Depends.
If you have the insurance, you have a $100 deductible.
If not, you probably have to buy yourself a new phone.

i have insurance... well im evoless forever now guys mom wont pay..... smh
Have your misses pay. Determine which screen you need, then look on ebay or elsewhere. I've read it's not that difficult to replace.
First of all, to buy the parts would be almost $100 anyway, so there's no point to investing the time to fix it yourself (except maybe to save a FEW bucks). Second of all, if you have the insurance, I'm pretty sure there's no deductible for replacing the screen. The $100 should be for a stolen/lost/water damaged phone, or basically anything that can't be fixed, in which case they simply replace it. The screen is replaceable, and thus should not have a deductible. At least that's the way my local Sprint store explained it. Go to a Sprint store and find out for yourself. You may be pleasantly surprised.
What parts are needed for screen replacement? The screen I found is only 45.
Also can you add insurance to your phone after it breaks as long as they don't know?

Technically yes, but they might find it funny that just got insurance and now have a claim. But they will honor it still.

Are you sure about this I looked on Sprints site and they said you can get it within 30 days of purchasing your phone.
You have 30 days from the date you purchased the phone to apply for insurance. But FYI, if you dont have it now, dont add it then make a claim the next day. You need to wait at least a few weeks, or they will deny your claim.

That's the exactly point I was trying to make.
well there's a couple of things going on here
1) Yes, there is a $100 deductible if you have insurance. A couple of weeks ago it would've been fixed free of charge but, Sprint did a "revision" to the new TEP policy and they're no longer covered
2) It's about the same to fix the screen yourself and to have it replaced through insurance with deductible, give or take a couple of dollars.
3) You can add insurance after 30 days if you speak to a cool rep, and make the claim within days, again if you speak to a cool rep.
4) That sucks!!
So last night I dropped my launch day EVO and cracked it. Brought to independent store just now and they said they can't fix it. Told to go to corporate store or file insurance.
CS guy on phone with Sprint told me it wasn't physically possible to change screen...lying &*&^(*&.
I DO NOT WANT REFURB!! Just my screen fixed! Will the corporate store do this or will I get runaround again???
i took my phone to a corp store when it had white spots on the screen. in about 45 mins i had my phone back with a new screen and cover installed
Corp store will be the same unfortunately. Ill fix it if you're from south Texas

lol.....I remember that thread. Funny stuff.
OP: I'm looking at my cracked screen right now. I actually started a similar thread recently because I couldn't find the housing anywhere but found it minutes after I posted the thread. I bought this for $34 including Priority Mail:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220671323934&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I bought this for $25 shipped so I can replace this at the same time and have my phone looking new again:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190476872380&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
And I plan on following this to do it myself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwDysxiiYu8
It's costing me $40 less than my deductible with Asurion and I also don't want a refurb nor do I want to start over with my phone. The digitizer comes with peelable tape and the adhesive already on it, so no mission there. If you feel like this is something you can do, then here's something to think about.

Yep. Broken screens can only be handled by Asurion, who doesnt fix phones, they replace them. If you dont want a different phone, then dont drop it.

This is true...they won't do anything for me. I went to corporate store and they won't budge. I am really mad. Terrible (change in) policy for Sprint especially since I KNOW they were replacing screens not too long ago and I was told my screen could be replaced with TPE in the past. All of a sudden I can't.
I have apps in development/testing on my phone and I would really prefer not to have to switch phones. It seems so easy to just replace the freakin screen and that is what makes this so frustrating.
Thanks to the poster who posted the "do it yourself" route but I would prefer to not have to go through all that myself...I would prefer to spend that time developing apps and spending time with my family.
Instead it looks like I am going to have to pay $100 for a pos refurb that I will have to start all over on.
To the poster I am replying to...I have protected this thing from day one but accidents happen. Mine just happened 1 month too late apparently.

You know I watched the video and looked at the components...I think I might try it. So it is for sure just the digitizer and not the lcd?
Contemplating my next move. Still pissed at Sprint though!!!!!!
The digitizer is not as easy as it looks which is why I took the route of installing the digitizer preinstalled to the LCD. FYI I bought it from gadget fix too

Yup.....the LCD screen is a separate piece from the LCD. I'm going to try it. Worse case scenario, I can always claim the phone if I can't put humpty dumpty back together again. If you can deal with the screen as is for a bit, I plan on coming back here to post my results for everyone's reference.

Why do you say that? I'm diving head first into this as soon as the parts arrive, so if you know of any hardships that come with installing the digitizer, let me know. From the video, it seems pretty straight forward.

It is was very hard to get the screen to sit at the perfect height, it was to close to the LCD causing a water effect. also if you don't get it right the first time, the tape that is included, if you could call it that, is not reusable, since you already ought it for 35 or whatever you said theres no point in my advice now but for anyone in the future, find out what LCD you motherboard takes and save yourself a bunch if time and stress by just doing a LCD and digitizer together replacement. My two cents
You're pissed at Sprint because YOU broke YOUR screen? Hardly seems fair.
I posted this in another thread, I'll post it here too:
The $35 repair fee does cover exchanges or repairs without insurance. However, the policy was slightly modified as of Feb 1st. Any LCD/lens/digitizer with multiple cracks or a single crack longer than 1 inch is considered damaged beyond repair (DBR). An insurance claim would have to be filed. If the digitizer simply stops functioning, it can still be replaced under insurance or the $35 repair fee.
For those that would want to do the repair themselves, be warned. There are two different types of Evo screens. One made by Sharp and one made by AUO. They are not interchangeable.

The policy changed due to abuse. Customers were coming in for 3 and 4 screen replacements because they kept butterfingering their phones. It got so bad that Evo screens were backordered throughout the entire company at one point a few months ago.

No, what hardly seems fair is that when I got the TPE replacing the screen was INCLUDED IN THE AGREEMENT. On top of that people with the same plan same insurance same everything had their screen replaced FOR FREE just last month. But for some reason I have to submit a $100 claim and recieve a refurb. That is why I am pissed at Sprint not because I broke my phone. I admit it is my fault that I broke the screen but Sprint changed the rules in the middle of the game and Sprint is treating me different than other customers who pay and have the exact situation that I do. NOW THAT HARDLY SEEMS FAIR.
I would be willing to pay extra on top of the insurance and everything else I pay for to have the screen replaced but it is no longer possible to have the screen replaced NO MATTER WHAT.

I agree with this. I told them I would bring the parts in myself and they could charge me for labor and they said they were "not allowed" to touch my phone because it had physical damage......even if I wanted to pay for it.
So guys with the EVO 3D coming out soon, will sprint let us trade our EVOs in? If they do let us, how much would it approx. cost?
I heard they would do and even swap AND give you $50 for your trouble!
Well in theory yes, but it it supposed to be around june/july so I don't know when your upgrade would expire.
Well until this, I will keep the unrooting threads handy before i trade in :]
Does anyone have solid reports?
No, there won't be any trade in. Just the usual upgrade stuff if you're eligible. They do have a program where you can sell your phone back to them, but they don't pay well.
Nothing special for the Evo itself.
They'll be happy to let you trade in your smartphone per their recycling program for $15. Haha.
Why not?^^,you can do that!
Oh man, i was looking forward to trading it in.

All ya gotta do is throw your evo in the toilet and call them up, pay them the 100(assuming you have it), then when they ask what phone you would like to replace your evo say the 3d and I think you'll have to pay the difference in the phones but this rate it would save you 2-3 hundred dollars.

But what about things you cannot account for? What if someone stole it in public? Are you telling me you never take your phone out in public? Careful as you may be, someone could always be walking by, and of course you wouldn't think anything of it because there are humans that live on this planet, snatch your phone, and run away. Hell, these days, he could have his friend waiting for him in a car to take him away and you'll never see your precious phone again.
As for loss, you never forget anything? Ever?
And damage, you never ever make mistakes? Ever?
Apparently, you are perfect and my arguments are null. My apologies.
All kidding aside, it's best to plan for the unexpected, and save yourself several hundred dollars. You'd have paid about $70 at this point for insurance on it, $100 for the replacement. $170 vs $500. I think the choice is obvious.
EDIT: That was a little harsh and rude. My bad.

Yeah, they'll certainly stand by that "equal or lesser value" clause that I'm sure is in the contract somewhere (I didn't read it!), regardless of the money you'll fork over to "pay the difference." As far as Asurion is concerned, you have a contract with them regarding an HTC EVO 4G, not an EVO 3D. They will do their best to provide you with the best quality (which they dictate) replacement of the phone you are in a contract with them regarding.
If you want an EVO 3D, you'll be dealing with Sprint, not Asurion.

It's okay, but if my phone was ever jacked i would use seekdroid, or Where's My Droid. Even if they pull the battery, they eventually will boot it. But nothing really ever happens in jersey where i live. Until i head out to the real world, I'll just be a 17 year old private high school boy.
Still pretty risky to not have insurance, it will make sense later in life

well im already pissed because i dropped it January and the screen broke. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT i didnt have to pay anything they just got me a new one with no fees or anything. The person i talked to said that in January they used the manufacturers warranty to replace the screen and now apparently it's not covered..... Also how would i trade it for an evo 3d!?
They'll just say well why are you just bringing it in now, a month later? Also it'll be SO much more suspicious that it 'hasn't been working for a month' right after they said it'd cost 100$ to get it repaired, and mroe of a fact why didn't you say it was faulty then? Though it'll default to the drop that cracked the screen > broke the usb port > 100$ fix.
Ever heard the phrase "you break it, you buy it"? Guess what, you broke it. Now grow up & buy it.
If you don't want to spend the $100 for a replacement, you can try to fix it yourself. It'll still cost you, but not as much. It doesn't matter what else is wrong with the phone, you're going to have to pay the deductible since the screen is cracked, If you can't afford it, borrow someone's old flip phone or something.

Ok so I flashed a ROM for an International Galaxy S3 and I have a Sprint Galaxy S3.
The ROMs I found all being on the same forum really messed with my head...
But it will not do anything. The screen is black. If i plug it in nothing happens. If i press buttons nothing happens.
If I take it to Sprint do you think they will be able to get it to work again?
They won't be able to check if i am rooted since it doesnt show anything...
I already looked at the whole JTAG REPAIRs everywhere and I dont want to pay 60$ to fix my phone if Sprint can do it for free
Also I dont want to buy a USB JIG either.
I got this phone couple months back by the way
Sprint won't do it for Free if you are out of warranty. Maybe $35 with luck, $150 if you have TEP.
But you can try... Play the "it just stop working" game.

The primary option you're looking for is a JTAG repair.
I believe you can purchase the materials yourself to do it, but if I've read correctly, you'd most likely have to solder stuff to other stuff (technical answer, I know!).
If you don't mind paying someone to repair it, you might want to try out Mobile Tech Videos. I haven't used their services personally and their website looks a bit on the low-budget end of the spectrum, but other XDA members have gone to them and they gave them a positive review.

I'm gonna stick with what The Root said, and say the following:
You done messed up, son. You flashed a ROM knowing full well that there was a chance it'd brick your phone. Now it's bricked because you didn't read all the information available to you. To expect Sprint to pay for your mistake is, if I may be frank, irresponsible. I know $60 may be a lot to some people, but you were messing around with a $500 piece of technology. But I'd say it'd be much better to take this situation as a learning experience, and in the future you'll never brick your phone again because you'll make sure to do 3 or 4 google searches and really do your due diligence before flashing something on your phone.

I'm gonna stick with what The Root said, and say the following:

For what it's worth, I just paid the $150 TEP on my phone because I was trying to upgrade my TWRP to 2.4.2.0 and something happened that caused me to brick my phone. I know lots of people have said 'Oh, just go in and they'll do a factory replacement' but honestly you can get a phone the next day if you pay the fee.

Yes, but that's a bit different than "wondering if sprint would do it for less to nothing $"

That's my point.........just accept that you screwed up and pay the consequences of your actions.

Wait what you are saying is I can just take it into the sprint store and I'll get a new phone the next day? Yes I know it is really irresponsible but like other people I have seen, we got confused with how the rooms are placed on the threads I am not saying that I will just give sprint my phone and make them suffer for my mistakes, but I was just asking

What I was saying is that if you file a replacement claim with Assurion, then they'll overnight you a phone.

It depends. Do you pay the monthly TEP fee for your phone? If you're enrolled in the program (and pay the monthly fee), you can walk into a store and (for most situations) get a new (or most-likely refurbished) phone the same or next day (for the low, low cost of the $150 deductible). Typically no questions asked.

They can't give you a new one, they can only send you the 'certified replacements'......it has to do with agreements they have with Samsung. You can get a swapped brand spanking new one provided you are within the 14 day post purchase window.

Ah, I stand corrected. Also, I just remembered that you don't have to go into the store, just file a claim online.
I have only used the TEP once (for my old EVO 4G). Do you have to return the old phone?

Yeah....but when they ship you the replacement phone, they also ship you the pre-paid envelope to ship back the defective device.

You mean to go to the store and just pretend I don't know what happened? How much would the deductible be? I do not have TEP... If it is more than 60$ then might as well get it repaired in that one JTAG REPAIR website

They're not going to be able to fix it. JTAG might be your best option.
