So I did Calk's tweak to get Sprint hot spot working. Tried it today but it seems to kill 4G? Does it not work with 4G?
Via EVO on XDA app...
Greetings,
I'm not sure it's related. But I just installed the XDA app, and found every time
I attempted to login, the 4G link would drop, and XDA threw the error;
service unavailable.
I simply blamed it on being a bad night for 4G in my area. But thought I'd respond
here just in case. I'll know better by tomorrow.

OK I just tried again and as you can see, XDA app works on my sprint 4G.

Not quite the same...I have no problems with 4G. It's just when I use the SPRINT WiFi router...the one in the market works fine on 4G. I also talked to a co-worker who said her (paid) sprint router works just fine with 4G, so its clearly an issue with my phone or ROM.
Via EVO on XDA app...
I noticed this too, when trying to use Sprint's Hotspot w/Calkulin's fix, the 4g icon drops and I only have 3g.
Can someone confirm that if they are paying for the Hotspot that it connects with 4g?
Same thing here, can't use native tethering with 4g. So I just switched to Easy Tether and Wireless Tether, they work fine with 4g.
I'm sure the native tethering would work over 4g if you were paying for it, I mean, they advertise it in the commercials, so I'd sure hope it works.
Hey... this thing makes phone calls too!
I tried the Sprint Hotspot app through Myns RLS2 to tether last night on 4g and it dropped down to 3g every time. Turned it off and right back to 4g. Maybe sometime soon that might work.

Don't count on it...I found in another thread that it registers the WiMax MAC when it connects and supposedly there's no way around this.
I just ended up buying an Overdrive...WiFi tether for Root users is toooooo slow as well.

Is there anyone who has a hack for the 4g working on cricket, I seen a video on Youtube with the 4g working on cricket.
No, 4G does not work on cricket. The EVO can be flashed to cricket but the 4G will not work. You must be misunderstanding the video. Link?
Yeah I knew that it could flashed with everything working but here is the video to show it. http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=/&gl=US#/watch?xl=xl_blazer&v=IQ5TaWsANYE
But if it can work, will it hacked?
You probably wanted to post this link:

There's no reason 4g won't work on a Cricket flashed phone. You just have to have some sort of account with whoever you're connecting the 4G to (Sprint or Clear). There is nothing major about what this guy has done. In all likelihood he's simply purchased one of those day passes for 4G ($9.99). I'm prompted to purchase one whenever I turn my 4G on and try to surf the web.
4G works, you still have to subscribe to it though
Ah ok I thought he was using hacked setting for his evo.

Simple question from the title. Personally I have only ever used it to test the speed. WiFi is simply too ubiquitous.
.001% if that, just not in my area, hell I dont even check when I get to where Im going anymore,ohwell... Yeah wifi is becoming free every where,I was just at McD's yesterday, used wifi for a good hour before I finally got up and left,oh and 3 cokes later,lol...

I have no wifi at home or really any place I seem to go. I use 4G for downloading most flashables and updating apps for the most part. I've never dl'd any flashables from a pc, all from the epic phone. I will use 3G for small dl's and small app updates.
4G used about 5~10% of the time.
I use it 100% of the time because it's faster than DSL.

Only use it on the train.

Only at work. I work in Boston and we were one of the first cities to get it. I live 30 minutes out of the city, however, and there's no 4G there. I also tend to use it mostly when plugged in, but I am happily surprised at how well the service stands by without murdering my battery.
Not much since it is too unreliable in my area. It is actually slower than 3G because of the disconnects. 3G is very fast with my Airave.
Do you BONSAI?
A few months ago I was lucky. I had 4g at work and at home. I didn't even know what it was like not having 4g. Now fast forward to today, I got laid off and now moved out of a 4g area and life with my phone isn't the same :-(
Practically never. When it actually works, it's slower than 3G.
It's a simple question but the poll response options are terrible.
I use it whenever possible, I'm using it right now in fact. What % is that? I don't have a clue.
It depends. If I am traveling around town a lot for work I stick with 3g and only use 4g for downloads. If not a lot of traveling, then 4g. It depends on the accessability of a charger. (If I broke down and got a car charger, I'd ue 4g 24/7)
Also unless I am actively using the data, I leave 3g on. Never run around with 4g on (why would I?)
Epic is as Epic does.
I was using it about once a month.. just to see what I would get with speedtest at my house.. but now I moved closer to my job.. and not only do I not have 4g at work or at my new place.. but I have to keep roam control on roaming.. because I dont have ANY service at home now.. and I never had it at work either..

Ehhh I thought it was kind of self-explanatory. What % of time that your phone is on is 4G enabled.
If I am in an area with 4g that usually means full signal 3g so why waste the battery to have 4g on? full signal 3g is plenty fast for a cell phone. Only reason I might use it is to stream HQ videos IF 3g struggles.

I live in Salt Lake City, UT, one of the first lauch cities for 4g. And I've given up even trying it to speed test.
When I turn it on, it constantly sleeps or drops, then taking time to switch back and forth with 3g. I bet 1x is faster than trying 4g. And I evn have the dropping problem right in the heart of the supposed coverage area.
But also my friend has a stock evo, and sitting right next to him, he'll get and hold great 3g coverage. While mine is constantly on/off/switching between 3g/4g.
So I finally got cm7, and it just so happens that I finally live in an area with 4g coverage. The built in wifi tether works, and wimax appears to work. What I do is turn on wimax, then the tether. How do I know if it is tethering 4g speeds? I haven't really noticed any difference.
*I have never used 4g before, because I haven't lived in an area that covered it.

If I recall correctly you can't tether 4g with the built-in function on CM7.

Yes I recently did an early upgrade with Sprint I got the Evo 3D but my question is i still have my HTC EVO 4G phone, i did not want them to have it because it's Rooted would Sprint know if I use Mobile Hotspot as wifi to connect to my Wifi only Tablet its a Toshiba Thrive Tablet and to remind I have no service on my Evo 4G no more so any suggestions and no im not going to root the Evo 3d phone if you guys are wondering.
First off, punctuation is your friend.
Second, if you aren't paying for service on your evo, you wont get 3g/4g, therefore you cannot use it as a hotspot.
Okay thanks but I just connected my Tablet and it work from the Evo 4G that's the phone that is rooted but no service on that phone but service on my EVO 3D
Again, if you aren't paying for service on that phone, you won't get 3g. If you ARE getting 3g, then it's likely the Evo is your active phone, and the 3d isn't active anymore on the account.
umm My 3d phone is active that is the phone that is new and My EVO4G is not Active but some how I can still use wifi portion of the service. For the HTC EVO 4G you are correct their is no 3G or 4G but wifi Yes.
Ok I don't think you understand how tethering works. Tethering takes your phone's 3g service, and sends it out via wifi for other devices to use. Yes, you can still use wifi on your old Evo 4G, nothing is stopping you from doing that. And yes, you can still turn on the hotspot. However, since the phone does not have 3g service, you wont actually get any data off the wifi.

Wait. what?
Your tablet connected to your Evo 4gs signal via mobile hotspot, but your Evo 4g doesn't HAVE a signal?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
That is correct see i am using wifi only Sprint hotspot I kept the EVO4G rooted so my Toshiba Thirve Tablet can connect to it when i am out and about and my EVO 3d phone is not rooted and no i am not paying for the service for Hotspot. Long Story Short or do i need to upload a video lol on youtube EVO4G no service or no 3G or 4G but only Wifi and my EVO3D phone has the service thats the phone I upgrade it too.
Again, if your 4g has NO service, you can still use the hotspot, and your tablet will connect to the phone, but you will NOT get any internet, as the phone has no internet source (3g).
And again, please use punctuation. It really helps us read and understand your questions.
Agreed. Punctuation is sssooooo important. Trying to read with no punctuation honestly makes my head hurt,....makes me feel like my head is just spinning and I'm going crazy. :banghead:

I've tried soft/hard resets and updating my android/profile and I still can't connect to 4g anymore. I'm ina 4g hotspot and have been connected for the past year and a half so I know I should be able to connect which leads me to believe sprint disconnected my 4g service. I got a call the other day from sprint notifying my that I use too much data (I tether) on my supposedly unlimited data plan.
1. Is it possible for them to throttle my speed down to 2g? I've speed tested and get .15mbps
2. Is there anything I can do about this?
How much data have you been using? I used 50GB between 3g and 4g last month and they never say anything to me lol

Do you tether w/ a official sprint tethering app and pay $30 per month or w/e it is now a days? If so those have 5GB data caps.

Sprint is going through network issues currently as they are doing some maintenance so you may have been affected by that, and are you rooted and on custom roms. I myself had data issues on CM7 when I used it...last resort my friend would be to just call Sprint and see what's up..
Reset your phone back to 100% stock then test.
If it works.. look into ROM issues
if it s doesnt work, call Sprint
Please don't even mention about their network issues. Gee wiz, for almost 3 weeks I've been having problems, but only when I'm at work. I finally got this damn issue escalated to the network dept. They r going to call me when they get an estimate time of resolutiion. Its driving me nuts
