Actually, it's not a good idea to back up all the system data. The user apps via Titanium is fine ... google will back up all your contacts, calendar, etc ... even better if you have a gmail account. It's really important that you do a complete wipe (data, cache, dalvik) when flashing a different rom series. The little time it takes you to re-input the data, will be worth the effort in providing a stable system.

I was thinking about doing it through ROM manager would that work as well or should I just do it manually?

Contacts and Titanium Backup

Ok so I rooted my phone full unlock.
So I get titanium backup (running ROM baked the latest 9.6 i think?)
Install it it says it does not see root? or busy box? it says it cannot acquire root privileges.
So I dl busy box install it and it still says it does not see root?
Am I dumb why wont this work?
Also all my contacts should be synced to my gmail right?
I tried to resync to get my contacts back and I have no contacts lol so what did I do wrong?
Thanks
What root method did you use?
The idiot proof guide.
Toasts I think it was.
Can you boot into recovery? power off phone then hold the vol down and power button. Select recovery and hit the power button. It should give you a list of options one being install zip from sd card
Yeah I can install from sdcard
Im running Baked ROM 9.6
I downloaded the titanium backup from the market though.
Is that how I am supposed to install it?
I would do a full wipe and flash the ROM again. It doesnt seem like it is giving you superuser access.
If that does not work I would try a new ROM and test for the same issue

Ok thanks
You know anything about the contacts?
Also to do a full wipe do I just go to rom manager restore my old one (the one I saved before flashing this rom) then wipe the cache and user data then flash the baked rom again?
Sorry still learning thanks for the help btw
I would do another backup just in case. You don't need to worry about restoring your old one. just do a full wipe and flash the ROM again.
The contacts should auto sync. The way it sounds you are not doing anything wrong.
If neither of your problems are resolved after the wipe. I would try to completely different ROM to see if you can duplicate the results

Your contacts should not be SOL. We will get them to work
Whenever you boot into recovery you should see an option that says wipe. select that and select wipe. Inside there you need to select wipe user data, cache, and dalvik cache. Then go ahead and flash the ROM.
I personally use Damage Control, but there are a lot of good ROM's out there just pick one that you like the best.
BakedSnack v9.6 is a good ROM but you might be a little disoriented especially with today being your first day which is FINE, trust me we have all been there. I will try to help you out as much as possible. Currently you are having a hard time with Titanium Backup, etc.
Contacts: Where do you currently have them stored, phone?

Thanks to both of you. First this is my 2nd rooting, my first phone messed up so I know some but not much.
Anyway Im having trouble with titanium backup yes.
Also no I think my contacts are gone I *thought* I synced them through my google. I clicked sync in the accounts and stuff for my contacts but when I try to import them it says they are not there lol.
If they are its not that big of a deal lol
Yes baked snack is a good ROM I didn't mean to imply that it wasnt. Sorry if it did. I have used it myself.
The reason I said try another ROM is strictly for troubleshooting.
You can log into you gmail account to check to see if your contacts are there. If they are we need to figure out why they are not syncing. If they are not then that's why they are not syncing. I hope that helps

no contacts in Gmail UGH
o well got titanium backup working!
Just checking, go to contacts hit menu and click view. make sure google is checked. it probably is but just making sure.
sign into gmail and click contacts. do you see your contacts there? you may have saved them to phone without even knowing it. you can set it to default save contacts to google instead of phone.
if your contacts are in gmail contacts and still wont sync with the phone, disable google sync for everything and make it sync with exchange activesync, it should be able to sync your contacts that way then.
Its checked but no contacts are in gmail =(

That's why your contacts won't sync unfortunately. I'm not aware of a way to restore those. Hopefully you didn't have too many.
I'm glad you got titanium backup running but would you mind if I asked how that way if someone else has that problem they know how you fixed it?

Yeah I did a complete wipe and just flashed the rom again I did it in rom manager though

Question about TitaniumBackups / Clean Wipe

Does TB back settings up so extensively that a clean wipe + TB restore will restore the previous problems? (I'm having issues with the Android Wifi Tether 3rd party app)
What is the advantage of doing a clean wipe + TB restore versus just installing a rom upgrade over the present data, without a wipe?
Just got the Donate version of Titanium and trying to understand how it works in the circumstance of a clean wipe.
Basically does it backup all the good stuff (settings) without backing up anything corrupted that might cause problems? (Assuming a stupid setting isn't the problem since that would be backed up)
Thanks!
Titanium just backs up the apk's unless you also back up app settings, user settings, etc. If there is a problem with corruption, it will probably stay with the backup. You could reinstall the apps you suspect. I would think your problem is corruption in the system itself, so maybe a reflash would help.
But don't flash without wiping, that's just a bad idea anyway. It's not like you're just saving personal settings, you're just painting over the old data. Do a full backup of all apps, data, and user settings, then wipe everything, reflash, and restore things bit by but until you either have the same problems or have everything back.
Just my conservative opinion. Bottom line, I've never seen anybody recommend flashing without wiping.

Well I'm not talking about flashing new roms, just nightly updates of the Cyanogenmod 6 nightlies... I've been flashing them without a problem. I just have this one strange problem.
So basically you're saying that yes, the backup will likely backup the bad corrupted file? Excuse me for sounding ignorant, but if bad files are backed up, then why do people backup their system files at all? Furthermore if Froyo includes application backup/restore why does anyone back anything up at all? Besides for bandwidth consumption.

Ah, yes, sorry, you can flash nightlies without wiping. Backing up is either a restore point before flashing a new ROM (so you can go back if you don't like the new ROM) or as a preventive measure against problems in the future. And not all of us are using Froyo.

[Q] Market Force Quitting

Hello everyone,
First off i wanna say how amazing this forum is and I have been getting my info from here since i had my Qtec S100. Thank you all for doing this.
Now to my question, i am a proud owner of a desire HD which atm has the stock rom on it
I experience force quits on the market application everytime i try to access an app in there or when i try and access my apps.
Steps i have tried and have not worked so far
-clear cache, clear data on the market application and reboot
-clear cache, clear data on Google services Framework
-unistalled and reinstalled market
nothing has worked so far
browsing through the market works fine, as soon as you try to access any application page or my apps it force quits
Anyone has any insight on why is this occuring?Any solutions available?
Thank you in advance for your answers
Just o clarify you have got root ? if so then you have done a nadroid backup (through clockwork recovery) Best option in my eyes is to wipe and reflash recovery image....failing that (if you have no nandorid backup) then just flash a new nightly rom or new gingerbread rc1 rom....but read the roms post carefully prior to flashing....if thatt still doesnt work then im stumped
Have you tried to reboot your phone after you cleared data/cache??
Thanks for the answers,
The is not rooted atm, so no backup here
I have rebooted the phone several times including after clearing caches etc
It is kinda frustrating, so the only actual solution would be to flash a rom?

I am afraid even that would not solve your problem. If i were you, i would try to hard reset my phone first. Ofc, you are going to loose your data so you should do a backup...
well i have all my info online on htc sense and google, the only thing bothering me atm is the saves on my applications, if i do a backup will they be saved?

You can use mybackup to backup your apps+data. I have never tried this so i do not know 100%. But i m quite sure that it should work without any problem.

Backuping before Super Wipe

Heya.
I want to backup my contacts, my SMSs and App Data before doing a super wipe and flashing a new rom. I'd also like to backup my phone settings and apps too, but that probably kinda removes some of the beneficial effects of the wipe.
I've used Titanium Backup to do these things before, but I've been getting more and more FCs that no one else using the rom have reported so I'm thinking my wiping hasn't been fully effective.
What are the best ways to backup these things? I want the backup methods to be easy to do and restore but should leave othing bad behind so I wouldn't get extra FCs.
Best for contacts: Google (?)
Best for SMS: ?
Best for App Data: ?
Thanks alot!

Before flashing a new rom be sure to do backups if you don't want to have problems. But also be aware that some programs may perform different on different ROMs because of kernel, sense ans no-sense roms etc. Some programs I backedup on some roms worked like charm and on some roms they FC, but after uninstall and instal from .apk program works again.
For program and DATA I use Titanium. You can restore only APP, Only DATA or both APP+DATA (which can restore high scores in games or program settings you set).
Titanium backup can also restore screens and system datas like Wi-Fi settings, accounts, SMS messages...... With that system data I found most problems because roms have a different versions of stock programs, and restoring data for facebook old version while backup is made on new version can be a problem. Happened to me. It is best if you restore system data to exact same rom or an updated version of last used rom (my experience).
Contacts you don't have to backup, at least i don't, because they will be pulled back to your phone when you set your google account.
I take screenshots of homescreen and app drawer, just in case that I don't forget something to install.
Full wipe you have to do when you completely moving from one rom to another. If you just upgrading you don't have to full wipe (only if it is necessary, but it will be written on home page of a rom developer). Every rom come with detailed instruction how to install. Some of them have application (.zip) to full wipe and format system. It there is such application you have to use it, if you want FC free DHD.
Hope it helps,
Thanks, looks good. Is it okay to move settings from older rom with older kernel and other things to a newer rom or can these cause force closes? How about app data, I'd like to keep my progress on few games for example, does backuping app data and moving them to a wiped fresh rom cause force closes?
Thanks!
EDIT: Didn't see the last post before this reply, it clears up stuff, thanks!

How to fully wipe your phone?!

Hello!
I'm just a frequent reader on custom romposts, and my hobby is somehow to flash stuff (addicted, my GF hates it) and report on problems and such. I'm sorry if my problem is answered somewhere else but I can't find anything that helps..
Latley while changing roms sensebase and aosp or cm9/10 it seems like i can't fully wipe my phone.
I've tried to empty cache, and data within apps. Android Revolutions SuperWipe script.
I always do a full wipe of everything i can find to wipe (inside recovery factory reset etc) but still Market installs apps, the same wallpaper is set and so on..
The data for ringtones and such is always wiped but I don't feel that my phone gets cleaned out 100% like my old SE X10 which got wiped all the time.
Is there some information about wiping the HTC One X which has been kept in silence or am I just stupid? Idk but i feel that i have to ask!
Thank you in advance!
Well if she really dislikes it, replace her.
Oh, sorry, you wanted help with the phone?
Try checking it's wiped before adding back your google account which restores all the things you said were restored.
With a damp cloth.
Na, seriously, start bootloader, (power on and volume down) and choose clear data or whatever it is. If you log into your google account then your wallpaper and stuff will come back, it's backed up on googles servers and restores automatically. If you don't want that, go into settings, privacy, backup data, and deselect it. That will delete all the data that's backed up with google. Your phone will stay wiped next time!
