downgrade bootloader from 0.9 to 0.8? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im trying to root my htc desire, its currently running froyo and 0.9 bootloader, as you may know unrevoked cannot root and flash without a bootloader of 0.8 or below, are there any simple guides to downgrade?

The latest unrevoked can work with 0.93 now (it just wont allow loading of custom recoveries)
But their are quite a few threads already covering downgrading.

Why why why are you posting in the Dev section?
Read the effing rules and post it in Q&A.. even better, use the fkin search function.

[Q] Best non-unrevoked root method

Hope I don't get flamed here...
I've tried unrevoked method of rooting but I just end up with the "Backup CID is missing" after reboot.
(There is no solution I can find, and contacting them on twitter is not an option as I wouldn't be seen dead there.)
Can anybody recommend the next best method to root, after unrevoked?
Phone is a standard (non-branded) Froyo device.
Thanks.
Ferg.
Best is to roll back to 2.1 using this thread and then use unrEVOked 3.14...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
Don't have a desire myself, but isn't universal androot an option?
Unrevoked is the main one, maybe you could go to their irc channel if Google has nothing...
PS. Moved to Q&A as not development.
Please do not post new threads in development to ask a question.
You can use S-off method.

No, that doesn't get root and actually requires to be rooted already.
I also think it's better to downgrade to Eclair and then either use unrevoked 3.14, or some other method such as Paul's (http://android.modaco.com/content/h...e-now-with-hboot-0-80-and-os-to-1-21-support/)

[Q] Could someone help me unroot?

I've looked at the wiki guides, and there was a guide, but I'm not sure if that is outdated or not. So, I need to unroot because my screen is messed up. Keeps moving when I'm not even touching it. Can anyone help? I didn't root with unrevoked if that helps.

Anyone????
Follow the guide I posted. If you want 2.2 back, use the OTA from Sprint.

Gingerbreak, from what I understand, will only provide temp root. And the code to disable S-ON does not work on HTC Gingerbread. So once you reboot, All changes are rolled back.
To install ClockworkMod Recovery its needed to downgrade, root, apply ENG/S-OFF, upgrade again (2.3 strangely does not restore S-ON), Gingerbreak (If your lucky and it works), flash recovery.
EDIT: I need to start typing quicker, ghostofcain beat me to it.
I tried Gingerbreak at first. it worked. but with a reboot all of changes vanished!
is there any way to first S-Off the phone and then use the Gingerbreak without the Downgrading... Downgrading is truely a pain in the ass!
If you have lost S-OFF (back to S-ON) then no, you will have to downgrade first.
Not helping much....
No offence but I read these forums all the time and its a bit tiring when someone asks a questions and they only get half an answer and not a very helpful one at that.
Ok so you can't root the DHD running stock 2.3.3 without downgrading first.
So how about pointing the people in need of help in the right direction then?!
How do you downgrade? Is it possible?

what's the reason you don't want to downgrade?
Not sure if this has been said or not but:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/
It's as easy as "download, run" and it works brilliantly!
I suggest you just boot a Ubuntu Live CD (it's not as bad as it sounds, I actually liked it the first time I tried it and now I have it installed by my Windows) and just run the command:
wget http://droid.neolobster.com/roms/aahk-25102011.zip && unzip aahk-25102011.zip && sudo ./hack-ace.sh

in terminal, press "1" and be afk for 5 mins.
Doesn't erase your data, doesn't format your phone, doesn't downgrade your Android OS. It...it just works!
Good luck with it

How to Downgrade to Froyo after installing HTC Stock Gingerbread

friend need help i installed HTC Gingerbread which the up on developer website on 1st of aug. now i want to downgrade it to stock froyo.
how to do?
help
Oh i dunno maybe if you put this question in the right place then yes it would be answers for you..
There is a Q&A section for you to put this question in don't waste developers time and mods time by putting your question here. you will get flamed just a fair warning I'm not mad just saying...
Dont think its possible Teppic74's downgrader wouldn't work on the ARA build, so doubt it will work like this.

You should had to ask this in your mind before flashing an RUU that contain an hboot update!
Go to www.shipped-roms.com and find the froyo RUU and flash it, it should downgrade your hboot and you should be able to root again. If you have a branded desire you’re going to need goldcard.
I you dont know how to Flash a RUU use the search function

It's reported to not work! The new hboot does not allow to flash an older hboot.
An S-off could have protected him. Have you tried the new AlpharevX to try and S-Off ur device? If it works, you can reverse the process later.

Try their irc channel as well. It could be a 'soft' incompatibility, wherein they've disabled it because they havent yet tested it.
Is there no other rootable rom of the same hboot?

he also flashed the hboot that came with the update.

If I not wrong, was a temp root anyway. But if Paul flashed the new hboot, this is a good news for those that flashed it too. He will of course find the way to change rom

I agree as well, but in the meantime there possibly are a few thousand Desire users who want this problem solved. Another possibility is that people who waited for the GB-update want to root after this disappointing update. They also might be potential donators (including me), so please get root for the official GB-update up and running!
Thanks in advance!
Hello mates, i'm having the same issue, just want to downgrade back to froyo and i can't do it because of the hboot . i've tried with unrewoked, went to shipped roms but nothing succeded.. can you please, tell me if someone managed to fix it ? thanks.
I know its frustrating but you will probably have to wait, keep an eye on the Desire Android Development section, I'm sure when theres a fix the devs will post it up there for you

You can still S-OFF your phone.
After a while, the script might (if needed) try to download a PD98IMG file. When it gives an error simply google for the filename (might be PD98IMG-GB2 for example) and place it in the PD98IMG directory AAHK created. Everything should go well. I S-OFF'd my Desire yesterday.

Sorry KirovAir, but if the people you are advising to use the Hack Kit get stuck due to not following instructions or some other issue, will you support that? Because let me remember you that the Hack Kit is no longer supported nor here or in the IRC channel. Don't you think that what you are advising is dangerous and might leave quite a few fellas with their phones in a blank screen?

Thanks for the information!
I had also read about 'Easy Ace Root Tool' in dev forum. But I have a question regarding that.
- It says that only Custom ROMs can be installed, not Ported ROMs. What is meant by 'ported ROMs'? Will I not be able to install, say Sabsa prime or Venom's ROM(which are ported from One S and Desire X), if I unlock bootloader using Easy Ace root tool?
Also, does it support flashing 4ext recovery?
could you please tell me at least which version of aahk you used? already found in the web PD98IMG-GB2 and i am willing to do the proccess... already red many forums about rooting my desire hd. but since you did that proccess already i think you can give some reliable tips even if this topic is unsupported here. i know that discussing about aahk is unwelcome in the xda forum and i am sorry for this but i think you would agree that its the way with the most chances of success. or anyway could you suggest me any another way to follow?
thank you for yoour time

Unlocking the bootloader will allow you to flash any recovery that is for the device (DHD / Inspire 4G), Custom roms built from source (CM) and modified sense roms work great. Ported roms I am not sure, but you can try it out. In the worst case scenario, you might get stuck in the splash screen and you will have to flash a different one.

You don't need S-OFF to root. You can just run this and you will be just fine. You don't have to be a programmer to root your phone, just do a little reading and searching will suffice.
