on the t-mo forums it seems that someone has talked to customer service and they said that they are releasing an update to fix some problems that people had with the previous update and adding HSPA+ support. but no mention of froyo so idk we will see i guess
Ok just called 611.
The OTA system has been down since yesterday.
No one knows when it will be running again but when it does the update will be sent out on Mondays, Wednesdays & Friday evenings..
The update is just a lot of fixes for what the other update caused..
Genius Button, Freezing, My Fave, Voice commands, Wifi, Phone Call log..
Nothing special really .. but defo not Froyo.

This person was me, lol. This information was delivered from Tier 3 Technical Support. I also found out some heft info regarding my Vibrant as well. Customer Service Reps and any technical support below really don't know much as opposed to that level. I was surprised... But nevertheless, allow me to explain.
A lot of MTS owners have been reporting signal fluctuations and that's because of what I had said about this previous update locking the signal to HSPA. Well, that was a test update in that regard because it was all to test the server load. (It's not handling it well, lol...) So this next patch will fix many of the bugs and will allow the MTS to use the HSPA+ servers. I have an ETA for Froyo on my Vibrant but not the Slide, sorry.

Well, I don't know if you've heard but there were rumors of the GPS fix to be baked into Froyo. Sadly, that isn't the case. There will be the GPS patch this month (which is rumored to begin getting pushed around the 17th-20th) and then there will be another sub-patch (which is for the battery meter, address book force closes, multiple contacts and plenty of other bugs) released once the GPS fix is complete.
Then we've got October and that's when T-Mobile is planning on starting the rollout for Froyo. It is to be completed before the middle of November. I suppose this is all factoring minimal to no issues with the OTA's coming out prior.
Sidenote: With this whole Cliq debacle, I was told that from this point forward T-Mobile will try to focus their Android lineup on mostly vanilla Android. (I wouldn't mind more Sense devices though. I personally don't care for Espresso but my wife loves her slide and the UI.) They are really having to bite the bullet since the Behold II and now the Cliq's promised update to 2.1 from Q2 which it's now almost Q4 with no update.

Why do they insist on giving on these worthless updates, instead of working on an actual Froyo rom? They waist their time on something that's like 20MB, when that time could be used for something else..Other HTC phones are getting 2.2(inc sense). There are minor diff b/t sense & espresso, excluding faves, genius,themes,etc...

They have different teams that work on the software of the device. For example they'll have a team who test in-market software while others work on testing and developing for future software.
Give these guys a break. They work hard at what they do.
Thanks for the response everyone, I will leave this topic up for future updates to the slide up to and including froyo.

Yes, there is an OTA on the way... CR has seen it in-person. No, it's definitely NOT Froyo. Nothing overly exciting, but for those people who run stock-like ROMs it will definitely be an upgrade.
My letter (linked here) is to address a specific time-line for Froyo rollout on our device.
siccmade, can you PLEASE get in touch with ChiefzReloaded or myself ASAP? My GTalk is nbetcher (at) gmail [dot] com. Thanks!

False alarm everyone... still need someone to pull the OTA once they get a notification. Note: if you get a notification on anything other than: Stock or CR_Mod then it's likely a bug. Please download the OTA package, but make sure to NOT apply it!
Thanks everyone.

yeah true. However tmo would not be the first to go back on their word. I have called and complained alot about not getting upgrade and I never get a real answer
Use NB_Mod, it's the leaked 2.2 update.
The HTC Slide is quite a lot of phone for the money. Easily enough for many android users.
If T-mobile gives an update, how will they sell you a new phone?
I think this whole leaving out official release updates will start to be a trend. Unless you have one of the official google phones (Nexus one/S) i wouldn't expect too many updates in the future.
Froyo should be coming. I don't believe it's said that they will never release it. Just gotta keep waiting for it maybe by June(year after release) we'll see it.
If you really don't want to be sitting there waiting for it, As musicman said use the NB_Mob.
I haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, and yes, I know there's another thread about the "confirmed" Dec update from a top dev but I figured this is worthy of its own thread. Sounds like the update might only be for the GSM versions of the phone, and we might have to wait for our specific Epic Touch update, but things must be close at this point.

Indeed my friend.
Sent from the future.
Carriers hold back updates??? They would never do such thing.
I know some updates the carrier has to purchase from the manufacturer and some are free. I don't quite understand where the dividing line is but having to pay for an update would surely slow down a carrier's intention of pushing an update.
Warning about updates

Amen brotha!
Once the first XDA user who knows what they're doing gets an update, it will be posted here so fast that many will find out about it here, not by getting it via OTA. They push them out over several days so most likely there will be a full stock tar to Odin before many of us get it.

Because the international version is getting something first?
Okay.... the international version also came out first.
The international versions of Samsung devices always get it first.
Samsung has proven time and time again that they are more concerned about the international market than they are the U.S.
It's funny how quickly people forget about history when trying to assign blame.
It's like XDA members live their lives to blame the carriers for everything.
Dammit, it's raining and cold out side, stupid Sprint!
It does make me wonder why AT&Ts Skyrocket just got 2.3.6 pushed to it on 11/22 though, which was released almost 2 months after Sprint's E4GT. Then again, why the Skyrocket and not AT&T's non-LTE GSII? Who knows why these guys do what they do.

agreed. I don't think this is an epic fail at all. It seems like there is a 26 day turn around time from testing to roll-out. If anything remains consistent, I'm hoping we see jelly bean sometime mid august.

I can see why people are ungrateful.
First "fix" is developer speak for, "we are tweaking the visuals on your signal bars without actually doing anything helpful."
Second one is to support a Sprint app that I am sure is pay-for.
Last one is a simple toggle preference which I believe is nothing more than a build.prop edit.
Lets not forget what they aren't telling you: That local search will be gimped.
Yeah, I would be pissed and ungrateful too.

Is it really an update? RSSI indicator mod? That is not fixing any type of signal for your phone. It just sounds like a graphic fix to make you feel better.
Wi-fi and LTE defaulted on. I guess this is for the people who do not know they needed to turn it on. Now it will turn automatically once updated. Thing is, unless you are one of the 6 people to be in an LTE market will this really effect you? Bottom line is they need to gimp search and they are probably pressured to do it in a timely fashion. If not for that, you would not be seeing an update.
This is on update that Sprint can have first over Verizon. I will keep my search for now, thank you!
Its a epic fail because of the Be they feed you to update so they can fix some things with out you knowing. How are they not able to just say were going to take search off and give you some pretty lights for signal bars. How does it effect me. I'm with everyone else who thought they were buying pure Google phone. I keep lte off because I don't live in a lte area.
So like he said ^^^ how would this update have anything to do with me.

IMO, It really doesn't matter! I have used JB and ICS on my phone, and other than Google Now, I don't see the need to update to JB.
I look at it like this... the standard consumer is not rooted. The OEM and carrier have to smooth out bugs, and make the transition from ICS -> JB a seemless integration. This makes for a better customer experience.
Thats the business man... why release a sub par product and have thousands of support tickets for small minor issues.
From your sig, you're running JB already.
Pretty depressing if you ask me. God if the new nexus phone wasn't being made by LG I'd probably be all over that thing at this point.

Telus' S3 will get JB before the end of November, so I'm thinking we should be very close by.
Full application of project butter in an official release of jb will be worth it. Only reason my nexus is still stock is that the only rom on the s3 that comes close to matching its fluidity, for me at least, is tasks aokp. It's night, and day. Slow rollouts of software are just one of those burdens of this era in development. Fortunately, the software is beginning to be more, and more worth it. Someday you'll lecture your grandkids on how we didn't have all this fancy "cognitive request firmware updates, and 5tb/second data speeds" lol

By the time we even get Android 4.1, Android 4.2 will already be out in the market.
First, 4.2 will not be key lime pie.
Second, its not Samsungs fault, its the carriers.
And being the carriers fault - you have to wonder. Do they each only have like 2 people working on the Updates...or wtf. lol

Because when there is a bug in CM, they can go *shrug*, we'll add it to the known issues list, like the bluetooth audio not working right. When there is a bug in a carrier supplied ROM, think of all the people that are going to want to call AT&T and be like 'Hey this isn't working, FIX IT!'. That costs money to pay the customer service people and it costs money from a PR point of view.
The carriers strive to make things as bug free as possible (which, is laughable considering some of the updates some carriers have pushed out, or even the state of a phone at release *cough*G2x*cough*). If they don't do super extensive testing on everything BEFORE the release, they're going to have to do the same testing AFTER the release, but after it costs them money in customer service and PR image.
It sucks that another manufacturer/carrier is delaying the update. Do we buy a phone on the promise/hope we will see the next update? I don't. "Why am I not getting update XX" seems to be a common complaint. I came from the Atrix 2. Motorola promissed ICS and an unlockable bootloader. The phone is now borderline if not already end of life with At&t and is just getting the ICS update and still a locked bootloader. I bought my GSIII with the thought "cool I will get JB" but didn't care when. With all of the leaks available, if you want JB, you can get it. Seeing some of the bugs in the leaks, do you really want that to be your update? If you got the update and had these bugs, thered posts of "how could they release this buggy version?" Don't get me wrong, I would like to see manufactures and carriers stand by their word, but I realize there are more important things to worry about than why my update is delayed or not getting it. If you want a phone that guarantees you'll see an update, get a ,cough cough, Iphone. Not all features may work but hey, you'll get your update. My one and a half cents and a THANKS to the hard working devs that bring us these leaks and roms (FOR FREE) to satisfy our need to update. YOU GUYS ROCK!

1) How do you know JB for the AT&T GS3 is delayed until 2013? No one has given a release date. Heck, it might be 2014 or 2015. It's misleading to post a title like that.
2) "Coming months:" this ambiguity goes both ways. Sprint released their GS3 JB OTA update today.
3) AT&T is taking long to update their bloatware?! There are three stupid apps: AT&T Hotspots, AT&T Messages, and AT&T Navigator. AND AT&T's already released the Note 2, which comes with Jelly Bean. Thus, these apps have already been updated to work with Jelly Bean!
The holdup on AT&T's part is something else...

Darn it! I thought it was JB since I read an article that US S3 was beeing updated over the OTA. Oh well..
chat with the ATT rep regarding JB rollout for ATT. This is the second reference I have gotten from a ATT rep that says the update may "affect the network" and that "if it does have an adverse affect it will not be released."
You are now chatting with 'Paul Goss'
Paul Goss: Thank you for completing the pre-chat survey. I will be happy to help you out with any of your issues today.
Paul Goss: Once it is made available to AT&T customer you will receive a text message letting you know.
RICHARD THOMAS: Just following up on a chat I had this AM. I understand you have nothing to do with the update but why can sprint roll out JB for the exact same device months earlier than ATT?
Paul Goss: Once the phone manufacturer releases the software we then test it over our network and once that is done we will then release for customers.
RICHARD THOMAS: by the release from sprint the software is or has been released by the manufacturer. The motorola Atrix fiasco has put a bad taste in my mouth. We were promised a update from motorola and ATT for almost a year and on the last day told we would not receive it. I just kind of get the feeling that ATT is going to do the same thing with this phone. I don't have much faith in ATT at the moment.
Paul Goss: Sorry you feel that way however before we can release we need to know how it will affect the network. Our network is much bigger and much more complex then Sprint there fore it requires more testing. if it does have an adverse affect then it will not be released.
RICHARD THOMAS: so we can expect to possibly NOT get a android Jelly Bean release?
Paul Goss: I have no knowledge or control over that. I can only say were in the process of testing it. The results are not given to us until it is released.
RICHARD THOMAS: you are the second tech that has told me that it might have an adverse effect on the network.
Paul Goss: Was there any other questions or concerns I can address today?
Paul Goss: Hopefully shortly we'll get notice that it is being released.
RICHARD THOMAS: no. Just a little disappointed in the amount of time that it is taking ATT to approve a software update on its customer's phones. Last anyone heard it wouldn't be until 2013
Paul Goss: Regretfully I can not comment on that as I have not been given that information.
Paul Goss: Once it is released you will be given notice.
RICHARD THOMAS: very well, thank you for chatting. please inform your supervisors that customers are getting irritated by the slow pace of updates. Not that anyone in corporate cares once they get our money.
Paul Goss: We do caret the last thing we want is for you to update the software and ending with a phone that does not work or work properly. I'm sure the last thing you want to do is go a week with out a phone while the company sends out a new one to replace the nonworking one.
RICHARD THOMAS: I agree just not convinced that is all.
RICHARD THOMAS: remember I had the motorola atrix that was abandoned half way through my contract.
RICHARD THOMAS: Thank you for taking the time to chat. I will not bother you further today.
Such a load of BS. This is obviously what they are instructed to tell people when they ask about updates to their phone. Guess what? People install custom ROMs on their phones and it doesn't "affect the network". Although at this point I wish it did and brought the network to its knees so AT&T corporate would actually get off their butts and do something.
I wouldn't sweat it. With sprint already releasing their version, we could see ours anyday now. I hope its by end of this weekend. Would make a nice surprise.

I'm already working on it. But there is a funky issue with the kernel I believe. When you hold the phone in landscape mode the screen is upside down. I'm going to try but from what I'm hearing from some kernel devs is that it can't be done without source

How about editing your thread title to "I jumped the gun" or something similar.
OP should have changed the title
