I can not remove installed apps, have root acces with root explorer
I have root access, but can't change anything in /system
After 5 minutes of install:
Awesome, Seems no lagfix will be required.
Dident notice any difference from JPH
Will edit tomorrow after playing thoroughly!

when any rom just install it did not need lagfix, but later yes
It seems much better than JPH (which was unusually bad) - quite close to the performance I was getting with JP4, but slightly better.
I haven't applied any lag fix yet as it doesn't really seem necessary on these ROMS, but I'm going to give that a go later.
One word of warning though, JPH, JP4 and now JPK all hate corruption in user databases. If you're getting FCs / massive delays at startup, this is what will be causing it.

Me too
The Device is rooted, i get access with rootExplorer and can delete any App from system/apps but everything appears again immediately.
I wanted to uninstall the crappy Voice Dialer App. Because it is absolutely bad if i use my Helmet Headset on Bike and my BT Handsfree.
Voice Dialer starts and recognize NOTHING right. Even if i try to speek english.
In comparison. Voice Dialler on my Blackberry Bold 9700 works absolutely great and recognize also if i speek German. And it tells me who he dial before he do it.
Voice Dialler on Galaxy calls any Number (and in nearly 100% of trys the wrong) without any comment.
And.
Once again.
Since the first releases of Froy Samsung has broken the connection between Google Sync and third Party Apps. Specially Calendar Apps.
So also in this release.
All Tasks that are created with third Party Apps (Jorte, TouchCl .... ) Appears in Calendar on Device and ar dedicated to the right Google Calendar on Device. But not synced with Google.
After open, editing or new saving with Stock Calendar it will be synced.
This belongs to ALL Cal Apps i have tested!!!!!!!!
Absolutely bad (for me)

To keep this post useful try to specify ALWAYS what you flashed (odin version, pit verison, etc) and how you rooted the phone.
Moreover, report if you installed any other app, or had to restore nv_data, or made any other modification to stock system.
Lagfix is an absolute MUST. Anyone with more than 50 apps will need one sooner rather than later. Don't believe any clowns telling you otherwise. RFS is here to stay and RFS is nowhere near as good as ext4. The sooner Voodoo can get ported to Froyo the better!
Product code changed and the backup of the nv_data.bin is crap. Restoring it resulted in a corrupt imei! Needless to say I have multiple offline copies of the EFS files for this....
GPS is complete and total crap. While it does lock to many satellites and it does lock quickly it seems to have this nasty feature where it just 'assumes' where you are going to the point where if you stop abruptly it keeps on going. I also misses sharp turns etc. While you are going in a straight line it is almost spot on but I assume it outright 'lies' about the position in an effort to hide the lag. How else could one explain the other symptoms?
Generally JPK is usable but still very beta in a few places. I sure hope GPS goes back to what it is in JM8. I ran a few tracks with JM8 and it is almost always spot on and without any errors.
For those that have the issue: to edit things in /system it must be remounted rw......
Database and File system still very slow, quadrant score 992

Install Chainfire3d from the market and then open the app and tap to install the driver. I used the normal method not the advanced. Don't set any other settings after your phone reboots. You can if you want to but a lot of aps won't work with those settings.
What this app does is it installs an intermediate open GL driver between the apps and phone GPU driver to give you better performance.
Just figured I'll share it with everyone. It really made a difference for me on ICS speed. The way I see it it should be baked it to all ICS ROMs."

This actually 'seems' to work. Could be placebo but it certainly does feel as if animations and scrolling are smoother across the OS.
EDIT: After uninstalling the driver and testing the fluidity, and then reinstalling once again, it was just Placebo, no real difference.

I have installed and then deinstalled this ap and driver - and do not see any improvment, might be i am wrong, but those are my observations.

You're telling me you don't have the ROM in the root of your SD card? Just start over a reflash the ROM if you can't use your backup.
If not, mount DATA
open up command prompt (if you're using windows)
adb devices
adb push exactnameofromthatsinyourplatformtoolsfolder.ZIP /data/media
Since mount usb storage doesn't work (don't worry it's not just you) /data/media acts as a link to the SD card.
RESOLVED
This didn't seem to help me at all. Also seemed to make my battery drain faster, but what do I know.
Hi,
I'm trying to lock Contacts and Phone app to memory.
So they will start faster. I don't want to wait for them to open. ( Sometimes it tooks a long time )
If is there anyother way to do it but locking it ( like keeping it alive, running in backgorund or something ) i can try.
This is really important for me. I need to make calls fast.
Thank you so much for reading.

I researched some more and found this,
adb pull /init.rc
replace "setprop ro.HOME_APP_MEM ..." with:
setprop ro.HOME_APP_MEM 1536
adb push init.rc /sdcard/init.rc
adb shell
# mount -o remount,ro rootfs /
# cat /sdcard/init.rc | tee /init.rc
# mount -o remount,rw rootfs /
# rm /sdcard/init.rc
This code can lock Sense home to memory. Maybe someone with skill can change it for Contacts.apk ?
Use exDialer. It can be locked to memory, has smart search and looks like MIUI dialer.
It's a good solution.
But before i try those third-party contacts/phone apps i want to lock Sony's Original app to memory.
And i don't want to lock it with another app. I want to make lowmemorykiller see contacts app like system app and never touch it.
So, probably i need to use script or something. But it also should be permanent change, at least i don't want to do it after every reboot.
Thank you so much for answering

Exdialer will still SEMC phone to make calls. It's just an interface in between.
So locking THAT in memory won't help. Locking SEMCPhone is what you want for faster launches of the phone app.
The default dialer generally takes much time to start up. So suggested a 3rd party app for faster number dialing!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Exactly,
Exdialer is Contacts-like app. I need both of Contacts and SEMCPhone in memory.
If i won't find anything probably i will use ExDialer for Contacts app at least it will quicker to find Contacts.
But i also really need to lock SEMCPhone app to memory. That's the most important part. Because i can't use any third party app for this function. It have to be Sony's original ( im not sure btw )

The logs show that the script is run on restart, but it says
com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook
com.sonyericsson.infiniteview
com.android.phone
isn't running, can't bulletproof.
It looks like its run a bit too early?
I tried running it with the widget, it found phone and socialphonebook running, but never infiniteview.
Even on exiting a contacts details by pressing home and starting the script immideatly, it always said infiniteview isn't running, it seems to instantly close itself.
After it told be it bulletproofed phone and socialphonebook, I went to start a few apps/games, closed them again and tried starting contacts and open a contacts details:
contacts opening time varied between 3 and 12 seconds
contact info opening time varied between 2 and 8 seconds
I am certainly not getting the effect I hoped bulletproofing would give me, I hoped the startup times would be like you just closed contacts and reopened them:
contacts opening time varied between 1 and 1.5 seconds
contact info opening time varied between 1 and 1.5 seconds
Don't expect your phone to keep Phone and contacts in memory when trying to play games. Our phones do not have enough RAM to keep all of these loaded in there at once. Android has to close something in order to free up RAM and run the current app/game.

A bit of advice for people who are having this problem - I've "been there, cut that", and have to say that the whole "bulletproof" script nonsense is nothing more than a waste of time; it just doesn't work. I've tried every "ram manager" out there, and the only thing that has got me the result is the "Xposed Framework trick" (ICS/Jellybean only unfortunately).

Thanks for the input, but I actually finally got a working solution (as I told the member above) and that is the Xposed Framework App Settings method. I've tried probably half a dozen applications over the course of the years of my ownership of this device, and so far, Xposed App Settings has been the only thing that has had any effect. The only negative is that it does require ICS or Jellybean to install.
Spread the word, and good luck to everyone experiencing this issue.

Thank you so much for this hint, finally something that works :cyclops:
I changed
Contacts (com.sonyericsson.android.socialphonebook)
Infiniteview (com.sonyericsson.infiniteview)
Keypad (com.android.phone)
to resident and they actually stay in memory, even after starting games (not sure if keypad is needed, it isn't listed under running apps).
Infiniteview startup went from 3-7seconds to 0.5-1.5
Contacts behave strange:
If I exit contacts by pressing home key, they start in under 1 second (Android Core Apps are listed under its subprocesses)
if I exit contacts by back key, they need 3 seconds to start (just SmartSearchCachingService and Contacts itself under processes)
I seem to not be able to lock down android.process.acore with the xposed framework
first of all i love this forum SO much!
I have flashed different roms to find the one i like and im currently pretty content with leedroid (even though im not sure if a non sense rom would save more battery)... the thing is, i used miui for a while and loved the fact that it always asks you if you want an app to do a certain action like sending sms and making calls... im pretty paranoid about it and miui made me feel very safe. my question would be; is there a way to have this on other roms? i know Superuser asks you if you grant root access, but i couldnt find anything for sms and calls
thanks for your help, in advance
ps: this is what im talking about
Permissions Manager
The Permissions Manager is split into three sections, root permissions, permissions, and auto-start
Upon installation of an apk off your sdcard, you get asked to grant individual permissions, set "I trust this app," or the default setting will ask you as the app asks for each permission.

If you are really worried about security then MIUI is not the best rom for that.
sounds like over paranoia tbh
go to the general android forum and there is something called pdroid which depending on which ROM you have, will block apps from transmitting personal info such as IMEI numbers etc
MIUI isn't 'safe' just because it prompts you
personally it sounds like an annoying feature, much like user access control on Windows Vista (ignoring the fact that Vista was a poor attempt at an OS in its own right)

Hi guys, I'm writing in desperate need of help.
I've had this GNex for a little less than 2 years and it always worked great until January when I started to have a lot of problems and bringing it to the technical center at the end of March I found out it had major hardware problems, but luckly I still had the warranty back then.
Now, since more or less 3 weeks, it started out of the blue to have great slowing down problems: apps take a lot to open and are often unresponsive and when I tap the power button it takes up to 5 seconds to start the screen.
I don't have a lor of apps, but uninstalling some of them it seemed like it's a little faster.
BTW, if it matters, I've never flashed alternative ROMs, I've always been on stock, and now it's not even rooted.
Is there something that I can do without factory resetting?
I'd prefer to keep it as the last possible option, 'cause I've not much time in this period and it would be a mess having to install again all the apps and stuff.
Thanks
I've heard that our GNEX makes problems with less than 3 GB of free space . Look how much memory are still available on SD card.
Sorry for my English.
Having almost 8gb free I doubt this is the problem

there are also SO many advantages to at LEAST rooting the device.

well aside from the obvious (flashing/backups/unlocking) there are loads of useful apps in the Play Store that require root to help optimize the Android system. My favorites are Root Uninstaller and Disable Service. now, i know what im doing with these apps so they suit my needs pretty well and i havent broken anything (yet) but they are quite self explanitory. they both do pretty much the same thing, but on a different scale.
Root Uninstaller does just that...it allows you to uninstall ANYTHING from your device, including system apps that you normally wouldnt be able to. it also allows you to freeze apps or convert user apps (apps YOU installed) to system apps (this is very situational). it also reads your sdcard (internal in the case of the GNex) and finds apk's and can install them as well.
Disable Service is pretty much an advanced version of Root Uninstaller. it allows you to freeze/uninstall apps with the added ability to freeze any PROCESS that an app might run. for example, you could completely disable Bluetooth functionality (meaning any time you try to turn it on it just wont) or you can disable just Bluetooth file transfer. its really handy for showing what processes are running in the background and how many of them are from one app/how many that app can run. so, say you dont use an app feature but you still the app. fine, disable just that feature. its not TOO terribly complicated to understand as long as you know what does what, but hopefully i described it well enough.
basically what im getting at is these apps can free up so much memory/RAM by disabling/uninstalling apps or processes that run in the background when you just dont want them to with the ability to unlock them when you do.
then there is Titanium Backup. if you dont know what this app is, or never heard of it, you must live under some damn large rocks lol
lastly, using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit you can root your phone in quite literally 30 seconds...just sayin >_<

Yeah, I well know that, before I had to bring it to the technical service it was rooted.
Thanks for the suggestions, while I know very well Titanium (it saved mt life more than once), I've never heard of the other apps you mentioned, so I'll try them.
I just runned Smart Booster and I'm totally amazed, the phone is way smoother, I hope it'll last.
I think that now I'll root time, I just have one last question: if I well remember to root I need to have the phone unlocked (the tech service locked it again), will it wipe it?

Unlocking the bootloader will wipe everything on the phone. Use helium to backup apps and then backup everything to your computer.

Yes unlocking bootloader to root has always been the only way for Nexus devices and it will definitely wipe everything!
So, AT&T has started rolling out the Lollipop (5.0.1) update. I have yet to receive it. Guys/gals, please start posting your findings if you have already updated.
its taking forever to download!!
Lost blocking mode. Now you have to make a list to block numbers versus just blocking all numbers not on my contacts.
Edit: It has been changed to "do not disturb mode"
I'd be curious to know if ES File Explorer can write to the SD card in this update, if anyone gets a chance to try it.

Has the developer updated the app to write to SD card for Lollipop?
I know that when I was using ART runtime on kitkat, I had to wait a little while before booting in order to compile the apps. I guess they made ART more efficient because it no longer takes a lot of time to compile apps when rebooting. We also lost the ability to switch between dalvik and ART. I think its just ART now.

Yes they have, I was just not certain if Samsung and AT&T had done anything to screw with this functionality.
I'm have thinking about buying this phone. Is the recent app button lag still there? Does lollipop feel smoother or about the same? Thanks

i've only been using it for a few hours and so far it doesnt feel that much different (performance-wise). The recent app button is pretty quick, now. There's always going to be a bit of lag as it needs to pull in the recent apps list but i just tested it and it was only about 1 sec with about 5 apps listed.
I do know this . first couple problems I had to do 2 battery pulls . I had a lot of force closes issues . google launcher kept FCing . also , using recent apps button cause it to freeze up . After my battery pulls , no problems . Also , tested GPS and everything works still. Woohoo !
Just finished restarting.
Recent apps is definitely faster, though there just a bit of a lag. Haven't had a chance to really do anything else, though I really wasn't expecting much of a change under the hood for 5.0.
Now we can disable many apps that we cant on kk without a computer or a program like evernote...

Yes, it works
Smart Lock is under Security and Trust Agents. No Trusted Face though
Thanks, guys, for checking that for me!
Ambient Display
I'm disappointed to find that they didn't include Ambient Display. Is there somewhere I'm not looking? That was one of the big reasons I wanted this update.

in SECURITY, scroll to the very bottom.
I found that there is a setting to turn KNOX on and off under security settings On my sm-n910a. The knox setting is off by default, and my phone is noticeably faster.
I did the update from Kit-Kat (With ART Enabled). And it was worlds faster. Specially opening my 1500+ picture gallery.
After that I did a system reset just to start fresh, But even without that it was way faster.
Haven't had any crashes or force closes. And it looks better. So far I'm very happy with the update.
Everything looks the same(even the Settings tab, location tabs....) beside feeling a bit snappier. No fc yet
