Hello XDA,
I'm swapping out my BlackBerry Storm2 today, for an HTC Incredible.
I have been lurking around on Droid forums for a few weeks now, especially here.
I want to put CM6 on my DInc, but I have a lot of people telling me it's really buggy.
Which is the best ROM out right now? The least buggiest, preferably.
Also, which Kernal works best with which ROM?
Sorry for the seemingly stupid questions.
Thanks in advance!
Edit:
One more thing I don't quite fully understand. Do some themes only work with some ROM's?
Virtuous 2.7 ROM + powersaving kernel + rEVOlution theme is my recommended combo and believe me I have tried a bunch! Its incredibly stable - you get to remove a good amount of the crapware and manages to keep the best of sense widgets too. I have tried many others - Ruby/CM in ROMs, King's kernels and various themes (yes they are ROM specific) and this is what I keep going back to.
My 2 cents.
I use Virtuous 2.7 Power Saving as well and absolutely love it.
I added the SexyRosieBrowser Mod and Rotary Lockscreen Mod and deleted a lot of the bloatware and widgets I never used from HTC and Verizon.
I also added the EVO Camera
It's pretty much the best of BOTH worlds... a mix mash of Vanilla and Sense UI!!!
very stable and only a few minor bugs that aren't that big of deal.

Thanks for the quick replies guys,
I will definitely be trying Virtous out before anything else.
Some people told me CM6 was great but it was made with a heavy code. So i'm guessing it's buggy and slow at times?
It's just weird coming from a BlackBerry device that all you can do is throw on some Hybrids and .cod files :/
@PhillyCheese What are the benefits of the EVO camera? What does the SexyRosie mod do?

Definitely recommended. Virtuous is the most stable ROM I've used on my Inc so far. Cyanogen and Ruby both do this random reboot thing on my phone -- I haven't tried any other AOSP-based ROMs.

I don't think it's "heavy" per se, but it has far more mods to the AOSP base than Ruby does. That also doesn't mean it's more or less buggy than other ROMs either.

The Evo camera app has an onscreen shutter button. At least, that's the only significant difference I can find.

Awesome thanks for the tip man.
So when I get the Incredible today it probably won't be running Froyo right off the bat, correct? Should I update it right away?
Also, does using ROM Manager reduce the risk of bricking your phone? That's the only thing I'm scared of.
Based off of your recommendations I'm going to give Virtuous a try for the first time. Got it queued up in ROM Manager as we speak, let the fun begin!
Actually, it probably will be running Froyo already.
Personally, I'd spend the first few days running the phone as stock as possible to make sure there's no weird hardware problems. Once that's out of the way, root (Unrevoked 3) + NAND unlock (Unrevoked Forever) + stock backup.
After that, it's all up to you.
2 other tips that bit me in the ass at first:
1. HTC's People app (contacts) has a distinction between "Google Contacts" and "Phone Contacts". Only "Google" contacts are synchronized to the Google Account linked to your phone. It sounds obvious in retrospect, but the first time I entered all my contacts they went in as "Phone" contacts by default. That made for a nasty surprise the first time I wiped my phone.
2. There was some extreme weirdness with synchronization between People and my Google Contacts online. The only way I ended up with all my contacts showing up in People (and the Dialer) correctly was to make sure they were entered into the "My Contacts" group in Google Contacts. Those warts seem to have been ironed out with Froyo though. It's still probably significantly easier to enter your contacts online though than through your phone, particularly if you dump a CSV from your Blackberry first.

Thanks a ton man, unrevoked took his tool down, i've been checking back to see when it'll go back up.
Thank you for telling me about the contacts as well.
I recommend spending time on stock froyo non-rooted for at least a month.
You will have much more wisdom when moving to a new ROM because you will know what you like and don't like, want to add, want to remove...etc.
ALSO, it will give you enough time to find out if your incredible is defected! i thought i had a defected one cause i was having speaker issues but a nice hard reset did the trick. you will also know how your phone SHOULD work.
SexyRosieMod gets rid of the ugly sense ui at the bottom of the phone and replaces it with what you would find on vanilla android.
So far the only difference (but a very nice difference) in the EVO Camera is the adding of a shutter button on the screen. i hated having to long press the screen or use the track pad to take a picture.
I tried CM6.... it was nice and there are a few things i enjoy about it but there were things in sense ui that i just couldn't live with out. Also, CM6 was definitely buggy. I do miss being able to change the color of the android sleep clock, the power widget and the awesome wallpapers he included.
As far as Contacts go... I was lucky enough to have them backed up on Verizon already. But if you are a ROM switcher you want them backed up to your google account. I was lucky enough to figure out that i was able to import my verizon contacts as a .csv file straight into my google contacts.

Yeah I suppose I should probably run the phone stock as it is my first HTC device, and my first Droid device, coming from a BlackBerry.
So you go into their IRC site and then its the link they have at the top, it says not to distribute it so I'm not going to post the link here.
Edit: Yeah that's the link, going to get my DInc now, and play around with it!
Any other tips?

I never installed ADB before rooting nor did I mess with the radio (risk of bricking). your DInc should have the latest radio anyways.
Have fun and good luck!
enjoy stock froyo sense ui for awhile... seriously!

Thanks again for all your tips man.
Hey,
I'm unrevoked forever.
I'm thrilled with the leaked Dinc 2.2 rom and hydrakernel.net v0.5 kernel (under volted, but same clock speed).
This will give you enjoyment of a stable rom with root.

Just switched to the virtuous ROM 4 days ago from SkyRaider's 2.5.2 (never quite got 3.0/1 working to my liking) which taking nothing from the SkyRaider ROM, it was by far the most bug free, smoothest ROM I had used to date on my DInc. However, there is always a new shiny around the corner, and Virtuous is it for me. There are far better choices though if you want to strip your phone down to nothing and have none of the "wow-factor" features or visual effects installed, but generally thats restricted to the Linux diehards that still think we have to use a terminal to operate a PC. =) I keek i keed!
I have used Frankenrom (b6) and Virtuous (from 2.1 through 2.7) fairly thouroughly and had absolutely no problem with either of them. I tried ruby for a few hours a couple days ago and was really enthusiastic with how stripped down it was. The camera didn't seem to go up to the full resolution and I was getting tired so I flashed back to Viruous and went to sleep. I'd be willing to try Ruby again though. I'll probably be giving Redemption a try too in the near future.

Has anyone had any experience with Uncommon Sense or CM6?
I'm currently using Ruby 1.1.1 with adrynalyne's alternate kernel and have been very pleased. My previous rom was Virtuous... and I agree with what others have said, it is a great, stable, trimmed down rom that ran great.
I want my DInc to look like this:

Is there anyway to get this look without using CM6?

[GPL][ROM] 2010-08-20 FroydVillain 1.3.0 "villainrom.co.uk, I knew thee well..."
Quick Update for FV 1.3.1
Ok guys I can confirm the Tethering FC issue is fixed and working.
GPS is ok so far, fresh boot, launched GPS Status and it was almost instantly aware of 10 sats. Bear in mind this is indoors. Took a minute or two to get a lock where it locked 8 sats out of 11, with a 16 metre margin for error.
I'm going to keep testing this and leave the phone running stuff overnight with logcat running in case there's any weird issues.
FroydVillain 1.3.2 will hit some time tomorrow.
Thanks for your patience, sorry about the lame duck release. I'm off to flog myself silly with spaghetti. If you don't think that's harsh, you've never eaten my grandmother's spaghetti.
KNOWN ISSUES - FroydVillain 1.3.1 - KNOWN ISSUES
Selecting Tethering from Wireless menu causes an FC. - FIXED in 1.3.2
GPS -still- having some issues. - HOPEFULLY FIXED in 1.3.2, still testing.
FroydVillain 1.3.2 will hit either later today or tomorrow folks. It will be another full ROM, I couldn't avoid it sadly. Someone upstream of me decided it'd be a good idea to stop librpc being built against libgps which is the root of a lot of the GPS problems (not all the problems, there were others that have been fixed as well).
So keep those backups current. I'll be adhering to the poll and putting my preferred liblights back in place as well folks. Thanks for voting.

Ah the life of the poor ROM. It can be as awesome as the very latest batch of AwesomeSauce (tm) but without a home it may as well just be a kanged knock off that nobody wants.
*Dusts off hands* Well I guess we should explain the delay in release and what the hell happened to villainrom.co.uk.
Aliens. That's right, aliens. Since I cannot fathom any other reason that a whole site hosting cluster would fall over in a giant crumpled heap and take every single backup with it that isn't older than dirt, my only explanation is, aliens.
It would appear they blitzed through the datacentre with an EMP larger than the battery on Jeremy Goh's phone* and took out everything. Now our server is back however it's suffering a rather serious bout of amnesia. It knows not of England's dismal display at the world cup**, it doesn't even know I've joined the Villain team yet. It appears to be only dimly aware of FroydVillain in that it feels it might be "coming soon".

Right before we go into what's included and what's new, let's get the thanks out of the way.
Thanks to:
CyanogenMod team for keeping a step ahead of the original AOSP tree.
Alankila for his usual contributions (DSPManager/CPUSpeed).
Mikebeecham for the awesome artwork and wallpapers.
mpgrimes for his awesome wallpaper contributions.
markitoxs for helping me flesh out the wallpaper collection with some nice photos/abstract art.
Everyone who saw fit to donate recently, your generosity is greatly recognised, appreciated but never required.
Everyone who whined about issues in the last releases. I only fix stuff to make you shut the hell up yanno.
All the folks on IRC who downloaded the pre release and helped to test.
Alex24 for all his work with theming, thanks to him we'll be able to have themes good to go with each release really soon.
NikuelTrasgu for the original bootanimation and Alex24 for adding in the loading part.
My family, my friends, who all contributed to me receiving this prestig.....oh oops wrong speech.
SO what's new in 1.3.0? How can I possibly top 1.2.1? How can I justify making you all wipe your phones again?
Well it turns out 1.2.1 can easily be topped just by making GPS work properly. OH oh...there we go, 1.2.1 topped, GPS works properly.
GPS working correctly in this release without random reboots.
This had better be well received because I ran 15 individual tests of a fresh boot, get a lock on and then rebooting to test first boot lock ons. 15 out of 15 locked on with the usual varying lock on times with no random "GAARRGH" from the phone as it committed suicide.
That's right, we've eliminated the Emo factor of FroydVillain 1.2.x. Emos just don't have what it takes to help you navigate yourself around accurately. Too much effort you see. So we've given it a haircut, spruced up the clothes, washed all the make up off and given it a good stern kick in the arse with a smidgen of framework fixes to turn it into a fully functional member of the navigation society. Hurrah.
Wired Tethering works AT LAST.
Leave it to HTC to make a kernel that's about as future proof as a car made entirely out of tissue paper. From now on HTC kernel "devs" will be permanently thought of by me as evil and mad Jaffar types (Google Disney's Aladdin) with a child's chemistry set bubbling and frothing around them as they set about scuppering any possibly future useful feature just to make us buy newer phones because we can't get Froyo to work properly. Well screw you HTC! Muhahahaha.
Erm, where was I? Oh yeah. Wired tethering works from the Wireless & networks menu. You'll still need an app for the wireless tethering though since the wifi drivers don't support the Froyo method. Yet.
New wallpaper collection.
You can tell I've had extra time on my hands when I start putting things in that people have complained about since FroydVillain 1.0.0 that I consider incredibly low priority. We've brought back the original wallpapers that Nathan put in place and then some. If anyone dares complain about not liking one or all of them I will find out where you live and pay a visit with a TENS machine with the name of your testicles on it.
CMParts makes a return with a different face.
As the changelog for my fork of CMParts states, I've carried out a "Shameful SHAMEFUL rebranding for the Villain project". In the menu it's there as Villain Settings. This satisfies my want for aesthetics and your want of having features from other ROMs all in one ROM. Well maybe not the last part but you've at least got a tool that lets you play around with things you don't understand. Incidentally compcache isn't included in any Froyd release and never will be, so that option will continue to have no effect. It's also worth noting the Battery Percentage setting works with themes too. Hooray.
Japanese keyboard support.
Enough said really. OpenWNN keyboard is included. Pinyin would have been too, however it sucks goats and insists on being the default keyboard and promptly crashing. This is being worked on but for now anyone wanting this keyboard will have to grab it from the market.
More kernels.
The USB tethering fix was a kernel patch so with that and another few minor bug fixes a new batch of Nindroid 2.2 kernels are available. The included in ROM kernel is already up to date. You're welcome.
Better sleep states.
This kernel allows for a deeper sleep when idle not just when the phone is suspended. It should provide a bit of a boost to battery life.
ADW Launcher included alongside LauncherPro.
Since there are weirdos out there who don't consider LauncherPro to be the best launcher since before LauncherPro was invented, you can use ADW. No I will not include more launchers in the future. Two and that's your lot. If you want more ask Santa Claus. Or go to the Market. You might get more luck with the latter. Usually.
Vlingo included.
I don't want to hear whines about including apps people are just going to remove. If you decide to remove Vlingo you might as well remove yourself from the genepool too. Vlingo is awesome. It is awesomely awesome. Vlingo is so awesome I have to brace myself just prior to launching the app. It makes Google's voice recognition look like a partially deaf guy with a hearing aid being affected by radiation from Jeremy Goh's battery semi portable power station.
Themed HTC IME mod.
If you don't like it delete HTC_IME_themed.apk from /system and push the original HTC IME mod. Or theme your own. I don't care. Called it developer's privelage, I included a keyboard that I think looks sweet. It's worth noting that voice input works on this version.
WaveSecure included.
Anyone who doesn't use/like it feel free to delete it but for people with a WaveSecure account it's much better to have it loaded in /system/app. So it is. Yay.
Notification lights improved.
They're still not perfect but the battery LED flashes now for notifications. I personally preferred the 1.2.1 method of jogball for everything and LED for battery. Apparently you lot didn't.
The only bugs I've really noticed with it, is it'll often flash both the LED and the trackball as if it's just detected a nuclear attack. The other bug is if you boot with USB connected and then disconnect USB the LED turns red. This goes away at some point, but I can't remember if it's replugging the USB that makes it go away or a notification turns up while off power. But yeah, thems the breaks.

Ok Im all backed up and ready to give it a go. I just have a few questions.
I don't use the Sense Launcher and have almost nothing on my home screens. just the scrolling dock at the bottom. launcher pro.
What are some things I am going to lose?
What is the differences in the Camera? Details?
What are the differences in the Dialer?
I like the dialer on Fresh 3.2 because of the FB integration.
I don't use 4G
I have not used HDMI as my flatscreen has a CPU connected already.
Is it possible to have the gallery from 3.2 with the FB pictures tab? or is that a sense thing?
Basically I don't know what all is strictly sense.
the default aosp dialer has what i consider to be a fault. you can't just spell out the name of contact. so i started using DialerOne.
dont' forget to check out both CM6 related threads (both are a bit quiet, but will answer many of the questions you may cross...search is your friend)

not sure on the FB stuff since I don't use it except to fill in the pics in my contact list.
give it a whirl. it will be a bit different.
enjoy.
Thanks Draginmagik (sportbike rider?) I had already thought out what I wanted to ask while at work and only had time to ask while on lunch. Figured Id get some input from some people who had used both but your input is appreciated to. I forgot about dialer one. That is one of my favorite things about the dialer I have. I tried Dialer One on The moment but couldn't get it to come up with the green button. I guess thats not a problem with the evo.
A few things ive noticed in Fresh 3.2 Vs Cyanogen mod is that...
Fresh's battery life (by itself, no kernal flashed) is by far the best of any of the ROMS ive used.
I like the sense camera sooooooo much more than the default android camera so thats a no brainer for me.
I do like the AOSP call history though, its much easier to navigate to and through.
Overall, im running Cyanogen right now but ill probably go back to Fresh later tonight... the battery difference is amazing.
Reading a little more I don't see where Sprint vvm / weird text message is there or not. I hated that on the Hero AOSP roms. Also want to get opinions on GPS as i need it to work at the end of this week. I will be flashing this tonight, just want to get some feedback so dont need the "just try it" post. Again, Im just trying to get a comparison so I know what to look for faster after I flash to be sure I like it before I head home this weekend. Once I get on the road and get back home, phone playtime is over until I get caught up at home . hahaha.

Have you tried Kings ASOP kernrel? Im using #3 BFS and its great if I dont use the phone but it seems to suck down pretty quick when the phone wakes up. I'm over the battery thing, I just started carrying my usb cable in my back pocket and hit up a usb plug when I see one. lol But thanks for the info. Ill keep an eye on that too.

Can you explain the difference? I just figured out on the Fresh camera that if you touch the screen it focuses on that spot. Awesome feature. Wish my real camera did that.

not sure how the stock CM6 kernel is. a few days ago the CM6 nightly was upped to the .34 kernel. the custom ROM's are mostly on the .32 kernel still. i ran Kings on CM and it was 'ok'. the UI was smooth but the battery life reminded me of my previous stock kernels. perhaps as he rolls out more kernels that will be adjusted.
Cyanogen wrote the camera app in CM6. it also has the point touch focus. it has been much improved from the default aosp camera.

All nanded up and flashed and restored most of my apps. Pandora sounds great. Ill test it in the shop but in the hotel its loud! I didn't Know that was a feature.
I liked the look of the dialer until the phone rang. YUK!
Im trying to finish up my Manup them but not sure if the ZIP I already have for the notification bar will work with CM6
The camera work good so far, as long as the pictures take good im OK with that. I hate 3d gallery, always have. its on my list of things to fix.
I downloaded the one in the link. Your on nightlys right? do they seem stable enough for you? whats the best way to try those out? The github link is kinda over my head.

Cant forget having the ability to zoom while recording video. That's one of the big pluses of CM.
Well I found that the stock notification bar zip that I had on file won't work. I got the little blue android of death. After a quick reflash of cm6 all is well. still need that manup theme.
i'm on the 9/15 nightly. i think it was the 'swipe away items from the notification bar' feature or maybe a camera update that got me to flash up from the CM6final.
running it with -snap 7.6bfs kernel
currently, the CM6nightlys have slowed down so you just kinda keep an eye on the thread for nifty new features or updates...other than that, it's been very very stable for me since well before CM6final was released.
I am thinking about flashing CM6 this weekend just to see what it's like. I have been on Vaelpak 2.2 and been very happy with it. I tried some of the sense roms first (Baked and Myn mainly) and didn't think I would like a non-sense rom but I am digging Vael w/Launcher Pro and haven't really missed sense.
I know that the ultimate test will be to try it out myself and I plan to. I am also not trying to start another blanket "which one is best thread" but I would like to hear some thoughts from some of you Rom Warriors that have spent some decent time with both to see what I should expect as far as these two are concerned.
Other factors: I am not in a 4G area, HDMI isn't important (right now anyways) and I never listed to the FM radio anyways. I also have one of the Chinese batteries on the way, so as long as the weight of it don't scare me off, I hopefully won't have battery issues with either rom.
With those factors in the mix, can some of you offer your informed opinions of what I should expect to see/miss if I flash CM6?
I think both have new versions cooking (see what I did thar) so just give me your thoughts on the current versions.
Thanks a bunch!
I am doing that right now but I am coming from Fresh. So far don't like it. No Market- so far, I found a "fix" but it doesn't work, so I have a phone with web and that is about it!! Need to search some more but tied up with kids etc...

Did you install gapps, per chance?
AOSP is something you either like or dislike ... there is no middle ground. I have used CM6 extensively, but I also maintain a nice "Sense" rom, for whenever I'm in a 4g area. On that point, I may not need it much longer, as CM6 will be going 4g very shortly. Also looks like HDMI will be working soon ... FM Radio has already been added.
Basic aosp, like in Cyanogen's rom is very quick, very smooth, and just works. You will hear about people who are having an issue here and there, but it's almost always "user error". That doesn't mean that CM6 is perfect, but it is highly evolved and almost there.
Most of the people coming from "sense" will not like it. Although it doesn't have all the widgets and stuff ... almost everything can be replicated. For example, I like the look of the clock/weather widget and so I use "fancy widget", an almost exact replica. I also like launcher pro, and it works perfectly. I could go on and on, but you will need to decide for yourself.
Do a nand back up of whatever you're currently using, and jump in. And don't give up after a couple of hours. As with everything new, there is a learning curve ... and you should do some reading/exploring. Ask lots of questions ... there is plenty of help available ... all be it, with the usual XDA "style". I will leave you with this final thought ... Cyanogen is without a doubt, the foremost Android developer ever.
CM6 will be smoother, less lockups and just overall run better. I haven't run Vael's so I don't know if he uses AOSP contacts and dialer, but I prefer the AOSP contacts and text apps. I download Dialer One from the market to get T9 dialing.
Integration with facebook contacts and twitter is much better on CM6. CM6 may have 4G working soon, FM Radio is working now, and HDMI is close as well. The camera app on CM6 is leagues better than any of the other camera apps.
Just make sure when you install cm6 that you install the Gapps zip since you need that to get maps, market, gmail and the basic google services.
I have a lot of time with both roms. Vaelpak's rom is fantastic and his support is quick and spot on. probably the developer that is the most reachable when you have a problem or question. Very smooth, stable, and fast. CM6 takes a lot of fine tuning to get all the apps you want and get it set up to exactly the way you want it. Its so damn fast and smooth that people in 4g areas run the rom anyway because it's performance out weighs the lack of 4g and hdmi. And snap's kernels and his support team are second to none. When 4g makes it to CM I will run that rom as my daily exclusively on my EVO until the new dual core phones come out or the EVO 2.

I'm mostly a lurker and try not to post much since most any question I have has already been answered (I've spent hundreds of hours on here but only posted a couple of screenshots), but I am looking for a little advice. I have been running CM7 with Tiomat kernel on my Evo for about 2-3 weeks and am pretty happy for the most part, but now I'm getting itchy to try out MIUI for the first time.
1. How does this forum infect people with the insatiable urge to constantly mod? ;-)
2. Any tips on a smooth(ish) transition? This is a pretty subjective question but I figure I will learn more from your answers than in dozens more hours poking around.
You'll be hard pressed to go back to CM.
Get the newest MIUI from MIUI.US
Use Aman Ra, Wipe Everything except SD Card and Battery Stats, if you're not fully charged. Flash MIUI then DT A2SD, if you're partitioned, boot up.
Let it settle, Reboot to Recovery, Flash Kernel (Tiamat 4.1.0 and 3.3.7 Are recommended)
Boot up And have at it.
Hey bonillamktg,
Ive used Miui for a few months as a daily driver and to be honest i loved it, its a simple interface that is easy to use but filled with features. You can overclock it stock with set cpu , out of all the roms i have tried so far i would say it was the smoothest, that flowed the best, the only issue i had was some problems with video recording. but besides that it gave me the best battery life i have ever had over 24 hours on a single charge with the stock evo battery. personally i would recommend it, and I liked it better then CM7 "only my option of course". But I say give it a shot, just nandroid up before hand so you can flash back if you dont like it!
Enjoy, hope I somewhat helped lol
Thanks, HipKat! I just read through your entire Ultimate Guide to Everything Evo 4G and learned a ton. That is probably the single most valuable post I've seen on any forum.
I've already been using Tiamat 4.1.0 and it has been good to me, so I'm glad to hear that it works well with MIUI. I fell asleep soon after posting this but I'm up now so I'll let y'all know the results.
Stevo, your description is exactly what I keep seeing over and over that makes me want to give it a shot. I feel like my setup now is a bit clumsy, it gets the job done but I have to go to 20 different places to tweak everything. Thanks! I'll let you know what the end result looks like!

With or without SBC?
I only use SBC
Yeah and thats what I was reading all about before I gave it a shot to. I say go for it and give it a flash, it really is a nice smooth rom. One thing I forgot to add before when ever I use a sense rom I am normally getting around 150mb free ram, but on MIUI I was getting easily 250mb! & yeah I feel ya, its always a pain to tweak everything to perfection. Well hopefully Miui works out for ya! Your welcome, an thanks for keeping me updated on your journey haha. Good luck
HipKat, wondering if you would know why I'm having an issue. I was actually hoping that this type of feature might be built into MIUI, but I've been using Wallpaper Wizardrii for a little while now because it crops properly for non-scrolling wallpaper and doesn't pixelate...at least not until now. With CM7 & ADW.EX, it worked perfectly, but now, it is pixelating horribly. It's not the images, they are the same ones I used before that worked well.

In ADW ex, do you have the wallpaper hack option turned off? I think that option has something to do with wallpaper quality or color depth or something. You can also try Superwall lite or MultiPicture LWP. They're both live wallpapers, but I've seen no battery drain with either and I've used both. Superwall might be better since you're just using one image.
I get amazing wallpaper quality with MIUI, especially on the default launcher. Clear defaults for ADW or use a home switcher app to see what the wallpaper looks like on the default launcher with the same app. If it looks fine on the stock launcher, it could have something to do with your install of or settings in ADW.
Supersonic Evo 4G | MIUI | Tapatalk
I tried turning off the wallpaper hack and then went back to an image I used to get clearly and it was split in two, basically the left half of the image was moved over to the right.
You are right in how impressive the image quality is on MIUI's stock programming, even using ADW. If I really wanted to, I'd take an image editor, even something basic like MS Paint, and edit an image so it'd be centered where I want it. I change my wallpaper too often for that, though.
I found the Flikie Wallpapers app which has some great wallpapers, but I'll remember Superwall Lite for the future.
Thanks so much for the advice!
Here is where I am at now. I like the combination of Minimalistic Text, Missed It! and Quick Agenda that I put together at the top. I wish I could've integrated the SwitchPro widget into it, but it isn't scaling right for me (It leaves a big gap that I don't like). It's also not letting me edit the images for the switches, which I want to do before integrating it up there.

well i for one have tried the tiomat kernel on the MIUI rom and so far I noticed that my battery drained a little faster than usual. The one thing i did like about it was that i was able to use the hdmi mirroring. But I went back to cyn kernel with miui in the end (^_^)
miui is awesome. i love how many pink themesbthere are...yes im a girl...and how i can customize the theme the way i want it. i promise that you will be addicted. its a lot better than any other rom, and im a flash maniac. i do have a question maybe someone can help me, I'm on the latest miui 1.12.9 when I do group text messaging it force closes? What gives? Any ideas?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well, unless you use the extended settings, wall paper on MIUI does scroll, so maybe the images you're using are being resized improperly. FYI, and you probably know this, but the wall paper size on scrolling desktops for the EVO are 960px x 800px @72 dpi. 480 x 800 for lock screens.
BTW, you should lose the background on your Minimalistic text. or at least turn the opacity way down.
Just saw your post now, and hopefully hipkat can help you more with this, but i think your issue is to do with the rom itself. That is one downside of Miui there is no 720 picture taking and I really want to say the rom it's self has less resolution to it, when using it i did have a lot of low quality things images, and after flashing back to a sense rom I noticed much better quality images within pictures my backrounds and even just certain apps.
Hope that helps a little, is it just wallpaper your having issues with or is it other images?
MIUI is a 180 degree spin from CM completely different but its real nice you will enjoy it very stable and complete. The 1.11.18 version worked great for me then i tried 1.11.25 and had too many issues. By the way can some1 hlp me get a copy of .18 or .12 just to have? I cant seem to find it anywere and i didit save a copy. Thanks.

One reason why I don't use MIUI is because it doesn't have 4G support. So if you use 4G routinely, you may miss it.
True that. No 4G. For me, I don't have it here, anyhow, and have access to WiFi all the time, home and work
Welcome to OverDrive
OverDrive is a ROM me and a few people have been working on for the past few months. This ROM poped-up first in Android Central by me Redbaron, The reason this poped-up was the main fact that there are only a hand full of ROMs for the LG Optimus V, and I am a flashing junkie, meaning I change ROMs like I chew gum, chew it up until the flavor is gone, then spit it out. So here is a ROM created from Stock, and built from the ground up. Having both tested to work on new and older Optimus V's in this thread you can find StockOV which is a rooted and modified running Android 2.2.1 updates are coming soon for this ROM. As for OverDrive, OverDrive is a heavenly modified ROM ported from Stock, running Android 2.2.2 removed all VM's stock apps, kept the Activate app, imported modules and files from kernels for optimum use and performance.
I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR FLAWS IN YOUR PHONE, NOR BRICKED PHONES, YOU DO WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE BECAUSE YOU DO IT. A LITTLE KNOWN FACT DO NOT LG FACTORY RESET!!! UNDER ADVANCED MENU. DO NOT!!

Interesting let me look into that, as for a launcher, I know ADW works great. Please try out GoEX and see what happens, maybe let me know what happens?
Thank you for the complements
Hi there yes im running go launcher i like it. I think when there is alot of apps you have that illusion that its faster because of scrolling. I use horizontal launcher pro setting on this and its pretty nice too. But so far scrolling sideways works best for me. ADW is nice too. The kernel works nice for me too i use 480/806. Battery still seems to be good
I know exactly what you mean, I'm currently working on a custom kernel for OverDrive, I am also working on a custom ROM
I just bought my Optimus V and roms Display a Blackscreen. I can tell they are booting and things seem to work based on sounds but the video drivers are not working with this new phone.
Scratch That, I Just Tried To Install It And It Won't Load For Me Either. Just Getting The Black LG Screen, Please Help (It Was The 2.2.2 Version)
Edit: I'm Trying The v1.0 Now.
Edit: v1.0 Works But 2.2.2 Is What I'm Looking For.
Very interesting, I'm assuming both of you have newer Optimus V phones. Am I correct about this? If so then I need to investigate this issue, because this ROM has been known to work on both old and new phones. So all you guys get is a black screen yet you can hear the start up sounds? Sounds like my kernel needs the latest display drivers for the new Optimus V.

Don't know how handy you are with a kernel but I have but two requests if at all possible.
Multitouch typing is a bit of a pain on the OV. Alot of the times close taps (like C+H on the keyboard) get registered as a slide. Sometimes even further away keys like U+P. Dunno if its possible to fix that in the kernel but it would solve a major annoyance of mine.
The other, being implementation of "Deep Idle". I figured since CDMA eats more battery than GSM when connected, it could grant some extra time on battery.
And lastly, good luck on the ROM. I am stuck with Froyo due to IHO performance/battery woes and outside of my failed attempts to theme BumbleBee as Gingerbread, I've had nothing to look forward to. Will be testing more when you have your kernel up to go with the ROM.
One last Q Iforgot to ask. With regards to your current Stock version, is the Time Without Signal bug fixed there? Overclocking is of no real use to me, so flashing the BB kernel does me no good _for now_ (I could just use BB! ).

Yeah I just bought my phone about a week ago. I can hear the Start up sound and even unlock the phone and start to dial. The Screen is on I can see the back light but The Screen is completely Black. I would assume this is due to the Display Driver issue.

I have been investigating this problem ever since you posted the bug, It would seem the stock kernel is meant for the older phone, but this is an easy quick fix, Give me today to fix this and I will release an update today. Thank you again for your detailed bug report.

I'm a little bit new to kernel development, yet I have experience but I just cracked the book on linux kernels which is the same basis of Android kernels, I can't promise anything, but I can do my best. The multi-touch might not be that hard to work on, as for the "Deep Idle" I will be looking into this and all about it, I have been working on perfecting my ROM(s) before continuing and finishing my kernel development, but I have taken your input into consideration, I think having more then 2 points for multi-touch will be a great advantage, but lets see what I can do. I have no team, no help, and still learning in the process, there are so many things to learn and so little time. As for the "Time Without Signal" I have found this fix for that problem, I don't think my StockOV ROM has the fix yet, because I did port it from the Stock Optimus V ROM. So I will be adding that to StockOV.
Hmm, ok. Obijohn had fixed the TWS bug in the kernel itself; would be helpful to have his BB kernel source. Dunno where he got/how he did the patch though. Would be much better than using the app.
As for multitouch, I think it's just how the phone handles the proximity of the two points. Unsure myself, I am just a power user, but I don't think the phone is capable of more than two points.
I wish your ROMs well. I'll be lying in the bushes in wait to test.

I've been running Bumblebee 2.4 ever since release, and I've tried loads of other ROMS. They all are either too bloated, too slow, crash too often, or have features missing. I've been running 1.1 ever since release and I'm impressed. Works great - fast, and no problems. The new go-to ROM.

Thank you very much, I have spent a great deal of effort towards these two ROMs, I'm happy to know its the new "go-to ROM"
Just installed 2.2.2, so far so good. I installed the OC kernel but don't see any options under Settings to configure OC speed - do I need a particular app, or are the OC speeds not configurable?

You need an Overclocking app,
Search the market for
OverclockWidget, or CPU Tuner.
You can also use ROM Toolbox.
I don't add these apps because everyone uses different overclocking programs, I didn't want another app that takes up space.
Just for the convenience of the user,
Got it. Thanks for the quick reply.
