Every kernel that I have download that is suppose to increase my battery life actually drains my battery very fast. Why is this and what kernel do you recommend?
A few things here. Give any kernel 3-5 days before you judge its battery life, more often then not my battery is awful after a kernel change for a few days then picks back up and works as its supposed to. Make sure your battery is fully charged (power off trick) and clear batt stats after fully charged.
For those that claim they lose only a percentage point or two of battery overnight can you tell us what exactly you are running or doing to get those results? I'm using the screen off profile in SetCPU and after 8.5 hours of sleep the battery goes down around 20 - 25%. Running Baked Snack 1.8 with Kings bfs #9. Should I be seeing better results than that?

The screen off max/min 245 should work. I use that and it works wonders. I also use some advanced settings to help out while my screen is on. My battery doesn't drain as fast anymore. setCPU is a monster.

baked snack and kings #9 should be a good combo for battery life. (kings #6 bfs was better for me).
you probably have an app not allowing your phone to sleep. check out the apps system panel or android system info to see what app is keeping your phone awake.
edit: also, are you on wifi or 3g overnight? wifi will significantly drain the battery LESS since it doesn't constantly search for a better signal. do you have a strong 3g signal?

Hey guys, I am on cm 7 nightly #11. I am on radio 09.01 and have experimented with Chad's and the stock kernel.
I have background data, auto-sync, wifi, bluetooth, gps all off. I dont have facebook or anything pushing either. Screen brightness is on about 60%.
With the seido 1750 mah battery, I am getting around 7-8 hours of battery. That is to the bone dead .
That is making maybe 1 call a day, a couple dozen texts, browsing the web a bit and listening to an hour or so of music/pandora.
In spare parts it says under 'other usage'. Running 42.7%, screen on 23.8%. 'Partial wake' only ones on here are really music and pandora, but they are relatively small slivers.
Under settings it is 68% display, 8% cell standby, 7% voicecalls, 4% android, 4% idle.
I have tried wiping battery stats, doing the drain all the way technique, etc.
Anyone have any suggestion on what to do here?
Thanks.
I'h suggest moving to Cymod 7 RC1 (unless you mean the new nightly, then I'm not sure) I have been running cyanogenmod since before the nightlies hit and I've never had battery that bad. I get about 3 days of standby out of my phone on RC1 and the incredikernel. I listen to pandora on 3G (charging only in that time) about an hour a day and never charge otherwise unless I'm using it heavily. I text semi often, but don't really listen to music or call.
Seems wildly different that my experience. I take it this is specific to this rom, and your battery is better on others, ie battery itself not going south? With pretty similar usage and syncs to yours, I make it about 10 hours to use 50% of batt while at work. That's with stock battery. Only new nightly #8 with stock cm7 kernel.
1) change to 2.15 radio
2) did you buy the battery off ebay for $10? If so its really a 1250mAh or so. Either way OEM batteries are better than the aftermarket (ie Siedio)
3) Is the battery really old? If so it may be wearing down
4) Kernels are all decent, they should all get better than what you are getting...
5) Don't overclock to 1300+ it should run smooth at 998 or whatever it is.
I get 12+ hours of moderate use out of my OEM 1500mAh battery.
When I first started on the nightlies and flashing different kernels, I was having the same issue.
I stopped flashing other kernels and started using the stock cm7 kernel, now I am getting awesome battery life. Also, after flashing, several people recommend immediate rebooting to improve battery life.
Thanks guys.
Few questions.
1.) Radio 2.15? I am on 2.15.00.09.01 currently. Is that the same?
2.) Mine is an authentic Seido. But should I start using the OEM 1300mah battery?
Oh, I should mention. I don't overclock at all.
I was using the stock battery and got ~6 hours even with UC to ~850 most of the time and ~200 while screen off. Turns out my battery was defective and even now OCing to ~1100 most of the time I'm getting 4x the battery. Of course I couldn't be sure that my battery was defective until after I bought the new one but if the battery life just doesn't make sense then you might want to try going back to stock (assuming that's fine) and comparing.
try a different battery maybe
i currently have the stock battery which was only used a couple days
a HTC 1500 battery
a seido 1750 battery but i havent tried any of the other batteries in awhile but i also use CM7 nightlies on #11 because it seems to have best battery life
maybe ill try my other battiers and see my findings
I've had a similar experience and I'm fairly certain it was not my battery. The battery worked great with other ROM's; Normal usage of my phone would yield roughly 40% remaining battery life at the end of the day.
After going to CM7 (I started at #38) my battery has been lousy. I can't get through a day at all.
Two days ago I flashed incredikernel 2272011 as well as CM7 build #11. I'm using the default smartass governor and my battery performance is back where it used to be. Going through an entire day for me is no problem with normal usage.
Not sure if that helps but I've had good luck with this kernel thus far. Oh... and phone has been rock solid!
I'm on CM7 Nightly 11 right now with stock kernel. Seidio 1750 that I've had since last June. I've recently been comparing Tiamat's 3.14 to stock. If I'm on any kernel that has Smartass I'll use that as my governor. If I'm on the stock kernel then I use SetCPU with the kernel set to ondemand and a screen off profile set to 245. Either scenario seems to give me pretty good battery life, but I think Tiamat's with smartass may be a little better. With any kernel I've had it overclocked to 1.03.
Also, the brightness settings based off of HTC's ROM that were posted in the cm nightly thread in the development section have worked great. I've definitely noticed an increase in battery life.
I use advanced task manager with the shortcut on the desktop. I leave essentials running in the background but try to make sure everything else is killed.
All in all with the current setup I have I can get roughly 12-14 hours with heavy texting, 4-5 phone calls, internet and games scattered throughout the day.
Hello I just flashed my phone to CM7 and it's so smooth, but I was wondering if I could get the.most our of my battery by using a different kernel. That allows everything to work. please help.

Tiamat kernel plays nice.
It can also be undervolted additionally.
Right now I'm running CM7 Stable, and I use the Savage Zen kernel (no SBC). I get pretty decent battery life out of it by using SetCPU and setting it to 245 min/max when the screen is off and around 245-1000~ when it's on; this allows me to get great performance while still maintaining decent battery.
savaged zen 2.0.0. my phone's been through 2 nights. played quite a few games. checked facebook a bunch. used flashlight a few times. email, xda, calls. 1 day 11 hours and still like 10 percent left. runnign on savaged zen governer. that's pretty damn good.
then again, i did fall asleep wiht it on and not charging twice. at least we know it sleeps well...
played with the SZ governor for a little bit the other day, and found it pretty nice.
ended up switching back to tiamat and smartass though.
also currently testing and trying out SBC just to see how it behaves. easily noticing that extra percentage of battery that gets pushed to charge due to the trickle charge vs a non-SBC kernal.
I'm visitng here from the Samsung Captivate forum. I flashed CM7 to my girlfriend's EVO last night and she is experiencing horrid battery life. I turned off the "back up to google" options in the privacy menu that is said to be starting Android system every time the dialer is used, which is said to use up excessive battery power.
I'm about to flash tiamat's latest kernel. I'll report back on how it goes.
I flashed back to CM7 the other day. I was having issues, so i completely reformattetd everything. Went back to stock, unrooted, re-roooted, and flashed cm7. I'm getting great battery life with CM7 + the tiamat kernel.
As of right now: 25 hours, 19 minutes of uptime with 68% of my battery life remaining.
ETA: This is using the 3500mah seido extended battery.
My girlfriend is getting much improved battery life with tiamats 3.3.7 kernel

i'm on Kings Unleashed GBR3 NEON-CM7 using tiamat 3.3.7 sbc kernel and i love it! i am getting almost 35hrs on one charge!
Last night I switched over to the EF02 Gingerbread leak and flashed the AA i3 rom.
I was loving it, but my battery went down about 15% in 20 minutes. Just while going through menus.
Browsed around a bit and found out about calibrating the battery, and how it can fix the issue.
So, my questions:
- Should I calibrate from a full charge?
- Is it a good idea to calibrate the battery every once in a while, just for the sake of it?
- What kind of battery life have some (any) of you seen out of the AA i3 rom with a properly calibrated battery?
Thanks in advance.

calibrating the battery is just a placebo effect in my opinion...i don't think it will help you at all
my personal experience with ef02 is it tanked my battery in 5 hours from 100% to dead
i'd recommend sticking with ec05 until we get a newer leak or official gb
go to market and look for battery calibrator and then i t will tell you directions from there
Could be ROM. My wifes epic is deodexed ef02 w ef02 modem and a few odds and ends and we are seeing 12hrs on a charge. When it was same ROM and ec05 modem...it made it 4.5 hrs w hardly any use and died.

That was kind of the suspicion I had...something sounds kind of off about "calibrating battery".
Even if the leak was making it 12 hours, I'd still have switched back to EC05 2.2 on SRF 1.2...which I already did. I'm very content with a reliable 20+ hrs.
Was fun to toy with though, definitely left an impression as far as things to look forward to. I'll keep waiting for a more stable/official...
Also, root explorer. Data/system/battery stats.bin. delete that file after full charge, meaning full charge, unplug, plug back in for 15ish mins. Reboot. Simple. You will be deleting the battery statistics manually and upon reboot it creates a new file. If you are paranoid about properly doing it that will do it.

I am current running the Bonsai Rom 5.0.0.B12 and I am greating great battery life. Make sure there is nothing that is preventing your phone from going into deep sleep mode. Background data, also make sure that your cpu settings are on conservative. I use voltage control to change my cpu setting to conservative and noop and I use cpuspy to determine if my phone is going into deep sleep mode. If you do these thing you should get great battery life.
Hi everyone,
This is my first post.
I have thoroughly searched forums, trying to find this information but I'm having a really hard time finding any coherent answers, and even harder time finding any actual statistics.
Initially when I got my evo4g recently, used, it's cellular standby was taking up 45% of the battery. I got juice defender ultimate, and downgraded to 1.77 from 2.15 for the PRL and NV, which dropped that 45% down to 4-10%.
I've tried both cyanogen, and synergy roms. The interface for either is both good, so it's a wash to me. I underclocked both to 128mhz idle and 768mhz regular. I also disabled
On Cyanogen I tried savaged zen kernel, and stock kernel. I have not tried tiamat. On Synergy I tried golden monkey, and aggressive freedom .9. I use smartass governor.
On synergy, I used setCPU to create a profile to on screen off, to set clock speed 128 to 384, with ondemand as the governor, while using smartass as my regular governor, with 128-768 as my stock speeds.
When I tried the savaged zen kernel, the vipermod was only able to undervolt .25mv. Any greater and it locked up. .50mv would work for a while, but then just randomly crash. I don't know the undervolt rating of golden monkey, but it is not flexible. Aggressive freedom is pretty heavily undervolted.
I'm making the assumption that my device doesn't like HAVS, given that, or savaged zen is pretty aggressive in the first place. I'm unsure.
I disabled rotation, screen brightness is set to minimum, and am still not getting acceptable battery. I'm a fairly heavy user. Currently, it says 64% of my power is my display, even though it's at minimum.
I'm still tethered to keeping a charger with me, which really sucks given that the 12v adapter in my car is dead, and I drive a lot.
Often when I'm using my device, I can drop from 45% charge to 15% charge in an hour. It's a fairly new replacement battery. I read 4200mv in rom on it. I've tried resetting my battery stats.
I don't really know what to do. As of currently, the only thing that drains more
than 10% is the display. When the display is off, and I don't touch the phone, it drains incredibly slowly. I've dropped from 100% to 58% in the last 4 hours with intermittent use, haven't made a single call, and have sent a total of 3 text messages. I've lost a full 15% of my battery watching 5 3 minute youtube videos before.
Would cyanogen, or synergy be recommended for max battery life, and given cyanogen or synergy, which kernel would be optimal for battery life, and is there anything I can do to make my minimum brightness display use less power, short of not being able to see at all?

What kind of replacement battery, and where did you buy it?
It is possible to buy a "brand new" battery that's been sitting on the shelf long enough to not be very good. I would guess there are also counterfeit batteries out there (although I do not know this for a fact). A poor quality or old battery might be causing this?
Actual HTC branded battery from sprint. I didn't have to pay for it. I still am trying to figure out why my display says it's taking up two thirds roughly on minimum brightness. I currently am on synergy with juice defender set to aggressive, with min brightness, and freedom v. 9 aggressive.
Would Cyanogen with Savaged Zen or Tiamat use less?
I may have to end up buying a bigger battery? It's often dead 10 hours after I take it off the charger.
I know nv and pri 1.90 have problems. How is 2.15? I currently have 1.77.
Sorry if I talk on circles.
Also, are the v6 supercharger script, and it's associated scripts worth looking into?
I personally think juice defender is just another parasite. You should turn on/off your radios when in/not use manually. The smartass governor is used basically has a built in screen off profile making juice defender or setcpu irrelevant. the 2.15 PRI is nice, I'm using ti with no problems.
I average 2 days on stock battery:
CM7
Tiamat 4.1 > smartassv2 governor
Vipermod: -100mv , 825mv floor
And aosp will always have better battery life than sense.
Right now my display is at 42% for 11 hrs and I'm on the latest radio pri nvm and prl and don't have any crazy batt drain. And iv heard decks Rom is bad ass idk guess it is what you prefer. As far as v6 you will hear and read mixed results I use it on setting 7 just cause it kills apps that won't kill forever or don't exit right
Ps +1 to juice defender never helped me and i now use system turner instead of set CPU cause it can create a script for CPU usage unlike set CPU.

I'll just piggy back off this thread. I'm need some other suggests or help. My battery is draining unusually fast lately.
This was thirty minutes of use. I was listening to Sirius NFL radio through Dolphin HD. The battery was at 90% when I disconnected it from the charger

This is twelve minutes after I stopped listening to Sirius.
I had my brightness settings to lowest possible. I work at night, so I don't need very bright.
I'm running CM7 Nightlies; currently on 11-10-11 (#250) with CM7's kernal. Set Governoer to Performance, CPU set to 245 min, 1113 max. I have the seidico 3500mha battery. I find these work well for all the video media I consume at work--Netlfix, NFL Game Pass mobile, Plex, Hulu, Sprint TV, and so on with HDMwIn. I also do some gaming with SNESoid with Sixaxias Control or Wiimote Controller. When at work, the phone is on a charger all but about thirty minutes.
I was using Tiamat 4.1 and wasn't having nearly as rapid battery drain with the same settings. I went back to the stock CM7 kernal, because Tiamat caused flash player not to work properly in either Browswer or Dolphin HD.
I've tried wiping the battery stats and draining the battery completely after flashing the updated CM7 nightlies. I just having done data wipe at this point. I haven't tried using the original 1500mha battery either. I akso turned off the back up data to google servers. The only things I have are 3g/2g raido, All other radios are off unless needed. No vibration is off except the one on boot. I do have auto sync on. I also use WP clock live wallpaper. I have all animations off.
I don't expect my battery to last to the day or days. I use to get a good eight to twelve hours with normal use--email, IM, web, phone, and light media consumption.
Any ideas?

That sucks your getting such terrible battery life man :/ I'm running synergy with stock kernal and 2.15 pri, and I get about 23-24 hours on my 1500mah battery, and that's with everything turned on no juice defender or anything, but I also charge my batteries with an external charger, Idk if that changes anything or not...

I installed Amon Ra's flasher instead of clockwork, then went into recovery, wiped everything 3 times over, including battery stats and dalvik cache, installed cyanogen mod, installed savaged zen kernel, installed gapps, did first bootup, and have since had better battery life, atleast for the last few hours. I've been on wifi the whole time though.
I can only undervolt 25mv on Savaged Zen, any more and it locks up. However, on the freedom kernel for sense, I used the aggressive setting, with SVS, instead of HAVS. Is tiamat SVS? If so, would I be better with a manually undervolted tiamat, instead of savaged zen?
I've read some things about evo deck having better battery life than cyanogenmod. However, I don't know which version of CM7 they based it off of, CM7, or CM7.1, and I also don't know if these claims are actually true. Can anyone confirm this?
Why is juice defender a parasite? CPU cycles? The "3%" it uses, is much less than the 35% cellular standby that I've been seeing, due to piss poor signal.

So the consensus is that evo deck is thebest battery rom ? Then which kernel? Savaged Zen or tiamat? Given that savages Zen freezes at 50mv undervolt and I was able to run freedom aggressive, I'm not sure. Is havs worth it? Or do I go with tiamat. If tiamat, do I go with newest?

they both are the newest and are both HAVS, if you look at the thread in my sig. the only thing is that tiamat is going to have future updates while SVZ will not. and i'm undervolting my SVZ kernel to -75mv. you probably couldn't because every phone is different so you phone probably cant do more than -50mv. none the less check the thread in my sig to learn more about kernels and roms that are aosp. ^_^
I've read that thread already. I found it odd you suggested the godmode kernel even though its not a gingerbread kernel.

the one in the attachments that you can dl is a aosp version he toast made for gingerbread roms... or you can just go to his thread through my thread, the link is under the GoDm0de description...
Magically, my phone stopped rapidly draining out overnight. Maybe it's because I wiped battery stats?
With evo deck and savaged zen at -25mv, I got 24 hours of battery before I hit 80%, but that was with next to zero use. I then used 3g for a half hour, gps for 15 minutes, and made 4 seperate under 10 minute phone calls, which drained the battery down to 15%.
The battery use section says 49% is cellular standby. This is with manually turning on or off radios. Display is such a low %, it's not even showing up.
Do you have bad phone reception where you are at ? Cause isn't that cellular stand by? When the phone is searching for service ?

I always have poor service lately. If it wasn't for a friend working for sprint getting me a crazy discount, I'd have switched carriers a long time ago.
Only wipe battery stats when your battery is fully charged and shows 4200mV in battery monitor widget. Then you need to run the battery dead, then recharge fully to calibrate it.
Next, no ROM or kernel will fully charge ANY extended battery unless it uses SBC. This is fact, I have tested everything available today from asop to sense.
You are fighting a battle you cant win. Turn off automatic sync, set your wifi sleep to never while uplugged, and uncheck the always on mobile data.
Good luck, there is no solution, phone is what it is.

I have the savaged zen kernel with SBC turned on.
I have noticed some instability in the phone ever since I undervolted 25MV. It locks up for moments at a time, which is aggrevating because it makes me miss calls. It unlocks intermittently. It crashes at -50mv, so maybe I simply can not undervolt at all. Atleast I have HAVS, which is better than stock kernel.
I tried the v6 supercharger, 3g turbocharger, and kickass kernelizer scripts (at the same time), and the phone became horrifically unstable, so that is not a route I'd like to try again. For v6, I used 512 balanced, 3g I tried fastest, and kickass doesn't have settings. I'm not sure if those affect battery at all, but I wasn't happy.
I've read this thing about turning off atime to help flash disk IO performance by a rather significant margin, reducing battery strain a smidgeon by finishing tasks faster, and powering down the flash memory faster, which I would like to do (which works great on linux computers, which is another hobby of mine), but I'm not really sure how to go about it on android.
I noticed synergy rom uses the fun optimization of using EXT2 to boost performance. Any way to easily implement that to an already existing rom?
