Hey guys, I am on cm 7 nightly #11. I am on radio 09.01 and have experimented with Chad's and the stock kernel.
I have background data, auto-sync, wifi, bluetooth, gps all off. I dont have facebook or anything pushing either. Screen brightness is on about 60%.
With the seido 1750 mah battery, I am getting around 7-8 hours of battery. That is to the bone dead .
That is making maybe 1 call a day, a couple dozen texts, browsing the web a bit and listening to an hour or so of music/pandora.
In spare parts it says under 'other usage'. Running 42.7%, screen on 23.8%. 'Partial wake' only ones on here are really music and pandora, but they are relatively small slivers.
Under settings it is 68% display, 8% cell standby, 7% voicecalls, 4% android, 4% idle.
I have tried wiping battery stats, doing the drain all the way technique, etc.
Anyone have any suggestion on what to do here?
Thanks.
I'h suggest moving to Cymod 7 RC1 (unless you mean the new nightly, then I'm not sure) I have been running cyanogenmod since before the nightlies hit and I've never had battery that bad. I get about 3 days of standby out of my phone on RC1 and the incredikernel. I listen to pandora on 3G (charging only in that time) about an hour a day and never charge otherwise unless I'm using it heavily. I text semi often, but don't really listen to music or call.
Seems wildly different that my experience. I take it this is specific to this rom, and your battery is better on others, ie battery itself not going south? With pretty similar usage and syncs to yours, I make it about 10 hours to use 50% of batt while at work. That's with stock battery. Only new nightly #8 with stock cm7 kernel.
1) change to 2.15 radio
2) did you buy the battery off ebay for $10? If so its really a 1250mAh or so. Either way OEM batteries are better than the aftermarket (ie Siedio)
3) Is the battery really old? If so it may be wearing down
4) Kernels are all decent, they should all get better than what you are getting...
5) Don't overclock to 1300+ it should run smooth at 998 or whatever it is.
I get 12+ hours of moderate use out of my OEM 1500mAh battery.
When I first started on the nightlies and flashing different kernels, I was having the same issue.
I stopped flashing other kernels and started using the stock cm7 kernel, now I am getting awesome battery life. Also, after flashing, several people recommend immediate rebooting to improve battery life.
Thanks guys.
Few questions.
1.) Radio 2.15? I am on 2.15.00.09.01 currently. Is that the same?
2.) Mine is an authentic Seido. But should I start using the OEM 1300mah battery?
Oh, I should mention. I don't overclock at all.
I was using the stock battery and got ~6 hours even with UC to ~850 most of the time and ~200 while screen off. Turns out my battery was defective and even now OCing to ~1100 most of the time I'm getting 4x the battery. Of course I couldn't be sure that my battery was defective until after I bought the new one but if the battery life just doesn't make sense then you might want to try going back to stock (assuming that's fine) and comparing.
try a different battery maybe
i currently have the stock battery which was only used a couple days
a HTC 1500 battery
a seido 1750 battery but i havent tried any of the other batteries in awhile but i also use CM7 nightlies on #11 because it seems to have best battery life
maybe ill try my other battiers and see my findings
I've had a similar experience and I'm fairly certain it was not my battery. The battery worked great with other ROM's; Normal usage of my phone would yield roughly 40% remaining battery life at the end of the day.
After going to CM7 (I started at #38) my battery has been lousy. I can't get through a day at all.
Two days ago I flashed incredikernel 2272011 as well as CM7 build #11. I'm using the default smartass governor and my battery performance is back where it used to be. Going through an entire day for me is no problem with normal usage.
Not sure if that helps but I've had good luck with this kernel thus far. Oh... and phone has been rock solid!
I'm on CM7 Nightly 11 right now with stock kernel. Seidio 1750 that I've had since last June. I've recently been comparing Tiamat's 3.14 to stock. If I'm on any kernel that has Smartass I'll use that as my governor. If I'm on the stock kernel then I use SetCPU with the kernel set to ondemand and a screen off profile set to 245. Either scenario seems to give me pretty good battery life, but I think Tiamat's with smartass may be a little better. With any kernel I've had it overclocked to 1.03.
Also, the brightness settings based off of HTC's ROM that were posted in the cm nightly thread in the development section have worked great. I've definitely noticed an increase in battery life.
I use advanced task manager with the shortcut on the desktop. I leave essentials running in the background but try to make sure everything else is killed.
All in all with the current setup I have I can get roughly 12-14 hours with heavy texting, 4-5 phone calls, internet and games scattered throughout the day.

Hey please don't tear my head off, Ive been looking through all the threads that I can, but haven't really found an answer.
So I got my g2 and left it stock for a couple of days and the battery did pretty good, meaning I didn't have to charge it during the day. I then rooted and flashed cm 6.1.1 stable and the battery was terrible it would drop about 1% every 5 min or worse if I was playing a game or using maps etc.
I tried switching to pershoot's cm_2632.28 012211 and it was just as bad. I then tried reverting to a back up of stock and it is still bad, I also tried RC4 and one of the nightlies, same problem. I tried wiping the battery stats with the instructions on cm's wiki, still terrible.
It is really frustrating to me and I have been looking around and it seems a lot of people are having trouble with battery life. I don't really want to buy another battery, and have tried removing anything on my phone that could use battery (widgets, apps, etc.) I also think it's odd that Cell Standby takes up the most battery.
So really what I want to know is does anyone have an idea of something for me to try? A mistake I might have made? Tip? Or am I just crazy in expecting my battery to last the day on stock?
Any help would be appreciated thanks
A lot of people who ran the cm rom seemed to have this problem I don't and I assume it only happened after cm and still occuring I think somethings wrong with cm's kernal idk but it seems like it shorts out the battery because I ran a wrong kernal on my stockrom and had terrible battery life.

The battery truly might be a dud... The fact that your Cell Standby consumes most of the power is probably normal because you said you stripped your phone of widgets, apps, etc.
My gf has a Wildfire and her first battery couldn't last more than a couple hours, and she's a fairly light user. She switched out the battery and now it's fine, goes for a couple days now..
I am running cm 6.1.1 oc to 1.2 I do not have this issue. Try a new battery maybe?
Which kernel are you using? And with what settings?
Kernel is toxygene #1, screen brightness auto, gps off, bluetooth off, Wifi only when I need it, "wcdma only" so I don't get any edge drop-offs, overclocked to 1.2ghz-368mhz screen on, 245mhz screen off. My battery will last 9-12 hours of normal use, that's a few calls, some txting, facebook, mp3s in the car on the drive home from work, and an hour or two of XDA. I unplug at for work at 10am, I let it die and charge from 0 every day..
Google sync every hour, weather widget sync 4 hours, facebook widget every hour. Those are all my widgets.
You should really upgrade to CM7 now. Pretty stable, and my battery life is SO MUCH BETTER. If I use my phone heavily I will lose about 30~40% during the ENTIRE DAY lol. So my battery with moderate usage will easily last 12 hours. Before I had the exact same battery life as yours.
Also, I'm using the UV kernel from pershoot.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
I'm on Virtuous v0.9.0 and I routinely get 12-15 hours a day out of my phone. That's with brightness set full, WiFi running (and usually connected), Tweetdeck, gmail, gtalk, etc all running with constant updates, etc.
If I pull it off the charger at 7a, by 7p I'm typically still around 20%, depending on how much extra use I've done (sms, voice calls, etc)
Yes, the newer version of virtuous is great on battery life and doesn't even have to be oc. I just flashed back to cm today to get everything up to date (I'm ocd like that and have to have all my ROMs current) and I too am having the cell standby issue with 70% battery after 2 hrs and light use. Just flashed the newest pershoots and letting it fully charge before I clear batt stats... will report back.
Have setcpu set to lowest with screen off and oc 1.2-346mhz

synchronization
I am using Visionary 0.9.0 and I had lousy battery life too, and have now either turned off background synchronization or at least made it very infrequent for all my apps that use it (facebook, peep/twitter, HTC Sense, HTC Hub, News, Weather, etc. etc.)
This has made a very big difference!
The biggest difference of all came from turning off synch within the HTC Sense and HTC Hub apps. These were having trouble connecting to their servers, and were constantly tying up my 3G signal causing battery drain. This change alone has almost doubled my battery life.
I recommend you check what is using wifi/3G and how much before we assign blame to kernel or ROM.
Also, I can recommend GreenPower app which turns off connectivity automatically when it's not needed, greatly extending battery life. However after a long period of using this successfuly, I have turned it off as I started having trouble "waking" my 3G connection during the day. Hopefully future updates will help with that app.
I had the same problem with my first G2 and after complaining/convincing T-Mobile it was defective, they sent me a replacement and that problem never came up again.
Alright I feel stupid but I was charging my phone with my bluetooth charger (didn't even think about it) but now I'm using the stock charger and my battery is lasting way longer. Night and day difference. I don't exactly understand why this would make such a difference in technical terms but eitherway major facepalm.
Dear all,
I have a EURO Desire Z.
When I use a Sense based ROMs (in fact, stock or Virtuous) I have a fairly nice battery life, that is, in the 30 hours range.
However, with any kind of CM6 or CM7 (or even Vilain ROMs), the battery life is really reduced. Like 12-15h max (almost without any use).
The battery monitor will show that most power is eaten by Cell Standby, Wifi and Bluetooth. I tried different radios, but the result is still the same. I also tried various CPU governor settings, but it didn't change the big picture.
Any idea on what may be wrong ?
I found that CM6.1.1 did that to me too, but reverting to 6.1 got me very good battery life. While I like the Sense widgets, I much prefer vanilla for everything else so i have't lived with a Sense rom long enough to see if it gets better battery life than CM6.1

I have the exact same issue as you with CM6 (retarded <12 hr battery life with light-moderate use). After seeing your post, I've decided to try a sense rom for myself. Will post results tonight or in a day.
Nope. Still drains like ****.
This may be teaching you to suck eggs, but are you recalibrating your battery after flashing a new ROM?
I found my battery life was immediately atrocious after flashing, until I completely drained the battery til phone wouldn't switch, then charge while switched off, until green light + a couple of hours. Then wipe battery stats in ClockworkMod.
After this, I found my battery life on CM 6 was really good.

No, I never did that. I'm not really familiar with the "battery calibration" stuff, but it sounds like something that will help to get good linearity in battery capacity estimation over time.
What I'm pretty sure, though, is that at some point (like 10-12h), the phone turns itself off. I believe that it has to do with insufficient voltage at battery terminals, rather than some sort of estimation of remaining capacity.
Or am I totally off ?
Hey there,
I want to know what is the BEST setup to maximize battery life. What ROM? What Kernel? What UnderVolt ( if any )? What Radio?
My room mate has an iPhone that he modded and it now lasts two days without being charged and that's with moderate usage. I'd like to out do him with my Android. Any help?

So far personally I've had the best experience with the following :
ROM : CM7 ( 7.0.0 )
Kernel : Tiamat 2.6.32.27
Radio : 11.19
I can't seem to get undervolting to work since I don't have the folder that Viper describes even though I am using an AOSP rom ( as far as I know ) . o.o It's odd really... Anyways, that usually gets me about 20 hours of usage or so .
Twenty hours isn't bad, as the Incredible isn't known for it's battery life. You won't get what your roommate's getting with his phone, maybe get a bigger battery...? I don't think you're going to really out do yourself with the experience you've posted, I'd be happy with that.
I am running SkyRaider 4.0, Chad's 12232010 kernel, OC'd to 1.0368 (small OC, I know) with the leaked 04.08 radio, and I can get about 20 - 24 hours before charging, low to moderate usage (no games, emails for work/personal, maybe 1 call of 5 minutes, lots of web browsing).
Cm7 stock kernal. On metro pcs with a seidio 3500 mah extended battery. Unplug at 7am 12 hours later only sitting on 74% lmao. And in that time bout 100 text. And 200 work emails.. and 30 mins of surfing on lunch. This setup has been the best for me on bat life.. used to run sense and my bat life would just suck..

Two things that will kill your battery faster than anything:
-Anything that syncs
-your screen
So, turn your brightness and screen timeout down and turn off anything you don't need syncing all the time, or at least turn the sync frequency down.
Also, keep your wifi, vibration, tactile feedback, and gps off unless you really need it.
Kernels, roms, undervolting...no where near as effective.
Think about your phone as a smaller version of a laptop (which it pretty much is), what's going to save you the most energy: throttling your cpu speed, or turning the screen brightness down?
Much love brother
Last straw was last night. Had 13% battery life left before softball last night and knowing I wouldn't use my phone during the games, but having been burned by my battery before, I shut my phone down before the games. Played softball for two hours then turned my phone on. Booted up long enough to see that I had 0% battery before it shut down again.
What am I doing that's causing this? I get maybe 10 hours out of a Seido 1750mAh battery. I have no apps that do background updates. I keep my display on "dim" most of the day. I go most days without even making or receiving a single phone call!
Ideas? Thanks for any help. This is really frustrating.
Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3
Kernel: 2.6.37.4-cyanogenmod+ [email protected] #27
Baseband: 2.05.00.06.11
Seido 1750 mAh battery
I'm not sure, but there have been claims that Seidio inflates their numbers and their 1750 mah battery isn't actually that much. Has this been something that has been happening gradually? Like your battery life is degrading over time and now it's at an unbearable point?
Try a different Kernel or Baseband. I'm using MIUI w/ incredikernel and get great battery life w/ stock battery. I'm also using 2.15.00.07.28 Baseband. I use SetCPU to set a screen off profile of 245min 245max, havn't noticed any lag while having that set. If you wish to update your radio easily you could download "Inc Bits" from the market. Great app has all of our phone radios, all you need to do is rename it and move to SDcard.
Agree with tcberg2010 here. Try incredikernal with Smartass governor. Check out vipermod. I was having intense battery issues which i posted about a week back. My suggestion would be to get spare parts app and check partial wakelock to see if anything is keeping your phone up. I use maps occasionally and it turns out that it was causing partial wakelock constantly. After disabling a locations and gps i am back to standard battery life. Looking forward to next cyanogenmod update, hope there is a fix...
If your phone died while it was turned off, then I would either have battery tested or get another one it could have an internal problem.
Yeah unless the phone some how got turned on in your pocket (I'm not sure how, but it has happened to me), There should be minute if not no drain on the bat at all. I'm not sure where you can get it tested, but I would certainly be wary about that bat. Do you still have the stock 1300? I'd check to see if it looses charge while the phone is off. Maybe there's a short in the phone.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm at about 10.5 hours right now and 7% left with the only thing I've changed being the battery. I went back to my stock battery. Going to try a new radio first, then vipermod.
try the "battery moniter widget" from the market. it keeps perfect tabs on your battery, can tell you the REAL mA of your battery, temp, usage stats, all kinds of stuff. it's really a good app to use to watch your battery...you could also use MIUI, and watch your battery life almost double. it's superior to CM7 in so many ways. and the people that have used both, i think pretty much agree...
I've about had it with my EVO 4G. I can barely use the thing before the battery is down to 30% or lower. When I first unplug it in the morning, I'll browse reddit or XDA for all of 5-10 minutes and my battery will go down to 75% easily. I've tried tons of ROMs (running Energy w/Shooter Anthrax kernel as I heard it got amazing battery life) I've tried resetting the battery stats -- i've tried unplugging and replugging in the phone multiple times when the charge light is green, I've tried just about everything I can find on here dealing with battery issues and to no avail! Listed in my battery stats the only thing that's ever high is my Display usage but even factoring that in should I really only be getting an hour or two of mild internet usage before my battery is completely depleted? I can barely make it through a 6 hour work day (checking texts on breaks, light internet, maybe a 5 minute phone call) without having to recharge it in my car.
I'm open to ANY suggestions short of buying a new battery -- sadly it's not an option at the moment.
Do you keep 4G on? That drains a battery like nothing else if left on. Same with GPS, especially in Sense Roms for some reason.

i recommend using a aosp rom if battery life is a MUST. I would suggest you use Decks aosp rom with CoD tweaks Tiamat 3.7.7 and vipermod and underclock to 500 on smartass governor........all this is what you should do if you choose decks rom
Make sure your 4G is off, but Evo is known for its horrible battery but thats ridiculous. Try a new kernal to adjust to CPU settings. If that doesn't work, you might need a new battery. Evos are know for having their battery fried easily, mine fried and I had to get a new battery. :/
You should definitely make sure your 4g, Gps, Wifi, and blue tooth is off. If that does not work I would strongly suggest you downloading Cyanogenmod 7.1. When you aren't using the phone under clock it and do medium speed when you are using it. I last around 8-9 hours doing this. Hope it helps.
Okay I installed Decks Evo GB rom and the Tiamat 3.3.7 kernel. I followed the guides but couldn't seem to do the undervolting correctly with the apps i was provided...but i'll do some testing and report back!
Can someone point me in the direction of the right app for undervolting and whatnot?

vipermod is used for undervolting http://vipermod.tiamat-dev.com/vipermod-voltage-control/
Also, it could just be that your battery is tired. Is it at all swollen, in the least bit or rock hard? It should feel firm, but give a little.
People tell me all the time, "my battery is not holding a charge", it's not designed to. But, how it releases the charhe, is another story. Obviously, it's also dependant on use. Remember, the phone is only rated at 5 hours talk time. I can't think of a time I've actually tried that, but when I have been caught on the phone for extended periods I've only gotten at most 2 hours of conversation out of a full battery.

I had an Evo, loved it,but the battery was trash, even when I bought my 3500 mah battery, the juice in it wouldn't last a whole day, sorry man, there's just no hope for that phone, without undervolting properly

my battery doesnt last too bad in my evo. granted not like the old days, but i do get about 12-15 hours on a 1700 mah battery and a powerskin charging case with a built in 1500 mah battery. This is in a poor service area.. constantly switching into and out of roaming. i keep 4g, wifi, mobile network all off and screen brightness at about 25%.. this is with moderate txt, some light game play, occasional turn on 3g to check email and browse web. im expecting better now thzt i am rooted with energy rom and anthrax kernel.
