I am having problems doing a nandroid backup. I have done back ups in the past with no problems. I am on Rogue Et Recovery 1.1.2 (cwm V.5.0.2.7)
This is how I'm doing it.
I go into recovery and I go to backup. I tried doing the advance back up but on but I get Error Mounting Backup Path!
Any reason why I'm getting this Error or am I doing something wrong?
By default, that recovery tries to write to your SD card. Try switching to internal storage and then backup
Yeah, I'd agree, switch to the internal storage. I did that too before I realized that when it says sdcard it doesn't mean /sdcard it actually means a card that you added after you bought the phone.
This is so much different than the GNex as far as programming is concerned. Is it because of the Sprint Network? Anyway, thanks for the tip. I took the sd card out of the phone when I did the root process and forgot to put back in.

I sort of started explaining my issue in the Skyraider Vanilla RC2 thread... but I didn't want to take over that thread for my own issues.
This is what happened-
I tried to install this update that was on the thread, I did a nandroid +ext back up before I did so. When I ran the update it said something about sense 3.1 update so I thought something was a bit wierd, when I turned on my phone, all my apps were rapidly force closing in front of the setup window so I rebooted my phone into recovery and did the nandroid restore. I cleared dalik cache as well, just to make sure things restored smoothly. My phone turned on, but was laggy and and the sd card was read only, it didnt show up when I attached it to my computer... I didn't have the original Vanilla RC2 file on my card, since I initially installed with rom manager, but then switched over to the amon ra recovery image so it was not there.
I rebooted into recovery again, and cleared dalik again, and cache, and then cleared the ext part of my sd card because I thought maybe there was an issue there... Now i turned on my phone my launcher is gone, some of the apps that came with vanilla in the first place are gone along with most of my other apps aside from appbrain for some reason. The phone is so laggy it is almost not even usable as a phone... What should I do?
Buy a new sd card? factory reset? I am totally at a loss..

this is what I would do... go back into recovery and do all wipes. then format the card to your desired partitions. toggle usb and redrop the rom you want back on there and run zip from sdcard. You will have a bone stock system again and have to load all the things you want on there, but at least you will have a normal running phone again. If you happened to have things you wanted to save from the sdcard then the nandroid backup you had saved , well you should have drug it off the sdcard to your computer first. Then after you have a setup with the same rom running that you had your nandroid originally made from should load fine when you reload the backup.
1 save that nandroid backup to your pc
2 wipe completely and reformat your card
3 load the rom zip on the card and run it
4 load the nandroid backup to your sdcard and run it
or do 1-3 and start from scratch... hope this helps

If do have a few backups saved to my computer, (from vanilla 2.5.2) but not the new one. (which is fine)
If I repartition the card, will it go back to being normal again? right now it is read only and will not show up on my computer at all so.. Also when you say wipe, do you mean wipe all data also?
yes wipe all the wipes they recovery you use offers then do a factory wipe THEN go into the format options and reformat your card. It wipes it all but you get a fresh start. then after you drag your rom back onto the sdcard and load it then do your nandroid Its possible your sdcard is hosed but not very likely

Upgrading to newest amon_ra recovery worked for me.
Swyped with my Evo 4g running CM6
i am on the most recent amon ra already, havent renamed any of them, and i have plenty of room on my sdcard any other ways to fix this?

It took me days and days researching this...lol. I found three possible issues...the first, and most common, is renaming your backups. Apparently that screws it all up, so don't rename them. Second, your battery is too low...it has to be at least 40%. I never renamed and I was fully charged - but still got the error, and when I tried to restore via adb I got an sd card error. In MY case, I had gotten a new 16gb sdcard and it wasn't formatted or partitioned properly...I had to copy everything off if it onto a folder on my PC, format it (FAT32) via PC, put it back into the Evo, reboot into Amon Ra recovery via Rom Manager, select "partition sd card" - let that work- then select SD:ext2 to ext3...wait till that was done, reboot. Then I mounted as disk drive to the PC, copied everything back to the sd card, and viola...it finally worked. I don't know why it did it, I had 2 of the exact sd cards...brand, class, etc. Hopefully that works for you!
ahhhh the battery explain it hahaha

Lol...good! Cause that whole formatting thing sucked.
Hi guys.
I'm having a bit of trouble restoring my ROM after testing the ICS. What happened was I flashed the ICS ROM, played around with it, then decided to go back to my original ROM (CM7) which I had made a nandroid backup of through recovery.
I did a full wipe through recovery (CWM 5.0.2.0), but when I came to format the sdcard, it said error mounting /sdcard, skipping format. At first I though it was the sdcard, so I got a new one, formatted it on my pc and retried. It failed again. I can't mount the sdcard to my pc too.
I tried partitioning using amonRA recovery too, it didn't work either. I don't think it's an sdcard issue, so I'm not sure what's going on. I can't flash any ROM now, the only thing working is booting to CM7 in safe mode, but I don't know what use that would be.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Please let me know if I can give any more information to help you out.
Thanks.
Hi!
Welcome to the forums
Sorry to see you are having trouble, let me help you out:
Why are you formatting your SD card in the fist place?? If your phone doesn't recognize the SD card there is little you can do. Seeing as it doesn't read the new SD card either is no surprise as the files for the Recovery are on the SD card..
Do you have an SD-Card reader? Try connecting it to your PC/Mac/Whatever using that and see what happens. It could be your phone, and not your SD-Card after all
USUALLY a nandroid backup does not require wiping for restoration. And wiping doesn't mean you wipe your SD card.
Good Luck,
AU
I connected the sdcard to my pc and I accessed it without any issues. I found .dm files in it though, some sort of debug logs.
Hmm, sounds weird.
Have you tried formatting it on your computer and then formatting it on your phone? Can't see why it should help, just troubleshooting here.
Perhaps your card is dead
Why are you formatting your SD-Card in the first place, if you're only doing a nandroid restore?
Try different recovery, CWM can get picky. Or you can try formatting card within Android. Use SDFormatter in Windows.
I followed these steps and it worked. Now I can access the SD Card.
Thanks anyway for your help guys. I appreciate your support.
Hi,
Trying to do a nandroid backup with touch 6.0.1.4 and it does not work. I try on sdcard and external sdcard and both fail.
Message I get:
No /sdcard/,android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Backup complete.
Backup take like 15 seconds and the size is only like 20k so it is not backing up much.
I did reinstall touch a few time and fix permissions.
Any idea whats wrong?
I know this isn't a fix, as I don't use cwm atm, but I've had nothing but success using twrp(team win recovery project) perhaps give it a whirl, or wait for someone for familiar with cwm touch

I tried the same version of cwm as you. After a couple of days, my external sd unmounted and wouldn't remount. Since the recovery was the only thing i had changed in almost a month, i knew it had to be recovery. Flashed back to 5.8.4.5 touch, but had to take my external out, pull everything off, reformat, and put everything back on it. (Real pita considering i have a32gb card).
Title says it all, I've on twrp recovery right now. I tried cwm before since i was having that problem. First time with Samsung any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Edit: I believe one the phone is encrypted, the data can't be mounted to security purposes.

Same problem
I have the same problem. My device's (Samsung GS III VZW) internal storage is encrypted as well. Does this seem like this could be what's causing this?
I want to make sure that my backups are good that I'm taking with nandroid in CWM 6.0.1.2. If I choose straight up Backup & Restore -> Backup from the menu then I get an error:
Can't mount backup path.
If I choose Backup & Restore -> Backup to external sdcard, then it chugs along for about 30 seconds, then gives this error:
Backing up data...
Can't mount /data!
However, my backups that are put on the External SD Card (extsdcard/clockworkmod/backup/<datedfolder>) only consist of 3 files, boot.img (10mb), recovery.img (10mb) and system.ext4.dup (317kb). This doesn't seem right..
Any thoughts? Does this seem like it could be caused by the device being encrypted ?
Thanks! I'm a real noob and really appreciate the help!

Ya I say definitely stay away from encryption if your gonna flash roms. I've been here before backup what you need and wipe data in recovery. If it doesn't work flash the stock jb rom thatll wipe it.(located here if needed http://www.mediafire.com/?c3cj6udkai1ljhk ). As far as the backups go I believe that's actually the right size. Cwm uses a weird format for its backups now. Granted if data can't be mounted I think those backups are worthless now anyway
