Just rooted my phone and installed Cyanogenmod 7.0.3. Now for some odd reason, when I lock/turn the screen off on the phone the light around the optical trackpad keeps flashing every 10 seconds or so. I thought it was a signal light telling you that you have reception, but no even when I have zero bars it still flashes. Any suggestions on how I might make it stop flashing?

trackpad flash is for notifications, you may have an email, missed call, sms, mms, poke or tweet waiting to be read.

Your comment sort of traced the issue. I turned off "Pulse notification light" under Sound Settings -> Notifications and that stopped the light from blinking. However I want it to blink if I have something in need of attention, but I don't. I've checked Gmail, Email, K-9 Email, Google+, SMS, and Voicemail and there isn't anything.
It's also weird that the touch keys (home, menu, back, search) are always on when using the phone, I think before they didn't turn on unless I touched them but that's another thing.

Sometimes the light will bug out if you've had a lot of notifications and you've cleared them all at once or quickly. A reboot will fix it.
The touch keys lighting up are usually based on the ambient light sensor, which chooses whether or not its bright enough to warrant lighting up the keys to be easier seen.
Okay this is weird. The blinking stops after 10 minutes. I assume that's the threshold for the normal notification blinky otherwise it'll continue blinking if you don't check whatever was unread. For some reason its as if it thinks there is something unread everytime I unlock the phone and then lock it.

Hey there,
I'm having the same issue but never really tracked it down because I didn't care too much. But after reading this thread, I gave it another shot. Pulling down the status bar, it was the AlarmDroid-Entry (categorized as "Notifications", not as "Ongoing") that struck my eye. The way AlarmDroid (by default, see below) tells you about an active alarm is that it kind of posts a non-removable notification. I'd guess it keeps reposting it every few miliseconds via a service or something.
Turning the active alarms off does indeed eliminate the trackpad-flashing in my case, so I think this is more of an AlarmDroid and possibly other apps using similar status notifications issue than actually a cyanogenmod one.
Edit: just in case anyone reads this and wonders: AlarmDroid actually gives you the option to disable the notification behavior either by disabling the status symbol altogether or by putting it in the right side part of the status bar. See "General Preferences" -> "Display Settings" -> "Status bar symbol" for possible configurations.
Best Regards,
alturiak
Thanks for the reply ... I fixed it by installing Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1. It was weird, I knew it was the ROM when I installed MIUI and then back to Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 and the flashing started happening again.
Also I don't use Alarm Droid ... either way, thanks for the reply.

On the Stock ATT Tilt 2 ROM, I don't see a green blinking light on the top left that indicates that the radio is on (like on the energy ROM), Is this normal and is there a way to enable it?

1) Yes.
2) Don't know.
It's not a ROM thing, it's a TP2 thing -- no flashing green light (for radio). I've tried roms from 6 different cooks and none of them produce a flashing green light when cell-signal-on. There is a flashing green light as an alert/notification, however (e.g., new message, voice mail, etc.).
I don't know if there's a way to enable flashing-when-cell-signal.

Can that be enabled on the stock AT&T ROM? I see the option for it in the notifications screen (e.g. "flash light for xx minutes") for various events like missed calls, new VM, etc., but it's grayed out. I can't turn it on. I've never seen the lights do anything except for charge status when plugged in.

Is the "flash light for" selection grayed out for all Events on the ATT ROM?
Some custom ROMs -- and the new stock Euro WM6.5 ROM -- have the selection grayed out for some of the events...seems to be a bug, 'cause there's no good reason for it to be that way.

Yes, I just quickly scanned through all of them.
Hmmm, I guess I'll have to revise that... this post said it does blink for new messages, so I just sent myself a txt, and indeed, my left light is blinking. But the option is grayed out, so I don't know how long it will blink. Guess I'll leave it unread for a bit.
EDIT: well, that didn't last long. I guess it defaults to "blink light for 5 minutes". No wonder I never noticed it before. If I'm far enough away from the phone that I don't notice a new message, there's a decent chance I won't be close enough to it again to notice a blinking light within 5 minutes. Kind of useless.
So the feature works, it's just that for some reason we can't edit the time value, because it's grayed out. Surely it's just a registry setting?
Have a look HERE. Some of the info may help.
I've read some people saying they have had really bad problems with Lightflow that affect things like booting their device while others have said they have had no problems at all with it. What is your experience with it?
The options for LED control sound awesome, but I'd prefer not to screw up my week-old GN if I can help it.
In my experience, it works flawlessly
I've never had any problems. I definitely suggest giving it a try. I'm sure you'll love it.
The only problem that I have is when I dismiss an notification, the light doesn't go off. It keeps blinking.
Eg. Facebook notifications. I swipe them in my status bar to remove them, but as soon as I lock my screen, the notification LED glows blue. It happens sometimes even if I read the message or notification in the app.

Now that you mention it, when I received an email through the Hotmail application the light would not go away unless I opened the app. That's the only flaw I've found.
The only issue I have is that you have to open the app for the notification to get rid of the blinking light. Everything else works fine for me.

Iirc, it happens that way because lightflow monitors the apps, not the system notification. Like the description says, if the app isnt in the lightflow monitoring list, you wont get an led light for it.

There's a couple o' spots in settings, one in general, and one for the specific app notification that should look after that.
i. e. Clear the light after opening status/notification bar.
@1LifeInAnalog on Twitter
I used to have it and had no problems at all. Worst case you can always just delete the app.
I rooted my phone and downloaded a custom rom and now don't need light flow anymore since the rom has custom notif. light set up.
Never had problems, I set it to dismiss notification with screen on so I don't have to open that certain app
I've had extreme display glitches. Upon boot my screen would flash a green/pink burst of static, and post light flow I haven't a single issue.
Try Liquidsmooth, the integrated led has all of the same features.

Is there an app that will show me a list or log of apps that have triggered the home button notification light? Also, is there a list of what colors/flash patterns belong to which types of notifications? Rooting is not an option until my one year warranty is up and that's several months away.
Sometimes when I get a notification I'll go see what it is and clear it. The home button light stops flashing but then when Iput my phone to sleep the notification light will start blinking again. When I wake it up there's nothing in notifications and the home button stops blinking again but then it starts again when it goes to sleep. I've tried disabling different apps and have found what some of the notifications are but not all of them.
My wife and I use ICQ to chat since we've been on it so long and sometimes the phone tells me there's a new message when there's not. ICQ does a fast red flash on the home button so when I see it I have to open ICQ again and go to the chat a second time then back out all the way to clear it. That's not too bad because it's got a unique color and flash pattern so I know what it is.
Sometimes it's a blue light with a slower flash rate. I think that's for email but not sure since it's probably used by more than one app.
The one I can't figure out is a slow green flash. I've tried everything I can think of including force-closing every app and nothing makes it go away. Even rebooting doesn't fix it. It makes it impossible to tell if I actually have a notification unless the notification has a different color and flash pattern.
If there's an app or a way to see a notification history it would help me figure out why it's doing this.

Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull down notifications. The colors are usually set by each app in their respective notification settings. There's apps on the play store that can also help set colors but I think you need root. It's not hard to root and unroot though just don't unlock the bootloader.

Yeah, that's what I explained in my post. When I unlock my phone the home button LED turns off and when I swipe down to see notifications there are none, but as soon as I lock my phone it starts blinking again.
I just went through most of my apps and most have no options at all for the notify light. The only one that does is Facebook but the only option is for on/off and no option for the color. ICQ, GMail, and Outlook.com only lets me choose sound and vibrate. I don't think I've ever seen an app with options to select the color of the home button LED.
Hey everyone. I'm coming from phones that haven't had always on displays so I didn't really think it was necessary but now that I've turned it off I noticed that when I get notifications the LED doesn't work for anything except my work e-mail through the outlook app. No gmail, allo, hangouts etc. I've also turned off edge notification and tried toggling the LED notifications, rebooting and a bunch of other stuff. Am I missing something simple? It seems like I should be able to get an LED notification for everything even if they are the same color.
Edit: whoops i totally meant to post this in the questions forum.. if the mods could move it that would be great >_<
I've got the same issue, I can't find settings to adjust led

You have to do it in the app settings by going to settings/app/ pick your app then go in notifications /notifications /importance and change it to urgent.

Sorry! Working here
Mine is working, but I noticed that there seems to be a timeout on the LED. So if I don't clear the notification or look at the message or email then LED will stop flashing ( approx 30 minutes). During that time I have opened the home screen and dragged down notifications view from the status bar, but as I said I have not cleared or viewed emails or messages
Well, i'm happy it's working for you but in my case it seems gmail app don't accept led notification at all.

Yes you are right , just tested and sent an email to my gmail account and the LED does not flash although I get a lockscreen notification . However I also use the samsung mail app to get gmail and when that synchronises with gmail, then the LED will flash.
I had a look at the settings in the gmail account , but can't see anything obvious

Yes, Samsung email app is working but take's so much time to synchronise, i hope Google will found a fix soon because Gmail app seems to have this problem with Oreo because not only Samsung phones have that issue!
I use an app called Light Flow, it allows you to set notification colours for various apps, e.g. Blue for Facebook, Green for Whatsapp. I absolutely love it, can see what notification you have just by the flashing colour
Just got S9 two days ago .
Can the Lightflow App enable the LED to flash notifications while screen is ON ...
BUT Always On Display is off. ?
I was also wondering the Lightflow App says it needs control over notifications and messages calendars etc. Is it reliable enough to not miss an appointment ?
So I was annoyed not having an LED notification light on oneplus 6t so I tried to make one of my own.
As OP6T has amoled display whenever a desired notification comes the app brings in a black screen with notification LED looking animation.
Though this is tested on OP6T, it should be working for most Android Oreo and later phones.
If not working for your phone, I'll suggest you to send me logs at [email protected]
To use it:
Install App.
Disable any battery optimisation for the app.
Give notification access permission.
Give full screen permission(if any required for your phone)
Select apps you want notifications for, by choosing a color (Only apps you set a color to enables LEDs).
Note: On successfully selecting a color for an app the text in which the App name is written should change to that color
Thats it.
For MIUI 11 devices make sure that AutoStart is enabled in App Info. Also check "Show on lock screen" permission in other settings.
Settings image: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1yxrLd5u7kLSGBwviKhXYqM21YLC8Dhiv
Note: To turn off the LED and to unlock phone double tap anywhere on the screen or use power button.
App now available on Play Store, please rate and share if you liked the app.

@HarshBoy99 Hello! Thank you for the job you''re doing, but if you don't mind, i would like to point some important things.
You'r app uses a black overlay with a colorized dot in the corner, it's cool but there is a but. If The device is in a pocket, and you're using a pocket detection, the screen will turn on and show the pocket detection screen - what kinda annoying issue.
Another moment, again - becauses there is a use of black overlay, when there is already a notification panding and you recieve anothere on, there is a head-up notification with the all status bar info that shows up, again - kinda annoying.
As a recommandation - trigger the built-in AOD app instead of using a black overlay, that will fix the issues i've mentioned above + there will be an option to use fingerprint scanner on notifications.
Wish you the best!

Well I have included pocket detection in app, i.e if the LED is on and the sensor is covered the activity will be stopped. But if you have pocket mode on, it will show you the pocket mode screen for a brief moment and then switch off the display. This will help save battery if phone is in your pocket.
Yeah on that heads-up notification, I haven't found a way to get rid of this but it is only an issue of few seconds.
There are already many apps that bring on the default AOD display but it doesn't feel like an actual LED and moreover we can't change the appearance of AOD as it is a system app.
Thank You!
I wish there is an more option for WhatsApp. I do not want to receive LED from the Watsp group
Thanks

I have been using the app for some days now. I have also locked the app in recents to avoid it being killed or stop functioning. But when I get a notification, double tapping doesn't work instantly. Have to tap 4 times at least. Also, on unlocking the phone, I am in the Notify Buddy app instead.
App is great if you don't mind me offering suggestions I have a couple.
The light to move around in intervals across the top of the screen or even the two corners just to prevent possible burn in, say if you get a notification in the middle of the night or something and it blinks for hours on end (I know the chances are slim, but better to be safe than sorry)
Possibly an option to cycle the notification light if you have multiple notifications, so if I have a sms text and a messenger text it would blink once for the sms and once for messenger and cycle between them so I know I have 2 notifications.
An interval setting maybe how fast or slow for it to pulse or to keep it static. (If you choose to make it static warn it could possibly cause burn in)
If it's possible a way to keep the overlay active unless the notification is gone, I tested the app sending myself an sms text just to make sure everything was working I left the notification and the overlay didn't go back to the LED the screen just stayed black. If I'm not mistaken an actual notification light would stay active until the notification for said app was cleared.
That's all I really have for suggestions, I appreciate what you're doing with this app it's honestly the best alternative to any of the apps attempting to replicate a notification LED. I don't want you to think I don't like the app I'm just thinking of how my old phones with notification LED's behaved with notifications. Again thank you for your work and I hope my suggestions were something that could be of use.
Other then waking the phone this app is bloody great ?

Well this was exactly how I wanted for my app to function, but while testing it myself I observed that I had pending notification almost always and it would drain the battery exponentially. Therefore I went with notifying the user only while he is away from phone.
