Hey my contacts are listed last name 1st and i have no idea how to change the set-up so that i can have contacts that are first name first. On the cingualr 8125. It's horable for organization since its a sync and i only know the people by 1st name.
now this is where it gets tricky.. i dont know if there is a way to change them all at one time... but i do know you can open outlook, go to your contacts and open them one by one and choose the File As selection and change them...
after you do all of that you may want to go to outlook, then go to tools, options, and on the preferences tab click on the Contact options and choose the default choice for future add's. Unfortunately this does not change them all in there currently, i tried.
oh these are also in Outlook 2k3, not sure about earlier versions

Is it me or is everybody's Desire sorting contacts by their first name? I can't find a setting to change this behaviour.
Depends on how you save your contacts names
You can make your Desire show with last name first.

sorry if this has already been answered somehow, but how in the name of the Lord is this possible? Why is it that the Samsung phone application does not search in my address book also the LAST name of my contacts, but only the FIRST name?!?
I really fon't get it, why is it so difficult to make the search look in the LAST name field as well. It already checks the FIRST name, as well as the phone numbers fields, so why not the LAST name as well?
Can anyone answer to me, eventually give me a solution as well? And I mean not suggestions to use 1dial etc. I know about those ones..
Sorry if I missed something, don't start to throw rocks at me, I'm just very frustrated.

dont know if I understand what you want, but you can change the display settings in your Contacts (Menu > More > Settings > Order of display name and change to Last Name First Name), and then you can T9 search based on last name and phone number.

thanks a lot, this is what i meant. funny thing is that, in my case, even if i select order by last name, in the Phone application it still does not select persons from contacts based on last name field.
but anyway I wanted to be able to do the search based on all these fields, just like the HTC dialer, if you know. i guess that is not possible after all...

I'm on JM1, and the last name search works just fine on my phone. Maybe you just have to wait a while for the phone to index the contact list.

im on JPK and it is not working, but even if it had been working, would still not have been sattisfied. I would like smth similar to HTC dialer. I don't see why would Samsung create such a stupid way of searching in Contacts list.
Not to mention that it would be useful to search in last dialed list as well, just in case you have dialed a number, not saved it and need it later and you only remember it started with 0722xxx, for example. HTC dialer had that as well.
Try StarContact, t9 search with nice large buttons, searches first and last name, can even search company name. I use it all the time, but especially when I can't remember someone's name but can remember who they work for.

only the t9 search is there fine. but the rest of app is not really my taste ..
so, maybe on AOSP they can impelment that on phone app.
Hi all, i have flashed the revolution rom 4 and have the following question
I use a lot the people widget. All my contacts are google contacts and are automatically syncronised.
When i set a default action for a certain contact (any contact), after the next automatic sync the action is gone and i have to reset it again.
I have different groups in contacts which are linked to people widget, therefore suggesting to move the needed contacts to favourite group or starred in androir will no do.

I have exactly the same issue on my HTC Desire S (S-OFF'ed, rooted and with the official HTC ROM for Europe (1.47.401.4)).
It is very weird because some of my contacts have the default action setting permanently set.
Maybe I have set their default action when I had my old (Orange) ROM and since the ROM change there is no effect at all ? I precise that the reset occurs only when there is a sync (auto or manual) of Google Contacts...
Kyrillos , have you installed a custom ROM like me ?
Do someone know a way to fix this annoying issue or have/had the same issue with other conditions (no ROM change?) ?

Alright ! I found the solution after changing my keywords in searches (it is sometimes difficult for a non-english to find correct keyword to describe an issue ).

I've a problem that under certain aspect is idiot but I need to sort my contacts under Surname order.
On other devices, I've found the solution, under the contacts options, there where the possibility to change it.
On Experia ArcS no!
Someone else has find a solution or know something to solve it?

*ADDENDUM*
I've found Komodo Contact Manager that give me the possibility to change the sort order BUT not the display.
Infact, the contact list is diplayed as Name, Surname and not like I'm trying to do: Surname, Name.
