Also u wont brick phone with official RUU, it will check if all is good, then it will start installing, Orange UK rom is just same as HTC EU rom, but u got branded OS, that's the difference
@Unkheq
How would I update the OS to 2.3.5 EU? as it would be useful to be pointed somewhere where the image is / information is on how to do this, as I might go ahead and flash to the EU version if I decide its going to be a faster option
Don't mind about the non branding. Most crucial on my mind at the moment is making more space for apps etc.

Thanks for all your help pat da punk and Unkheq. I've used the thanks button in the thread. I will wait a week or two to see if an offical Orange UK rom update comes out, and then may go the EU carrier route.
A final question, if I convert the SD card to a gold card, does it still use orange as the main network, but esentally allows you to flash the rom so its non orange branded (EU generic route)?
You use he network from your simcard is ^^, after installing rom u pick ur network.
OK got it. Will see if I can link the guides so that when I come back in a week or so I can remember exactly what to do
As it looks like there is going to be no immediate Orange UK unlocker for the wildfire S (can't see any mention on the website) I was planning to go the HTC Europe route myself as soon as the SD card reader I've ordered arrives.
If I do this then considering the HBOOT needs updating, will the marvel Europe 2.66 version (or whatever the lastest version is) attempt this and abort if there is going to be a problem or is there a verified version that successfully updates HBOOT 0.90 without any risk?
If all versions work then all fine and dandy. Just asking in case I'm creating a bricking chance if I manage to goldcard the SD card.
Thought I would post back and say I had great success in reflashing to the HTC marvel europe build.
Basically I followed the guide in 1st link beow below, then followed up by using the unlocker on the HTCdev site.
I've also found that the HTC supertool V3 roots the phone and its possible the unlock bootloader instructions will work as well, but I personally didn't follow that method and used the HTCdev site.
