[Q] Clockworkmod Restore Problems - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I have a clockworkmod problem -
Following an update i applied, i cannot boot past android launch screen. no problem i thought, i had just made a backup from clockworkmod )). So i rebooted into recovery, and selected restore - the clockworkmod tells me i have no backups (there were 3 backups at least there...). the sd card mounts to clockworkmod as i can see its contents when browsing for a zip to install.
I then went to reinstall the rom from fresh, but as i dowloaded through rom manager, i can only see the 7.0.3 cyanogen update, not the full rom...
So i'm stuck with my desire unable to boot - i cant copy over a backup or rom image, and there are no backups on my card (but there were!!!).
Any ideas?
ps , yes i have used search but can't find anything that'll help me.

Ignore.

You can always take your SD card out of the phone, and using a memory card reader (or similar), download a ROM on your PC and copy across to your SD card. Put it back in the phone and boot into recovery and flash away...
Good Luck

yeah i thought that would be possible, just don't have a micro-sd reader...
is ther any other way of getting data onto the sdcard without using a card reader?

What did you update?
You could use fastboot to push the ROM file to your sd card.
And / or use recovery to mount the sdcard.

i attempted to flash lordmod kernel + PUV mod. i knwe that the PUV can be problematic, so backed up before i flashed. the backup complete, and i flashed the kernel. after finding the kernel wasn't working, i went to restore and no backups there at all...
looking up restore via fastboot now. only problem i have a mac, but could run it via VM...
maybe quicker to drive to the store to get a reader!!

OK, finally got fastboot working on my mac, device recognised as "HT11MRX11410 fastboot"
i have nothing shown with "adb devices"
How do i flash a rom or a clockworkmod backup to this device using fastboot?

[Q] HELP - Can't flash ROM or backups through CWM Recovery...

I'm a relative newbie at this but I have AMOLED DInc that I rooted about 3 months old. I was trying to flash the CMOD 7 through ROM Manager but after installing and rebooting, it would hang at the splash screen (the HTC white screen). I pulled the battery and then tried to reboot again, same thing. I pulled the battery again and held the vol- with power to get into recovery. I tried to restore the one backup file I had and it just looped back saying no files. I then remembered I had kept a couple of backups on my hard drive. I hooked the phone to the computer but the sd wouldn't mount. I then went into CWM Recovery to mount the USB that way. I was able to pull the SD card up but nothing was on it. I tried copying over my old backups but the message I got was SD card was read only. I then went to format the SD card via the computer and then was able to pull over the files. However, when I go back into CWM Recovery (via the vol- and power), and then to backup/restore, it says there are no files. Anyway to manually flash or install a ROM without having ROM manager and just being able to get into CWM Recovery?
the only way to flash a rom is through CWR don't use rom manager especially for CM7. boot into recovery if you are able and try to restore one of your old backups. if not. mount your sd card to your computer and put whatever rom you wish on the root of your SDcard once done boot into recovery and DO NOT USE rom manager.scroll to factory reset. and reset. then i usually use caulkins format tool i keep a copy on my sdcards root at all times. i do it because apparently it formats the system folder to. then when everything is nice and clean then scroll to apply zip file again then flash the rom( if you want to flash any kernels do that after the rom). then reboot. and crosss your fingers.
No luck...
tried that, downloaded virtuous and incredible roms on my mac. Its weird - they say .zip when they're downloading but then show up as folder on my mac. When I moved them to the sd card and attempted to install zip file from sd card, no zip files would show up - just the folders and subfolders and indvidual files... I then "compressed" the folders to create zip files and tried again but it would attempt to install and then abort installation...
I'm guessing I permanently bricked this guy...
What version of RomManager and CWM are you on/were you running?
ROM Manager offers you a CWM update when you open it to flash an update to the underlying CWM recovery.
When updated, sadly, this is giving people across the community all kinds of trouble when a ROM that doesn't have the 'latest' (according to the developer) scripting techniques in it - as such, much pain is being felt by folk that upgraded to latest CWM and are using ROM Manager to flash.
Once you get your device back working, perhaps flash your CWM version back to something earlier than 3.x - how? Scroll to bottom of menu when in ROM Manager, look for All CWM Recoveries, flash something other than 3.x, like 2.5.1.4.
These ideas are a stretch, but worth a mention/thought:
(prefaced w/ idk much about mac)
Have you tried another SD card?
Did/can you format the SD in the device? I've read mac formatting of SD to FAT32 takes some extra steps if not an additional app on the mac. Can you get to a PC and format the SD on a PC?
fwiw, frequently on PC's, the .zip file extension is not shown ~ is it possible the files on the SD have blah.zip.zip, and are therefore unseen? This is more common that you might think.
All that said, if you can boot device at all, successfully d/l a Virtuous ROM .zip to computer, transfer it to a viable FAT32 formatted SD card, boot into recovery, choose option that says 'select zip file to apply' navigate to the Virtuous zip file, flash it, you may be back in business.
For context, AOSP ROMs (CM7) interact quite a bit w/ the SD card, even during boot - as such, SD issues or wipes or other such things are painful when booting an AOSP ROM when SD is wonky.

[Q] Help please. Everything wiped....

I was using boot manager to install a rom and I accidently wiped system and the rom didn't flash properly. Now I'm stuck in fastboot and can't mount my usb to transfer a rom to get back into my phone. All it does is power down or reboot into fastboot. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Searching for you... really hope we can get your phone working again
So you can not boot into recovery at all?
If you hold power plus volume down can you get to the bootloader?
have you removed your SD card & used a card reader?

Was just going to suggest that. I had a similar thing happen, and I just popped the SD card out, copied a ROM to it and then booted to hboot (vol down and power on) and selected recovery there. I then could re-wipe and flash the new rom.

If he can't get it to boot into recovery he'll have to try flashing a rom or new recovery in a pc36img.zip.
Thanks for the replies...I really appreciate the help. I can power down and get into the bootloader, but I can't choose recovery to get to my backups. It just loops to fast boot. When I click bootloader it tries to scan the pc36img, but fails...I'm guessing that it got erased. I don't have a card reader, but that's a good idea. I'll got to the store and pick one up and see if I can transfer the files I need to get my phone back on. I'll post back and let you guys know what happens. Thanks again for the help so far.
You just need to put the recovery file on the root of the sd card. Not everything until you see if it got erased.

Just bought the sd card reader and loaded back the recovery file. Looks like all my files on the sd card are still intact. I tried flashing HybridBeta.5...it flashed but kept going back to recovery when I tried to reboot. I'm gonna recover one of my backups and see how that works. Brb...
Once you flash into Recovery
Go to:
- Install zip from sdcard
- Choose zip from sdcard
- Scroll down to BootManager folder
- Select phoneRom and then click update.zip to get Phone Rom back
I have also flashed update.zip files from within rom1-4 when they were known good working installs and had them work as well.

Erased SD card - Can't enter CWM recovery

Hi,
I've successfully rooted my HTC one x, and installed TripNRaVeRs CM9 ROM.
I then decided it Erased the SD card to make it clean and free up space, Setting > storage > Erase SD card.
This has not effected the ROM but it is no longer possible to enter ClockWorkMod through recover and I want to go back to my standard ROM.
Is this because I have deleted something important off the SD card?
When I first enter the bootloader mode the HBOOT now reads;
SD Checking...
failed to open usb master mode
failed to open usb master mode
loading HTCUpdateZipName image...
failed to open usb master more
Please plug off USB
if I 'fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-endeavoru.img'
it says OKAY and Finished, but when I go into the bootloader and select recovery it just restarts the phone into android.
Have you tried to boot into recovery after the reboot from trying to enter recovery? As far as I know there is nothing important that can be erased by formatting sd card. You should flash the latest cwm recovery, 5.4.0. It's in the development section, sorry can't find it quickly from my phone now. That will allow you to put rom on sd card.
Another method is if you can boot into rom, just use adb to enter recovery.
'adb reboot recovery'.
Edit: Here is the link for the latest recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594819&highlight=recovery
Oh and that Hboot message is quite normal. I also get it and am sure everyone else gets it as well. It is just looking to see if there isn't a update file(That's for different images, which we'll probably use when we have s-off).

yea that did it.
cheers,
Did I loose anything by wiping the SD card?
Whenever I reboot, my phone now says 'Preparing SD card' in the status bar, which it never used to.

obviously you have lost the contents of your SDcard and probably any CWM backups you have made.
will likely have lost any big game data like ShadowGun etc, anything that requires you to download additional game data
and FYI the "preparing SD card" popup on reboot is normal, maybe you have not noticed it before but it is normal
Thanks.
yea, I wanted to clean it from all the '3 mobile' crap that comes installed (including some bad music), I had already saved my CWM recovery to my PC so have a copy of that.
Just wanted to make sure I hadn't lost any important drivers or boot files. But now thats its booting fine into CMW Im happy.
This is my first attempt at rooting so have not seen the preparing SD card on sense.
should be ok, nothing boot related runs from the SD so happy modding
and the prepping SD should be on stock aswell as custom, maybe im mistaken

[Q] no os installed !are you shure you want to reboot

rooted my phone sgn2 and installed twrp downloaded jelly thunder blackout to my sd card fowllowed steps, dalvc wipe, cache wipe ,wipe system and then i flash jtbo rom and it failed. i got a bad download and im not shure what to do.any help would be appriciated . and i have every thing backed up.
If you made a Nandroid before flashing just restore it. If not and you have an external sd card shut down the phone and remove the sd card and use a computer to dl a rom and put it on the card. Put the card back in the phone and boot directly into recovery and flash rhw rom. If you dont have a ext sdcard then there is probably a way to adb push a rom to the internal sdcard with a computer but you'll have to google that one, , I'm a little rusty on adb. Another option is trying to reboot to bootloader and flash a stock rom with odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ter - [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers / Sasktel]Link for odin instructions and roms.

sometimes you just need to reboot back into recovery. Just last night after wiping with TWRP I got "Failed" message when trying to flash the best international stock ROM. I simply reboot the phone back into recovery and then it flashed fine.

[Q] Need ADB sideload

Hello.
I have problem with my phone, i format all memory, and now i have no recovery or any rom to flash it,from what i know and read, only option for me is ADB sideload rom to phone, cause like now i can only go in fastboot, flash new recovery, that it.

Also i can't connect phone to my pc, for some reasons computer don't see my phone, i'm able to flash new recovery through cmd, but can't make pc to see phone as usb mass storage. So now i stuck. anyone have something similar ? And figure out how to put rom in memory card ?

How in the World you managed to do so???
Erasing recovery???
Well, I never used ADB push. The easiest way is to flash Philz recovery again, mount sd card and copy the ROM.zip to sd card.
And why double posting problems. Old thread is only 3 days old
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582565
Flash this recovery
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yqzlpqo8illa53j/Philz recovery 5.15.9.img
And do whats been told. Mount the sdcard in the mounts and storage menu. Wait a couple of minutes (yes literally minutes) it will pop up !
And if you did search the twrp thread (touch not working) you would have found the repacked 2.4.0.0 -JB twrp recovery. It's been discussed there many......many times !

i can't do it cause in recovery i can't mount phone as storage so i can't put rom on it. having only recovery give me nothing if i'm not able put rom in phone. if problem will be only recovery, then i wouldn't bother you guys. my main problem is that pc don't see phone, all drivers are installed, yet nothing works.

i try viper, cm11,project x revolution, always had error 7
i put rom on sd card in phone, flash boot img, shut down, disconnect cable, boot in recovery, wipe and stuff, install rom, error 7, i never disconnect cable during installation, i even don't touch phone more than i need to.
Its the recovery i guess. Have you tried this.....rom is now on the phone so that problem is done. Flash the 5.15 recovery and install the rom.zip.......spit out ideas and thinking out loud.....these are all things to test.
