Every kernel that I have download that is suppose to increase my battery life actually drains my battery very fast. Why is this and what kernel do you recommend?
A few things here. Give any kernel 3-5 days before you judge its battery life, more often then not my battery is awful after a kernel change for a few days then picks back up and works as its supposed to. Make sure your battery is fully charged (power off trick) and clear batt stats after fully charged.
For those that claim they lose only a percentage point or two of battery overnight can you tell us what exactly you are running or doing to get those results? I'm using the screen off profile in SetCPU and after 8.5 hours of sleep the battery goes down around 20 - 25%. Running Baked Snack 1.8 with Kings bfs #9. Should I be seeing better results than that?

The screen off max/min 245 should work. I use that and it works wonders. I also use some advanced settings to help out while my screen is on. My battery doesn't drain as fast anymore. setCPU is a monster.

baked snack and kings #9 should be a good combo for battery life. (kings #6 bfs was better for me).
you probably have an app not allowing your phone to sleep. check out the apps system panel or android system info to see what app is keeping your phone awake.
edit: also, are you on wifi or 3g overnight? wifi will significantly drain the battery LESS since it doesn't constantly search for a better signal. do you have a strong 3g signal?

I never use wifi at home but I keep 4G active since I get a great signal. Should I just turn that off overnight?

So ever since I moved onto Fresh 3.3.0.1 from the stock rooted ROM, my battery usage hasn't been that great. I also updated to 4.1.9 BFS then tried CFS. I tried both. Then I just flashed the 5.0 p3 and it's been the same pretty much. I use Juice Defender and the only settings I have are that I have the CPU set at 128mhz when screen off while it maxes at 1.22GHZ. The scheduling keeps the wifi/data off at all times EXCEPT my screen is on...so i can use things instantly. thats pretty much it.
but with all this, battery is still draining pretty bad....even when i sleep for like 8 hours, i use to get like...literally 1% drain for the whole 8 hrs or 2% MAX!! now im getting like 10%.
anyone have tips?
The best battery life is Cyanogen's + snap kernel... better than stock. I get 10 hours of battery life with wireless tether on, and there's almost always someone connected.
Right now I'm hammering my battery, dling 500 megs of Ubuntu updates on this laptop through my phone lawl...
Boot into recovery and wipe the dalvik cache a couple of times. That fixed the battery drain on my Fresh 3.3.0.1 with Netarchy 4.1.9.1 BFS.
I downgraded netarchy to 4.1.8 (which was working superbly with root stock 2.2) so ill see if its just as awesome with fresh

I just reflashed the netarchy kernel 4.1.8 and it's FREAKIN AWESOME AGAIN. I'm telling you, something's funky about 4.1.9 and 5.0p3.
This 4.1.8 version gives me like 50 hours of battery life compared to about 15 on the others. I unplugged my phone at 1030AM at 88%. It's not 615PM and it's at 74%. Pretty baller.
Hello everyone, I lately have been getting horrible battery life!! I keep brightness on lowest setting, use wifi when possible, turn down haptic feedback all the way etc. do my best to save battery!
So my epic is Rooted with CWM3, and the latest frozen syndicate rom installed. Is it because my phone is rooted and the syndicate rom drains it more? is that why i have bad battery life? Does having your phone rooted drain battery life?
I ordered a Seidio 3300mah battery and got it yesterday in mail. Put in phone, then charged rest of night about it. Im using it today and am still receiving poor battery life, my friend who has epic ordered a cheap hong kong battery and is getting better battery life? I read something about conditioning your battery and draining it to 0% then charge fully to 100%? How does this work please explain?
Can someone just please help me use my new battery to its potential and help me out here?
Draining your battery for battery calibration is unecessary... there are a few threads regarding it...

so what should i do to improve battery life?
Rooting and custom ROMs reduce battery usage. You need to supply more details. Are you overclocking...that burns up battery usage. Have you tried Spare Parts to see what is using your battery? Has 3G been out in your area and the phone is searching for a data signal?

im not overclocking. spare parts? 4g is off- not in my area. 3g is on. what should i do. should i use my phone reguarly till it drains 0, then fully charge? i read something about wiping battery stats, shud i do tht? and i also read tht ec05 is horrible on battery life. should i go back to eb13 possibly or wht? and recommended roms?
try this thread:
Calibrate Battery thread - This is how you do it!

I used "The Powered Off Charge way" method and it did seem to make a difference.
Hope that helps, good luck

I have noticed no difference in DK28, EB13 or EC05 in my battery life. Do the calibration suggested in the post above. As for ROMs it is about personal choice. I have been with Bonsai for awhile now. I hear the ACS ROMs are very stable. Syndicate Frozen is good, Midnight is good. Read the OPs, learn what they remove and improve and see if that is what you are looking for.
Running SRF 1.1, with a custom theme, brightness at lowest setting, haptic feedback all the way up, because I need to know if someone is calling, I regularly get 30+ hours per charge. The two Chinese knockoffs I have get about 26 or so hours per charge.
I have recently seen a drop in my battery, spare parts on a couple of occasions should my phone would not sleep. Sometimes a reboot would fix this, but reflashed just to be safe.
After the reflash I was still getting bad battery life but spare parts showed no issues, so I started doing the airplane toggle again and that seems to of fixed it.

whats spare parts?
Spare parts is a free program available in the market place. It shows you more detailed statistics on what is using your battery juice.
Undervolting maybe. But I got stablilty issues. ymmv anyway.
My advice is
1. Set max clock to 800mhz and min to 200mhz. The CPU is volted -75 over 1ghz and 200 is volted the same as 100mhz. I use the Conservative governer but Ondemand works well too.
2. Get a good custom rom/kernel. CM7 and Frankenstein got the best through all my testing.
3. Brightness at lowest, turn off "Notify me when Wifi networks are available", Turn off syncing for contacts, the two GPS options, etc.
4. Take out as many applications as possible(Personal preference. I think it makes a difference) But I mean stuff you don't use. I take out Bluetooth, GPS, DRM, SNS, and most stock applications. If you're using Handcent you don't need stock SMS and vice versa.
5. If you're on 2.2 and lower I recommend a program like JuiceDefender to turn off 3G when your screen is off. The latest update on the free version removed the option to filter applications using data while the screen is off.
6.Enable Airplane mode on boot up. Then turn it off and use normally. TWS
7. Definitly calibrate your battery.
8. *Insert unreasonable battery tip here*
Oh and spare parts can be installed directly from the market. It's a program that allows monitering and for changing animation speeds and such. I don't use it for anything. You should also be able to go into settings -> about phone -> battery usage and see most of what spare parts would.
is tht one thread the one guy posted to calibrate the battery? will it work?

Especially with a new 3300mAh battery! I recommend the top two as the third didn't work for me.
Juice defender on aggressive mode and setcpu on conservative mode increases my battery life when on standby quite a bit.
Don't drain your battery to zero it destroys our batteries. Don't use juice defender. If there is no reason that you need background data on like when you are sleeping turn it off but some say that's cheating but their idiots. That will dramatically improve your battery alone. Do the airplane shutdown every once in awhile some that's cosmetic but don't believe everything that is told to you. Only keep apps installed that you regularly use. Use spare parts to see if any app is causing significant drain. I'm a battery life guru.... ;-)

Droid incredible. Rooted, virtually every rom through rom manager causes my phone to battery to drain very fast.
After a charge itll drop to 90% in about twenty minutes. Iv heard thats a droid thing.
From that point, it steadies but still is losing juice FAST. Phone has been awake for 8hrs today with light usage and is currently at 70%. Gps off, wifi off, etc. No vibrating feedback, auto brightness.....all settings geared for battery conservation.
Im using Incrom 1.6 with a stock kernal. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated as i dont stop hearing that everyone in the world is rooted and enjoying their batterys new ability. Ohhh, btw extended battery, red htc one in case that matters.

Try flashing some new kernels..try a couple out. If that doesn't work did you over charge your phone? Or use a car charger?

Its not the battery cause when i revert to stock the battery is normal for what im used to. The change is noticable wen i use any of the custom roms.
Right now wrkng on flash radio, hit a bump waiting for email back.
Ne other suggestions from u or nebody wud be apreciatd

Everybody's definition of "light usage" is different. Losing 20% in 8 hours doesn't seem that bad to me unless you litterally never turned your screen on. That said, here are some things you can try:
1. I've found that the auto brightness sucks and I'm better off just manually setting it to 25% or so. That's fine for indoor use and you can't see the screen in bright sunlight anyway regardless of the setting so why bother burning battery trying?
2. Try flashing a kernel that allows you to underclock and undervolt. Perhaps one of Ziggy's nonHAVs kernels (I have found that HAVS kernels to be unstable, but YMMV). Either use the smartass governor or setCPU to cap screen off at 384 MHz.
3. Carry a charger with you
I'd see what is using your battery in settings.
Also, you could try chad's sense (12/28 I think) incredikernel, which sets the max clock speed really low when the screen's off (defaults to smartass governer).
If you wanted to try CM7, gingerbread has a much better battery usage UI that'll give you a nice graph of battery usage vs. time for phone awake time, signal strength, wifi and some other stats.
Last straw was last night. Had 13% battery life left before softball last night and knowing I wouldn't use my phone during the games, but having been burned by my battery before, I shut my phone down before the games. Played softball for two hours then turned my phone on. Booted up long enough to see that I had 0% battery before it shut down again.
What am I doing that's causing this? I get maybe 10 hours out of a Seido 1750mAh battery. I have no apps that do background updates. I keep my display on "dim" most of the day. I go most days without even making or receiving a single phone call!
Ideas? Thanks for any help. This is really frustrating.
Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3
Kernel: 2.6.37.4-cyanogenmod+ [email protected] #27
Baseband: 2.05.00.06.11
Seido 1750 mAh battery
I'm not sure, but there have been claims that Seidio inflates their numbers and their 1750 mah battery isn't actually that much. Has this been something that has been happening gradually? Like your battery life is degrading over time and now it's at an unbearable point?
Try a different Kernel or Baseband. I'm using MIUI w/ incredikernel and get great battery life w/ stock battery. I'm also using 2.15.00.07.28 Baseband. I use SetCPU to set a screen off profile of 245min 245max, havn't noticed any lag while having that set. If you wish to update your radio easily you could download "Inc Bits" from the market. Great app has all of our phone radios, all you need to do is rename it and move to SDcard.
Agree with tcberg2010 here. Try incredikernal with Smartass governor. Check out vipermod. I was having intense battery issues which i posted about a week back. My suggestion would be to get spare parts app and check partial wakelock to see if anything is keeping your phone up. I use maps occasionally and it turns out that it was causing partial wakelock constantly. After disabling a locations and gps i am back to standard battery life. Looking forward to next cyanogenmod update, hope there is a fix...
If your phone died while it was turned off, then I would either have battery tested or get another one it could have an internal problem.
Yeah unless the phone some how got turned on in your pocket (I'm not sure how, but it has happened to me), There should be minute if not no drain on the bat at all. I'm not sure where you can get it tested, but I would certainly be wary about that bat. Do you still have the stock 1300? I'd check to see if it looses charge while the phone is off. Maybe there's a short in the phone.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm at about 10.5 hours right now and 7% left with the only thing I've changed being the battery. I went back to my stock battery. Going to try a new radio first, then vipermod.
try the "battery moniter widget" from the market. it keeps perfect tabs on your battery, can tell you the REAL mA of your battery, temp, usage stats, all kinds of stuff. it's really a good app to use to watch your battery...you could also use MIUI, and watch your battery life almost double. it's superior to CM7 in so many ways. and the people that have used both, i think pretty much agree...
I've about had it with my EVO 4G. I can barely use the thing before the battery is down to 30% or lower. When I first unplug it in the morning, I'll browse reddit or XDA for all of 5-10 minutes and my battery will go down to 75% easily. I've tried tons of ROMs (running Energy w/Shooter Anthrax kernel as I heard it got amazing battery life) I've tried resetting the battery stats -- i've tried unplugging and replugging in the phone multiple times when the charge light is green, I've tried just about everything I can find on here dealing with battery issues and to no avail! Listed in my battery stats the only thing that's ever high is my Display usage but even factoring that in should I really only be getting an hour or two of mild internet usage before my battery is completely depleted? I can barely make it through a 6 hour work day (checking texts on breaks, light internet, maybe a 5 minute phone call) without having to recharge it in my car.
I'm open to ANY suggestions short of buying a new battery -- sadly it's not an option at the moment.
Do you keep 4G on? That drains a battery like nothing else if left on. Same with GPS, especially in Sense Roms for some reason.

i recommend using a aosp rom if battery life is a MUST. I would suggest you use Decks aosp rom with CoD tweaks Tiamat 3.7.7 and vipermod and underclock to 500 on smartass governor........all this is what you should do if you choose decks rom
Make sure your 4G is off, but Evo is known for its horrible battery but thats ridiculous. Try a new kernal to adjust to CPU settings. If that doesn't work, you might need a new battery. Evos are know for having their battery fried easily, mine fried and I had to get a new battery. :/
You should definitely make sure your 4g, Gps, Wifi, and blue tooth is off. If that does not work I would strongly suggest you downloading Cyanogenmod 7.1. When you aren't using the phone under clock it and do medium speed when you are using it. I last around 8-9 hours doing this. Hope it helps.
Okay I installed Decks Evo GB rom and the Tiamat 3.3.7 kernel. I followed the guides but couldn't seem to do the undervolting correctly with the apps i was provided...but i'll do some testing and report back!
Can someone point me in the direction of the right app for undervolting and whatnot?

vipermod is used for undervolting http://vipermod.tiamat-dev.com/vipermod-voltage-control/
Also, it could just be that your battery is tired. Is it at all swollen, in the least bit or rock hard? It should feel firm, but give a little.
People tell me all the time, "my battery is not holding a charge", it's not designed to. But, how it releases the charhe, is another story. Obviously, it's also dependant on use. Remember, the phone is only rated at 5 hours talk time. I can't think of a time I've actually tried that, but when I have been caught on the phone for extended periods I've only gotten at most 2 hours of conversation out of a full battery.

my battery doesnt last too bad in my evo. granted not like the old days, but i do get about 12-15 hours on a 1700 mah battery and a powerskin charging case with a built in 1500 mah battery. This is in a poor service area.. constantly switching into and out of roaming. i keep 4g, wifi, mobile network all off and screen brightness at about 25%.. this is with moderate txt, some light game play, occasional turn on 3g to check email and browse web. im expecting better now thzt i am rooted with energy rom and anthrax kernel.
