I've applied a lot of screen protectors, but I'm no expert. YMMV. Even so, you want to start with a dust-free environment. Tiny specks of dust, if like me, you live out in the country, are as problematic as air bubbles, and a serious pain to remove. If you get one on a sticky surface, while you're removing it with scotch tape, you're also risking more little particles landing on it. It can be a never-ending nightmare and eventually leave the protector so marred with residue that it's no longer worth using on such a gorgeous device--so prevention is the best cure.
Step 1: Dust free room.
I recommend a bathroom for a dust-free setting. Well before taking anything inside, hit the shower on as hot as it goes and let it steam up the room, keep the door as closed as possible. Once it's off, the steam will cool and weigh down particles in the air. Once the room is no longer moist, carefully bring in your phone and protectors, maybe a credit card too without letting in too much outside air or new unweighted dust. Open and close the door slowly--quick movements will draw in lots of dusty air, but don't dilly-dally while getting inside either. It's time-consuming to set up, but worth it if you live in a dusty area.
Step 2: Orientation
Now you want to find a location on the phone that will allow you to orient placement of the protector. If the protector has a hole for the speaker, or light sensor or whatever--that's the end you want to start with because the more border you have to work with, the easier it will be to align it straight from the start. You're going to want to start on a narrow end so you are laying it down longwise as this will be easier to manage bubbles as you go mm by mm. Make sure your screen is completely clean (hopefully you haven't removed the original plastic covering until just now), and then peel off a little of the screen protectors' backing and orient it along a border of the phone. If you can get that part straight, the rest of the protector will go down straight as well.
Step 3: Slow Application
Now you're going to slowly peel back more and more of the backing as you slowly apply more and more of the protector. If you get a bubble as you go, back it up a millimeter and lay it down again more slowly. This is the time to use the credit card if you get a bubble that just keeps coming up in the same spot--don't wait until it's applied and try to push it out. That's a nightmare.
A good protector can last years if applied properly the first time and not abused. I use clairvue and they're very durable. I don't know about the included TP2 protector.
Step 4:Breathe
You weren't breathing while doing this were you? No wonder it sucks.
I alwaus use a bank Card.
being down en slowly slide the bank pass upward. This covers all the screen and leaves no bubbles. then do it a second time, mosliding the card upwards. Works for me most of the time. (at least, don't know if the screen is straight, or has a little angle in it?)
Mine went on without a problem...
first clean the screen of all gunk dust finger prints (yes we know you played befor putting on the screen protector) etc etc
Do this as said above in a dust free room or just have hoovered is normaly just as easy
peel the lower part of the protector off the plastic backing ... the backing they provide is quite stiff so you can use this to apply the protector
you only want to peel back around 1-2cm or about half an inch i chose the bit which goes over the buttons you may want to do the camera end first
I then used a glasses cloth but any decently fine weave cloth which is dust free will do and slowly very slowly stuck the protector to the screen and massaged the edge down peeling it off the backing as i went.
OPk re reading that it doesn't ake much sense but if you fold it over on itself using the backing to hold it off the screen and run the edges down you won't get air bubbles i found
Mild soapwater misted to the sticker and to the surface to be attached.
Then apply the sticker and align to the surface where to attach
Push the soapwater out from between the film and the surface.
NOTE: this is a general rule to apply stickers! I have no knowledge on phone shields.
nevermind i must have had a small bit sticking off the side the corner of mines just lifted and must have got a few small bits of dust in the gap ... i wonder if the adhesive is water soluble
Well I thought I'd screwed up my screen protector, but I salvaged it. It took about eight goes but it's on and working brilliantly.
Here are some salvaging tips:
1. When you're lifting the protector off, try and avoid bending any part too much. This is particularly relevant for the corners.
There are two ways of lifting the protector from the screen. The best is with sticky tape (Sellotape?) which can be applied near the corner and will be the easiest method. But if your stickky tape's rubbish, it might not lift the protector. In that case, you can carefully use the tip of a sharp knife to lift the very smallest amount you can. As you lift, you're looking to minimise the contact area by turning the knife sideways and definitely not allowing the knife's point or sharp edge touch the protector.
2. As it lifts, try and help the protector up by just holding the edges.
3. Take your time. The thing WILL drop back down a few times as you lose your grip, but just relax, take a deep breath and start again.
Once it's off:
1. Clean the phone screen.
2. fortunz and magius00 have given some great application tips elsewhere. Here what you're looking for is a perfectly clean screen with no dust.
Now. Before reapplying the protector:
1. Wash it with soap. I've used both shower gel and washing-up liquid. Wash both sides. Use your fingers to wash it.
2. Minimise contact with the "sticky side" once it's washed.
3. Rinse it well. Both sides. Clean water.
4. Don't bother to dry it. Definitely don't. You'll make it worse than ever. You can gently shake it to lose the largest drops. Both sides can have water droplets. Fear not.
As the protector goes on, try and minimise the contact around the edges whilst maximising pressure from the middle. Basically, the more secure the edges at this stage, the more difficult it's going to be to squeeze out any trapped air bubbles. Squeeze the bubbles from the centre outwards.
Once I'd done this about four (!) times, patiently putting the protector on and then gently easing it off again as some stray pube or grain of sand had found its way in between (how?), I eventually achieved an air-bubble, pube and sand-free application. The only trouble was the screen underneath appeared misty - but at least it was being protected; I planned on ordering a new one after the weekend. I did however notice one or two very clear patches. Now, some 48 hours after putting the protector on, the mistiness is totally gone and I have a perfectly clear, bubble-free screen protector on my lovely new toy. I don't need to order another screen protector after all.

I had no problem getting mine on, but since it's been on it's already somehow managed to get scratched and it's peeling by the end call key as well.
Can't wait until there are some decent ones on the market.

Thanks to all for advice. I went with EXCIM (http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K:MEWNX:IT&item=270398112761#ebayphotohosting )and it fitted easily and well, no bubbles or stange curly hairs. It's a bit thicker than the one that comes with the TP, but also a teenshy bit smaller which makes it a more forgiving fit on the device.
Another tip - use clear tape to lift the screen protector and / or dust from screen protector. Works like a charm!
Further to the sticky tape suggestion - 3M Scotch tape works the best for this

I cannot stand the installation procedure needed for the screen protectors. Every single time: I use the "provided micro fiber" cloth to remove dirt and lint and the apply. EVERY TIME I am left with tiny lint,, micro specs of air dust etc. between the film and the screen, and a small little bubble here and there. It drives me crazy. Call me obsessive compulsive but it take me about 3 screen protectors until I finally get it right. Anyone aware of any screen protection technology that will help me avoid this outcome?
I don't, but I did read that if you apply it in the bathroom after running hot water and steaming it up real good that it will help that problem a lot. I plan to try that when I get my first screen protector this week.

Hard type screen protectors will solve your bubble issues. Martin Fields screen protectors is pretty much impossible to have bubbles stuck inside it.
However it won't solve your dust problem. If anything, it's much easier to see dirt and other imperfections stuck between the screen and a Martin Field protector.
Or you could try one of the crystal screen protectors from boxwave. I had your problem too with my first 2 screen protectors, and it seemed that I couldn't just get them on there without a problem. With this one from boxwave, I just wiped it off with the provided micro-fiber cloth and used the bubble-elimination card to remove any possible bubbles under the screen!

Get the ones from ATT. I have tried Bodyguardz, Zagg, Stealth Guards, and some generic BS from eBay. All of those were the type you apply with the solution (and have that dreaded orange peel look) and you have to wait for it to "cure" and it is extremely easy to get bubbles stuck in them.
The ones from ATT on the other hand, are completely smooth and truly invisible. They are a stiffer material and you do not need application solution. I am very happy with them and for 9.99 you get 3 of them. If you mess one up by getting some lint on it or whatever, you can just wash it with soapy water and spray it down with some water+baby soap and re apply it that way. Very easy to get the air bubbles out that are caused by using the solution. Again, they can be installed with no solution at all and if done carefully, it should look like nothing was ever installed on the phone

I got them from a local store for 7$ since I got a discount. Those above ^^ from BoxWave seem extremely over priced. For 10$ you can't go wrong with the ones from ATT.
I am using clarivue not even a single dust, lint, inside. It's the quick and easy 3 layer type screen protectors.
Here's a tip ... go to the bathroom and turn on hot water on sink or whatever to create humidity that would trap the dust or w/e in the air ... and it makes this easier to apply.
I haven't had a screen protector on my Vibrant in almost 2 months now & even with constantly putting it in my pocket with my keys, dropping it once onto my driveway & even fumbling it into bouncing off a brick wall one time I have yet to scratch my screen. The rest of the phone is dented & scratched but the screen is still beautiful.

I had my iPod Touch for years, in and out of pockets with keys and pocket-knives and cell phones, dropped countless times, two little kids messing with it all the time, accidentally sliding it face-down across surfaces, and so on. Never used a screen protector, never got a single blemish or scratch. And that was basically plain old arsenic-free glass. The Captivate is made with Corning's high-tech Gorilla Glass.
Sure, either could still scratch or break. But it's like getting a car with an expensive paintjob, and then covering the whole thing in Scotch tape so it won't get scratched. You end up with something that looks god-awful 100% of the time, because you're afraid something might happen to it that would affect how it looks. Pretty much any time someone hands me their smartphone or DS, it is a scratched, smudgy, dusty mess because of some $40 screen cover they have on there. I always try to point out that it seems odd to make your screen look terrible on purpose just because you're afraid of you might make it look terrible on accident. I used one good one once, that you couldn't even tell was there, but the first time I took it on a flight it turned into smears of rainbows.
use a piece of clear packing tape to remove the dust. running the shower helps bring dust down but there will be some lint from the cloth. dont lean over it, a lot of "dust" is dry dead skin or dandruff so if you have dry skin or dry scalp dust will fall on it. also stop being so anal.

I don't need no stinkin' screen protector. I mean unless I know my phone is going to be dragged across macadam but then a screen protector won't help, will it.
Gorilla Glass... Screen Protector unnecessary... I have always used a screen protector too on previous phones but the screen on this phone is rugged.

Yet, one day I found a scratch on my screen that I have no idea whatsoever where it came from. So, I got this Boxwave ClearTouch Crystal screen protector, and you literally cannot tell it is on there. It feels just like the glass (con for me actually, I prefer a paper kind of feel) and doesn't scratch easily at all. Plus, I installed it in a dusty room and there was no lint or anything else under the screen. It even comes with a thick card to remove bubbles once it has been applied. So, if you're even slighty, .000001% scared of getting lint trapped underneath the screen, go with Boxwave. I vouch for its clarity and ease of installation. Also, my screen is just as sensitive as before, as I've tried BARELY touching the screen and it still would pick up a touch.
And, in the rare event that you did get dust glued to the screen, it is completely washable and rewashable, so it is a little expensive, but well, well worth it.
Oh, and there is no adhesive whatsoever, not even water is needed. Just peel and go.

totally terrible advice. not that i care but i have about 20 microscratches and a couple decent sized ones....
it takes time to learn how to put screen protectors on... I have probably put 500 or so on all different types of phones you just wipe it clean tilt it so that you can make sure there are no dust particles... then you pull the backing off of the protector a few inches apply to the designated area and take a credit card and follow the rest of the protector down... works everytime

I second this . there is no such thing as 'unscratchable glass' some very expensive sunglasses use to have that warranty , guess what , they dont anymore ...
although I have to say the argument about HAVING YOUR PHONE LOOK UGLY JUST IN CASE SOME ACCIDENT CAN HAPPEN TO MAKE UGLY made me laugh , I d never have a phone without one my advice :
Just buy a few cheap ones on eBay and master the trick when your bored , after 3 times it should be installed perfectly , I also noticed if you have light scratches already on it , the screen protector hides them so thats a bonus
Ive tried SO many screen protectors. The only one I have been happy with so far (and VERY happy at that) is Realook. They are SUPER clear, thin, and very hard. You do not lose the glassy feel or the crisp vivid look on the screen. Ive put them on a few phones now, a few Vibrants and a Mytouch Slide 3g (my gf didnt even know i had put it on there till i told her). Its $10 for 2 protectors and I HIGHLY recommend them.

I have a tiny little chip right in the middle of my screen on my Captivate about a cm underneath the AT&T logo. It has taken less abuse than yours, and it even has a screen protector on it. It looks like the kind of chip you would get if a piece of gravel hit your windshield a little too hard.

Thanks for the info on the Boxwave screen protector, I've been wandering if it's as good as it looks.
In the malls near me now, there are little carts (you know those areas of the mall, where the cart/carny people are) that have people with small steady hands...
Invisible Shield it is called. They give you a lifetime warranty on the cover. They put it on. They will even cover your entire phone if you want (the back of the Captivate I am thinking of getting covered to avoid scratches on the metal back), and if you get a replacement phone for some reason, you only pay a portion of the price (material only) and they put it on again.
They use some sort of silicon liquid (snake oil... was probably just water) to aid in putting it on, and mine is perfect. Had a couple bubbles with the liquid still in it, but true to their word, it evaporated (through the protector) and it was perfect the next morning.
I jumped at this opportunity after totally FAILING at putting on a protector on my Tilt 2 (two packs of 3). On that phone, I took an exacto knife to cut off the excess I was so bad at it. I gladly paid $20 to have someone else do it and give me a warranty on it.

Dude, I'm pretty sure there is already a thread on this a few posts below... personally, I find eBay has the cheapest, and as long as you're careful in your application, they work great. I got one that reduces glare and doesn't collect fingerprints like the screen used to. They also have privacy screens, mirror screens, and more. Just depends on how much you pay. If you really have to have a perfect application of the screen and have the money, then get a screen protector at one of those little mall kiosks, where they are usually more than happy to put it on for you, the right way. It just tends to cost more than buying online.

You've got to make sure that your screen is absolutely clean and dustless. If there's dust, a bubble will form around the dust particle and no amount of pushing will get rid of the bubble. I use a lint free wipe (the kind sold for cleaning glasses or computer screens) as well as a piece of microfiber cloth to dry the screen off. Then I blow the screen clean with canned air. I make sure my hands are washed and I don't touch the screen protector directly. I find that even if I hold the screen protector by the edge only, I'll leave at least one speck of dust. Instead, I put a piece of scotch tape on the upper surface of the screen protector and use that as a handle to manipulate the protector while I install it.
I've also had luck carefully lifting off the protector with scotch tape and then sticking the corner of a lint free wipe in, sandwiched between the screen and the protector, to pull out that one last dust particle.

You can save them...use clear packing tape and secure it to a table sticky side up.
Take your screen protector that has the dust (the side that sticks to the screen) face down on the sticky take. Keep a hold of the screen protector by using scotch tape or similar...push down and just pull up...and repeat until the protector is clean and reapply to your phone.

Thats a great idea! Will this also remove finger prints?
I made the mistake of grabbing the sticky side out of frustration and put a nice smudge on it.
Yes it sure will. It will totally clean it off. The only thing that method can't fix are creases or bends.
This way, it'll save you from having to buy more screen protectors since those are still pretty new.

really doesn't matter what type of screen protector it is... I've always found that, Glass Cleaner, blow dryer, and a credit card always work best. Make sure your screen is clean, hold your phone about half of an arms length away, spray the cleaner so there's a light mist of it on the phones screen. Place the screen protector, and the cleaner should give you a bit of play before it's set, get where you want it, use the credit card to remove any air bubbles, and the blow dryer will help dry what little cleaner is left behind the screen protector... Hope this helps

I've had my Realook on late November. It's still in excellent condition. I occasionally use scotch tape on one corner to lift it up and remove what little dust collects around the edges.
Another trick I know of is to apply the SP in the bathroom after running the shower on hot for a few minutes. It gets a lot of moisture in the air and causes dust to settle for a bit. Combine that with an impeccably clean screen, careful application (with latex or nitrile gloves if you got some), and a good squeegee and you'll be tip-top.

For those of you with the realook protector, are you having any problems with the proximity sensor on the phone? There's reviews on amazon stating that the realook covers the entire front face of the phone (including the little proximity sensor in the top left). Apparently, this makes it impossible for the phone to tell when it's up to your ear during calls, and subsequently the screen stays dark no matter what you do. Can anyone else confirm this issue, and does your realook screen protector cover just the rectangular lcd screen, or the entire front glass face of the phone?

no, but they do provide a lifetime warranty on your invisibleshield...if anything happens, you send it back and they'll send you a new one free of charge
I love my invisible shields and i put one on every device I won

I have no cut out for the sensors and it covers the entire glass. I've never had problems with the proximity sensor.
However, I do remember reading that they changed their template and that the newer version isn't as good. Might want to look into that before buying.
yeah with ZAGG, you pay a premium, but it also contains the pieces to cover the back and sides of the phone. This + the tmobile clear hard shell case is quite the combo to a protected phone
ive found the screen protectors from BestSkinEver are literally the bestever! haha...but seriously, they are amazing and feel like a soft gel when it completely dries and you'll hafto wait till it completely dries to see how amazing the skin looks. if done carefully (the site provides detailed instructions - water and a tiny bit of soap is needed), you'll have the clearest skin you could want! good luck!

I was wondering if there are any go to screen proctectors? Any to avoid, like do any cause issues with the touch screen?

I'd avoid the hard plastic static-type. They're difficult to put on without dust. I've been using the ones from clearprotector (.com). 50% off and free ship with the code iwantultra (have it memorized cause I've gotten several). The corners and edges are kind of a ***** to get on, but they work well and come with a lifetime warranty (or so they say...). This is a wet-application so don't use them unless you're willing to take the time to watch the youtube videos to learn how to install, and then takes about 20 minutes to install.
I get mine from www.bestskinsever.com. I've had no problems with them. The screen protector is easy to apply and very durable.
I have Ghost Armor on mine and like it, it is a bit smoother than Zagg or Bestskinsever.
Be warned if you want the full body protection, adding this to the back of my tab caused me to have the newton ring problem. I never had the problem with just the screen protector on, I should I have just stuck with the screen and not the entire thing but I really wanted the matte back on my tab.
Thanks fellas. I have and used to do/use the wet application ones for a while. Then I got tired of them and just went with the cling ones. I think I'll get the wet app and it should last a longgg time. Especially since Im not going to be using the tab every day.
I went with Clarivue on the recommendation of a friend.
It's decent enough, no tackiness or anything like that but it's not the best fitting, could've been a couple of mm wider and taller.
Other than that, whilst I've had a long-standing dislike for them, recently I've found Zagg's InvisibleShield protectors to be pretty decent - they seem to be very well fitted and the tacky feel to them that I remember doesn't seem as noticeable.
Kinda wish I'd gone with them for my Tab
Which would you guys say offers the smoothest screen experiences of all? I don't care about longevity as I only use my tab about once every 2 weeks
Imo the smoothest would be the cling on ones.

I was never a fan of the "wet" applications, to me it just seemed like too much work and I was never comfortable spraying any type of liquid all over my devices, regardless of how harmless they might be.
But anyway, this is a clear, non-matte protector that is the "static cling" kind of application. Once it goes on properly, you cannot see that is even there. The touch feeling is the same as if you had no protector on. I really feel that those matte ones, while they do reduce sun-glare, a lot of them provide a "tacky" feeling that maybe is fine for a smaller screen such as a phone, but can become very annoying for a larger screen if you do a lot of swiping across the larger surface area of a tablet. But that is a personal thing....I usually don't use my tablet outside in the bright sun anyway, so the matte types are useless for me.
I've had it on since the end of July and it's held up very well. You do have to wipe the smudges off the screen occasionally, but you'd have to do that anyway even with no protector. I'm extremely satisfied with these.
So I've got an Invisible Shield en route for my Tab, will post back when it arrives.

I just bought the glare-reduction screen protector from BodyGuardz. Has anyone else had any experience with them? I wanted something that would offer a decent amount of protection for the screen (fingerprint and physical pressure), but also not reduce the touch sensitivity at all. (I type with the tip of my nose since I can't use my fingers, and trying to press too hard hurts )
Not sure where you can get it, but here in Singapore there's a brand called DataFlex and their screen protectors seem really good.
I bought SGP steinheil shield ultra optics. I liked it.

So this newton ring issue is a major problem. What if I just protect the back and leave the screen open? I have the new logitech keyboard case on the way and the front is protected in the case, but the back is exposed. I planned on protecting the back only. But I wont do anything if it'll case the newton rings.

Yeah. Same here. Just want a more "grippy" back. How does one produce Newton Rings from the back of the device. Methunked it was a display issue resulting from the interaction of the protector and display glass...kinda by definition...
Hopefully we'll find out soon. I just want to protect the back.

I blame the install of the rear skin because I had the screen skin installed first and then three weeks later I had the rear done. He turned the tab face down and installed the skin. When he turned it over, bam, Netwon Rings...
I never had them before the front screen protector, during the front screen protector install or after the front protector was on the Tab.
Will it happen to you? I have no idea but from what I have read about the problem it is caused because of the Tab moving/flexing which can be caused by excessive heat and certain handling of the Tab.

I bought an anti-glare protector from Cellularbuy on eBay and managed to get it on in one go with no dust at all. The protector fits perfectly and the camera and light sensor holes line up spot on. The anti-glare makes the screen look a little grainy, but I hear that even the Steinhell ones that are many times more expensive have the same problem.
This has been gone over millions of times on each forum here, but here's how I did it:
-Wipe the screen down with a soft cloth and glasses cleaner or isopropyl to get any grease off
-Run the shower in a small bathroom on hot until the room is unbearably steamy
-Put on a hat to keep your hair and head funk from falling on the screen
-Line the protector up on the screen before removing the film and tape it on one side with a few pieces of Scotch tape
-Also make a "handle" out of tape to put on the top of the protector opposite the taped-down end. This will help with alignment
-Go into the bathroom and clean the screen with a good microfiber cloth. Also clean the front and back protective sheets on the film so there's no dust to come off when you start peeling them. The steam should be enough to wet it. Take one final look
-Peel the protector back and lay it down pulling the taped edge taut to keep it lined up
-Smooth any bubbles out with a credit card BEFORE peeling the top sheet off
IF you do have any dust, use a piece of tape on a corner to lift up the protector and another piece of tape to pick up the dust. If the room is steamy enough and you did a good job of wiping the screen this shouldn't happen.
Hey, noob here, I purchased an S3 with a cracked screen in order to replace it. Taking off the screen wasnt fun but my problem is that I didnt manage to leave the glue from the previous screen which, from what I have been reading, is necessary in order to keep the new screen sticking to the device. I called samsung but they could not help me with any work short of $170. Is there is anything on the market that can replace the glue?

It's not possible to have the screen exactly as before if you just remove the glass. You can order 2mm double sided tape by 3M which goes around the border of the glass. To get the adhesive between the glass and digitizer you would need to have it vacuumed in.
From personal experience I can tell you that your screen will still work, however there is a small space between the glass and digitizer. This does mean that the touchscreen isn't quite as responsive as it was before.
The only other option is buying the glass/digitizer/LED assembly, which is about $170 to buy. If you do choose this option you should pay a little extra and get the one that comes with the bezel and everything as it will save you a lot of time and messing around.
