Temperatures... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

What temperatures see you guys experiencing while talking on the phone? For at least 10 minutes or so?
Thanks a lot for any input.

You can use OS monitor from the market to do so if you don't already have an app for it: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eolwral.osmonitor&hl=en

Mines about 85deg but its usually low 80 when I'm googling and using xda. Hard to get mine in the 90s unless its doing a bench or charging. I also live in hawaii where the humidety is 100% literally all the time and quite warm

35c

Interesting... If I am on the phone for 10+ mins I get up to around 107 fahrenheit...should I be concerned?
This is completely stock. I am still stock as I want to make sure my phone is functioning properly before I root etc.

Phone over heating while being used on the mobile data

I just added a data plan , I was using the phone exclusively on WiFi,I noticed the device gets real warm when using the phone when the mobile data is on(by using the phone I mean, surfing web, streaming music and GPS navigation)
Is that a common problem, or it's just with my device, that I should seek help for?
Btw,I upgraded to ics through kies last month....

Do you have an app that tells you your device temp. It could be normal, but it's hard knowing if you don't know the actual temp.
I've noticed when using the radio vs WiFi, my device runs warmer. High 80's, sometimes higher if I'm running it a lot. WiFi always seems to run cooler.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
As long is it is not burning your hand, then it's perfectly fine. Most phones tend to warm up during use. You can perhaps try a different kernel if you are rooted and undervolt, some people claim it helps. If not then don't even stress unless it hurts to hold the phone.

Thank you guys,I just downloaded a battery indicator app which shows the temperature, and I'm gonna keep an eye on it,
I've heard that temp should not exceed 130

I used to have problems with mine getting very hot but this would only happen if I was using GPS for extended periods of time.

Does your SIII heat up at the bottom when under heavy load?

Just curious if anybody else's gets pretty warm after surfing the web and listening to some music or another instance was while video chatting with my wife? Is this been the case or do I have a defect. The vibrant I came from never really did.
Yea it gets a little warm but nothing to worry about. Let's not forget how thin the back cover is.... So you will feel it warm.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, mine gets warm. I don't consider it "HOT"
Ditto....it heats up...and i feel it through my case...have not given it much thought thou.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
yup definitely gets hot. Usually it's ok but when it's really hot outside it can be bothersome but not to the point that it burns or anything. At least not yet lol.
Thanks guys, I feel better.
If you are too worried use some app that will display battery temperature. I use wifi tether. My battery goes to max 37 degree Celsius after gaming for half an hour. That's not bad considering the battery is designed to operate upto 60 degrees.

Mine gets hot after about 20 minutes browsing the web without letting the screen turn off once, but it always cools back down really fast. I was freaking out the first couple of times this happened because T-mobile's exchange policy is retarded and slow. I waited long enough for the phone I didn't want to have to wait longer for a replacement. I also have an issue that has been happening ever since I bought the phone. I tried searching, but got nothing. com.process.google.gapps always force closes, but after I hit okay everything runs great. When it happens it does freeze everything on the phone except the notification bar. Then when it finally says com.process.google.gapps has stopped and needs to close, I just hit the okay button and it's like nothing ever happened. Anybody else have this problem and if so know what's causing it?
Mine can get pretty warm too to the point where my hand gets greasy/ sweaty a little .. gets annoying

Did you have any issues? Like the phone slowing down, rebooting or even shutting off due to an over heat?
Mine gets warm as well, but not "hot," so I don't worry about it.
After flashing new kernel. It doesn't feel so warm. I don't run it overclocked.

How hot does your S3 get?

When I'm on mobile data with GPS running, I noticed the bottom of half of my S3 getting pretty damn warm. Is this normal?

Are you guys all running stock kernel and ROM or custom? I'm on stock.
Ha! Try hours with GPS, Bluetooth music and Tethering on... the heat seems to really hit while I'm charging and doing all that. Fact! I can't touch the ass end of the phone. It probably gets about 8 hours a week like that. Still working perfectly. Samsung tells me it's normal. It also has a lot of factors for me too. I use a 1 amp charger. After 96% it's not so bad. At night when brightness is down. Not as hot. I tried to get it to mess up but couldn't. GPS, Bluetooth, tethering, charging from 30% and 100% display, and I pushed out to a low coverage area. Didn't miss a beat or melt. Lol.

Navigation makes phones really hot, but with normal usage it should stay within 30-36°C.
I like this phone's heat management more than my old phone. My Evo 3d would get hot from 10 min usage.
On this, my screen has been on for 2 hours straight and I'm running at a cool 35.1 °C.

It actually shouldn't be expected. The Snapdragon S3's also ran at 1.5ghz and was pleasantly cool and the Exynos on the Galaxy Note was at 1.4ghz. Both are less power efficient and should run hotter than the S4. I've used the Evo LTE for a while with the same S4 and it barely got warm on a hot day. The issue is with the second core being weird. For those that hasn't already, make sure you flash Freeza's fix, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790061 . This fix made my phone cool and got rid of my quickly draining battery life.
Most of the time my phone will stay within "normal" (to me) range, but when I game heavily... it turns into an oven range! I've gotten so paranoid a few times, I took the battery out and let it cooled for 5-10min
Im having the same problem....it isnt the software thats causing this its the hardware
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I hope you guys will repsond to this... What do you consider to be "normal" temperature for your phone to reach? Is 35 degrees realy normal? Ive heard people with s3 talk of theirs only reaching temperatures of 29 degrees max.
Thanks.

Average battery temperature

OK so I know pie devices get relatively hot, but when just having my screen on and typing on here or using root explorer it goes up to some 90 degrees. And it just concerns me because my galaxy s2 hardly guys 90 even while playing intensive games.
I'm just curious if 90 is normal or if I should get a new device through warranty.
Thanks everyone.

When I was using SetCPU, I saw mine hovered between 80-90 most of the time. If it is bothering your hand, put a case on it. I use an Otterbox Defender and I can feel the heat through the case sometimes.

In my experience this generally hapoens either after a new rom flash or just at random (seemingly). But it has always eventually calmed down and stays cool after that.
I suspect it is searching for mor something....like updating libraries of songs and whatnot. Seems like it occasionally gets stuck and when you add additional load it easilyy heats up. Try using Show CPU Use in dev options and keep an eye on the top few processes while it heats up. May give you an idea as to the real cause.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid . But I do know it definitely runs hotter than my other device. and it is very annoying to have a device this hot while hardly doing anything on it. I wouldn't consider it overheating by any means but it is still definitely notably

Man that's perfectly within specs. Start worrying when is 90 degrees CELCIUS 90 degrees f is less than body temperature. You are worrying about nothing. The processor doesn't even start getting problems until like 75c and above,,... What do you expect your phones operating temperature to be 50 degrees f! Walk around with and Ice pack in your pocket. Plus when the device gets hot enough it shuts down anyways. You cant possibly burn that phone without putting a flame to it.
See that temperature normal.
Is this s troll post, be honest.
