Can anyone help me out i was trying to downloading a new software upgrade for my mda pro and the computer froze on me no the phone is stuck with the screen saying with no light on serial at the top of it and at the bottom it say v2.01 but when i put the usb cable in or charge it it says usb on the screen instead of serial.The programme crash and now i cant ger out of that screen ive just told u about.I can do i hard restet and the light goes on saying press 0 to restore factory default and press x to exit.
When i press 0 it just goes back to the 1st screen i jst told u abt.With no light on and cant get light on or do anything with it.HELP i think when the update crashed on me it crashed the phone to and just kept on that screen with the serial on it.ACTIVE Sink will not work anymore when i put cable into the comptuer with my phone so updaing my phone agine will not work.Can anyone please point me in the right place to fix this promblem.Many thanx mono33

If this software upgrade was ROM upgrade, you're stuck in the Bootloader - check out the answers in the wiki and in the Universal Upgrading thread.

If you have reached the bootloader mode and the word 'serial' changes to 'USB', you are in luck. Only before you connect to PC for upgrade open Active Sync on the PC and go to File / Connection Setting and UNCHECK 'allow USB connection' Checkbox. Then connect your device and follow the upgrade procedure. Actually you have posted this in the wrong forum. This should have been in the upgrade forum. Upgrade is not difficult. Please do let us know if you require any further help.

I have a xda2 exec. I tried to update my rom, the congratulations screen displayed with a checking informaton on device message, this froze for some time so I disconnected the usb cable. when I tried to reset it, I get is a dispaly with just colours on it and it does nothing else, when I try to update again it shows an error connection error 101, also the device is not recognised. Is there a way to resolve this issue please and can someone be kind enought to direct me.

Try to hard reset your device
hold buttons: "-" + "-"
and then reset
so in practical terms, push the top 2 dash keys which are between your green and red phone icon buttons, and while holding them reset your device using the pen.
this should give you a white screen with a little menu.
You can now select clear device or something, I think it's the 0 or the X
it should work
if that doesn't work try to put your device in Bootloader
buttons: Backlight (front little button) + power button + reset button (with your pen)
again, hold the backlight and power button, then reset button
the screen should be dark, but if you look real close it would say USB or Serial v1.0 or v1.1 or something
you should be able to flash now using the tool

To both members above, thank you for your time. I am now using the update tool, hopefully this will now work. I used the method pressing the light button and power and reset. (Bootloader)
my xdalls is dead ,i cannot hard or soft reset it,an orange light comes on when i put it in the cradle,the screen is black and says serial at the top and v 2.08 at the bottom ,could someone help me please ,i have read as much as i can but nothing seems to work tia

I have previously checked out the posts you directed me to and either i am stupid and dont understand or my problem is different?Anyway what i see my problema as being is that i cannot perform a hard or soft reset by the usual methods ,also active sync dosnt pick up my device so i cannot install any operating system including my original version,i am trying not to believe that i have ruined my device because as a disabled pensioner i rely so much on it and cannot afford to replace it,i have spent hours aquiering the software that i need to help me with my disability and time spent in hospitalsd and waiting rooms,once again thank you for giving me some hope and i would appreciate any further advice

Unfortunately i do not have a blue angel so my attempts to help are limited but what i would suggest is to fully charge the pda overnight and then remove the battery for ten-twenty mins.
Then try and put it in bootloader mode (after you have reinserted the battery and turned it on).
If you can get this far attatch it to your usb (let any drivers install on their own on pc) and flash the same rom the handset came with.

actually you are "IN" the bootloader mode... it's the UI for flashing.
Serial... means your USB cable isnt detecting any PC connection.
Orange led means you're phone is charging, that's a good sign.
try charging it for a long time and wait if it becomes green.
then if and when your battery is full...
take your battery out for at least 30-40 mins,
if your backup battery is old... and you know how fast it could drain out
you can use that time instead of the 30-40 mins...
put the battery back...
press and hold the record button + the power button...
now stick the reset.
use a separate synch cable.
then flash your phone again.
if that doesnt work...
search for MTTY...
i dont know the particulars but i think you'll find it somehow

1. Download mtty v1.42 from http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/XDA/mtty1.42.rar
2. Stop ActiveSync, by Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Delete) kill two processes rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
3. put your device into Bootloader Mode by pressing Power + Record Button and Soft Reset.
4. Run mtty (from downloaded) Choose WCEUSBSH001 (If you only see COM 1 and COM 2, try unplugging the USB and replugging it)
5. type "set 14 0" without the quotes to tell bootloader to boot the OS after reset.
6. type "task 28" to get your device formatted (only do this is if you dont mind losing all data on the BA)
7. type "task 0" to ask your device reboot
8. take the device out of the cradle, and manually reset it if it does not do that already.

Thanks for your reply,but i cannot Choose WCEUSBSH001 when Run mtty.exe,i can choose Com 3 but when i type in your instructions it tells me to "Please input command name in menu Auto first" ARRGGGHHH! i am going crazt,but i realy appreciate yout time and effprt to my problem,it is wonderful to have some hope of getting it up and running as i am so lost without it,once again any help or suggestions appreciated
did you kill both process in task manager?
Have you tried to unplug the device wait ten seconds and then plug it back in?

kinda new to this myself mate but had a similar problem recently.
firstly, it sounds like your OS has gone....the screen you can see basically means there is nothing to 'boot' to.
'serial' should change to 'usb' once plugged into the pc before you can start active sync and reloading an OS.
try, if possible, a different usb port if that fails is there any chance you could borrow another cradle to check that the usb side is ok?.
another thing i did not see mentioned (may have missed it), if you push power + soft reset together and as soon as you see the boot loader press record + camera at the same time, if this works it will show 3 options, first one should remain 'no' the next 2 should be changed to 'yes', (record moves down the options, camera changes the setting) then press the 'mail' button.
this should clear the BA (losing any saved data etc) but might 'wake it up' so the pc will recognise it again and allow you to reload.
if it is showing 'serial' and charging then i doubt it is broken beyond repair, just one of those annoying problems that comes with technology.
i upgraded to WM6 with no problem, it was as i tried to downgrade back to 2003 i got my problems, it appeared as if i had wrecked my BA but re-read all help/instructions a few times and managed to get it sorted, dont give up hope, just keep going over it.....i am sure you will get there, good luck.

I´m new to this forum, but has been searching and reading some in this and other forums and whanted to try the new wm6_4700_release4. I cant use the sync/charging port, its broken. So read that it is possible to use a SD card to flash the ipaq, but i cant seem to get it to work, tried even och couple of computers, even with win98.
So if there is someone that could give me some guidence would be really helpfull.

Hi, you'll first need to get the rom on the SD card. I found a tool that does this called SD_IMG.rar. Once you have the image on the sd card follow these steps.
1) Power off the 4700 with the SD image card in the ipaq.
2) Put the Ipaq into BootLoader Mode. To do this press the Contacts + Mail + iTASK buttons at the same time and hold all of them. Then shortly press the Reset button on the bottom and release all of them. The screen with HP logo in the middle will appear having the bootloader version at the bottom and the text “Serial” on the top.
3) You will see as the ROM flashing starts – the percentage should be increasing (very slowly).
4) When complete Apply the hard-reset. To do this press and hold the Contacts + Mail and then shortly press the Reset button on the bottom and release all of them. Press Calender to confirm hard reset.

Hello, I've been following the hx4700 thread but haven't posted or written. I would love the SD_IMG.rar file if you could. I don't know if i need to leave my e-mail or not. Please help me out

I posted this in another forum... but hope its better suited here.
My Father has an SPV M5000 (HTC Universal). He has unlocked the SIM lock from IMEI number some time ago.
Recently it started going screwy and so he did a soft reset and then it wont turn on at all.
He has let me play with it and if I try a hard reset it comes up with the screen saying "press 0 to restore...", but if you press 0 it says "clearing now" and then appears to switch off. If you press x it also appears to switch off.
You can enter bootloader mode and it displays SERIAL on the screen - when you plug it in to a PC the screen changes to USB. But when I try connecting using MTTY I get no USB port - although selecting COM5 seems to open a command prompt window - but to be honest I dont know where to go from here.
If I try a soft reset it seems to do nothing - although the orange charging light blinks once.
With it connected to a PC in bootloader mode I was able to reflash the ROM and it went through all three stages correctly and indicated it had been successful - but when you finish with a hard reset it appears to turn off.
Before I use it to wedge my living room door open, can anyone offer any advice? I have perused the forum, but cannot find anything which seems to match the fault I am getting.
I know its not the battery as I have the same model and the battery is new.
I suppose if nothing can be done... does anyone have any ideas what to do with it now?
