T-Mobile Web (Unlimited T-Zones) - $5.99 Restoration - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

I just got off the horn with T-Mobile Blackberry-PDA Support. T-Mobile engineers ran some sort of test matching smart phones to the appropriate service they are to have. Those of us who have grandfather data plans were are knocked off today in preparation for T-Mobile releasing Windows Phone 7 devices from HTC, LG and Samsung starting next month. TMBS restored my SIM card settings on my lines on their end to match service codes on each of my lines That said, my internet service on my lines were restored prior to I calling them. I confirmed in another thread that changing my APN from "epc.tmobile.com" to "wap.voicestream.com" restored my internet service; however all of this being bang-bang; I can't be sure. All my lines came back up while adjusting my device settings and talking to TMBS.
HD2 users only - TMBS mentioned there have been some issues with the HD2s switching from Wi-Fi to Mobile Internet and obtaining internet service.

Bell Mobility: HTC 6800 Mobile Web Browsing (vs HTC Touch)

I think many HTC6800 owner on bell network are trying to figure out how to use the $7/mo unlimited "Mobile Web Browsing" *feature* that was only offer to HTC Touch owners.
I have done some searching around and nothing is conclusive. So I am hoping this thread will come up with an answer...
The theory: HTC Touch & HTC 6800 are similar devices, and it is believe some software config (e.g. point to a proxy server in HTC Touch) which will enable the "Mobile Web Browser" Traffic vs to HTC 6800 count toward Data Packet traffic. Also from various sources, including myself spoke to Bell tech reps, they can't really tell us what's the technical reason why 6800 can't have that feature other than 6800 is a PDA device cuz it has a keyboard. (Note: HTC Touch Pro also count as PDA device)
So, let's share what you have found and if someone may even know how (if possible) to make a HTC 6800 to use Mobile Web Browser feature....
From reading the Mobile Browser description on the Bell Mobility website, it really looks like this feature is directed towards standard handsets and not PPC devices. But you mentioned that it works for the Touch? I agree that there should be a way to make the 6800 connect in the same way. I read about Bell's ability to detect exactly which port your using and break down what "they" consider "Internet", "Email", and "Messenger". For example if you had a Touch and this Mobile Browser feature but went onto Google Maps, apparently they would slice you up with charges...
I forgot to rant....
Those bastards at Bell recently removed my data plan so I am really pissed at them. They were going to charge me through the nose for the unlimited data plan. So I am desperately looking for revenge... For example, I am sure there is a way to connect to a different data network (on the 6800 I notice it connects with #777) that technicians or engineers would use which is completely free and unmonitored. Now I just have to find out what the dial out code is to get free unlimited data for life!...
my touch's unlimited browser plan never gave me trouble for extensive google maps usage and/or downloads, but the touch is a piece of crap in my books. I'd love to upgrade to an apache, but won't if I can't do the unlimited browser. What a shame.
just a note: the touch always connected to the data network via #777 as well

AT&T branded/unbranded device with unlimited/2gb Data

There are a couple apps that i am curious about using that the samsung focus normally dont use. The apps are Network Profile, and Wireless manager that are from samsung. I am thinking that the reason i cant use these apps are because my device is branded to AT&T and have a contract with them. There is another app that i also have called Debrander that takes the device off AT&T.
What i am thinking is if the Network Profile and Wireless Manager would work if device was unbranded? I also have been watching my data plan and usage after tricking AT&T by Switching devices and giving them the IMEI number off my other device, my LG-VU. I have been on the unlimited plan with the focus for about 3 weeks now and still hasn't been detected.
I have switched the IMEI to the LG-VU but still am using the Focus and have dialed *3282# and it comes back that my old data "2gb" has been deactivated and shows how much data has been used with the unlimited data plan.
So i Debranded my device from AT&T and it still dont allow me to use either one of those apps. Would it help in any way to be able to use these apps to keep from being detected when using the Internet Sharing feature that i have added to my device? Maybe some other registry hacks, or modifying the Network Profile and Wireless Manager xaps so they would work?

How To VVM on AT&T (confirmed Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash)

Many of you are aware of a thread in the Focus S section of this forum about someone with their Focus S getting VVM to work. However, it wasn't the most helpful thread to replicating it. I have since replicated this on a different device (the Focus Flash), so I wanted to post something here to let more people know.
Thanks to davezaff for the idea.
Here is how I did it on my Focus Flash. You will probably need a way to edit the APNs.
1. Update to 7740
2. Update to 8107
3. Insert sim card into an AT&T Android LTE phone (I used skyrocket)
4. Go to att.com and switch plan to Data Pro 4g LTE plan. I had to call to switch since it wasn't working on the website.
5. Setup VVM on Android LTE phone (don't know if this is necessary, but this is what I did....make sure friend knows the VM password so they can re-add it when they put their sim card back in.
6.Insert sim card back into Windows Phone
7. Call Voicemail
8. Wait for VVM to show up on phone (mine showed up after calling voicemail).
9. If sync error, edit the APN as follows
APN settings (delete the internet_line APN)
Create a new APN
APN Name: pta
Profile Category: internet (always on)
APN: pta
Auth type: None
Username:
Password:
Proxy address: proxy.mobile.att.net
Proxy domain:
Proxy port: 80
I now have working VVM on AT&T with my Samsung Focus Flash. My internet tethering still works (applied the Interop unlock + tethering hack from XDA). I have not tested MMS since I did this, but the MMS APN was untouched.
So they have tied vvm with their stupid data plans, how nice. So I can pay $20 for 300mb + vvm or I can pay $10 for unlimited data and traditional vm... ATT is so dumb.
Moved To WP7 General
This is not development, its more of a guide. Please post such threads in the WP7 General section
For the normal person, it is pay $30 for 3GB of data with traditional VM or pay $30 for 3GB with VVM. The only difference is one plan has the word LTE at the end.
how can one even get the 8107 update on the samsung focus s? i tried the old force update method (disconnecting the internet connection) with zune, and that hasn't worked...

Yes, and just download the English only language pack.
i already updated to 8107, but im asking if the vvm works for the titan, i also don't know anyone with an LTE android phone
Does this work if you don't setup VVM on the android device first? I was thinking of just calling AT&T and asking to be switched to the 4G plan.
Get it working without an LTE device
OK, I got this to work on my Lumia 800. Furthermore, I didn't have an LTE device.
What I did have however, is an AT&T store that caters extensively to my place of work (a software company). They are really nice, understand unusual requests, and try everything to help.
I did the following:
1. Upgrade the OS as per the original post.
2. Call the nice AT&T store that I mentioned above. Asked them to put me on an LTE plan. (I was already on an enterprise plan, so I was moved to the same enterprise plan but the LTE version. Cost of my plan remained unchanged).
I explained that I was doing some app development, and planned to be swapping phones from time to time, some of which are LTE phones. (I also have a microsim adapter, so moving between phones that take microsim and regular sim is not an issue for me).
They asked if I'd like VVM provisioning. I said yes.
They told me that they would change my listed phone to a blank IMEI (basically change the IMEI listed on my account to a blank IMEI that's associated with an LTE phone for provisioning purposes). I don't know if this is something all stores would be willing to do.
3. In the APN settings, I changed my APN to pta. I did NONE of the other settings mentioned (proxy, proxy port, and everything else are BLANK).
Now I have Visual Voicemail on my Lumia 800!
Hmm so why is vvm only available to LTE phones/network I want to get this.
Sent from my SGH-i937 using Board Express Pro.

...because AT&T wants to sell LTE devices.

I wonder if this blank IMEI is a special IMEI that at&t has to test LTE devices on accounts or something. I wonder if this IMEI would also work on other accounts as well. Hmmm.
I don't suppose that IMEI is something you could share possibly? I mean if its not a real phone, and can work on multiple accounts, it would be very nice to (selectively) share it so that some of us can get VVM.

I agree, since I just called asking for essentially this setup and they deniened any special IMEI.

So i also have an 800 and asked them to provision me for HSPA+ recently, so they switched my data plan to one that was supposed to be able to access it (i have no idea if it really can - that's a whole different can of worms). What did they switch your plan to? If you look online and hit "recent usage", you can see under "Additional Data Purchased Usage" your data lines with the plan code. My code is "HSSMTD4O" Just wanted to see if i could skip the "call att" step.
Thought I would share my experience also..
I was able to get VVM working on my Focus Flash. Luckily I have a friend that works at the ATT store. He just took a Samsung Note scanned the IMEI and added that as my phone. Then he enabled LTE and VVM. I rebooted phone and went in the the phone tile, and VVM prompted me for password. I put in password and all has been good.
The easiest way would probably be to borrow a friends VVM supported phone and put your sim in it, then have them add VVM to your account.
I did not have to add any APN's or make any changes to the phone.
Getting it working without a LTE device and without AT&T in your pocket
So, I decided to try and get VVM setup on my Focus S today, but I have no friends with AT&T and the local store was unwilling to help in the fashion outlined above.
So what to do? Well the main thing you need for this is the IMEI number from an Android LTE phone. So I asked a couple friends that don't live close by, and none of them had a LTE phone.
So I searched the internet for those "Get unlock Codes" websites, specifically for tutorials on LTE phones, and some of them show the IMEI number.
So I went into chat support and told them I needed a LTE plan with visual voicemail, and they asked for the IMEI number, I gave it to them, and then 2 minutes later VVM is now provisioned and working properly.
Yeah so I ended up adding the IMEI of a random Galaxy Note that I do not own. It was dead simple to do it online through tech support chat. After that, just called up voicemail, waiting a second or two, hung up, and then my phone prompted me for my voicemail password and automatically enabled visual voicemail. I realize that AT&T's system does not check for duplicate IMEIs across the network, so you can throw the same IMEI onto any number of phones and AT&T wouldn't know a thing (until they start looking of course).
I did have to change my APN to "pta" to get it to sync properly, but after that it was all smooth sailing.
Now I've got Visual Voicemail on my Titan and Lumia.
I am glad some of you were able to get it to work. The big issue I had before starting this thread was getting the APN settings. After getting VVM enabled, it couldnt connect until I messed with the APN. Glad I was able to help y'all!

[Q] Tethering Question - Ports?

OK fellas. Here's a good one for you. I use a Motorola hand-held for work with Windows Mobile on it. I'm in sales, so I use tethering with my phones to send out my orders every day while I'm at work (aka on the go).
Wifi tethering worked EXCELLENT with my Atrix 4G, no matter the ROM. I had a tethering plan, so I didn't need to worry. I got rid of that in pursuit of a WP7 phone and got a HTC Surround. Needless to say I panicked when the ROM didn't even HAVE a tethering option. So, I flashed a custom one. Bam, Wifi tethering worked great.
Fast forward to now, I have a Lumia 900. Nothing has changed, I have the DataPro 5GB Tethering plan, the phone has tethering and it works with my Laptop.. BUT not with my handheld. For whatever reason, it gets hung up on "Creating Data Port" (on the handheld) and will not proceed. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening? Does the Lumia block certain ports or something, or do I have to switch phones/wait for a custom ROM?
Thanks fellas,
Nick
Probably not related Lumia. It uses standard WP7 tethering (with the added account check) feature. What's different is that all LTE phones use a new APN called pta in order to connect with LTE (even if you are not in a LTE area). This new APN is known to have additional layer of network filtering on AT&T side. Not much you can do about that. Not sure if it is related to your specific problem. But you can try to switch to older Phone or wap.cingular APN and see what happens (you will loss LTE).

May give it a shot. For some odd reason, it worked today. A few nights ago I removed and re-added the tethering plan online to my account (even though the phone tethered fine with my laptop) and today for the hell of it, I tried it with my work handheld and it went through . We'll see how consistent it is. Thanks for the input/solution, though!

Having trouble with Sprint Note 4 Activated on Boost

So my girlfriend has a Sprint Note 4 she activated on boost. We called customer service, had the phone added, he gave us a ## code to activate and everything seemed to go smooth. Phone rebooted a couple times and then popped on with Boost splash screen and the whole nine, cool we figured all was well.
Issues we started to have are two fold, sometimes she can't send text messages. Phone calls seemed to work fine no issue.
The other issue though thats more concerning is the phone doesn't seem to want to establish a 4g connection, when the phone boots its unable to download a firmware upgrade(which I'm assuming is from boost?) and we get the message "unable to establish reliable data connection" but 3g does seem to work. Because of this it was unable to "update the boost server(or profile)"(I believe thats what the message said)
I'm a VZW retail salesman and this issue reminds me of a sim issue I've seen a couple times, but all we did was pop the sim from her old LG Stylo into the note, anyone have any ideas?
I'm wondering if it's an APN issue, but this sprint note 4 on Marshmallow doesn't seem to allow access to edit the apn.
Note 4 on Boost Mobile
Hi!
I just did this. I switched from VZW to boost a month ago and since no boost phones are beefy enough for my regular usage on mobile devices I got a used note 4 and went to the local boost store to swap it over, I called and tried to do myself calling CS on the phone or website and failed. Paid the $10 and everything is working fine. I think since you got the new boost mobile boot animation you should be fine.
When at the store the lady told me the phone NEEDS the SPRINT sim card and maybe part of the reason I was having trouble was due to me trying to use my original boost mobile SIM card.
I am sure your aware but this is the disclaimer from the boost mobile site at https://www.boostmobile.com/#!/support/faq/phones-devices/activate-a-sprint-phone/ ....
"Voice, basic text, and web will be available on eligible Sprint phones.
Due to technical differences between the Boost Mobile and Sprint MMS platform, we CANNOT guarantee that MMS (aka picture messaging) will be available on these phones. In addition, we do NOT guarantee that all Sprint specific or other preinstalled applications may be available or functional (e.g., Sprint TV, Nascar, Sprint Football Live, Sprint Navigator, Mobile Wallet, Wireless Backup).
NOTE: If your Sprint phone asks you to check for Wireless Back up Availability, select No.
Instant Messaging and Mobile Email services will vary by device. For email access, customers can enter their email client's URL into the web browser.
"
You said sometimes you can't sent/get text messages(which implies SMS), did you mean MMS(picture, video, messages with subject lines, group messages, texts longer than 160 characters, etc) ? No SMS would be activation issues, no MMS sounds like APN issue.
I'm no SIM expert, but my understanding is, for CDMA/LTE anyway, that APN settings are applied to the device from the SIM card. I assumed the SPRINT device on Boost would just use all boost apns like my boost device did. However when I compare my boost mobile device APNs and my Sprint device (on boost) APNs they are slightly different.
Maybe try using the original SIM that came with the Note ?
My APN on my Sprint Note 4 flashed to Boost Mobile are;
Bah... I can't copy paste, how about I take some screenshots and also attach my APNs config XML ?
To edit APNs, from the dial pad enter ##3282# , you will need the MSL code.
Hope you get it working.
Anyone with insight for using Sprint stuff on Boost your additional insight would be appreciated.
~thehoovie
Oh, you can also try this as well,
"Refresh Customization"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsung.refreshDevice
I did mess around with some stuff trying to get roaming to work and this app automated the programming and activation processes to bring me back to original (boost mobile) settings.
