At the Windows Phone 7 Launch yesterday, nine new WP7 devices were announced! That's a lot of phones, and each will eventually have a home here at XDA. But we wanted to see which YOU think we should launch first. Please vote in this poll, and choose up to three.
What about an HTC HD2 subforum for WP7 development on the HD2!
With HTC getting the most support from XDA I'm gonna say it's a HTC device. And since it's usually flagship, then I'm gonna say HD7...My next phone if a Zune HD2 doesn't come out.
it has to be the father of all mobiles ; HD7

"HD2 Phone 7 Developement"
I present to you our first WP7 forums:
HD7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=778
7 Mozart:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=779
Focus:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=780
The Samsung Focus will be available well ahead of the HTC devices so I say make the ones available first that will actually have hardware in the wild.
Edit:
I see that it's already there.
why is the omnia 7 grouped in with the focus? they are not the same phone.
and im sure most of those votes will have been for the omnia 7.
I agree. Is there going to be a seperate Omnia 7 forum? The focus doesn't look like the Omnia, more like it's cheaper cousin.
I vote for the Dell Venue Pro as the next forum. Thanks
Well as the HTC HD 7 is one of the few phones with 16 GB memory it gets my vote.
Shame I lost my HD2 thought.

Just wondering what kind of people hangs out here.
I see a lot of questions from people who are new to Android as well as a lot of answers by people who seem to be very comfortable with this OS.
If you will, mention specific device that you've used before HTC Desire in your response.
I'm coming from a Touch HD running Winmo 6.1..... It's done a good job, but looking for a more intuitive UI, more apps and functionality (not limited by cupertino ) ...... android seems to tick all those boxes. From what I've seen WinMo 7 doesn't really appeal to me. Hope that app development for android will take off even more quickly.... but that should be the case given the growth of the platform. Waiting for my Desire.....

Blackberry Storm v1...the Desire is sooooo much better....This is my first android device.
Nothing beats the blackberry email service...unless theres a email spam filter for Android out there ?!?.... is there ? (sorry - i should really create a new topic for that question!)
Touch Diamond,wm 6.1
I was using a T-mobile G1 with Android 1.6 before the Desire.
I (am) was using HTC Kaiser, still waiting the Desire.
This waiting time is killing me, hopefully Clove really can deliver next week!
In the meantime (since yesterday), I installed Android 2.1 EClair on my HTC Kaiser. It works very well and I could use it to try and test Android apps
maybe add some more detail to this poll, such as hd2, touch pro 2, diamond 2, hero, g1, nexus one, blackberry storm etc
I have come from a Blackberry 8700 and still have an HP iPAQ Data Messenger for work.
And the missus has an iPhone. Just missing the Symbian I guess
selling my HD2 on eBay today, getting my desire on thursday. had a touch diamond before, and also a touch HD. Time for a change me thinks, Android is up and comng, not so limited either. especially with this site too
I was using a Nokia 5800XM then took on my girlfriends old HTC Tattoo...loved it so much i went for the Desire
HTC HD2. My Desire has opened up a whole new world for me! Would never go back to WM6.5 and very unlikely to go to WM7.
I still have a Samsung i8910 Omnia/Player HD, running Symbian OS S60v5. I'll be getting my Desire sometime next week hopefully.
I cannot wait to enter the Android world!
Only ever had WinMo OS devices, new to Android, got shot of my Orbit and bought a sim free LG Cookie, paired it with an o2 Simplicity sim, and we've been plodding away quite merrily over the past year
...signed up to a few forums, like this one, in anticipation of replacing my humble LG Cookie with the HTC Desire.
Still gleaming nfo and price watching
iPhone 3G.
After a few months it was just usless.
Bye bye Windows!!!
Finally got a high spec hardware Android from HTC to relieve me of the turmoil that is Windows Mobile. I spent years hoping they'd get their act together and create something usable but finally gave up and bought the Desire after using a Hero for a month last year.
Owned the HTC HD2, Touch HD, Touch Pro 2, Vario 2 & 3 so tried but Microsoft just couldn't get it right no matter how much the great Rom cookers such as Dutty and HTC's sense tried to cover the sham up. They did their best but at the end of the day, they were limited by WinMo underlying in there.
Freedom of the Desire is something I'm loving and I ain't looking back!
i also tried the Omnia HD (great hardware, poor OS), the Nokia 5800 (bad allround) and even Samsung Galaxy (shame it wasn't updated from 1.5 android as couldve been ok-ish!)
HTC have always impressed me and have moved forward in leaps and bounds over the last 3 years, coupling that with Android as it's now coming to maturity is a perfect combination.
I'm coming from a SE K800i so this Desire is a bit special !!
Came from HTC hero used for about 5 months before going desire 4 days ago....Can wait for Google's OS to come so that I can get rid of Windows 7 on my PC....
Previously have been using winmo for the last 5 years....
I have an Iphone. Planning to buy the Desire next monday in HK.

The point of the poll was to find out what platform people come from and then they can share what phone they've used before in the post.

Now I must say I'm quite surprised to see how many people used platforms other than Android before getting an Desire. I'd say that's great, it means Android android adoption is speeding up.
The smartphones that I've used are listed in my signature. Of course I had many dumbphones before that, but those don't count any more
I think Android and iPhone OS are the only two real competitors in today's market because no other platform will ever catch-up. I might be wrong - you never know... So since I don't like closed nature of iPhone and no choice in hardware, I will stick with Android for a while.
Hi
My contract is up for renewal soon and I've decided to give the Android platform a go after using WM pda phones for 10 years or so.
I'd narrowed it down to the Desire then saw the Samsung Galaxy S with its built in 8 / 16 gb and had a brief moment of "which one".
However, I currently have a Samsung i900 which I've had for 18 months and while its okay, it doesn't seem as good as previous HTC models I've had, especially the screen so the Desire is back to the top of the list.
My wife has recently got an iphone 3gs and the screen and interface on that is awfull when compared to what I'm used to although she loves it but shes never used any of my phones in the past.
The only reservation I have about changing to Android is that I have all my favorite WM programs in Cab format and can set up a new WM device in a couple of minutes. Still, the unkown aspect will be fun and there is plenty of support on this site which I've missed with the i900 although the Modaco guys are very helpful.
Anyway, enough waffle. I'll probably be back soon with questions on how to do this or that.
Once you have apps on yur device you can back them up onto your SD card to be reinstalled easily in future so that takes care of that!
I came from a HD2 and Android is a million miles ahead of WinMo IMO - and the Desire is an awesome device, better than the iPhone 3GS
Get one, you won't be disappointed
As somebody who has just moved from a long term WM relationship to the Desire I can tell you that it didn't hurt.
The learning curve is not that steep and apart from a few niggles, I am not missing anything (apart from Live Mesh) yet.
I feel like a kid thats waiting for xmas - getting impatient but excited cos I know that my contract'll be up in a few days. Desire here I come.
from someone who's been on windows mobile for 2 years and had the hd2 since the day of the release, switching to the desire was the best move i ever made. I loved my hd2 but the desire is amazing. I do miss the nice big screen on the hd2 but oh well. IMO android is what windows mobile should have been, it is smooth, stable and i have never needed to perform a soft reset as of yet. I remember with the hd2 i was flashing roms on a weekly basis and use to love customising, but i can honestly say i am glad i switched
As Windows Phone 7 was launched today we wanted to put up a poll based on general perception of the device. If you could buy one today, money not being an issue, would you? We want to see whether Windows phone 7 has been received well by the community.
Cheers,
Steve & XDA News Staff
Wow first one to vote, maybe im just abit excited lol.
Omnia 7 is at the top of my list atm. GSMARENA has a good review of the device already (no idea how they got hold of it)
Im gonna hang on to my current device and by a WP7 phone when they start coming out with a second line of phones.
just bought my desire. WinMo 7 doesn't look too customizable, but only time will tell
Former long time windows mobile user, not impressed, Ill stick with my EVO for now.
Going to get a better Android phone I think... probably Samsung Epic 4G now or Evo (more than the WP7) ones now.
Once I see multiple calendar support, we'll talk. As for now: never.
Like a lot of people here, I have a HTC HD2 and am running WM6.5 and Android 2.2 on it. So, for me, I'll consider a WP7 device once my HD2 either dies (let's pray it never happens) or maybe in 6-12months when it's time for an upgrade.

Me too.... HD2 forever
Our beloved HD2s can run any OS so why switch to WP7 when the HD2 already runs it (Not public yet!)
The hardware in most (currently presented) WP7 devices is as good as our HD2's
So.. maybe I will buy one if the hardware is superior to the HD2's!!!

Um, there is multiple calendar support.
Looks great to me, especially the Dell Venue Pro.
Sure, why not. Every HTC phone that I have had was Windows. Why would I give up now? I have played with the HTC EVO running Android, and I do not like it. I prefer Windows. That is my own personal opinion and choice from experience, and somewhat from what I have spoken with other people who have Android phones from different manufactures, which I have personaly tried and played with for a while with each and every one of them.
I just prefer Windows over anything else.
maybe and unsure is about the same.
im hoping it can be ported to the hd2. that'll save me some money
for sure i will buy the WP7 phone HD7 i think... as i am HTC fan as well as WM.
Not at this time. I love the interface. I just don't like the rest of the story. The system just locks you in. Perhaps if could be jailbroken, that would change things.
Well I got the HTC Desire on Android 2.2 and thus far I don't see anything I prefer in the Win 7 phones that would make me switch. If anything it has less functionality at present with no cut & paste, no tethering and no SD card. I do like some of the features though but will wait and see how they develop this, so for now it's a no.
I think Microsoft has missed a trick with the launch of WP7, by basing the OS entirely for phone devices. As with Android it can be used not only on phones but tablets as well and judging by how the community response to the Sammy Tab is high with enthusiasm i think MS should have looked further forward than just Windows 'Phone' 7 and evolved further ahead with appying its new OS to tablets as well, even if not making it available now but atleast showing a mock up to show its potential of being more than just a phone OS.

What?!? no cut & paste and no sd cards? where can I read up on WP7 features?
Also long time and big time WinMo fan, but I got the EVO and after rooting it, nothing can come close. Win7 simply went the way of iPhone, by locking everything down, so even if it weren't for the rooted EVO being so damned awesome and far above every other phone out there, I wouldn't get a Win7 phone out of iPhone-hatin' spite.

If WP7 can be ported to the HD2 because it's so similar to the HD7, then surely it can be ported to the Wave which is very similar to the Omnia 7 using similar methods.
I'm quite keen on WP7 but all the good handsets are massive. I like the form factor of the Wave, which is a hugely popular phone. I think that porting WP7 to the Wave would be more worthwhile than porting to the HD2 since the HD2 isn't giving us anything new; it's just like a HD7.
I don't own any of these btw. I have an Xperia for now
Does anyone fancy taking up the challenge after the HD2 project is complete?
Oh, this should be in "hacking" really. Can someone please move it?
Thanks
I don't think there would be enough users who have that phone and want Win Phone 7 on it.

I'd tend to disagree. Not only was the Wave the one of the best selling smartphones this year, with over a million sales in the first 4 weeks, it's also practically the same hardware as the Omnia 7, but smaller, draws less power and sells for half the price. I think lots of people would be interested.
Hey tomorrow I have to purchase a new phone for myself.
Previously i owned HTC Viva wm 6.1 phone. I was very happy with it as i can remote desktop my servers, install, play with lot of apps, can view my office docs etc, copy data from any PC but thing missing were GPS and a faster CPU. And at the END that phone was stolen.
Meanwhile i used a cheap Nokia as in interim phone.
HD2 launched: HD2 and Wp7 announcement was made. I was daily visitor of HD2 forums (XDA) learned it was a cool device for me. then the fear of wp7 not upgrading on wp7 dealyed my purchase.
I eagerly followed all wp7 presentations, seminar, webcast etc and believed its a good os by good company.
HD7 launched: Loved its specs and was really looking cool, especially the facebook integration and was very excited. Loved its speed and positive reviews But i looked some of the programs like skype which did not have app for wp7 and copying data only through pissed me.
I didn't liked Android because of its look and feel. and thread by me supports this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624884
Desire HD launched: That one exicted me the specs similiar to HD2 and HD7. I said hey why not look at android when whole world is going after android. And I found it has everything what windows mobile provided and a it more like resolution, 720p videos , google voice support free, skype app. and top of that htc sense , htc offline gps maps locater, www.htcsense.com feature. So I have decided to buy this one.
Hey this is not a flamewar topic and dont start here I like both of them infact are cool to have. If possible I would love to have the wm6 like customization on hd7 or wp7 like UI on DHD both ways are good
Now my questions.
Best feature i like on HD7 is live tiles and facebook integration and live update.
Can we get similiar experience on DHD.
How is the sound quality (call) as well music quality through Headphones.
Is there anything I will miss If I go with DHD not buying HD7?
Sorry I posted in the wrong forum. was trying to post in DHD forum. Mods can u move this to Desire HD forums.

Ehrm.. Well, yeah. The entire WP7 experience. I.e. a phone that just works.
Although, reading your post I think a HTC HD2 would be the perfect device for you as you could run WM6.5, Android or WP7. Hell, you could dualboot your pick of two if you so wanted.
Get the HD7 made for Wp7 and works well. I only wish it had an SLCD.
