Youtube app doesn't load videos when on 4g? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm in Southern California and technically 4g is not live so I dont know if that's the issue, but I'm able to connect to 4g and do a speed test..
But when I go to the youtube app, it says "sorry, cannot load this video" or something like that... Does anyone else have this issue?
Now that I think of it I probably should have tested it through the regular browser and not just the youtube app... I'll try that next time in the 4g area and report back.
Anyone else experience this or have any ideas why it doesn't work on 4g? When I turn off 4g and go to 3g it loads the same videos fine.

Just bumping this thread to the top. anyone?

Yea it happens every now and then. 4g is not fully functional yet, I think they limit certain thing they are routing.
Wait until they officially turn it on, then you can complain to sprint about it if it still happens.
I see times when I will have full 4g signal and cannot do anything data related. I am connected to the tower, but the tower is not connected to anything.

awesome, that makes sense and I was kind of thinking that. Just wanted to confirm if anyone else has seen that at all.
Thanks mate!

Youtube upload via 4g.

First, I tried searching and couldn't find anything or just missed it.
When I upload videos to YouTube it will keep timing out and saying that it will retry in one minute. I also found that if my screen turns off while it's doing that, it sometimes won't continue. Anyone else have this issue or have a way to fix it? I have to keep the screen on by sliding my finger down the screen and having to click the uploading video to get it to retry.
No one?
gd,mgfn,gms
Is this the Q&A forum or just the Q forum? Maybe someone will answer that.
I just want to know if anyone else has that issue and if anyone has an idea to alleviate it.
I don't have 4g but I think it may have happened a few times to me on 3g. I usually prefer to stay on wifi, especially if you are uploading something and the 4g signal goes out for a split second, it could end the data transfer.
Sorry I cant help!

Hi, thanks for answering. I have great 4g service where I live and usually have 2 to 3 bars all of the time. I was thinking maybe it would time-out a lot for some reason. But, thanks again.
Never
I still have never been able to upload a video on any network 3/4g or wifi. It always times out. Maybe it's an unpublished bug(won't be the first)

Hm. I wish someone would chime in that has done the 4g time-out hack to see if they have the same issue.

EVO becomes jerky (slow) intermittently when 4g (WIMAX) is enabled?

I have had my phone since launch and whenever I turned on 4g my phone will seems to be a bit jerky or lag. I thought it is because I am in a 4g test area (LA), but now that it is official, I am still experiencing the same problem. Also, 4g seems to be dropping in/out throughout 405, even sensorly map viewer have reported solid coverage throughout. Anyone has similar experience?
I'm not in the LA area, but I've noticed the same lag in the device with the 4G radio on as well. Apps take longer to load, tend to freeze for a few seconds, scrolling is choppy, and so on. I am also in a 4G market.
Running stock 2.2 and hardware version 003. I end up not bothering to use my 4G radio, since I don't really need the speeds.
In the LA area and have the same problem, even when I have a good signal still lags quite a bit at times. But then at times it works flawlessly.

I was in Minneapolis over thanksgiving and it was choppy tand spotty there too. I found that if you restart your phone with 4G on it wont be choppy, but when you switch back to 3G I got terrible batter life till I restarted my phone again, like 10 or less hours of batter life with me barely touching my phone. There are still some bugs to be worked out with 4G, thats for sure
It happens too in Miami
Same problem here. It used to be fine a couple of months ago with my wife phone ... the only difference is that her phone is rooted now.
Had same problem
I had the same problem. After six months I realized it was due to running adfree. The host file was blocking the ads and for some reason freezing or lagging the web page. No problem with 3g or wifi, only when using 4g. I have since reverted the the original host file and unistalled adfree and bam. 4g is smoking fast even with the ads. Don't know if any others have had similar experiences but it was finally nice to figure it out and enjoy 4g speeds.
Amazing! I always thought it was a flaky 4G but it was just 4G choking on the adfree block list in dns. 4G seems much smoother now and pages that refused to come up work fine with the adfree block list reverted! Any idea why it doesnt affect 3G/WiFi?
Keep in mind after you turn wimax off, the wimax chip is still running. If you download alogcat from the market you can see the wimax chip constantly trying to initialize but erroring out. The only way to turn it off is by rebooting the phone. This happens on both the Evo and Evo-Shift.
*edit - reboot to turn off wimax.

Only way is reboot. You do have a great idea. I'm curious as why the devs have not tried to implement a kill switch so it really stops.

Yeah this would be a good thing. My phone doesn't act like that when 4g is on though, I'm oc'd to 1.19 but it's on interactive and it barely goes over 998.

Can anyone explain the erratic signal?

My phone acts very weird and I don't know if it's normal or not. My phone's signal jumps between full bars and then 1 or no bars when I surf the web or send a picture message. It's downright annoying. Sure, it usually sends and receives data, but the fluctuating signal is getting to be beyond annoying. Anyone else having this problem? I'm on the current version of the Frozen Syndicate ROM.

Welcome to Sprint.
We all would like a valid reason besides spring saying "were currently fixing our antenna's."

What he said. This is very common on the Epic. Happens to me a lot =\
Running SRF 1.1.0 as well.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it had to do with the modem builds with the epic. I don't think it is a Sprint universal issue, because I did not have this issue on any of my previous sprint devices (that I remember).

Correct, it's the modem. That's why you see people on the forum complaining about the EC05 modem sometimes because it has signal bar issues, or stuff like that.
My phone does the same thing, even if it's sitting and NOT moving. Even my data speeds fluctuate sooooo much, it sucks. Sometimes Youtube will work great, other times they won't even start to load.
Hmmm...
It probably is the tower. Could be the modem to blame as well. Here in my house, I connect to my Airrave. 98% of the time, I have full bars with a stable connection with relatively consistent fast 3G speeds. The 2%, I get some wonky lag and usually then go and reset the Airrave. Everything works fine after I reset it.
I was just out of town in Vegas over the weekend and I had MAJOR problems sending MMS's, highly erratic data speeds, fluctuating signal, and overall connection problems. That was even when I wasn't holding the phone. Voice data and sending SMS's were very reliable, but forget sending MMS's or having good 4G speeds. I'm starting to think 4G is a drain both battery and money wise. Using 4G is like driving a classic car: It doesn't always start up, they're hard to find, they're finicky; but when it works properly, it's badass!
Random question: Is there an app that has a status bar for sending SMS and MMS's like the iPhone? For example, on the iPhone when you send an SMS or MMS, there's a status bar that shows the status of that message. If it's going out or lagging, etc. Is there an app that does that? I think that's a cool feature. Handcent just has a circular pinwheel, but stops when it goes out.
I would think it has to do with the modem as well. I have an EB13 based ROM, but an EC05 modem. I've noticed similar things, just not very frequently. It's strange...I'll have "great" signal, then for no reason, it'll dorp to 1x coverage and that SUCKS.
I'm thinking of going back to the EB13 modem as most people seem to think it's quite a bit better than the EC05 modem. I do think even that varies from phone to phone though, so I think it's mostly trial and error until you find what works best for you.
I have a fantastic update. Well it is for me, and might be for all f you also. Last night I decided to odin the EC05 modem again. And guess what? My signals beeen great!! Its always constant! No 4bars then zero in same spot no more!!
I already had the EC05 modem before I decided to do this. I recommmend odin'in you modem again!!
BIG NOTE*** I used the phone location for the modem.tar NOT pda.

I am having issues as well, i haven't been able to send any MMS for the past 24 hours. Regular texts go through just fine.
I'm having big problems with this recently in a location where I usually get very strong signal with 4G. Can anyone point me to step by step instructions of how to safely and correctly flash just the modem file?

Issue - youtube, browser, market etc take forever to load

Wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this issue:
I'm on t-mobile and coming from a G2x.
For some reason when I'm in the office, despite having 4 bars on H, any app (browser, youtube, market etc...) that uses a data connection takes forever to load. Sometimes the connection even times out.
Then when I go outside things work well again, but I never had this issue on my G2x. Its really frustrating, especially when I have downtime at the office and want to start downloading apps etc.
What can it be? Anyone experiencing similar issues??
UPDATE:
Think I may have found the cause of this issue. I was stuck on edge in the office (which used to happen on my G2x as well) so I switched to WCDMA-only. Going back to auto/prl fixed the issue. But still I wonder why. I would like to keep it on WCDMA-only if possible. Any thoughts?
Towers might be overloaded. It is peaktime.

[Q] Evo 4G on Boost Mobile Stale Data Connection (Error 104)

My data works. I'm getting 3G speeds (approx 2 mbps). There are NO other errors on this phone except the random Error 104 and only sometimes Error 67. I've updated my PRL to the 11115 version. I can leave my phone on and not touch it, the data connection randomly kicks out, goes stale, the sending arrow is active, but nothing responds. I have to cycle my data connection off then back on, and that usually fixes it.
It does this A LOT. So much so, I put a Mobile Data on/off widget on my home screen. The internet works just great when it works, how can I get the connection from basically stalling out ALL the time?
If you've had this issue, or are having this issue, please respond.
The donor phone was a w385 (which is a 1x phone I know, but again, I'm getting 3G speeds, guaranteed - when it works right, I can stream HD Youtube videos with no problem at all). How can I get this connection to go up and STAY working??
I'm pulling my hair out over this one...
Mine is doing the exact same thing. Started this morning, has been perfect for the month or so I have had it on boost. Its been driving me crazy all day.
Mine's been doing it since I got it. I was primarily in a wifi area, now I'm strictly on 3G and I can't stand it. I'm so desperate for a fix, especially if it's something I'm doing wrong...
Out of curiosity... have you changed anything, like a kernel or ROM? If it's a kernel, what did you change it to? Trying to see if we have any similarities in our setup and work backwards from there...
I haven't changed anything at all. Im running stock rom with nothing but factory updates, have done nothing to this phone except root it before it was flashed. Just went to sleep with it working fine and woke up next morning to this. I haven't been getting the error code today as much but still having to turn data off then back on a lot. im about ready to throw this phone out the window and go sign a contact lol
I'm having the same problem. I just flashed my phone over to boost mobile a few days ago and I had a hard time getting 3g data to work. I was getting 1x data only. So I got the different passwords that I needed and 3g started working. But for some reason, after about 5 min or so, the data would just become stale and nothing would work (web pages, twitter, etc) even tho the data icon and arrows were still present. Its been happening ever since I flashed. I'm not sure what's causing it but if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate a response.

It's your location. I moved from Haslet, TX down to Austin, TX, and I haven't had a single problem in Austin. Just to confirm, I went back up to Haslet, BOOM instantly started happening.
It's an error with the towers in particular locations. I confirmed it by calling up Sprint, and asking them to check in Haslet's zipcode for any issues, and they did confirm there are issues in that area.
I was sooooo ready to dropkick this phone. Sorry for the unfortunate news, but with Sprint's little network upgrade, it's causing these issues.

Thanks for the update man. I was about to go crazy!! Well hopefully they can get this issue worked out pretty soon here because this is getting ridiculous
Yeah I had to update this to let those with the issue know. I couldn't stand it!
Well I'm in Atlanta and mine quite giving error codes but internet is slow as hell right now. it does it at my house, job, our wherever I'm at. 40 miles away and still does it.
That's cause you're still in the same market.
