Does anyone else think that the G2's hinge is a little flimsy? When I have the keyboard out, the display kind of wiggles in it's hinge.

Cmon, that has to be the most reported issue about this phone. The hinge is kinda loose or as HTC would say "smooth". Personally it doesn't bug me. I think its just different.

I'm not talking about the sliding part, I'm talking about the wiggly part when the keyboard is already out. NVM. FORGET IT.

No, I knew what you meant and experienced this too. It's just how the mechanism works, I guess.
I'm not sure. I was using one at the T-Mobile store. It didn't have the loose hinges nor did it wiggle. My phone has the loose hinges, and it wiggles.
Yeah
I'm starting to see that problem! I have 3 G2s! My girl's, my sister's, and mine's. It seems that I'm the only one with that problem. But I also use my phone more than they do!
I went to my T-Mobile store and every one they had on display or as demos had the same loose hinge as my pre-order one. If you picked up the phone by it's top half it would fall open, and if you held just the keyboard half when it was open and angled it toward yourself and gave it a very gentle shake it would close.
Some people are saying that newer ones aren't as loose, but every one I've touched so far has been loose.
Mine is getting that way after 5 days of use now. I couldn't get it to open turning it upside down, and it was very snug and tight. Now turning it upside and it hangs, and when opened and typing it wobbles. Hinge mechanism seems like it'll fail eventually, sooner rather than later sigh.

Yeah, I am disappointed that I can't trust my device to be knocked up a little.

Why would you go grabbing the half of these phones to test the durability of them? be it top or bottom?...or shaking it...I do not understand that.
That's the problem though, it's not even really getting knocked up. I can only imagine if it falls from anywhere! It's been in my pocket or resting on a table or desk, outside of it in my hands for usage. And just that normal usage in a mere 5 days is causing the hinge to loosen it seems, at least from how it was out of the box. That does not bode well for its lifespan :/
this seems to be happening to alot of ppl! mine does it too, if im laying down and txting i have to have it exactly horizontal if i tilt it forward the screen will just fall...has anyone heard anything official from tmobile or htc about this? if its normal or not? it might just be normal so the keyboard can open really smoothly but then i cant txt laying down lol
you gust must have faulty G2's my phone is solid, no hinge issue at all
I am on my second G2 and it has the same problems only worse as the first one does and did. The hinge is so loose on this one after 1 day that at a restaurant I went to pick it up off of the table and the keyboard just slid out. I am also concerned about the durability of the hinges as in just one day it has gone from a little loose to real Loose. The keyboard now seems to have more give to it. I do like this phone but am undecided as to whether to keep it or not.

Does anybody know of a decent armband for this phone? I had something that worked well for my Tilt2, but I don't think it will fit quite right for the Captivate...
Subbed for this
This looks pretty decent plus it has an extra pocket for keys, cards, condoms...you know, the necessities. http://www.thepocketsolution.com/Me...4&Category_Code=samsung_captivate_accessories
It seems like it might obstruct the headphone jack. It also seems like it barely fits as far as the height goes. Any other thoughts? (thanks for the link though!)
This one has access to the screen and headphone jack. Although there is nothing over the top to secure the phone.
And no I don't have it.

Ahhh,,,,, too late, I didn't see your post in time. It already shipped. This is the AB82 tune belt. Is that the model you had?
Anybody find any other options for these? I'm looking too.
I got the TuneBelt AB82 and you were right. It was to small. I called tunebelt and they happily replaced it for their new AB83. They say its the right size but I haven received it yet. I will report back when it arrives.
I got the AB83 and it fits well. The pouch is deeper than the phone which works well for me because i have my phone in a rubber case. I can push the buttons in the front easily but you have to feel around for the side buttons. The headphone jack isn't in the right spot so I cant put the phone in top down. I guess it will be just fine until something perfect comes out.
thanks for checking back in
anyone found anything better yet? It really kills me that it is hard to for runs with this thing
So this tune belt is working out really well. The top has a slit where you slide the phone in and I have the audio jack running to it there. The plastic window stays lifted from the phone a bit so taps and swipes register perfectly. I got use to the buttons on the sides and can hit them perfectly as well. I think even if something came out that was made specifically for the captivate I wouldn't buy it myself because the tune belt is just about perfect.
really is a good case, I got it after reading this topic a couple weeks ago. Phone fits in very well, even fits in with the Amzer case on it (its a bit more snug obviously). The holes not lining up isn't a big issue, I put it in the other way (with the headphone jack up at the entry point).
As for performance, I did 60 miles on my bike the day it came in. (I was really happy it came in!.. 10 mins before we left) For the most part I forgot it was even there, phone stayed dry from sweat and a brief rain shower. Screen was usable as there was nothing in front of it, and once I dialed in on where the side buttons were inside the case it was smooth sailing there too. Was a good investment.
I just ordered the AB83 after reading this thread. Thanks guys!
Yeah that AB83 looks good, plus they show a Fascinate in it in one of the pics on Amazon. I've been having to hold my phone while I run lol it's scary always hoping the sweat doesn't make me drop it.

don't know if anyone is willing to try this out.

I posted in the Vibrant and i9000 forums, but I got the larger version of the Tune Belt. It fits with my phone still inside it's TPU case which is what I was looking for. I think the smaller version would be too tight if you want to keep it in your case.
If you have above average sized biceps, you will need the extension as the band is one of the shorter ones I've seen, but luckily the extension is very cheap and works well.
Here are some pics.

Damn, too bad none of these accommodate a 18" arm I would much rather have my phone on the arm at the gym instead of in my pocket. Sometimes when bench pressing dumbbells I have to rest the weights on my quadriceps for a short time, but if I do that with the phone in my shorts pockets, then i run the risk of laying 70-90lbs on it
Anyone else's battery cover creak when it is pressed below the camera? I find that when I first put the cover on, it's fine, and then after a few hours, the creaking starts to show up. Wondering how normal this is.
I haven't heard anything from mine yet. One thing I used to do a lot on my Nokia N97 to stop that kind of creaking was to *LIGHTLY* bend out the pins that secure the back cover. Be careful not to overbend them or you'll end up shopping for a new back cover. I don't know how much that will help though, because from what I saw when I put my sim card in, was that all the connectors where located on the edges of the cover.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
No creaking hear. But then again, I didn't go looking for it
IMO, it's not a problem unless it happens without looking for it. All phones have some creaks if you start pressing on them from all different angles. Especially on parts that snap together.
Interesting. I definitely wasn't looking for the problem. it just happens all the time with normal use, because usually my index finger rests there when I'm on the phone, etc. Good to know it may just be mine though. Battery cover should be easy enough to get replaced.
My colleague pointed this out to me with his SGN, mine does it too. He placed a small adhesive padded sticky just below the cam. As i have a case, it doesnt bother me.
Any idea what he stuck to it exactly? That solutions sounds good enough for me
Not quite sure, will try to find out. It was a bit thick in my opinion though as the case stick out a bit around the lenses. Could probably take a scalpel to it tho to thin out the padding.

Got my nexus yesterday and noticed this. Although its not a big deal, its annoying once you notice it!
Do you guys know if Samsung would send me a new back cover for this or would I have to get the whole phone exchanged?
I have the same problem when I press on the green areas of the image I have a little creaking, but it feels when I press a little hard, but still bothers me because it's a $ 700 phone, I bought my phone on ebay to a Chinese seller, so I think I'll have to find a solution for myself.

I have this problem also. It is even worse with the extended battery cover. I love this phone overall but I am not impressed with the build quality.
Just to confirm, my SGN has exactly same weak spot on the back cover, but I'm fine with that It's still better built than my previous SNS with it's loose plastic frame
Yeah, plus on mine there is at least 2 mm between the battery cover and the phone itself just below the camera. Quite annoying ! I think I will put some ducktape.
Sent from xda appel ( Sorry for my bad english, I'm french)
I find this "creaking" almost being a feature I like to press and tap the back cover while waiting when the phone does something, such as downloads from market and so on... it keeps me occupied
I added a small bit of cotton fabric between the battery cover and the phone and it seems to have solved the problem. I just cut a bit about 1cm by 3cm and placed it below the camera. This way I don't have any sticky mess from tape in my phone and I hardly every open the back. Maybe I will super glue it eventually but it works fine to just wedge it in there for now.

I just solve my problem 2 days ago, I did was disassemble the phone and remove the housing and put it back, Now I have no creaking even in the battery cover, my phone is now like a rock.
Well...had my HOX for about 4 weeks now and finally it happened. I managed to drop my phone out the window.
It's the second time I've done it with a phone. The first was my HTC Sensation, which also took the plunge from the same height onto concrete and amazingly, was fine. Well...this time was the HOX.
Like many do, I was playing with my phone at the window, the sun was out, clouds were minimal and the breeze was gentle...before i knew it, my phone somehow, jumped out of my hands. I stood helplessly as I saw the phone fall out the window in slow motion, slow enough to give me time to think about about jumping after it and also about whether it would be worth it and then coming to the conclusion it wouldn't, regardless of how much i need my phone. As i stood there in shock, I saw the phone fall to it's death, hitting the concrete hard on a corner which then put it into a death spin of what would inevitably end the phone's life if the fall hadn't already.
Once the phone came to rest, I grabbed my keys and took a slow walk down the stairs, there was no rush as i was sure my phone was now a paperweight.
I saw the phone, face down, picked it up, turned it on with little hope of it working and BANG!!! it works, wohooo, nothing wrong with the screen or the touch function. A but of a bang on the side but I see that as character building.
so you can all rest assured now, the phone can happily fall from a height of a second floor (3rd floor if you're american)fall.

I'm really surprised about it, there's a big bump on one of the corners, and a small one on another corner but that's it, it even slid on the concrete abour 75cm, face down and there's not a scratch on the screen.
I was thinking about heading the SGS3 route, but might keep this now since it can survive such a fall...i'm sure any other smart phone would've met their demise over much shorter heights of fall. The Iphone4 would definitely not survive such a collision with destiny.
One lucky bast..d
Its all I can say lol!
Just sand it down a bit and it's good as new. You're lucky it dropped on a corner.
I think I would have had a heart attack. Even when I put my HOX on my pocket I put it very slowly so it won´t get scratched against the belt surface or some other protuberance (which happened to once when I had the GS1). I will only rest when my protective case arrives.
You had two phones that tried to kill themselves? Listen to me, buy a case for any other phone you own.
I am utterly impressed, regardless on which side the phone landed on.

wow that's amazing
i bet a bit of special sandpaper may help to disguise the mark on the plastic
I don't think there is many other phones that would survive that fall, another unibody phone might depending on the material used.
Good thing about polycarbonate though is its strength, but then that's why its used for crash helmets.
If he had fallen on the front or the back shell, you would have had to pick it up with a little spoon. So you should consider your self very lucky.
Luck of the draw.
I've seen experiments on why toast always lands butter side down on the floor. Essentially, its size and the height of a table will do that. If tables were 3m high, or toast was 10cm across, or 1m across, butter side up.
If your phone hits the deck screen side down, it's toast. Any phone.
Luck of the draw (from pocket) really.

There have been a few posts about the "inner" screen breaking whilst the phone is in a pocket. IE That the screen is somehow deficient.
Did your screen crack in a way that you think isn't your fault?
Check in here.
I'm thinking this can be a poll type thing, without comments other than the details. There are plenty of other threads discussing the different aspects of this.
I always keep mine in my front jeans pocket and am nervous about this whole thing. Especially if no is going to warranty for this.
Again lets not devolve into a pros and cons. Just the facts please.

Mine cracked
I cracked the LCD under the gorilla glass of my TMo S4 while it was in my pocket with nothing else in my pocket. There were no cracks on the gorilla glass and it was in a protective case. I took it into the TMo store and the lady was nice enough to warranty it for me as long as I agreed she didn't see any cracks (battery was dead). She said however that it is likely they will charge me $150 after they discover the damage, which could take a couple months. That option sounded better than buying another S4 outright and it was cheaper than the $175 deductible for insurance.
So I would say, be very careful not to apply pressure to the screen. It would appear to me that they've slimmed down the phone at the sacrifice of pressure resistance, especially since my S2 is still kicking and sat a couple years in my pocket.
Cheers!

Right here with you. I posted a thread about this a while back. mine developed a hairline crack in less than 2 weeks. I still don't know how it happened, as my phone was never dropped either.
Mine has what looks like a (curved) line that goes from upper right corner to the bottom left one. But the glass is smooth and you don't feel any scratch from outside. I m pretty sure I bought it like that as I saw it during my 1st inspection of the phone (few days after purchase)
Is it cracked/scratched from inside and should I ask for replacement ? (I still have 2 days to return the phone)
Hi there,
I've just received my smartwatch 3 and love it, however I've noticed there's a ridge at the top of the screen that I can feel if swiping down the screen. Swiping up it feels smooth at the bottom of the screen. It's almost as if the top of the screen needs to be recessed a bit more.
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks in advance!
I do not experience this myself. Sounds like a manufacturing defect for sure.

I actually don't mind it has stop the glass from scraping on thing a couple times.
I think it is because we pull the top band down and connect it to the lower band.
Talking of which, I actually do not like the band. It is a cross between a metal and leather band. In that a. it isn't metal and b. it connects like a metal band, and if you catch it on your trousers/shorts/pockets/other it opens. It is one of the reasons I prefer leather/regular bands. Now, if they had a cover over the mechanism, that would make a world of difference.
It's definitely a defect, I took mine into an affiliate Sony store and they agreed that it was no longer how it should be.
Unfortunately as I didn't buy it there they wanted to charge me to send it back to Sony so I didn't bother.
Screen moving in and out the case at push/hard touch
I have just bought mine and besides the disappointment that AW isn't even close to what I could do with the SW2 I realized that when I touch harder or slightly push the screen at the top (10:30 and 1:30) it goes in almost 1 mm, at the lower end (6 o'clock) a little less. I have tested it in water at the sink jet and so far so good, but I'm still thinking if I should return it because it could affect some of it's properties (IP68).
Could you please take a look at yours and let me know if your screen also moves in the case at heavier touch/push?
PS: mine also has the ridge at the top and a little at 3 and 9 o'clock
No movement on my screen, send it back. My first one had a broken strap out of the box but the replacement has been rock solid
Yes there is movement in the top left corner, I can also use a suction cup to pull the screen out to where it was but it doesn't stay there.
return with no exchange
hi,
I have returned my SW3 to the shop, they had another one there (with which they offered me to exchange) I checked it for the same defect, unfortunately that one was even worse: I could see the glue at top left corner and when pressing it at top right corner the screen was bending in the case creating a 2mm gap; not touching the screen, it was a bit higher that the case's edge.
so no smartwatch for now, hope to find a good one soon.
how are your hanging? anyone else bought it from Netherlands?
experiencing same issue, it was totallly smooth, but now the edge is sharper. I assume it affects the waterproof, so lets see what sony will say. (bought it directly from their site as preorder back a few months)
Update: thing got replaced, not the band, just the watch... Seems fine now. However now I have the band slightly damaged on the two right corners, metal is coming through the plastic....
Hi, I d not believe.... Sony has really hard issue with his watch
yet with the SW2 the screen go out from the frame
I send it back at Sony repair but the new one has same issue
