Is it normal for my phone to overheat after a few minutes of watching a video. Could it be that the battery is causing this overheating? Do you guy's get this issue? What is your normal temperature reading when you guys are using your phone? I know that its suppost to get hot because of the snapdragon, but is it normal to overheat after a few minutes of use.

It varies. Heat index, on or off the charger, etc. I'm at 32 right now but if I am plugged into the HTC charger it gets hot hitting 41.
CPU extensive apps will heat it up as well.

I've seen mine hit 52! Charging in my car with windows up on a hot day. Felt like an idiot. Lol.

What temperatures see you guys experiencing while talking on the phone? For at least 10 minutes or so?
Thanks a lot for any input.

You can use OS monitor from the market to do so if you don't already have an app for it: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eolwral.osmonitor&hl=en
Mines about 85deg but its usually low 80 when I'm googling and using xda. Hard to get mine in the 90s unless its doing a bench or charging. I also live in hawaii where the humidety is 100% literally all the time and quite warm

Interesting... If I am on the phone for 10+ mins I get up to around 107 fahrenheit...should I be concerned?
This is completely stock. I am still stock as I want to make sure my phone is functioning properly before I root etc.

I just added a data plan , I was using the phone exclusively on WiFi,I noticed the device gets real warm when using the phone when the mobile data is on(by using the phone I mean, surfing web, streaming music and GPS navigation)
Is that a common problem, or it's just with my device, that I should seek help for?
Btw,I upgraded to ics through kies last month....

Do you have an app that tells you your device temp. It could be normal, but it's hard knowing if you don't know the actual temp.
I've noticed when using the radio vs WiFi, my device runs warmer. High 80's, sometimes higher if I'm running it a lot. WiFi always seems to run cooler.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
As long is it is not burning your hand, then it's perfectly fine. Most phones tend to warm up during use. You can perhaps try a different kernel if you are rooted and undervolt, some people claim it helps. If not then don't even stress unless it hurts to hold the phone.

Thank you guys,I just downloaded a battery indicator app which shows the temperature, and I'm gonna keep an eye on it,
I've heard that temp should not exceed 130

Are you guys all running stock kernel and ROM or custom? I'm on stock.
Ha! Try hours with GPS, Bluetooth music and Tethering on... the heat seems to really hit while I'm charging and doing all that. Fact! I can't touch the ass end of the phone. It probably gets about 8 hours a week like that. Still working perfectly. Samsung tells me it's normal. It also has a lot of factors for me too. I use a 1 amp charger. After 96% it's not so bad. At night when brightness is down. Not as hot. I tried to get it to mess up but couldn't. GPS, Bluetooth, tethering, charging from 30% and 100% display, and I pushed out to a low coverage area. Didn't miss a beat or melt. Lol.

Navigation makes phones really hot, but with normal usage it should stay within 30-36°C.
I like this phone's heat management more than my old phone. My Evo 3d would get hot from 10 min usage.
On this, my screen has been on for 2 hours straight and I'm running at a cool 35.1 °C.

When I was running CM10 for a day or two I thought my phone would melt but it was also 90+ degrees outside so it was hard to tell. My phone gets a little warm, but nothing too worrying.

It actually shouldn't be expected. The Snapdragon S3's also ran at 1.5ghz and was pleasantly cool and the Exynos on the Galaxy Note was at 1.4ghz. Both are less power efficient and should run hotter than the S4. I've used the Evo LTE for a while with the same S4 and it barely got warm on a hot day. The issue is with the second core being weird. For those that hasn't already, make sure you flash Freeza's fix, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790061 . This fix made my phone cool and got rid of my quickly draining battery life.
Most of the time my phone will stay within "normal" (to me) range, but when I game heavily... it turns into an oven range! I've gotten so paranoid a few times, I took the battery out and let it cooled for 5-10min
Im having the same problem....it isnt the software thats causing this its the hardware
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I hope you guys will repsond to this... What do you consider to be "normal" temperature for your phone to reach? Is 35 degrees realy normal? Ive heard people with s3 talk of theirs only reaching temperatures of 29 degrees max.
Thanks.
I just got a replacement phone from t mobile and it seems to have a heating issue. My other note didn't get this warm while idleing. This screenshot shows Idle temperature of my note 2. No apps running in the background, can you guys report your idle temp, so I can get a significant temperature average.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid . But I do know it definitely runs hotter than my other device. and it is very annoying to have a device this hot while hardly doing anything on it. I wouldn't consider it overheating by any means but it is still definitely notably

Man that's perfectly within specs. Start worrying when is 90 degrees CELCIUS 90 degrees f is less than body temperature. You are worrying about nothing. The processor doesn't even start getting problems until like 75c and above,,... What do you expect your phones operating temperature to be 50 degrees f! Walk around with and Ice pack in your pocket. Plus when the device gets hot enough it shuts down anyways. You cant possibly burn that phone without putting a flame to it.
See that temperature normal.
Is this s troll post, be honest.

My note ll was getting really hot on idle when temperature was around 80f here in Chicago. I have no idea why but now seems to be normal.
Hey all, any idea how hot it is safe for the cpu to run? Using trickster mod to read the cpu temp after a few hours my cpu can reach close to 70 degrees Celsius and the screen feels hot. That seems a little insane. I thought it was aosp rooms causing this but after switching to i747z I can confirm that is not the cause of the heat. What do your cpus run at? Any ideas?

The battery temp or the cpu temp?
Mine tends to get hot too, sometimes almost too hot to touch.
But never over 70F.
Usually between 20F and 60F, it tends to stay around 50+ during activity.
Im not really comfortable with how hot this thing gets sometimes. I'd be downright alarmed if my cpu temp was over 100F.
Oops, that's battery temp
CPU temp seems to stay around 40C
