Soo, I've searched and searched and I can't seem to find the answer to this, or the keywords i'm using are too generic, anyway..
What I'd like to know is it possible to change the functionality of the EVO's search button?
When I long press the search button i'd like to have Bing's voice search app to come up... I have the Bing app already installed on the phone....
thanks..
What ever is being used now... Go to manage applications.. Find tyre search app that opens now and clear defaults. Then press the search button and you should be able to change it.

Hi!
I've found that using search to launch applications is much more hasslefree than setting up icons etc....
Only small annoyance is that I have to first press the home button - then the search.
If I could somehow configure the phone so that a longpress on the hardware search button would go into global search (rather than the current-app search) it would be great.
How can I do this? Is there an app that lets you map the keys?
Hello,
I would like to have the search and back hardware key exchanged.
By the way i never had used the search button.

Guys
Has anyone found a way to intercept the search button in thier app so that we can bring our own search up
I'm writing an panoramic app and would love for the user to be able to hit the seach button, like we can in market place to being up a context sensitive search!!
It seems madness that we are not allowed to use this button
Thanks in Advance

Doesn't look like it's possible (which kinda sucks).

Can someone tell me how I can reassign the short press on the bottom search button on the EVO 4G that usually brings up google search? I want to assign it to a different application I have. I do want to keep the long press as what it already does (it opens a specific app I set).
Thanks....
What ROM are you using?

Now using MIKG 3.1 rom. I have long press on search assigned to something but I would love to be able to assign short press to the new DRAGON GO app as I have removed the google search (and now short press does nothing)
Just as I hold the menu button to have the recent tasks show up, is there a way to make the capacitive search button be the task manager?
I am currently on CM9
Will this work on CM9?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558220

Sounds like you need to learn some advanced scripting.
There must be values somewhere in the ROM that you can copy and paste somewhere.
Unpack everything and find it? Lol.
Good luck!
(there's an app out there, 'google search bar', that allows you to long-press the search button to start the gesture search app. I would study the script in that program, and find the long-press actions... and go from there)
Hi all,
l upgraded my phone from a Mt4G to a note 2, and have been Very pleased with it.
The only thing 1 miss, though, is the hardware search button on the bottom right. I understand That long- pressing the Menu key functions as a search , but it doesn't work in all apps . Notably, in Chrome for example. To get a Search going, I have to reach All the way to the top of the Screen to the address bar - a LONG reach on this screen!
please let me know if lm if I'm missing something here- Some additional function that makes up for my missing search key!
Thanks
Lee
Well youll get used to not having it. I used a lot of old androids with the hardware search button but now i dont even remeber using it.

You could always install LMT Launcher on XDA, then assign a search key through the pie controls.
