Root Slide Using Mac Computer - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm almost sure that this has been answered before, but honestly I am too lazy to go through every post. if this has been answered already then please be kind enough to post the link. Once I find out if theres a forum with the answer I am looking for then I well simply delete this topic. Please no complaints about "you should of used the search bar" or "search is your friend". Hopefully I get help. Thanks!

There are several posts in the development section on how to root the slide. Look for the one with instructions for Ubuntu Linux (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780213). That method should work just fine for a Mac. Assuming you can set up adb properly (I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials on that for the Mac elsewhere) and use a terminal with ease, the only change to those instructions would be dropping the "sudo" before each command.

I greatly appreciate your response. Not to sound picky, but I would like to find some info specifically for the Mac. I'm scared of messing the Slide up. I hope your not offended. Once again thank you very much.

1) How do you root the stock 2.2 Update?
2) Will SetCPU work on it?
2.2 ota is not out yet and you can't root it cause you have to downgrade to an engineering rom to root and then flash a pre rooted rom,I assume devs will release a flashable rom of 2.2 soon after the official release and we will probably have a stable aosp rom before the official release so I'm really no stressin it.

[Q] a new update from T-Mobile for the slide is it Froyo?

so today i just got the data plan on my slide
its pretty sweet and what not, i just recently got a notification saying
"T-mobile update service-
new firmware is avalible"
now im wondering
is this froyo?
should i update?
im not rooted because im a little panzy about rooting my phone, since it looks really hard
but anyways im asking what is this update?
it's most likely the last update that is already here 1.35 which is not froyo just pretty much a patch update for a few things.

Easiest and reliable way to jailbreak

I love my G2 but I really like the sense ui so I want to jailbreak my G2 but I want to know which is the best way I have been reading through the forums and can't find a clear answer any help would be greatly appreciated

Scroll down to the root guide and begin.
cant get adb
thanks but that way is hard and i cant figure it out i cant really get adb down enough to truly trust my self to do it
Please don't use the term jail break unless you are referring to an actual iphone

my bad "Root" its been a while since i had to ask anything last question i posted was about my g1
This is about as easy as it can get, thought it really isn't the recommended method anymore. If that's still too hard for you, then you need to slow it down and start reading.

Please note that any means other than the wiki have resulted in many, many bricks; as long as you follow the wiki guide perfectly, double check your typing, etc. you'll be fine.

the www.threunlockr.com guide worked for me perfectly.
Easiest and reliable are not the same thing. The Wiki method is most reliable.

The method posted by OriginalGabriel is the way to go. Trust me. I did it and was smooth as butter. I'm not sure why it has such a bad rep since I have heard of NO bricks from the easy root method. I think people see "Visionary" and get scared. It's perfectly safe for temprooting but a VERY bad idea for perm-root. The Gfree method is used for that... all you will be doing is running the scripts for Gfree instead of keying them in manually. No ADB, no hassle, much less room for error. Once you are rooted, get rid of Visionary and enjoy.

Naw, I agree with Pirateghost. Jargon exists for a reason. If one does not use the proper terminology, its hard to know what they are talking about. For instance, sometimes people ask "How do I unlock my phone?". Its impossible to know whether they are asking how to root, or how to unlock the SIM.

its not pretentious. iphones and androids are worlds apart.

This +100
People coming over from the iPhone world may not know what all is going on here, so it is important to not confuse terminology. exactly like redpoint73 said, how do we know if they mean UNLOCK or ROOT or ROM?? do you know? if you do, then by all means help the guy out, i would prefer to not get the terminology muddled with inconsistencies.

Um, no ... Android is Linux/Unix based and "root" is the full access user to Linux/Unix; we're not trying to be special, we just are

Rooting with macs

Sorry for the noob question... But.. is there a step by step guide or tutorial anywhere for rooting the incredible 2 with a mac. All I can find is stuff for the thunderbolt..
Sorry wish I could help. I also have a MAC but just borrow my gfs pc when i have to do anything root or mod wise. If I find anything I'll post it. You probably need to use terminal in the process if using a MAC.

I think you just use revolutionary's Linux tool. I don't think drivers are needed on a MAC. Check out this link. At the bottom it tells you how to irc them with questions.

dude pm me if you need help I did it on linux I'm sure its the same for mac.

what set up you think is the best to increase data speeds?

I know data speeds depends on your carrier but what set up of ROM, modem, radio, or anything you think is the best to increase my crappy speeds. Here is an example of my set up and my speeds.
Thanks
Mario
My guesses that it depends on:
How your device, specifically, interacts with the currently used modem;
Your CPU settings, if you changed them from stock;
Your proximity to the tower;
Your signal (dBm) strength;
The strain on the tower/network at the time; and,
Removing the Sprint proxy couldn't hurt either.
I would imagine that undervolting and underclocking your device would be counter-productive in this case, but that's just an assumption.
Your question is borderline the same as all the other: "What's the best [ROM/kernel/CPU settings/setup]?" Each phone performs differently to kernels. modems & custom ROMs. So why don't you try a few and see what best fits your device based on your desired outcome.

Find the 3G Turbocharger RC 2 find script manager and find where that .txt was saved.
Make sure you run as root which is the su icon make sure that's green and then run it. Number 5 is what I use but test em all via speedtest.net mobile and make sure you run a test first then do the script then reboot and test each one. Make sure to reboot after each time you choose one
