my wife evo won't come on. not sure what to do - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok guys i'm lost, my wife evo rooted w/ s-off, its been rebooting alot today. she's on baked snacks 1.8. I just moved her files to the sdcard and uninstalled the hack adobe player for hulu and put the original on. I then rebooted the phone and now it shows the HTC EVO white screen, it then vibrates quickly 5 times, go to a black screen and w/ a green flash. I then went into recovery and clear the data, reboot but still 5 vibrate and nothing. I tried going into recovery again to do a nandroid, but it doesn't go into there either.

i think that might mean overheat. take out battery and put both under a fan for a while.

lol...she must be pissed....
hope everything works out man...sorry.

lol surprisingly no but I was bracing myself. I see you found my other post. I had to show her that I was doing everything possible to find an answer It's been 7 hrs since this problem happen, I had her fully charge the phone last night and left it unplug (battery was still in) same thing is happening this morning.
I just took the battery out, I will leave it out for awhile, don't think that would do anything, but I will try anything.
Anyone know if this will be covered by the sprint insurance? my concern as well is that the phone has S-Off

This happened to my wife's evo while I was playing angry birds gonna bring it to the store tomorrow.

[Q] Phone Problems

It's a few to list.
1)Light leakage from almost the entire bottom of the phone alligned with the 4keys. The search key also have light leakage.
2)Charging port about to go out. If I'm transfering stuff to my computer or usb tethering it I softly bump my phone it disconnects then reconnect and ask the four usb options. I stopped using my usb and use the external charger.
3)Forced to use Verizon roaming lol my data speeds were always over 1mbps but later went to .2-.56 max even around 3am when data should be tops. Verison i get great speed but don't signal drops a lot.
4) Today my phone randomly shut off on a 80-86% battery no led showed up on when I put the charger in. I tried my OEM battery and my Extended battery and still a no go had to let the phone sit for like 10 minutes then try again. This isn't the first time my phone has done this and I wasn't even using it pick it up to send a text realized it was off.
That's the main prob should I call sprint or asurion. Sprint tries to give me a hard time like when i called in for my blackberry and my first evo that had software issues before I rooted they keep repeating if we don't find something wrong with your phone your going to be charged and would you believe they charged me :-( $100 for a phone that I didn't root and had problems with they did credit me like $50 back after me complaining. That's why I'm kinda trying to make up my mind about sending my phones back. I guess its cause I'm young lol jk but what should I do and I'm tired of that blackberry the phone can be off the charger for 3 hours and die with network off horrible battery they even gave me a new battery and the thing dies faster than me evo before rooting. They keep telling me the same thing over and over check your settings and talking about it might be the battery knowing they just gave me a brand new battery and the freaking phone heats up. What would you do in this case?
Strap a fake bomb to your chest and go into the Sprint store demanding a new phone.

[Q] Black Screen :( Should I brick or unroot? Please help.

OK, So here's my story. I plugged in my charger and I went downstairs. About 3o mins later I came back and the phone was still on, and it was super hot. Im running mexdroid V2fast and i've noticed that its been getting hot every once in awhile during charges and use.
THe phone was working and I rmoved the batt and let it cool down. I turned it on later and it was still working. I saw a movie and put it on silence and after the movie my screen went black. (six hours had past since the charge.)
I've removed batt and restarted the phone numerous times but it still wont work. SO I'm taking it into TMo.
Question, should I unroot the phone so they can replace it and if so, how can I unroot it without my screen working?
Or, should I just update the radio and pull the battery out, mid update? I've read this can cause hboot failure and the phone wont even turn on.
I'd prefer to keep my phone, I don't want a newer phone that isn't rootable. What should I do?
Can you get into recovery at all? You are supposed to to use setcpu for that rom because its overclocked to the max
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA Premium App
I still get the black screen. I do believe I have it but I didn't have it set to be overclocked all the way. I had it at 1170, something around there. I've never clocked this phone over 2k.

Okay. I made my previous statement because the first time I used the mex fast version my battery got crazy hot and freaked me out.
So black screen no matter what? If so how would you be able to see where the update process is in hboot?
Brick it dude lol..
Honestly I have no idea. Bricking it is up to you man
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA Premium App
updating the radio is easy enough without havion to look at the screen. I just have to time it and it's not that hard.
Any other suggestions from other users?
What did you decide to do? I fell on my phone and it still works but the screen is jacked up, blacked out. I'm debating on going through the hassle of unrooting or bricking. Has anyone ever had a problem just sending it in and getting a replacement? What is the worst thing that could happen?

phone shut itself off

the battery was almost dead last night and i plugged it in before i went to bed, when i woke up phone would not respond had to pull the battery to get it to come back on, only thing i did different was use my old blackberry charger and set an alarm , any ideas?
Is this stock rom? Rooted? Are you running Setcpu? Could be sleep of death in SetCpu if you didn't set it right.
its completely stock still, not rooted .the battery didnt fully charge also when it happened.....no set cpu

What are the settings for sleep of death? I am running SetCPU and on two occasions I haven't been able to turn the phone back on. Had to do a battery pull.
Do you have a screen off profile? Sometimes if you set the clock too low during screen off it will cause it to just go into a "sleep of death" at least I've had it happen once or twice before I fixed it.

maybe the usb plug did not connect properly?
because that has happened to me a couple of times already with other phones
Did this only happen while charging?
mine shuts down at any given time, I'm gonna exchange next week.
Just trying to see if a rom fixes it, which at this point doesn't so I guess back to the store.
It sucks because my screen ain't messed up like a lot of folks are saying and yes I did the test.

samsung support on twitter told me this in a direct message "You might need to. Dial 1-888-987-4357, then press 0 for immediate support. ^JB" referring to the random reboots
Yeah it happened when it was plugged in , but then it happened in the middle of a call also so i said frick it and went ahead and rooted it and un-installed all bloat ware ,i was gonna wait till the update but went ahead and rooted it

after I flashed EB, it went a full day without a reboot, then they started again.
Still reboots randomly threw the day. Went back to stock, no difference. Samsung support knows nothing, T-Mobile is more clueless. Can't return to the store anymore (past 14 days) so I guess I need to do a exchange threw T-Mobile. (at least its prob too soon for a refurb)
had the same issue, believe you posted in the thread i made about it, from talking to reps at tmo and a little research this seems to be a problem with the phone its self, getting my replacement tomorrow and will run it stock for awhile to see, and trust me when i had this issue with the first one i tried everything (root, no root, different roms, etc etc)

Yup, same w/ the root, no root, different roms... I got my replacement yesterday, so far no reboots at all. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way, holding onto my original for a few more days.

Bricked?

So yesterday I was going to switch from PA to BeanStalk and ran into some problems, i restored back to PA.
Last night I went and downloaded LiquidSmooth I believe it is, went into recovery *cwm 6.0.2.7.* wiped data, cache, dalvik and formated system.. Installing the zip I ran into a status 7 error. I went to restore my nandroid from earlier in the day, my stable PA setup. No restore files could be found, internal, or external.
At this point I powered my phone off so take my micro sdcard out so I could download a rom through my laptop. While the rom was downloading I decided to go back to recovery to see if there was anything I was doing wrong there..I couldnt get to recovery. I couldnt get into download mode.. Plugging it in to the wall charger I wasnt even getting a charging light. I let it sit overnight on the charger and decided to start on it this morning..
Any button combo I do yields no result.. So I'm fearing this may be a toasted device.. If anyone has insight please let me know.. Much thanks..
plugging my phone into usb cable to laptop, driver goes to install: 'qhsusb_dload no driver found
looking this up in google just re-enforces my suspicions..
yeah dude your phone is now a doorstop. this happened to me once as a noob android "modder" as i was trying to install an rom made for the international version of the gs3 (i9300) onto my north american at&t gs3

Beanstalk 4.3??? Cause team chopsticks are saying there's a bug that can brick a phone maybe. So they suggest everyone wait before building or flashing cm based 4.3 roms.

BeanStalk 4.3 was yesterday morning. I had a hard time getting it to boot back up after wiping cache n dalvik. It was really unresponsive, holding buttons and releasing took forever to yield a result. So there was alot of battery pulling and buttons. I got pissed and just said **** it and left it alone and it booted up, I booted to recovery and switch back the Paranoid Android. There was a small handful of people in the thread all kinda saying the same thing, long delays and unresponsive..
My PA setup was stable, I've had it on for months.. I was in a flash kinda mood so I decided to try a different rom, something not 4.3 based.. So I downloaded the LiquidSmooth rom but it error'd during installing.. I wasnt able to restore, And when I shut it down it just seems I couldnt get it back up to do anything..
It could be a combination of events.. Just a minor bump in the road.. Not the first phone I had brick..
Eh.. Guess I get a new phone..

I got a laugh out of that, but I'm sure its true. With the amount of phones on the market, I'd love to know the percentage they take back in and replace.. It's gotta be astounding.. It's a small thorn in my side for a day and a half, but my phone should be here before noon. I just gotta go and find my rootkit folder and get it all ready
This is the 2nd phone I've wound up bricking. I didnt get my first true smart phone till October 3yrs ago. HTC droid incredible.. that phone was seriously tuffer then nails.. It was dropped so many times, i just stopped caring if it fell cause i knew it would be ok.. Went down a flight of wood steps into my basement during a call and didnt blink.. I wound up melting the back cover to the battery once, my daughters * i have twins* were destroying something and I had torch on looking for something. I wound up putting the phone down on a towel w/ torch on facedown.. I got busy cleaning what they messed up and by the time I remembered my phone I went to get it and it shut down as I picked it up.. It was extremely hot and around the LED you could see a ripple from where it melted. I pulled everything apart, let it cool off for like 10minutes and it booted right back up.. It bricked way later on, I was way more flash happy back then, then I am now. I'm pickier now, back then I was just trying anything..
This sII was bought in October of last year. But it's seen its number or battery pulls and restores.. Tomorrow we will follow up the same..

Yeah we've all bricked a device lol, I had a Samsung galaxy precedent that I beat to sh*t, threw, dropped, whatever n it always booted, still to this day actually lol its sitting in a draw somewhere, my daughter plays games on it lol, but yes honestly the amount of s2s that have been refurbished is astounding my buddy is a tech for T-Mobile which is how I know all this but they hardly ever even send u back the same device when u send for repair, just junk it for a new refurb, wipe and restore the broken one and someone else gets it lol, there tough and almost unbrickable but almost is the key word, how u bricked urs though is strange, I've never had it happen like that before, good luck with the new one and switch to twrp, much better recovery for all the new roms out there

I got this phone under the "free" section of craigslist.(lucky me)
this phone was perfect, no cracked screen, no scratches, just a bump in the side. The only major problem was that this phone was hard bricked.
What I did was that I went to ebay, and found a random seller with decent reviews for JTAG service. The whole thing cost about 40 dollars. (since I got the phone free, I would only lose $40 if this was a scam)
This dude was really nice! I got my GS2 back within a week completely fixed. with stock touchwiz loaded and prerooted alerady
new phone arrived a few hours ago. been running some errands and such.. now to root this one.. tmobile picked the tab up on this one..
so i threw cwm recovery on via odin, flashed my superuser zip. it failed a couple times, 3rd time it took.. booted up and titanium couldnt get access.. in the su update fixer its also failing at "gaining root access"..
any idea's?

Super Unstable

Hey guys, i need some help. Recently I Odin the latest Tar OG1, and used the debloated OG1 stock Rom that is in the Developer Forums. Everything was going well and after a few weeks I started noticing that my phone would start to lag really bad and then just freeze for long periods. I can't do anything while it's frozen and more than often it will restart on it's own. I've wiped everything and restored it using the Tar and even on complete stock it does this. I'm starting to think it has something to do with my actual phone but I don't know how to make sure. I had twrp and even that lags and freezes sometimes. I don't know what I could have done to make this happen, I had xposed installed, and i was running the beastmode kernal as well. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Update: so now my phone just cut and restarted again out fo the blue (I was trying to set an alarm) and my screen went black with fading lines on it, then suddenly it started vibrating nonstop., had to yank the battery. turned it back on and now it just restarts when idle.
One of my Note 4's started lagging real bad, locking up (requiring battery pull), and constantly restarting. Its completely stock, I've read around online that its likely an issue with the onboard eMMC memory on the motherboard dying. Only cure is to replace the motherboard.
I found a work around though, download an app called Wake Lock (or something like that), start it and set to partial wake lock. Phone basically runs like nothing is wrong with it now. Have about 6 months before I can upgrade so hopefully it holds out until then.

No worries, I did lots of reading online and banging my head against the wall when it started acting up. It was really weird, it was acting fine one day, then the next slow, lagging, locking up, and restarting. I tried factory resets, reinstalling old stock ROMs, taking the sd card out. Finally stumbled onto a post in another forum where a guy mentioned that app. Since installing it, as long as I keep it running, phone acts like normal, that's about a month now.

Im not gonna lie, i don't know exactly what it does. Does it drain your battery quick by chance? Mine dripped from 79% to about 40% in the span of an hour. Not sure if its because of the fresh flash or not
The Note which has issues is my wife's phone and she is a "power" user, lots of screen on time (think her timeout is set to like 2 minutes or something like that). I dont think she has seen any appreciable difference in battery life, but I'm sure it does drain a little bit as the partial wake lock never really allows the phone to enter into a true sleep/battery saving mode.
I had freezes and boot loops, and it turned out to be a bad battery. Strange, right? But it's true. I replaced the battery with a new one and everything worked fine again.
The battery had just started to swell, which is a sign of a failing battery. So, even if the battery isn't your problem, it's always good to check it now and then for changes in thickness.
