I am having a music stutter issue. I have read lots of related threads, but haven't been able to find too many (any except this one about sdcard problems: can't post link because I'm teh nub sauce, but the title is "Lingering EVO issues (SD Card, Camera, etc.)") that talk about the problem on the EVO. I am thinking it might not actually be a bug and could just be the fact that I have a crappy SD card (the one that came with the phone). I ran SD card speed test and got
10 MB/sec read
2 MB/sec write
which fits with the fact that it is a class 2 card. I do not get music skips that often, but get them particularly badly when I am downloading on 4g (which I do a lot using subsonic). I also think it could be because of a slow SD card because I have had problems with 720p video getting corrupted which apparently is a common symptom of slow SD cards. I do have 7 full homesceens with about 5 widgets. When music is skipping the whole phone is going laggy and slow, so maybe its processor speed? IDK. Has anyone else had this problem on an EVO?
Please halp.
Running newest FRESH rom, but it happenned on stock as well (actually one of the reasons I rooted).
Try upping the cache size to unlimited on subsonic. That did the trick for me.
If you ever want to delete music, just manually delete the subsonic folder using Astro or what have you.
But what about the fact that sometimes the normal music player will skip, again especially when I am using 4g? Is it possible that 4g is downloading so fast that my SD card is not capable of reading/playing 320 kbps mp3s and downloading on 4g at the same time? 4g speeds are about 2mbps (.25 MBps) and my write speeds are 2MBps (16mbps) so this doesn't seem like it could be the case, but maybe reading/writing at the same time significantly slows things down? I dunno.
Did you ever get stutters in the normal music player? Did it skip A LOT when you had a 4g connection?
I live in an area with no 4G coverage, so I doubt that's it. When I read your title, my first thought was "I bet he has subsonic installed".
I haven't read anything online about this, but I also came across this stuttering problem. It pissed me off to no end. What I ultimately noticed was that all the "stuttering" music was at some point downloaded via Subsonic (even if it is played with a different media player - Cubed in my case). At first I thought it was something to do with the data connection, but then I became suspicious of the cache size.
I suspect that Subsonic downloads the tracks as long as the cache is not full, but then if it becomes full halfway through downloading a track, it corrupts the mp3 with a skip (perhaps while it deletes another track in the cache).
Regardless, increasing the cache to unlimited is what fixed it for me. Give it a shot.
Btw: Using CM6, for what it's worth.
I found that this was happening on the latest ota, so i downgraded and everything is working normally. There seem to be a couple of music problems with 3.29-although people aren't complaining that much.

I'll give it a try. I don't think it is a problem with the file itself, however, because I can play a song after everything is done downloading and it will work fine even if it was skipping before. It could be that between reading a 320kbps mp3, writing a new mp3 at 4g speeds, and deleting an old mp3 that the SD card is not fast enough?
I'll give it a try and get back to you.
So I did a couple things (stupidly at the same time).
First, I used the SD card from an old Evo (screen cracked, thank god for phone insurance) and reloaded everything on there. I think this is what actually fixed my problem. Read and write speeds should be the same as it is the exact same model of SD card, but I think it had the effect of defragmenting the card, enabling better reading and writing.
At the same time I tried Tickitata's idea and increased the cache size to unlimited. I streamed an album over WiFi and everything was fine (which it usually isn't). But then I noticed that I only had 2.6 GB of music on there and my cache limit had been 5 GB before, so I didn't think this was the problem and I changed it back. It still worked just as well afterward.
BTW Tickitata, were you having chronic stuttering problems that made the music almost unlistenable, or was it just a time to time thing?
In reply to sw99: I am using 3.3.0.1 not 3.29
I have someone on another forum that is buying a class 6 card to see if it resolves the problem for him. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Yeah, it was awful. Definitely to the point of being unlistenable.
Well, glad to hear you got it worked out.
Music occassionally stutters for me too. I use Mixzing and the 10 band EQ it comes with so I just assumed that the processor was getting bogged down with too many apps running while music was playing. Never really figured out the true cause.

So I just started getting this problem when i uploaded some songs from my PC to the SD card. It shows "Unknown error 0X8007000E" Which i googgled and it say it means out of memory yet i have 16-18Mb free and 20sum free of Storage(on the phone)
I deleted everything off PIE and all the songs i uploaded but im still getting the error.
Any ideas or will i need to re-flash?
I haven't ever gotten this error, since i use TCPMP, but since you said the google results said it meant out of memory i would be inclined to think that maybe the music files that you are playing require to much memory at a time for buffering. It may be helpful if you could post the bit-rates and other data from the music files where this occurs. (I am not all too knowledgeable at this, I'm just taking a guess).
Its at random points in songs.
The last one was a 32 Second ringtone from My tiny phone(where i get all mine)
Bit rate is 32kbps
The others include SOME Owl city songs
at 320kbps and they will not even load in the library
But my other stuff like
This is a recent issue.
But my old stuff i had loaded
varied from 128-320kbps
And they all worked fine
Only thing i have done is....well erased some stuff from my SD to put movies on it(which were to big to watch) and thats when the issues started.
After about a month, I finally got it. Uploading my library now, probably going to max out my storage .
Anyone have any hints, tips or tricks on things that can be done with Google Music?
my learning
If you use an AT&T Microcell the Ping delay will go through the roof while uploading and will impact your ability to make calls.
On my 3G iPhone it appears that a song is playing fine but you can't hear. You need hit the pause button on the player and then play button so you can hear a song. Frankly Google Music doesn't work very well on my iPhone.
If you found any tip sites I'd like to know them.
I got an invite 8 days ago & just barely started uploading my music yesterday night. I've got the app for my Epic running SRF 1.1.1 & it doesn't seem to work. Maybe it might have something to do with the phone's modem? I'm not sure, but I'm only seeing the music on my SD. I checked my settings in the app & it is connected to my account, but it won't display the uploaded music at all. Damn it!

I had the same issue with the app. I had it installed before I received my invite. Simply uninstalled and reinstalled google music on my phone. Issue resolved...for me at least.

Actually because your phone is rooted.
I heard you can clear the apps data and it works , might not but give it a try

works okay for me on stock rooted ec05.. It fine with a few songs, but once I got to around 10,000 songs both the web interface and the android app became a lot slower and less responsive.
Also, the uploader will rape your home bandwidth if you let it.. My 20/2 ends up slower than dialup with that thing running. There are throttle controls, but they didn't seem to help, the problem only went away for me when I turned it off completely. Also it prevents the screensaver from activating.. wtf? The phone player could use more features, as could the web player. Web interface failed the girlfriend test. After using it for a few minutes she declared it "unfriendly" and went back to using grooveshark.
On the one hand, it's cool having my entire mp3 library available when I'm away from home, but on the other hand grooveshark is still better for me to find new music.
On my rooted Droid X (Apex 2.0 Beta), i've had zero issues.
A few tips: Rather than trying to upload your collection during the day, do it while you sleep. It doesn't modify the bitrate, so if you're uploading a 320kbs file that is 6MB in size ... well, you get the idea.
Be prepared for some organization on the site itself. Unless you're quite particular about your ID3 tags, you will have to rename some songs, locate/update/upload new or clearer quality album art (Google Images works fine for this), and combine groups of songs from the same album into one album listing(generally is the result of some of the songs having no 'Album Artist' and some having it... tip, just highlight all, put the Artist in both groups, Ctrl+F5, win.)
Last thoughts... the widget is really bad right now, but the UI isn't awful. While you can presently filter in 2 ways 1) All music or 2) Only music on your phone,... there isn't a way to only filter online stuff. But, when you have no data connection (3G or WiFi), it will gray the online music out.
But really, take this all with the Beta grain of salt. GMail was in beta at one point, and took awhile to become the slick e-mail machine it is now. I have no doubt Google Music will only get better.
do you know, if i update an id-tag on my computer is the same mp3 going to be updated also on Google Music?
If the file size or name of the music file doesn't change then I don't think a Tag will trigger the re-upload. It may be worth a try though.
Anyone know of a good "free" MP3 tagger, that will go through and ID and correct the tags of my MP3s before I upload them?
I think pretty much all of my MP3s have had their tags removed

Several free ones, with reviews for each one.
I've had Google music for a while now (just started using it recently) and I have to say, for it being beta, it's pretty good. Although, I do have some beef with a few things.
Widget sucks: There's the song name, forward, and pause/play button. That's it. I don't like it and I find myself just playing music through the app itself.
Data is wonky: I've noticed that sometimes that GM will load random songs incorrectly and sound like crap. The only way I've found to fix this is going to settings/apps/music and clearing the data and cache. It has to reload the songs but if you start listening to music on wifi or a good 3g connection, songs will load correctly.
Web Interface, YUCK!: Nit picking here but I hate the look of the web interface. Works great though.
App needs equalizer and lockscreen playlist: I'm drawing this complaint after using Power Amp. If GM could model their app after Power Amp, it'd be perfect
Even though it's all complaining, I still recommend this app to music users (on sprint only). After songs are cached on your phone, it hardly draws any data, but I still wouldn't use it on AT&T and Verizon...but that's just because of their stupid cap. It has loads of potential, and I can't wait to see it
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has troubles with there mp3s not playing. For a couple of days my music player would play music then all of a sudden it would say file not supported or something along the lines of that. Where it would no longer play my music. At first thought it was the player so I downloaded another player and it said file didn't exist. The files are obviously there as I just played it a day ago.
After rebooting my phone it would play again. Then same thing would happen a couple of days later. So then I tried unmounting my sd card and remounting. That works as well for a day. The same thing it wouldn't read or play the mp3s. Is it my sd card (stock sd btw) or just a buggy phone? Thanks in advance? I'm rooted using syndicate rom, was happening b4 I rooted as well. Thought it would help it doesn't.
I have this same issue
I can still access the SD Card... add / remove files via ASTRO or Drop Box...
Just any attempts to play media fail (even ringtones / notification sounds)
At one point someone said to clean the SD Card contacts... I tried that, no improvements.
Nothing short of an unmount-remount fixes it. Whether mounting the card to a computer or just a reboot (quick or hard works)
No one's been able to figure it out so far :/
ACS 1.1.1
Been doing it since 1.0.2
Ah. See I thought it was my phone but damn glad its a known issue. I was thinking maybe a better sd card instead of a class 2. But may need to do some digging, what r ur thoughts about having just the music files on root of sd card. Instead of folders so that the phone doesn't have to dig so far?
Unfreeze or restore the drm content thingy. This solved it for me a couple months ago
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Its an issue with mp3s. How would I unfreeze the drm?
Delete the drm app from system/app.
Well I will update you in a day with no rebooting or unmount/remount. If this works I will give you my first child...
I deleted the drm app a while ago when k0nane suggested it... It didn't change anything for me.
It has been working for me. Nothing has gone wrong since the deletion of the drm. Also I might add that I deleted twitter as well. I saw a huge number of posts that suggested doing it. So I did that too. And no hiccups. I got a different client for that.
I do have Twitter installed... I will axe that and see what happens.
I can confirm... After uninstalling Twitter I haven't had to reboot to fix a music file issue...
Thanks for that info kwilbur3... Hopefully anyone else who runs into this will find this post
So I love everything about this phone so far except for all the problems I'm having trying to play music off my sd card. I keep getting errors from every media player that so & so file cannot be played. I've tried reformatting my card & that seemed to help at first but now it's happening again. I've deleted every .nomedia file I can find. Songs that I literally JUST played will for some reason not play the second time I try to play them. I can finish a song & immediately try to play it again & get an error. They're just regular mp3s, too. It's maddening. I doubt it's my card, it worked perfectly in my HD2 and in my Sensation. I'm kind of new to Samsung phones so is there some special way I need to format it? I formatted it in the phone, it should work. Is anyone else having this problem?
I tried out player pro and all the songs from my 32gb I used in my sensation play fine. Did you try that app?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I have not, I'll try it.
I still wanna know why this is happening though.
Edit: Damn dude, good call on PlayerPro. Works awesomely & has folder browsing just like I like :>
I noticed lately that my tablet will stutter or slowdown when downloading something, from Netflix, Google Play store, or just straight up a file from the browser. I'm not sure what's causing this. I'm using 52/64GB internal and I have a Samsung EVO 256GB card I've been using for a while now but is only 32GB filled. This happens whether it downloads to internal or external. I've tried restarting the tablets multiple times and it still happens the moment I initiate a download.
Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know what could be causing this?
Edit: So I've done a couple more things to troubleshoot. I uninstalled a bunch of games and freed up more space so I'm now at around 40/64GB used. I also removed the MicroSD card in case it was the cause of it. None of this changed it. I'm starting to think this may have started after the December patch, but I don't remember exactly when this issue started happening or when the patch was installed.

Same problem here. I got about 30gigs free internal with no sdcard. I assume ram plays a part which is y I wanna root and REALLY CLEAN my sm-t837v. But yeah your not alone in this
Have you run a speedtest? Try a few different servers as there are some in my city that have poor results and others have great speeds.

It happened on my home WiFi(at&t), my data(i got Verizon for the tablet), cousins WiFi(comcast). 3 different locations and services...Tho something else could cause the slowness and slight freezing I just think insufficient ram usage

I don't know what to say. I've streamed Amazon Video and AirTV from Europe to my home with no issues. I don't use Netflix. Memory on my S4 sits around 1.7G free though I have to admit I'm not always checking it.
This happened to me just yesterday when i started downloading a 2GB file. Everything would just start going slow. Going into recents menu was laggy. The whole system just lags

Oh no i mean streaming and what have you isn't a problem it's just WHEN I do download from Netflix it drastically slows and stutters. I rarely do so anyways. It's just an observation I made and decided to blame ram because I like to know and be able to DIRECTLY CHANGE AND AFFECT ram instead of using cruddy ram cleaners but instead I'm with the difficult version of the S4 soooooooo
Also apologies if it sounded like I'm complaining
