I rooted my mytouchslide yesterday and installed teamfenix's froyo rom.
My question is, is there a way to remove the Amazon app and other apps that can't be deleted in the applications menu?
Also, is there a way i can replace system apps, such as the genie widget and the phone.apk to ones that are themed?

So I installed HTC sense weather and clock and now getting fc com.hTC.bgp
Anyway to restore these if I didn't do a backup with titanium?
Anyone have the apks
Better yet anyone have a fix to these fcs
No? Thanks
hmmm, something tells me that you may not be using a sense rom? Those apk's require a sense rom in order to use because they are intertwined. Trying to use those on a non-sense rom will result in FC because the required framework files are not available.
I am using fresh 3 def a sense rom but stupidly I used titanium bacup to uninstall htc stuff like clock and weather and calendar without researching the adverse effects odor removing them
Now I want to reinstall to get rid of fc com.htc.bgp
I just purchased Launcher Pro and am having a lot of fun customizing my phone. I thought I would never want to give up stock Sense, but I am really liking a lot of the versatility and widgets that Launcher Pro offers now.
Anyway, I have a couple of transparent apks of the Google News and Weather genie widget. I tried to installing them with a ES File Manager (the app was signed), but I was unable to. I'm guessing this is because the Genie App is considered a system app now?
What are my options and what do I need to do? Do I need to root to remove the stock genie widget first? If so, how would I do that? I'd prefer to not have a different rom if possible, and would just like to get rid of the current genie app and install the transparent one.
Thanks for the help, guys. This transparent widget is literally the last piece to my new and improved homescreen.
I answered this question and have posted a file for this in another thread. Please search first.

I did read through that entire thread (assuming we are talking about the same one) before I posted, but I was hoping for a slightly more detailed breakdown on the best way to do this since I am pretty lost when it comes to rooting/adb pushing and all that.
Well, I just learned I won't be able to do this for the time being anyway since I have the newest OTA and it apparently doesn't play nice with unRevoked.
Anyway, here is what I was going to do:
1. Root with unRevoked.
2. Move/Remove stock Genie Widget app with adb commands.
3. Run signed transparent Genie Widget apk with file explorer app.
Does this sound like it will work?
You will definitely need root to do this.
1)The first step is to root your phone
2)Make sure the GenieWidget apk you are using is NOT SIGNED. System apps aren't signed.
3)You don't need to remove the old one, the new GenieWidget.apk will overwrite it when you adb push it. The commands you should use are:
adb remount (this remounts system as writable)
adb push GenieWidget.apk /system/app
4)reboot your phone
I just did this exact thing earlier today (i.e. install clear GenieWidget, I've been rooted for awhile). Let me know if you run into any issues.
Don't mind me hijacking the thread for a quick question.
I'm using HTC Desire (unrooted) and I had Genie.apk installed quite some time ago. Thing is, I just found out recently that after installation, it's become a system app which is refusing to uninstall.
So my question is: if I wanted to get a transparent/semi-transparent version via installation of a modded Genie.apk, is rooting the only way to achieve it?
Thanks!
I am rooted on a custom ROM. There are several apps that show running when I looks up the applications settings, that I never use. Such as;
Sprint voice mail. ( I use Google voice)
AP News. I never use that widget.
Can I just use root explorer and go into system/app and delete the .apk ? Would that permanently remove those ?
Sprint Galaxy S2 w/ Calk's 1.5a + ICS 1.6
Use Titanium Backup, ROM Toolbox, or a similar app to uninstall/freeze the apps you don't want/need. These apps require root, and allow you to uninstall system apps, or freeze them so that they never run in the background.
I personally do not vouch for the accuracy of the list but you might find this thread of interest:

So first things first I am running Goldeneye 7.1 stock kernel. I wanted the new themed Google Keyboard in the apps and themes section and downloaded both the zip and the apk but since a stock Google keyboard comes with the rom as a system app the themed keyboard wouldn't show up, even by flashing the zip. I tried removing the google keyboard from system apps (it was called Latin.apk or something like that) and themed keyboard still gave me cannot download app already installed. I finally ran the zip of the rom on my PC with a program called APP Swapper, i took out Latin.apk and put in the themed keyboard, now it works but every time i restart the phone i keep getting a google keyboard foreclose error until i reinstall the themed keyboard apk again. And then its fine till the next reboot. Any ideas why this is happening? and any solutions? Thanks in Advance.

Hye i kinda lost you but its not a good idea to remove system apps. And try to avoid changing them too.. I have gotten many force closes that way. I believe if you place it in /data/app/ then it will just use it from there as a system app, overriding the original system app without breaking.
I haven't tried the themed keyboard myself but you should probably ask this in that thread. Do you know what his script does exactly?
Hi all I am here with one other (un)usefull mod. With this modification you will be able to freeze all apps in native application manager + you will be able to set on/off notifications for all apps.
HOW TO:
make full backup in twrp
flash in twrp one of zip
freeze_app_mod_with_su.zip - if you use Move SuperSU to Settings Mod flash this one
freeze_app_mod.zip - in other cases flash this one
happy freezing
one issue - original launcher can't be freeze
This mod will replace Settings.apk with new one deodexed, it is based on 2.2.1 Oxygen OS version and is tested only on this version. Be careful what you will freeze or you can freeze whole phone
Good work.
But why spend time on this? We can use 3rd apps like sd maid to freeze.

I know, I know.... but I just enjoy it and I am trying to keep my phone "clean". Almost for everything exist 3rd apps but I like if it goes without them
