why was xda down?
i am curious as well, what happened?
This is what I have gathered from twitter and other forums...
The sever(s) were bring updated/maintenance, estimated time was around 15 mins hence why we weren't informed. Clearly something went wrong in the procedure.

Three days is all it takes XD
I freaked out with the rest of ya. I kept checking throughout the day, and finally I did some searching and found out about the maintenance. Scary stuff man, scary stuff
they were all high on skunk weed and a fight broke out over the last cookie. maintenance was just a cover story....
Their was maintenance on SteadFast networks (XDA's Host), router upgrades. the outage went longer than expected. You can read about the issue here:

Psh, thats nothing. I was on a 5 hour car trip from Idaho today with my wife. Things would have been fine, but no xda made me cranky which made both of us cranky.... no fun!
glad the crack is back!
I was going through withdrawal without my daily dose of phone hacking crack
And surely enough my phone crashed completely during xda's downtime so I could not rely on users' input and had to figure all out myself
Ah well, reflashed my phone and wasted a few hours, but I was hoping to find a solution on xda and couldn't figure out why I couldn't connect...

Microsoft sabotaged their upgrade LOL
// if you'd come to IRC, you'd have known the status and reason, we found the reason soon. And so many jokes fell lol.
I felt a combination of being violated and deprived all at the instance i realized my internet connection was'snt to blame. .

Has anybody else noticed how slow the site has been the past 24 Hours? I originally thought it was my ISP doing something, but going to work today the site was still painfully slow! They are on a totally different ISP!
Anybody??
Yep, same here.
Here too. And sometimes i got just a message with 502 bad gateway.
XDA is slow aswell here. I've had the same thing with other forums aswell. I think it happens because we live in a foreign country... idk.
Anyway, it really prevents me from posting frequently...
Same here
Almost 4 min to load any page
Also sometimes bad gateway error 502
EDIT: Now ok again
Sllllllllllllloooooooooooooooowwwwwwwww......!
Very slow here, too.
Took over a minute to load the reply to thread page.
yep!
And sometimes my replys are duplicated, i have saw many duplicated posts this day!
Its on maintenance? i couldnt go to the home page
same thing here
yea i got the same messages with the bad gateway as well as super slow load times. im in the states so it cant be that u guys r over sea's. maybe its the servers. i wonder if any mods know
I´m sure they are aware, Mods and Admin are always keeping an eye here
By the way now it´s working ok, and let´s remember that if something around 5000 users or more are online at the same time, server starts to go slow.
YEP!
everything is fine now... we have XDA devs for more to go!!
I really hope someone is able to fix this.
extreme slowness
bad gateways errors
duplicate posts
Taking a forced coffee break after each page-refresh ain't that good for me
Yep, same here. Very slow!
Yes, its awesomely slow.
Hope its beeing worked on 'cause its unusable at times.
Same problems here...
Russia, Moscow.
XDA are ve-e-ery slow! Already few days. Many times I see "502 Bad gateway", more than few minutes required for loading page and posting answer and many times posted answers are duplicated!
does xda need some new servers? what is xda running on?

Yes, actually around 5500 users online and it begins to slow down. Yesterday was a record breaker with 6270 users online.
Mods were aware, although Mods can't do much about the hardware system. I checked with Admin and indeed they were also aware of the situation. I know a short while back they were working on load balancing across the servers.

Server load too great
Yes thinking about it, every page takes ages to load and has for a few days. Servers have too much to cope with. Is there going to be any upgrade of servers ? The BIG positive is how much in demand this site is. Top work !
Since last night i've started to experience a lot of timeouts. first it started with a vb message saying the site was overloaded, then it became an under maintenance message, and now i'm seeing the site is just timing out.
what gives?
me too. Is xda underupgrading or underattack?
The speed is very very bad..only sometimes it become better
It took 5 minutes to just login
I hope this gets fixed, just bought the XDA app and can't use it .

We're really sorry about this. When you're running a site on a handful of servers, things can get VERY complicated.
I am sure the Admin team is doing it´s best to solve issues ASAP

The site should be back to normal. There is occasional overnight maintenance at around the time you posted. If you are still having issues, please post a tracert to forum.xda-developers.com, so we can see if the delay lies on the route to the server, or if it's the internal networking.
so yeah, only had the thing since this past thursday and now it's gone. i have no idea where i could have left it and had been out & about today going all over the place. i ended up filing a claim($99.. wee!) and am supposed to be getting a new one tomorrow.
the funny thing to is that the last time i had insurance was like 5 - 6 years ago when i had the first RAZR on Verizon and never used it so had cancelled it way back then. when i got this Nexus on thursday i thought to myself "hmm.. well, maybe i should..."
and yes, i've tried to think of the last place i had it & back tracked the past few hours and no luck.
well, if it ended up with anyone else have fun with your bad ESN Nexus!
p.s. i accidentally dropped it a few days ago anyway and it made me sad...
WTH !!!
how can you lose a brand new phone ?
try using the GPS locator
did you enable your google locator in Maps?
i believe there was a phone locator app that could be installed remotely but i do not remember the name.
You should have tried lookout plan b

Asurion, only because the dude at Best Buy Mobile was trying to push their insurance so hard it pissed me off.
oh and about that text thing rcfcyl, is that the only option?... i ask because i have Verizon completely block text messaging on my phone(i don't use txt at all) + always root & delete the messaging apps.
I think there's a web interface as well but I'm not 100% sure about that.

That sucks man! Should have installed a tracker. I lost a phone last year and was able to track it down at a back at a back I was at using Lookout.
i wonder who's the lucky guy that found the free mini-tablet ?
Something smells fishy about this....
You "lost" your phone not long after you "dropped" it. You havnt tried the plan b app which people are telling you to do. Instead u say u asked ur service provider to block all messeging and u say u removed the stock messaging apps....
Shouts insurance scam to me mate..... ide be trying everything to locate my phone. I think you know what happend to it.

i had Verizon start blocking txt msg's last March when i got the Thunderbolt(never ever used txt msg'ing nor cared for it and had heard about people getting txt spam & didn't want to get any txt charges coming through for whatever reason).
as for 'plan b', yeah i hear about that now after i started this thread...(and upon hearing about it and the way it works via 'txt' had asked if there was an alternate way to protect/locate a phone)
and dropping, i guess i'm clumsy with phones. i dropped my thunderbolt like 3 - 4 times, dropped my incredible 2 once and again this time with the nexus. at least with the TB i learned and got a sturdy case for it.. haven't gotten around to doing so with the nexus yet.
but you're welcome to believe what you wish.

Like others have mentioned. Plan B from Lookout Security works well. It will text you it's location even after the phone has been wiped.

Simply reboot! Yes, it's that easy.
Recently my phone has been acting... odd. Basically every reboot reported a completely different battery level. It went like this:
Reboot: 67%
Reboot: 17%
Reboot: 45%
Reboot: 0% (Whhaaat!?)
Reboot: 75%
It was really fun after playing a game that apparently draws just a little too much current, causing it to instantly power off. Fun times.
That's not normal. If your phone is doing that, buy a new battery. From what I've been reading here, it seems like these phones either kill batteries in disproportionate amounts, or we were given lots of bad ones. Seems odd.
Or if u think ur rom is wonky take out ur battery out and try to spin it if it spins then its ur battery

i think what hes tryna say is every reboot shows a diff %.. it is normal to lose some when doing a reboot but not sure how normal it is if you go lower.. then higher.. then 0% then up to 50% lol as the op suggests happened if im reading it right? either way quite useless thread lol theees plenty of battery discussions going on xda.. i thouht this was going to be informative and maybe goin over all different ways to tell if a battery is bad in one thread lol

Unfortunately, it's not quite that easy. For those of us who have a battery that is going bad (starting to bulge) a reboot does not always screw with the battery value, other times it does. :screwy:
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Typically on Reboots you will drop battery % a bit.. Not as drastic as OP is showing... I don't know if it applies on this side so much but on the OG Epic, Since it was first rooted you would sometimes get a false battery % on reboot (Start at 90% before reboot, after reboot shows 20% or less!) Which case reboot, pull battery, toss it in and reboot would clear it. The "Spin Test" is a fairly accurate test. Battery's due bulge after being overheated for so long. So that's a quick indication as well that she's gone. Nice post btw..
Haha. Yeah, it fails the spin test too. I was just shocked that it couldn't get a consistent reading after half a dozen reboots. Didn't have anything handy to do a spin test on the train, so this works too. I haven't flashed for months, so I seriously doubt it's a calibration issue. I've seen charge drop before, but never jump up by 50±%.
I went in to a Sprint store for a replacement, and they had to order one. Really? One of the most popular phones last year, and they don't carry any spare batteries?
Oh well. At least it was free after they confirmed it was bulging.

The problem i think starts when you charge your phone with a charger thats not the one that came with your phone. My battery is OK if im 90% and do a reboot it stays 90% or 89% but one day i had to charge it with another charger and it happened to me. It went from 75% to 20%. I let it go to cero and then charge it with the original one and it fix it. At some point the battery will f#ck uff LOL

Can someone translate this into English?
Just so you know, I did research. That research commonly led to several threads where people complained that their battery percentage suddenly dropped following a reboot. I also experienced this, and thought nothing of it. It is in fact common, especially after a ROM flash. But you'll notice I said nothing of a ROM flash, nor did I complain about the drop in percentage itself.
It's the fact that the percentage acts like a yo-yo. I rebooted about 10 times while on the train home from work, and every time, the charge was effectively a random number between 0 and 80. I say 80 because that's the highest number I saw during those reboots. When I finally got home, I was able to spin my battery on a flat surface, confirming my earlier suspicion.
Since you're so enlightened, flush with the knowledge of all Samsung devices and their numerous quirks, perhaps instead of ridiculing us, you could point out some of the "research" we're missing?
Wait... let me try putting it your way:
"[email protected]! I liek red all teh threads, yo! lolololl! Teh % geos up, too! srsleeee, no disrespec but my bat was bad bcus it spun man so i guess i was right lololololo!!1!!eleventy!!"

Wife's phone has been having the same issues. Went in to Sprint, they saw the battery was bulging and wanted to run additional diagnostics. They said it would take an hour and a half, when we came back they said all problems are caused by the battery. Sprint didn't have any in stock and recommended we try Batteries+ who also didn't have any in stock. Going to try the Anker batteries recommended in the E4GT Accessories forum.
Hey every one. My wife has a totally stock Note 2. Its fully up to date from the last OTA. Its actually a warranty exchange since her first hand sets microphone stopped working..
So since yesterday her device has been randomly gong into airplane mode.. You can turn it off but it will switch back again in just a few minutes. She has had it just over a week and this just started yesterday.
She barley has any apps installed. And hasn't downloaded aided anything has permissions for changing that state..
I factory reset it. But that doesn't seem to have helped.
Any ideas? Should we just exchange it again?

50 minutes might be a bit small for a time window to judge helpfulness... that being said I would say you made the right call. It definitely should not be doing that, and it seemed you already ruled out any sort of app or custom tinkering that may have driven such odd behavior. Hope the "third time's the charm" idiom holds for you on this one!
