oh, another 2.1 sense rom cooked up.
Well it's good to see that your release notes are clear and professional!
I'll try this out. Are you certain that you've thanked (and asked permission of) everyone who's work you used though? I'm certain you based your deodexed content off of an existing rom, it would just be too much work to do yourself again, but I think a thank you could maybe go out to that source as well. Edit: Maybe the kitchen supplies you with the stuff I'm asking about, so you probably already did thank the right person if that's true
cheers, looking forward to trying it out
edit: wait, where's the rom itself LoL. I must have missed something Is this a vaporware rom? ;-)
looks cool

u have already been rude -.-" no one ask you to try it.
you can don't even click in & read it as this post topic was ROM 2.1 sense.
as for all 2.1 rom out there having an issue that people didn't notice or don't even bother as they don't use it. so i gave up asking.
it's the call during BT media, when there is a call in while you listening to mp3 it will either dc the BT or you unable to hear or the person who call you unable to hear you through BT handfree mic. only able to use your mobile mic to talk. it's kinda wierd while you using BT handfree & hold your phone & talk in public.
i've been asking about this issue on a lot rom build post but people seem to ignore me as if my post/reply was not there at all.
as for this rom i have not try yet. hopefully it solve my problem.

edit: oh~ btw your rom was smooth/fast/stable just like villainrom12 =) & good choice of kernel by erasmux! hope for app2sd.

Sorry for being so late. I've been extremely busy recently..

I've made a new update.zip
This is 98% identical with the original Voodoo lagfix-only 3.0.
the only differences are
1. loading modules on booting.
2. using stock JM8 kernel
Thanks ^^
# to users who are using the previous voodoo-with-stock kernels
-> Overwrite it!
##########
THANK YOU SUPERCURIO!!!!!
##########
### EDIT ###
1. updated JM9 support!!
2. FroYo JPM support : just remove the ".zip" at the end (Only for Odin flashing at the moment)
Sound interesting.
What about Benchmarking and battery life?
Thanks for developing.
Quadrant scores? Pros and Cons over VooDoo??
How did you modify the JM8 kernel? I thought we were limited to using the source provided by Samsung for the kernel (which is probably not the exact same as the ones used in its firmwares). Anyway, great work! Off to read more about NILFS2 now

He found a nice way to modify kernels. He has a post up on it earlier.
Any chance for a JH2 or JM5 kernel as well? Preferably with EXT4! I don't like NILFS2 myself, since it feels sluggish.

This is great news. Could you post a version that uses EXT4 with the JM8 kernel please? I'd like to use the stock kernel rather than one compiled from source like in voodoo because I assume it's better optimised. Could you also post the files you used and some instructions on how you did it? I'd like to have a look at how it's implemented. Thanks!

So this is only a repacked zImage with nilfs2.ko kernel module? To compile the kernel module you still need the kernel sources, right? Just asking because you mentioned in your last thread (if i remember right) that you are working on a froyo version...

Ah! Awesome! I must've missed thar thread.
Been using this for the past 2 hours, and the phone is flying! Sure I get a low Quadrant score but my phone has never been this fast and responsive. I must say, it's even faster than the ext4 voodoo fix.
But does it keep taking "snapshots" every now and then or have you disabled this feature? 'Coz I wouldn't want excessive reads and writes on my internal sd unnecessarily. I had low expectations for this fix considering the snapshot "feature" of the filesystem and the benchmark posted earlier in this thread, but now I'm amazed by how fast this is!
On rfs, loading apps like xda or gallery for the first time resulted in 3-4 seconds of black screen. With ext4 voodoo, about 1 second for xda and 3-4 seconds for gallery. But now with this one, xda opens up instantly and the gallery loads up within a second! Very impressed I am. Thanks for the wonderful work

Emm, is initramfs_data.cpio.zip the update.zip ? Cos from what I understand its not. Than where the original file is?
Never mind, managed to look at it just as it was reuploaded =)
So, should it be alright to disable voodoo, flash any other kernel (to remove lagfix), remove disabling file, flash your kernel?
EDIT2. Do you mind uploadng the stock JM8 kernel for reverting, since you have it?

This kernel is a new one with the recovery STEAM insteaod of the normal one, it support a lot of options, take a look
to use it:
apply extract the zip and apply the tar in odin as pda or also extract the tar and apply the zimage as kernel with heimdall
NOTE this is for the 2 froyo roms i know
EDIT:
V2
This is the v2 version, not many changes but from the SpeedMod Kernel by hardcore i used:
* Optimized compiler flags: -mcpu=cortex-a8 -mfpu=neon -mfloat-abi=softfp -fno-gcse -fprefetch-loop-arrays --param l2-cache-size=512 --param l1-cache-size=64 --param simultaneous-prefetches=6 --param prefetch-latency=400 --param l1-cache-line-size=64
Also there are some memory twaks from that thread, i got 334 of total RAM, please check your SGS before flahsing because by mistake i didnt and now im not sure if it did any change
CHECK camera/vide/radio/tv/games
PD i added ext4 and JFS, but i did not tested them
No go and thank him an zstupy for this great work

Is it a fully working Steam??? I will surely try if it is.
i tryed some options and it worked, testing is welcome
Does it replace the CWM? Does it have all the basic CWM functions working? To go back, can we just flash another kernel with CWM or we need to flash a whole ROM?
I guess if you have a 'what's working' list & a 'to-do' list, we can start testing it.

Seriously forget about BLN & other petty stuff. Go ahead and make a working STEAM KERNEL..
PS : This is some real good work.
PS2 : You need to put a BOUNTY on it.
PS3: checkout & rename your [ALPHA] to a version # looks good on the Title.
im not doing a lot of improvements, im working on some ideas on the work other ppl does for the other SGSs versions and thinks i would like, like this steam kernel
it is my V3 base kernel, it has tinyRCU, ondemand scheduler and BFQ sched
there is NO BLN because it caused problems with a2dp audio
Will keep a watch on this thread.

<----- looks at his thanks meter & smiles,
Can we make the conversion to ext 2, 3 or 4 with this Steam Kernel?
And, it's too complicated to have some overclocking room on near future with this kernel? Like something to make easy to overclock with Set CPU and some setcpu.txt files?
Thanks, Luis! You're one of the most active developers to I9000B and we all should be completely thankful to you!
Keep with the good work! Congrats!
Ok. Running on JFS and everything seems to be ok and pretty fast till now. About 1500 on Quadrant and, just to mention, I've made a full conversion without backup. Wiped out everything to be sure if anything goes wrong it's not caused by apps and past configurations. Missed the ext4 conversion to test. Not tested ext2.

Oh well...
I'm still running everything on JFS and it's pretty fast and smooth, without bugs as I could see. But after some research found that it could be interesting to put /cache and/or /system to ext2. Anyone already tried this? It really should make some difference?
Thanks! And c'mon! Wake up, people! This is one of the best kernels we have to our i9000B! Let's give some feedback!

For those of you that want to get in on early GB development but don't have the skill to compile it from source, I compiled the new source code that dropped for the gingerbread build for the Sprint Tab. This is NOT an installable rom. This is a zip containing the compiled AOSP kernel and system, purely for research/development purposes. Download, unzip and play. I doubt this will boot on a CDMA device without the proper bootloaders, but you're welcome to try. You can even develop AOSP roms from it that will probably run on your tab after the update on the 5th. Enjoy.

a working 2.3 rom means the following for cdma tabs:
1.working skype video calls!
2.Working hulu!
3. Last but not least, Working Netflix!
it would make the tablet experience so much better for us CDMA owners.
i want to be the first to make a bug list on the first dev to release a rom
it would be a honor
and glad to see you finally posting something space. you have been in hiding so long, you rival osama lol

I guess I should add: you'll need the driver libs to get this running... you'll have to gank what you can from the gsm GB build. Stuff in /system/lib/hw and /system/lib/egl and so on. Just compare and you will get the idea.

I hope it's useful. Sadly, the proprietary files weren't included in the source, so of course you'll have to patchwork from other builds or wait until the official release for some of those.
You're welcome though, glad to be of service.

Yeah, I just noticed that, no EGL, etc. Maybe they put this stuff in /vendor now?
I just redid my Tab. I'm ready for Gingerbread on this *****.
It seems OTA may be pushed to some users now. Anyone care to rip all the files in /system and post them?

Open adb shell and run this:
tar -czvf /mnt/sdcard/system_dump.tar.gz /system/
it will create file system_dump.tar.gz in on your sdcard with the contents of your factoryfs (system) partition.
alright! So when my update comes i will do just that and put it on my dropbox, providing you a download link!

Would the .zip update file help? I've got that posted on mediafire (as i just a little bit ago got the notice for an update. If it'll help, here's the link.
http://www.mediafire.com/?cngx5e67dgbq04y
Otherwise i'll get the update installed and see about running the sys dump as well.

has anyone tested this? i don't wanna brick my tab!
I've got it up and running on my tab and there's at least 1 other person from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148447 that has it up and running as well.. Odin'd back to stock EA24, did the OTA EB28, and then ran the update.zip from stock recovery. All is happy on my tab. Now I just have to wait till i'm at work tomorrow to get ADB to work, and I'll dump /system.
Hey guys!
i am very new at this but i have ported a build from fascinate over to our continuum and am looking for some devs to jump in and start helping me fix stuff.
this is very early but you can grab my first port here.
it is very much not ready for every day use.
Please flash if you are going to help me fix this for everyone
Code:
[B]
Rap sheet of things to fix will be here:
Screen placement overlaps the ticket screen, i was thinking we could
somehow code this thing so it will ignore the ticker
screen and only use the top.
Also we need to enable the soft keys.
Keyboard is non existent.
phone is not functional yet.[/B]
Well since this phone is virtually Unbrickable.... why not try our best.

thanks for the well wishes... anyone know where to go in the rom to edit the screen dimentions yknow so it uses the top screen only? i think this is kernal
yea the problem with ports on the continuum is u cant flash mtd files in recovery a friend and i tried to port the fascinate miui 2.3.2 rom to the continuum we got everything resised and made it flashable but it just said installation aborted. the fascinate can flash mtd files straight from recovery and the continuum can not.
i still have all the files for miui if someone wants them pm me the problem is converting it to a .tar file so we can install via odin.

mtd files? what's those for? the above build was ported from a fascinate rom. very asop
most roms use mtd sum to install everything im not going to go into detail about everything because i would just sound like an idiot lol.

sure, gimme a few and i'll update post 1, last night late i posted it with minimal info then went to bed...
alright here goes nothin im going to see what happens lol
The demensions seem to be within the framework, or at least the call to the kernel for the screen size..
So porting it is pointless, because you'll have to modify the framework back to the continuum's which would defeat the point...
As far as I think/know
That is actually why I stopped
But, feel free to prove/show me up

it does boot but i couldnt even get to settings and about phone to tell what it was and he still hasnt updated the op yet.
Yeah, i know it boots, haha.. I did this like two months ago
But the screen isn't divided properly for the ticker/softkeys... And won't be unless you can find the right part to edit
What language are we talking about? If it's Java I'm happy to help.

From what I have seen, in other posts about other phones, the screen size is written into the kernel. So, to do this, we need the source code for the kernel.
joshkoss: Great effort, but to do any serious mods, we must have the kernel source code. Without that, there is no way to compile the fixes/changes into the kernel. I have been able to use modprobe to do a few things, but, generally, the modules must be compiled against the source code of the kernel to work properly.
If someone can get us the kernel source code, we will be golden... Up until then, porting anything is not going to be fun.
If one was REALLY interested in doing this, one would take the generic Gingerbread kernel and ROM and work a build from the ground up that way. Especially since I don't think Samsung, nor Verizon will be handing out the kernel source code.
There is an off chance that Samsung might give the Continuum kernel source code to a developer AFTER Verizon sunsets this phone... (It's a very remote chance...)
Verizon gave me this number for the Samsung Mobile Helpline: (888) 987-4357. I haven't called them yet, but if enough of us call, someone MIGHT be able to knock something loose... Who knows. Let me know if I can help... This phone is my only phone, so I can't go flashing it every night to try things, but, over the weekend, I can try things.
Ciao!
I agree...collectively we should be capable of anything...even gettn sammy source...sumhow
sent from my XDA phone - its more than a continuum
I for one think y'all can do anything. Y'all have already done so much and I really think y'all are on to something huge!
