[Q] app launcher on event? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an app that can be programmed to launch an app on certain events. For instance, I would like to launch slacker when connected to a specific Bluetooth device?

Tasker can do that, among many other things.

Looking for an app or widget that ...

allows me to kill a selected list of apps/services with a single click. I'm currently on CM 10.1 preview and enjoy the hold back to kill app function. I wish this was on a Sammy rom. I read all these messages about us not needing to manage apps but the truth is too many apps leave behind services without giving you the option to turn them off. Dice with Buddies has a "push" service. ChompSMS has a "billing" service. Scramble with Friends has a push service. Red Laser has 2 services and the latest facebook setup 5(!) services.
If I could put an app or widget on my home screen that allowed me to specify a set of apps then when I'm done with one of those apps I could just hit my home button and then tap that app icon to have it kill any of those apps/services that might be running.
You guys know of any such thing?

Request - Shortcut to disable and enable google maps

So here's the issue. Google maps is great and useful, but even when you're not using it, it's running in the background and hogging up ram. Now, before you give me the old "android uses ram in a different way" speech, it's pretty obvious that maps doesn't take long to reopen even if it's been cleared from the ram. So it'd be better to have that ram freed up for multitasking purposes.
Also, constantly running in the background means it's draining some battery too.
The solution to this would be to disable maps when not using it and then reenable it when required. However, this takes time.
So, I was wondering if anyone could make a shortcut/app which let's us disable and enable the maps app with just the press of a button.
Freeze it using titanium back up

I have a list of apps I freeze n unfreeze regularly - like easy ums or paragon ntfs - I have the unfreez all widget to aim in quick access - but if you spent the time to make a filter in titianium your could have it unfreeze a particular app
Just go application manager > all > disable it, I'd saw uninstalled update then uninstall it and disable
Else, use titanium backup freeze it, don't be lazy keep on asking developer to do such thing

Titanium has a widget that lets you disable and enable a specific app. No need for a different app.
Tasker? It does wonders.
For me, it makes a new application called (New Maps) that unfreezes google maps, waits until it is unfrozen, launches it.
If maps has been inactive for the past XX minutes, it will automatically freeze it. (also set to be frozen on boot)
After this thread I found the TiBu action widget that will cycle through Freeze/Unfreeze&Open.
Pretty handy! Use it now for Facebook and Maps.

Am a fanatic tasker user myself, but never spend time on the 'new' app factory.
Would you care to share these profiles/scenes, waste of time to reinvent the wheel twice

2 profiles two tasks
Export new maps as an app and use it whenever you want to launch maps from a frozen state.
Set your own athome variable or modify it if you don't need two different timeout settings

Ok, after analyzing BBS past few nights I've determined even when you freeze something in TiBu, it doesn't actually remove the alarm wakeups from Alarm Manager. You need to do a restart to clear after freeze to truly remove its footprint.
Restart is rather annoying, anybody have any other thoughts on how to better accomplish the freeze process?

Change SMS, Dialer, and a few other defaults.

Turns out the reason some of the settings couldn't be cleared, is that they were never set. Using an app called Default manager Lite from the Play Store, I was able to set defaults for SMS, the Dialer (though as with all second dialers, the built in will execute on the actual call), Google Calendar, and a few other items of interest. Using the Google Messenger SMS app is working good so far. I just figured this out, so your mileage may vary wildly.

Can it be used to change the default voice control manager (i.e. Google Now Voice vs. Fire Phone Voice Control). I'd like my headset to use Google Now for voice controls.

App required for HTC

Dear all,
Does anyone have come across an App which disables user to Open another app like Whatsapp or Facebook during a specified time limit. for ex. Disabling the app from 9AM to 6PM.
dont know iif that exist. How about app that locks apps with pin?

Hotspot toggle?

So, I've been through all the apps on play, and tried various hacks, tried tasker and some plugins, etc... the closest I've come is automating (recording) toggling the setting via tasker, but it breaks when exported as an app.
Also have created a widget in Nova Launcher that gets me there quicker, so then I can manually toggle the state, but would much rather just have a quick toggle...
Anyone?
