I can't disable the green LED notification flash for new emails. I went under Settings > Display > Notification Flash and unchecked for Email. I even unchecked for all options and still can't get the darn thing to stop flashing on new emails. I tested for alarm and the enable/disable works for that. I use Gmail.
If I disable Email notifications from within Gmail (Menu > More > Settings > uncheck Email notifications) then LED notifications stops also...but I need the email notification on or I won't know theres a new email...but the flash is annoying and drains battery.
Gmail is its own program. The "Email" setting probably refers to the "Mail" program.
As for the battery usage of a tiny surface mount LED, that thing could probably blink for years before it would run out of battery. Do you have any idea how little power a tiny, intermittently flashing LED uses? The normal self discharge of the lithium battery will be greater than the draw of that LED.
There is no setting within Gmail to disable this... It's still annoying in my opinion even if it doesn't drain the battery.
There has to be a way...

There is a way, quirky as it may be. If you're running stock or most Sense ROMS, from the home screen...
Menu - Settings - Display - Notification Flash - Uncheck whatever you want.

Hmm that does it for me. I remember when I was on CM6 the LED had a mind of its own. Maybe it's something to do with the ROM you're running.

Just notice that my screen isn't turning on when a new e-mail comes in, like it does with new text messages.
I get the sound, but the screen/phone doesn't actually wake up from sleep.
Anyone else experience this? or know a fix?
I have a Tilt2 with stock rom. I added BsB Tweaks...which has a feature for "wake up phone on/off when receiving SMS" it IS turned ON.
...I didn't notice this earlier...so I can't really recall if this was already an issue or is due to installing BsB Tweaks...

Try this setting (I don't have my phone right now, so it might be a little different):
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > New E-Mail or New Message (in the drop-down) > [check the box] Display on Screen.
Good luck.

Yeah I have this on for sure.
When the phone is on with the screen on the Display appears on screen. However if I hit the power button (making the screen black), when I get a new e-mail the screen doesn't light up/turn on...
Just rooted my phone and installed Cyanogenmod 7.0.3. Now for some odd reason, when I lock/turn the screen off on the phone the light around the optical trackpad keeps flashing every 10 seconds or so. I thought it was a signal light telling you that you have reception, but no even when I have zero bars it still flashes. Any suggestions on how I might make it stop flashing?

trackpad flash is for notifications, you may have an email, missed call, sms, mms, poke or tweet waiting to be read.

Your comment sort of traced the issue. I turned off "Pulse notification light" under Sound Settings -> Notifications and that stopped the light from blinking. However I want it to blink if I have something in need of attention, but I don't. I've checked Gmail, Email, K-9 Email, Google+, SMS, and Voicemail and there isn't anything.
It's also weird that the touch keys (home, menu, back, search) are always on when using the phone, I think before they didn't turn on unless I touched them but that's another thing.

Sometimes the light will bug out if you've had a lot of notifications and you've cleared them all at once or quickly. A reboot will fix it.
The touch keys lighting up are usually based on the ambient light sensor, which chooses whether or not its bright enough to warrant lighting up the keys to be easier seen.
Okay this is weird. The blinking stops after 10 minutes. I assume that's the threshold for the normal notification blinky otherwise it'll continue blinking if you don't check whatever was unread. For some reason its as if it thinks there is something unread everytime I unlock the phone and then lock it.

Hey there,
I'm having the same issue but never really tracked it down because I didn't care too much. But after reading this thread, I gave it another shot. Pulling down the status bar, it was the AlarmDroid-Entry (categorized as "Notifications", not as "Ongoing") that struck my eye. The way AlarmDroid (by default, see below) tells you about an active alarm is that it kind of posts a non-removable notification. I'd guess it keeps reposting it every few miliseconds via a service or something.
Turning the active alarms off does indeed eliminate the trackpad-flashing in my case, so I think this is more of an AlarmDroid and possibly other apps using similar status notifications issue than actually a cyanogenmod one.
Edit: just in case anyone reads this and wonders: AlarmDroid actually gives you the option to disable the notification behavior either by disabling the status symbol altogether or by putting it in the right side part of the status bar. See "General Preferences" -> "Display Settings" -> "Status bar symbol" for possible configurations.
Best Regards,
alturiak
Thanks for the reply ... I fixed it by installing Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1. It was weird, I knew it was the ROM when I installed MIUI and then back to Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 and the flashing started happening again.
Also I don't use Alarm Droid ... either way, thanks for the reply.
I've been running the latest CM7 nightlies for a while now and starting about a week ago, the vibrate function stopped working when I received text messages. I use Chomp SMS and I've changed the settings in there, in the standard messaging app, and in the general sounds category in settings. The phone still vibrates for everything else - games, alarms, phone calls, etc.
Any ideas? I'd rather not have to do a full reset.

Did you change the notification settings in the stock messaging app?
Messaging > menu > settings > notification settings > vibrate > "vibrate always"
Yes I did that. Any other ideas?

Shot in the dark, are you using the notifications drop-down power widgets? I had an issue a while back that when I used those to adjust the volume/vib/silent toggle, it would turn off vibrate in the global settings when moving back and forth between "vibrate" and "all sounds on".
Just make sure that your global settings are correct and then dont change anything then test the notification with an incoming SMS.
Other than that I'm out of ideas.
I tried changing the global settings again and in the process realized that it vibrates now when the phone is set to "silent" mode, but when I turn on the volume again the vibrate goes away. I set every single notification setting I could find to vibrate always so this is super confusing.

Try setting up a notification power widget. And under 'widget buttons' scroll all the way down to 'sound modes' and select one of the options where the first one is "sound+vibrate". Toggle to this mode from the notification pull-down and see if that toggles it. (I personally use 'Sound+Vib/Vib/Silent').
I found that the stock settings and CMsettings often mess eachother up.
I ended up flashing back to a backup from 2 weeks ago - it was worth the time because the vibrate settings are completely back to normal. Thanks for the help, though, I'll keep it in mind for future reference in case this happens again.
So I can't stand this 9 second wait in between blinks so I installed xposed framework and the LED control module.
I cannot get this working correctly? Anybody have this working successfully?
If enable per say the messaging one. When I get a message it does not work. If I turn the screen on, then back off, it will work...but obviously that isn't right.
Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks everyone!

Well I finally figured it out. In the phones standard notification settings, every option needs to be checked. I had unchecked incoming calls and downloaded apps. So once I checked every option in there it is now working! Yay! Not sure why but that fixed it
Are you running the standard version only or unlocked version?
I could only get the messaging app to correctly show LED notification, i couldn't get the phone app to display LED for missed call. Could you?

Yep all checked, still can't get missed call LED to work, it always blinks in the default way :/ Im using stock phone dialer.
Is anyone using Light Flow with the LG G4 to control the LED? If you are can you please list the step to get it working the way you want it.
Turn off all the led options in the phones settings except the bottom "downloaded apps" option.

It's the only way to get it to work. I had many emails with the dev in the last 24hours and you need to uncheck all options BUT "downloaded apps" in the stock notifications setting and it will work.
The other issue is that you might not be able to select "always on" as an option for the LED flash rate and actually have it stay on. So, instead, you have to set a custom time with say something like 50000,10 and then the LED will stop blinking. I have 2 notifications - charging and charged - when plugged in the LED would blink rapidly the colors I set no matter what I selected for LED flash rate time. Setting the custom length resolved that.

battery charging always on LED was blinking for me, so I set it to custom blink, and then something like 99999999,0

Excellent, I'm glad it did.
I have it working very well now after toying with a lot of settings and doing a lot testing & debugging/logging with the dev.
What we did find out through the tests is that - at least on the USA version with Verizon - it will not notify you if you have a Voice Mail or Visual Voice Mail (I use) and that it turns out, LG made it's own "voice mail" app - whereas in the past Verizon had their own voice mail or visual voice mail app. So, his next release addresses this new LG Voice Mail specific app because the 2 we have on the Verizon phone ( "Voice Mail" and "Voicemail Notification Monitoring") will not trigger a Lightflow notification as they are new LG specific app.

Do you figured out with the DEV how to make the light steady specially when the phone is charging instead of setting a crazy custom value?

No. We did not try to address that further given the custom number value solves that - which is why that function even exists. So, I - and I am sure he - looks at that as a low priority issue as that method works. However, once the VM/VVM issue gets resolved, I will ask him if there is a way to see how to get that working so no custom value is needed and so "always on" does it's job of being "always on".
