Just notice that my screen isn't turning on when a new e-mail comes in, like it does with new text messages.
I get the sound, but the screen/phone doesn't actually wake up from sleep.
Anyone else experience this? or know a fix?
I have a Tilt2 with stock rom. I added BsB Tweaks...which has a feature for "wake up phone on/off when receiving SMS" it IS turned ON.
...I didn't notice this earlier...so I can't really recall if this was already an issue or is due to installing BsB Tweaks...

Try this setting (I don't have my phone right now, so it might be a little different):
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > New E-Mail or New Message (in the drop-down) > [check the box] Display on Screen.
Good luck.

Yeah I have this on for sure.
When the phone is on with the screen on the Display appears on screen. However if I hit the power button (making the screen black), when I get a new e-mail the screen doesn't light up/turn on...

Hi,
When I receive a new E-Mail via Active Sync, I can hear the message sound but display doesn't turn on and no notification is showed.
How I can solve it?
Regards,
Taguapire
check your settings its probably set not to display on the today screen pretty easy
does anyone know how to do this for when you send a text message. you hear a sound but no display notification. thanks
If you're referring to the setting for new emails at Start > Settings > Sounds and Notifications > Notifications, there is nothing there that would affect what I believe the OP is referring to.
I take that back. You can check a box to have a message shown on the display, but not to turn on the display.
I'm running Black Satin, as well, and when I receive an email, I get the sound notification, the status LED notification, and the message on the display, but it will not wake the device up out of standby and turn on the display. I'm not complaining, however, because this is the behavior I desire.
To contrast this, the receipt of a text message will do all of the above, and also wake up the phone and turn on the display. This often results in buttons pushed and programs launched as I take the phone out of my pocket.
I have seen nowhere to control that aspect of notifications.

I can't disable the green LED notification flash for new emails. I went under Settings > Display > Notification Flash and unchecked for Email. I even unchecked for all options and still can't get the darn thing to stop flashing on new emails. I tested for alarm and the enable/disable works for that. I use Gmail.
If I disable Email notifications from within Gmail (Menu > More > Settings > uncheck Email notifications) then LED notifications stops also...but I need the email notification on or I won't know theres a new email...but the flash is annoying and drains battery.
Gmail is its own program. The "Email" setting probably refers to the "Mail" program.
As for the battery usage of a tiny surface mount LED, that thing could probably blink for years before it would run out of battery. Do you have any idea how little power a tiny, intermittently flashing LED uses? The normal self discharge of the lithium battery will be greater than the draw of that LED.
There is no setting within Gmail to disable this... It's still annoying in my opinion even if it doesn't drain the battery.
There has to be a way...

There is a way, quirky as it may be. If you're running stock or most Sense ROMS, from the home screen...
Menu - Settings - Display - Notification Flash - Uncheck whatever you want.

Hmm that does it for me. I remember when I was on CM6 the LED had a mind of its own. Maybe it's something to do with the ROM you're running.

I'm using the latest Fresh. Are you using the gmail app or the standard mail?
I've been running the latest CM7 nightlies for a while now and starting about a week ago, the vibrate function stopped working when I received text messages. I use Chomp SMS and I've changed the settings in there, in the standard messaging app, and in the general sounds category in settings. The phone still vibrates for everything else - games, alarms, phone calls, etc.
Any ideas? I'd rather not have to do a full reset.

Did you change the notification settings in the stock messaging app?
Messaging > menu > settings > notification settings > vibrate > "vibrate always"
Yes I did that. Any other ideas?

Shot in the dark, are you using the notifications drop-down power widgets? I had an issue a while back that when I used those to adjust the volume/vib/silent toggle, it would turn off vibrate in the global settings when moving back and forth between "vibrate" and "all sounds on".
Just make sure that your global settings are correct and then dont change anything then test the notification with an incoming SMS.
Other than that I'm out of ideas.
I tried changing the global settings again and in the process realized that it vibrates now when the phone is set to "silent" mode, but when I turn on the volume again the vibrate goes away. I set every single notification setting I could find to vibrate always so this is super confusing.

Try setting up a notification power widget. And under 'widget buttons' scroll all the way down to 'sound modes' and select one of the options where the first one is "sound+vibrate". Toggle to this mode from the notification pull-down and see if that toggles it. (I personally use 'Sound+Vib/Vib/Silent').
I found that the stock settings and CMsettings often mess eachother up.
I ended up flashing back to a backup from 2 weeks ago - it was worth the time because the vibrate settings are completely back to normal. Thanks for the help, though, I'll keep it in mind for future reference in case this happens again.
hey guys i got a question... to see if this happens to your s4 ... when i pick it up and its lock it vibrates on the bottom..and its not because of notifications ..its weird...anyone else having this issue or other issues?
Mine does this too... no idea why but I was wondering as well.
That would certainly be annoying. Have you guys checked to see if turning off Motion in settings helps?
It's 'Smart alert', part of the motion settings. It vibrates quickly when you pick it up if you have a notification.
Settings > My Device > Motion > Smart alert
Once you're used to it it's kinda nice.
what they said - its like the notification led - just a quick jolt to let you know there are things you havent seen - there is an option to activate/deactivate in the settings pages.
Hi there
Sometimes when I receive an email the notification will not show up on the phone, that is no sound and no led notification.
However as soon as I press the power button or unlock the screen the notification will pop up.
It is almost as if the device goes to sleep state when screen is turned off.
The emails that I miss at times due to this problem are time sensitive and really important for my work.
Such delays are at times resulting in direct monetary loss.
This was never an issue on my Galaxy Note 3 from which I have upgraded.
Can anyone of you guide and assist me as to which settings need to be changed to get it to work properly.
Many thanks for your time.
I have a simmilar issue here. Some notifications show up normally, like mail and facebook, but other apps only show notifications if i have they are opened.
It's like the system is forcing close those apps.

Still haven't found any solution.
Things I have tried :
1. Going to Power Master > Battery Mode > Balance
Thinking that in other modes it would kill background apps to save power.
2. Went to Power Master > Autostart Manager > Added apps I need notifications to start on system startup.
Apart from the mentioned problem, I see another one.
I opened What's app notification setting and turned Group Notifications off and Message notifications are set to show silently and minimize.
However the app itself changes the setting and forces messages on screen by itself over riding my changes. Have been happening since a long time now no matter how many times I change the settings.
Update if you can find any resolution.
