Configuring hardware keys - Desire General

Hi!
I've found that using search to launch applications is much more hasslefree than setting up icons etc....
Only small annoyance is that I have to first press the home button - then the search.
If I could somehow configure the phone so that a longpress on the hardware search button would go into global search (rather than the current-app search) it would be great.
How can I do this? Is there an app that lets you map the keys?

Hello,
I would like to have the search and back hardware key exchanged.
By the way i never had used the search button.

[Q] Search button mapping

Hi I'm using Launcherpro atm and I was wondering if there is a way to remap the search button so that when i press it it will open the gesture search app and not the usual google search thingy?

[Q] Physical Keyboard Shortcuts

Hey everyone I have a G2 running the Latest CM 7 build and for some reason out of no where my physical keyboard will open applications as if some of the keys were shortcuts to different applications. For instance when I press on the letter "e" it will open my email app and "b" for browser etc...I notice after a battery pull everything is back to normal and I am able to type as needed but after a few hours of the phone being on the problem comes back. Any ideas??
BTW this was happening even when I had CM 7 RC 1 as well.
this should just happen when you press search + BUTTON. map shortcuts in settings -> application -> quick launch.

[Guide] Change the user buttons to home and back

I was looking to change the user configurable buttons on my Desire Z but couldn't find a easy guide or simple solution. I started to experiment a bit. This is what I found out:
To change the layout you only need to things:
1. a rooted phone
2. A program like Root explorer with R/W permissions
Then do the following:
Go to system/usr/keylayout and open the file for the layout you are using in a text editor (in my case this was the WWE version)
I then changed 'user 1' to 'HOME' and 'user 2' to 'BACK'.
I did a soft reset and I now use the user 1 button to go to the home screen and the user 2 button to go back
note: This guide is problably written a 1000 times but I couldn't find it so I hope it's my first real (small) contribution

Thanks for the guide! And actually, this method can provide some neat tricks!
For example, I personally never use the search button. So instead, I can change the Search key to USER1 and now the search key is a User-Assignable button!
EDIT: It appears that the Search hardware key and the Search touchkey have different key mapping ID. But the virtual Search touchkey doesn't seem to be listed in keylayout at all. Weird.
There's an app for that
Also, AFAIK it should be possible to remap the capacitive search button.

The capacitive search button is 217, which is the same as the hardware search button. But my hardware button is doing what I assigned it, while my capacitive one is not doing anything.
It's either not linking, or my phone's capacitive search button is broken.

I think it's a bit more difficult, you should look in Andromadus thread where someone did it, there's a zip to download...
edit: here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516942 the zip is attached, don't know if it works with every rom, surely with andromadus, but we are OT, sorry.

[Q] Any tools to remap/assign hardkeys to launch an app?

Hi, after searching in the forum, i don see any tools or apps which can remap/assign hardkeys to launch an app. What i see is only the button remapper, which only remap the button to do normal function like camera, end, etc....Is there any apps or tools that can assign or remap our DHD hardkeys to launch an app, just like the Windows AE button plus. Tx!
Hmm I'm not too sure about this but the CM7 Rom does have options to change the functionalities of the home, menu and search buttons.
Yeah cyanogen has this function. I haven't seen it on sense roms but there may be one out there.
If so it would be cool of some one to share with us.

[Q] Map Long Press Home to Google Search / Now

I'd like to know if there is a way to map the a long press of the Home key to launch Google Now (or Google Search if you haven't flashed Google Now)?
Something similar to the previous mod that maps the menu option to the Recent Apps key and removes the 3 dot menu bar.
Apologies if this already exists, a search of the forum didn't turn up anything.

That option is available in many ROMs, for example ViperX or ParanoidAndroid.

Thanks. I've installed Android Revolution HD which comes with CD Suite Tools. This enabled re-mapping of all the hardware keys including long pressing the Home button to activate "Voice Search" which, if you flash the Google Now zip will be replaced by Google Now. This also lets me re-map the Recent Apps key to the menu function and removes the 3 dot menu bar. Excellent.
