It took me days and days researching this...lol. I found three possible issues...the first, and most common, is renaming your backups. Apparently that screws it all up, so don't rename them. Second, your battery is too low...it has to be at least 40%. I never renamed and I was fully charged - but still got the error, and when I tried to restore via adb I got an sd card error. In MY case, I had gotten a new 16gb sdcard and it wasn't formatted or partitioned properly...I had to copy everything off if it onto a folder on my PC, format it (FAT32) via PC, put it back into the Evo, reboot into Amon Ra recovery via Rom Manager, select "partition sd card" - let that work- then select SD:ext2 to ext3...wait till that was done, reboot. Then I mounted as disk drive to the PC, copied everything back to the sd card, and viola...it finally worked. I don't know why it did it, I had 2 of the exact sd cards...brand, class, etc. Hopefully that works for you!
ahhhh the battery explain it hahaha

BUMP: I'm having the same problem, used gparted to repartition sdcard which allowed me to Mount USB storage. When i try to mount /sdcard card i receive
Code:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk1)
(Invalid argument)
Error mounting SDCARD:!
Are you using setcpu? I had same message the other day when in clockwork. I had an idea to try to set speed back to stock and unchecked set on boot, rebooted in to clockwork and all was well. Not sure if the clockspeed and and set on boot has anything to do with it, but I had a feeling that it messed with backup/restore when writing/reading a custom speed specified to boot with. Anyway it worked for me on virtuous with 7.28 radio and kings bfs 5
Had the same issue... Formatted the SD card (using the phone, under settings/sd card) and it never happened again.

to follow this up, i was experiancing similar problems
like an idiot i ejected the SD card with the power on (bad idea) and had to format it
the card worked fine under my rom (miui) but when i booted into clockwork mod v4.something
i unmounted the SD card in the phone options and formatted it, after re mounting it the phone gave me a notification that the SD card was an unsupported format
so what i did was click that notification and format the card again
i booted into recovery and it worked, i hope this helps someone in the future

So why are you posting in a Forum devoted to the HTC Droid Incredible?
Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk error
I received a replacement Dinc from Verizon under the extended warranty. My problem is that the new phone won't backup or restore under CWM. I get a notice that "E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblkp1p (or mmcblk)
My old phone was rooted with the 2.3.4 version 4.06 GB stock rooted ROM. I made a nandroid backup with CWM recovery 5.0.0.6. So far all is good. The replacement phone with amoled screen came with GB 2.3.4. (unrooted and s-on.) Following the directions in Droid Forums I downgraded to 2.2, rooted using unrevoked3, turned s-off with unrevoked forever and reinstalled 2.3.4 version 4.06. All files found from links of XDA. (THANKS to all for the great instructions and files.)
But now on the new phone the nandroid backup and recovery from CWM won't work as I get the above error. II read that the sd card needs to be reformatted but when I put it back in the old phone, CWM works well without the error. Any suggestions?

I would first try to format your sdcard fat32, but dont put any of the old files back on yet. Then with the blank sdcard inserted try to run a backup and see if it works. If not try reflashing cwm thru hboot. Also make sure you have superuser and busybox installed. mmcbkk0p1 is the data partition, see if you can manually mount it thru recovery in the mounts and storage menu.

Its mmcblk1p1 he said. That isn't the data partition . I think it is sdcard. I think an sdcard format will do the trick.

I rooted my HTC EVO 4g using Unrevoked, it worked fine, then I decided to flash a new rom, followed all the steps and I backed up my stock and wipe data/factory reset and Davik, now my phone doesn't read the sd card, is not even connecting throw usb, not even for charging.
Took the sd card out and did a FAT32 format (4 times already), downloaded the new zip to it and still not reading.
Can't do a restore because I re-formated the sd card and is not reading anyways.
I have another SD card and same thing happens.
As soon as I check install zip from card it reads
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /sdcard
Please help, I'm stuck.

You should probably use Amon RA recovery. Just go to ROM Manager and flash it from there.

I don't have access to my phone, I can only go to H BOOT or Recovery.
If I connect my USB it reads HBOOT USB PLUG, and because I deleted the stock ROM, I can't send any info to the phone.
It is possible that the debugging is not even on and I can't turn it back on without access to the phone.
I have noticed the the sd card in me EVO is kinda funny. If I push it in all the way my phone won't read it. If I push it in then close the little latch then kinda pull it straight out with my fingernail until the back is right up against the plastic in the slot it reads it. Try that...it might be your problem. If not I would RUU back to stock and take it back to Sprint and get a new one.
That's funny, after all this time, I had to buy another EVO, this time got rooted and flashed myn's warm two point two, played with different kernel's and my new phone is working great.
Still try to figure out how to fix the problem, I think I'm not the only one that had to purchase a new phone after screwing with it.
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears, I would like to fix this so I can help someone else.
Mmm i had the same problem and i found a links where u can fix that. But i see than im too late..

didnt think much of it, until i thought about how many times ive had to remove my sdcard because im too lazy to buy a usb cable for my phone. did the trick, thx
Hi all.
I have a clockworkmod problem -
Following an update i applied, i cannot boot past android launch screen. no problem i thought, i had just made a backup from clockworkmod )). So i rebooted into recovery, and selected restore - the clockworkmod tells me i have no backups (there were 3 backups at least there...). the sd card mounts to clockworkmod as i can see its contents when browsing for a zip to install.
I then went to reinstall the rom from fresh, but as i dowloaded through rom manager, i can only see the 7.0.3 cyanogen update, not the full rom...
So i'm stuck with my desire unable to boot - i cant copy over a backup or rom image, and there are no backups on my card (but there were!!!).
Any ideas?
ps , yes i have used search but can't find anything that'll help me.
Ignore.

You can always take your SD card out of the phone, and using a memory card reader (or similar), download a ROM on your PC and copy across to your SD card. Put it back in the phone and boot into recovery and flash away...
Good Luck

yeah i thought that would be possible, just don't have a micro-sd reader...
is ther any other way of getting data onto the sdcard without using a card reader?
What did you update?
You could use fastboot to push the ROM file to your sd card.
And / or use recovery to mount the sdcard.

i attempted to flash lordmod kernel + PUV mod. i knwe that the PUV can be problematic, so backed up before i flashed. the backup complete, and i flashed the kernel. after finding the kernel wasn't working, i went to restore and no backups there at all...
looking up restore via fastboot now. only problem i have a mac, but could run it via VM...
maybe quicker to drive to the store to get a reader!!
OK, finally got fastboot working on my mac, device recognised as "HT11MRX11410 fastboot"
i have nothing shown with "adb devices"
How do i flash a rom or a clockworkmod backup to this device using fastboot?

I rooted my EVO 4G about two months ago and flashed CyanogenMod. I decided to try MIUI, which resulted in an endless boot. I restored from my backup and all was fine. Tonight, I tried again. Same problem. So I tried doing what is explained here. Clockwork Recovery is now gone (which I assume was the point of that file) and I can no longer even boot into CM7 (it also endlessly reboots).
I figured I would just download a CWR zip file and flash it again. However, I cannot get my computer to access the SD Card when mounting it with the Recovery. I can buy a card reader if needed, but I have no other way of accessing the card.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The current recovery is unsuccessful when attempting to restore or do anything, really. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You cannot restore backups made with CWM through Amon Ra, or vice versa. You need to get Clockwork back on your phone, or another rom to flash. I'm assuming you tried booting into recovery, plugging the phone into the computer, and selecting "USB-MS toggle" from the recovery menu? If so, and it still isn't recognized, best bet is to get a card reader. If you have a slot for an SD card on your computer, you'll just need a micro SD to SD adapter. If you don't have an SD card slot, you'll need that and a card reader.
Put the PC36IMG of Clockwork on the card and flash it, then restore -or- put a new rom on the card and flash that.
My guess is that your download was corrupted and you had a bad flash.
Or you can flash a "Real" recovery and push amon ra 2.3 via adb usb without needing your sdcard. Just start from scratch and get rid of those lame clockwork nandroids you own........after you push it via adb just wipe.
Only click that link if you feel worthy of amon ra!

I'll get a card reader after work tomorrow. A day without a phone will certainly be a challenege. ha
I don't think it is the ROM that I am having issues with. It is definitely something with my phone because multiple ROMs (MIUI, VirusROM Kingdom, and now CM7) all went into endless boots. Could you or someone else confirm for me that the below (yay for not being able to post outside links) is what I will need to bring back CWR?

Here's a link to a newer version of ClockworkMod. I didn't follow the link, but I saw 2.5.0.4. I believe the version in my Dropbox is 3.0.0.5
http://db.tt/9sksyTK
Also, once you're up and running, I'd suggest flashing Amon Ra. If multiple roms are giving you bootloops, then it may be that you're not (or Clockwork isn't) wiping properly. If you still have a rom on your SD card, try going into recovery and wiping everything in the wipe menu except for the SD card, battery stats, and rotate settings. Then, do it again. Flash zip from SD card, choose the rom, then press power to confirm. See if that'll at least get you a working phone. If you then want to download ClockworkMod and flash it to restore, you can. But hopefully that'll give you a working phone.
Let us know how it turns out for you.

I am having problems doing a nandroid backup. I have done back ups in the past with no problems. I am on Rogue Et Recovery 1.1.2 (cwm V.5.0.2.7)
This is how I'm doing it.
I go into recovery and I go to backup. I tried doing the advance back up but on but I get Error Mounting Backup Path!
Any reason why I'm getting this Error or am I doing something wrong?
By default, that recovery tries to write to your SD card. Try switching to internal storage and then backup
Yeah, I'd agree, switch to the internal storage. I did that too before I realized that when it says sdcard it doesn't mean /sdcard it actually means a card that you added after you bought the phone.
This is so much different than the GNex as far as programming is concerned. Is it because of the Sprint Network? Anyway, thanks for the tip. I took the sd card out of the phone when I did the root process and forgot to put back in.
