Now that FroYo is out from Orange UK, Can I restore my debranded desire be revetered to stock so I can get it replaced for one that doesn't overheat when it feels like it...?
I dont think so no as the Orange UK RUU hasn't been leaked

Couldn't someone save the OTA update, then I flash it to my phone?
No, as you need to be on an Orange ROM to get it. You're going to have to wait and hope the Orange 2.2 RUU is leaked...
Can a unbranded unlocked phone be reverted to stock state for warranty purposes? This problem primarily effects branded phones?

If you have the stock ROM. Orange UK RUUs have never been leaked so until they are there's no way of doing so
I'm not sure they're that savvy on checking. I sent my black (you can only get them from Orange) Desire back to Orange after it started overheating; I'd debranded it and put 2.2 on (before it was out here). I just described my overheating problem and the guy sent me another one, next day couriered, no eyebrows raised.

But that shouldn't be accepted as the norm as technically you've invalidated the warranty. They should've told you where to go in all honesty
Indeed, just thought I'd share. I took the gamble they'd have heard the problem before and just shoot me another one. I believe you get refurb though (this one was immaculate). I didn't want to wait for HTC to fix it.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's very likely that if you kicked up a fuss you would have your warranty honoured on a debranded phone, since it's unmodified official software. It's a good idea to get an email from your network confirming that they will honour the warranty before you debrand, or you might be better off sending it to HTC directly for a repair.
At the end of the day if Orange piss me off over something so trivial then they will lose a cunstomer.. I know that, they know that... that's why we all get along
If someone has a nandroid backup of a rooted 2.1 orange uk stock can you upload it for us.
You might want to flash it and clear data to get rid of any personal data then make a new nand backup that is safe to share.
If you are kind enough to do so we can update ota to stock 2.2 for warranty purposes if we flash this...I think.
I agree with mercinary if someone could do that it'd be great.

Just upload the nand backup on multiupload and we will sort out the rest.
Don't forget to reset it to factory settings before uploading.
Just do this
Nand backup your current rom.
Restore stock backup.
Clear data/factory reset. Do this to clear your private data.
Nand backup this new clean rom.
Zip it all up and upload it to multiupload (you don't need to register with this site.
Copy the link multiuplad gives you and post it here.
Restore the nand backup you made of your current rom.
Receive many thanks from many happy people.
Thanks
yes many thanks
Right I'll do that now for you guys.
Here it is http://www.multiupload.com/ATSGUBVLQY
It does have the older software version though (1.15.61.10). So you will need to wait for HTC to release the newer version (1.22.61.1). Anyways I hope this works for you. Tell me if it does
Has no one tried this yet? D:
Trying now. Will let you know when I'm successfull

I know its been asked but the answers are very fragmented, so my question is:-
If I'm on Orange, and I've not rooted or unrooted or whatever, do I have to wait for the Desire update, then HTC to play, Then Orange to play?
If so how long is this gonna take from when the Froyo for Desire update is released?
Please dont drag this thread into a when is Froyo gonna be released debate as thats why I'm hvaing to create a new thread in the first place.

as a rule HTC generally dont release there standard update in a region untill all of there branded roms are ready too atleast that was one of the reasons htc gave for the late hero eclair update
I am in exactly the same position as you. I have a unrooted, Ornage branded Desire and I really want Froyo asap.#
Will I get it OTA or will I have to wait for Orange or should I just de-brand and get it OTA?
I have no idea..

That makes no sense to me. All firmware updates are ota, regardless on branding. Non branded phones tend to get sent first. All depends what your carrier has added to the phone.
Prime example: T-Mobile delayed the initial release of Desires because they fecked up their phones with **** they added.

The point is, even if there is an Froyo OTA update for our phones I might not get mine as it's branded to Orange for another few months...
Here is a another thing - as I have an Orange Desire (no modifications - i.e. not flashed and no custom rom), can I unlock the phone from something like HTCCODE and update to Froyo using the official HTC OTA sometime this weekend?
.....but I'm guessing it's not as simple as that?

You'd only have to make a goldcard and flash with a WWE ROM. It'll take about 30 minutes all told.
Question what do you guys understand by branded Orange phone? My Orange Desire has an official HTC ROM if I'm not mistaking, when I open my phone it's load screen says HTC and I don't have any Orange menus or **** on it, it's only network lock. Now the real question will I get the update or not? THX.

My phones locked to orange using a custom 2.1 Rom. Ive avoided changing to 2.2 as it is locked to orange so cant flash the radio. Does the OTA release upgrade the radio and as such will this activate the sim lock?
oh not bad!
Hopefully this should make it clear to everyone....
If you're on an Orange branded ROM, you will not get this update until Orange has fannied around making all of its useless, proprietary junk applications compatible with Froyo. That could take weeks, but will likely take months.
To get this OTA update as soon it's released:
Make a goldcard and insert it into your phone.
Flash a stock rom using an RUU executable (1.15 NOT 1.21)
Wait for HTC to release the update.
In theory, it should be possible to get hold of the new ROM before the mass rollout once someone has captured the link to the file on HTC's servers. This is work in progress (See dev section). As soon as that is found, it will be rooted and posted for mass consumption on this forum.
langers1 mentioned flashing radios causing a simlock on Orange devices. Flashing the 5.09 radio does not cause this problem. I and many others have shown this to be the case.

Really?
If I updated my radio and for whatever reason it did simlock, could I flash my radio back to an older one to unlock it, or would I need to pay to get an unlock code?

What do these different radio versions mean?
By the power of Grayskull......
I will have the (FroYo) Power!!!
I am planning to root my Orange branded Desire, cos I am not prepared to wait for Orange to release the OTA for Froyo in their own sweet time.
There is just one thing I dont understand. If I root, my version stays at 2.1.
I plan to then load a custom ROM, with A2SD, etc as Android 2.2.
But what if I decide I dont want it any more and I want to go back to my original software?
I have seen stock ROM's but Orange's ROM isnt there. How do I turn my own ROM into a recoverable ROM?
I have spent all day looking through XDA, modaco and google for answers....
Or am I missing something really obvious?
Thanks
Andy
I made a slight oversight in my post above. We're not yet sure, but it could be the case that you have to be running a 1.21 ROM in order to receive the Froyo update. However, the 1.21 OTA update comes with a radio which DOES cause a simlock on Orange devices.
However, I believe that there are 1.21 ROMs available in stickies on this forum that don't have a radio update bundled. Flashing one of these would be the best option for unrooted Orange users to get the update ASAP. It's unlikely that the 5.09 radio will cause problems for those with rooted Desires, so that should be ok too.
However, it's likely that the update will be bundled with a new version of HBOOT which could make rooting impossible. Only get the update OTA if you're sure you'll never want to root your Desire. I for one will be waiting for someone here to patch the update with SU permissions
@stats101
Radios are software packages that interface between your specific phone's hardware and Android OS. Think of them as driver bundles.
@langers1
Glad to be of help
I have a rooted HTC Desire on orange. When Orange finally release FroYo will I be able to update it on my saved orange backup or will I not be able to update as there is no way of returning to the stock orange ROM.
If it was an unrevoked3 root and you backed it up without changing anything you may be able to apply the update, but there's a good chance of it not working.
Aww typical will there ever be an RUU for Orange UK?
None so far... maybe the froyo one will get leaked.
I hope it does as I want froyo but I dont want to have to unbrand incase of warranty issues.
Ask Orange if they will honour a warranty if you flash the phone with unmodified official HTC software. They should, but check.
Why do you think it has been harder for the Orange RUU to be leaked but not the O2 or vodafone one?
Why not just debrand via goldcard and update to Froyo?

You should check that with Orange... they may well do, as long as it's not rooted.
Yea I will check with them. I'd still rather have the phone unrooted and on orange but i guess I will need to wait.
the phone is unlocked but branded so i just wanted to unbrand it. i was looking for stock orange rom incase if anything goes wrong i can just restore it but sadly i couldnt find it anywhere.

also if i root and get a gold card etc will i be able to just install it using the unbranded .exe file? because in one of the sticky posts i read that it wont work if you have installed 2.2 update OTA and thats how i updated mine to 2.2??

The Orange rom has never been leaked.
For you to debrand, you could just create a goldcard and use the latest WWE RUU.
unfortunately, there is no way to get back to Orange stock unrooted.

I agree. Unfortunately, Orange doesnt even include their recovery ROM when you buy their phone. It's the French, so no surprise....
Agree with the above poster, although I would root, and use custom.

does the memory card have to be the one which came with desire, because my original one stopped working so i have a 1gb one...
Nope, just use your day to day card. Should be fine.
Make sure you make your goldcard before anything else, it'll make life easier if you encounter any problems down the line.

So folks here .. does that mean GB upgrade should be done only once i have taken sufficient reviews and made up mind for the same.
Guys is the upgrade not worth it!!! i heard the memory available will reduce to something like 128mb but i heard there are better abilities to move applications to SD card.
Is it true??? is any once facing serious disappointments after the upgarde?
I am kinda waiting for responses !

Why don't you install a pre rooted version? Then your hboot won't be upgraded and you can return to froyo if necessary.

Well i m looking at installing the Stock GB via RUU from HTC.. which now i dont think will be favourable for me after the responses !
I had contacted the HTC Support to ask the query regarding the downgrade possibility. The support guy has informed that this HTC Stock GB upgarde is some sorta special upgrade and hence it seems they will rollback my device incase i m not happy ..

No there is an hboot upgrade, I think it just means only they can downgrade it for you which is why you have to take it to their service centre.

i was thinking of doing this too, what is wrong with it,why do people not like it,2.3 has a force to SD card function so memory shouldnt be a problem,a review would be great so i can make a decision, does it affect your SMS and MMS like they said it might? and if this does stuff up then how else could i get it rolled back as i live in australia and have no idea where a service center is,i would have to go to my Telstra store to have it sent in which case im not sure if it is covered by warranty?
Service centre for sydney is fonebiz rokdale
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
At the moment there is no way to have it rolled back, it'll change your boot animation so telstra will most likely notice that you don't have their official rom on it therefore voiding your warranty. I think the main reason people don't like it is that once its installed you can no longer root your phone so you're stuck with it. Also, I'm not sure how great the stock force to sd feature would be.
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
i thought my warranty goes through HTC? at least thats what i was told? if its a ROM by HTC why would it void their own warranty? well is it that bad that ppl want to go back to froyo? or is it coz they just want to complain or what? what is the actual difference that makes it a poor upgrade, and how come u dont think the force SD would be good?

But I am thinking about the warranty, I read that flashing the original RUU will revert the phone to the original state. I am from India, So I think I need the RUU with version 1.26.720.2
Please give me some suggestions!

What's the difference? I unlocked on htcdev.com
When you unlock through htcdev.com there were some drawbacks regarding warranty. But when you unlock using s-off you can easily bring your mobile to factory state for warranty.
Can some one post how exactly we can claim for warranty when we unlock through htcdev.com?
I can't avoid all the features which will work only with rooting. So finally I had unlocked my mobile through htcdev.com
I'd say wait 1 week before you do it, perhaps next week there is already a way to do it ^^. (That warranty is lost forever, so I wouldn't do it impulsively).
Offtopic : you really have a giant signature OP ;-)!
I still waiting for S-Off. As if now I don't need rooted device since i'm enjoying the stock apps and stock ROM. Once i'm tired then I may unlocked.
Im awaiting s-off just for warranty reasons

personally I want S-OFF via htc dev. If they are going to try and void the warranty because the software is being messed with anyway why not give me full access.
i unlocked my phone but i got insurance from my carrier, so should i break it my phone might by accident get a knock out of my hand and over the viaduct lol

What app data do you want to migrate? I only brought my SMS and Bookmarks across with me, using SMS BackupPro and Bookmarks to SD. Don't game a lot, so that was never important...
I am waiting for S-Off. I am actually really happy how my phone works in stock form and sometimes custom ROMs can have one little bug or another, so you are constantly flashing, chasing that perfect and stable ROM.
I will likely want to install custom soon, so if there is no S-Off by mid-year, maybe I'll just go with HTCDev.
I'm wanting S-Off rather than using HTCdev as from following the S-Off Dev thread in here the changing of CID to none rather than the stock HTC CID could hinder going S-Off in the future even with a relock. I also don't feel the need to go Custom ROMing while unbranded handsets are getting things updated by HTC.
I'll wait for a couple of weeks post Kernel source release then make my mind up.
Really difficult coming from.my ENG S-Off Desire HD though.
