Is there a way to uncap the fps on the latest fresh rom. So far fresh is my favorite rom but the one thing that I'm missing about being on cm6 is the fps fix. So is there a fix?
I'm willing to switch the kernel if I have to as long as it's not going to cause any problems or anything.
Switch Kernal
Same here, once I switched to this kernal I couldn't live without my extra fps. I'm now using netarchy's kernal and it works fine without a problem.

Cool I was kinda wondering what kernal would work with this. I see alot of the CM6 guys using snap but I didn't know if that would work with mine.
How is netarchy with battery life compared to 3.2 kernel?
I flashed this onto my phone but my evo now is at 31.7fps using neocore on fresh 3.2. When I was on Cm6 I was getting around 47 so why is it that I've only uncapped my fps by 1 point?

It's not that it uncapped it by only one point, it's just that CM6 is quite a bit faster since it doesn't have Sense and the rest of the HTC stuff running in the background. Run an fps2d test and you should be getting around 55.
Don't quote me on this, but since the FPS fix is done in the Kernel flipz is not going to be doing this. His ROM's use the Stock Kernels it kind of sounds like he is not going to mess with them.
I believe I seen him say this or deny this on his personal webpage forums.
you are right flipz isnt currently doing this fix int he kernel since it is pretty much the stock kernel. You have 2 options KingxKernel and NetArchy kernel. I cant tll you for sure how battery life compares to 3.2 fresh but I have read both work with it. Both will give you unlocked FPS.
Snap kernel will not work with Fresh as Snap is for CM only currently.
all 3 to my knowledge (may have changed over the last fw days) are based on the foryo build not the new OTA that fresh is using. I would expect to see new updates coming in the near future to change this up (whenever HTC releases or source is leaked at least)
You start mixing and matching and you'll possibly run into issues.
3.2 has an UNRELEASED kernel from HTC.
Netarchy and the others with the FPS fix are using an OLDER kernel.
Do you want the new, or the old with the FPS fix?
As stated in all the other threads several times... When this UNRELEASED update from HTC goes PUBLIC and when the source code is available, then you will get FPS fix in it.
If you choose to use a rom with an unreleased kernel then put on an old kernel and run into issues, hope you keep your backups up to date.
I'm actually using Netarchy's newest CFS kernel with Fresh 3.2 and I haven't had a single problem. Battery life was the same as before, but I'm getting 55fps with a stdev of 2.3 in fps2d.

That's why I said possibly. Nobody has looked into the source code which doesn't seem to be available yet to really know all of what's changed. You may NOT run into issues, or you may hit just the right combination to cause issues. Nobody knows yet.
I, personally, need my phone on a day to day basis for business purposes and only "play" with it after hours. I take the slower, wait and see approach to see what's stable and fully working before I change things around.
I just hope this unreleased patch doesn't turn into the accidental PRE release of 2.2 where folks were in such a rush to have the latest that they ended up with a stale version and had to update again.
Have you guys checked the Fresh Updater, in it he has kernel choices... I was running kingz BFS#8 and it was lovely....you lose nothing and gain everything
Tired that 2 days ago.. #8 I had such bad fps. Encore of 18 and quadrant I have never seen such low numbers.. but not every phone is the same..
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm using kingz #8 as well with Fresh 3.2 and have FPS of 54-55 and quadrant scores of around 1600 (overclocked to 1.15)

I can't get Titanium Backup to work on Fresh 3.2.0.0 (believe me, I've tried it all) and I have wifi connection problems on CM6 with my school's network. Don't recommend DC because it is essentially dead. What's a solid, regularly updated ROM?

i would suggest Evio. though it doesnt update constantly either.
while i disagree that DC is dead and think people are to reliant on updates to determine what a good rom is i will leave it at that.

Well when they've pushed out one measly update since Froyo was released, I would say it is fairly dead.
what would you have them update? besides some minor changes to dconfig/dc updater that could help i cant think of what they need to change to make it better. all functions work. it has all there tweaks. there hasnt been a major ota yet to add features they need to update, and it comes with a stock kernel so they dont need to re update to to put kernel fixes into it.
for me and most others i have seen post it is stable and everything works. i am jsut not sure what people feel needs to be updated with there rom. other roms use there own kernel so i can see them needing to tweak there rom for it or they are ASOP and are building things from the ground up so want to release as much as possible as the progress. for a rom based off of stock with out its own kernel that works and to my knowledge has no major rampant issues i guess i dont get why people feel they must have an update yet.

Maybe things like performance fixes, optimization, building off the latest HTC build (like Fresh). There are a million things you can do to a ROM. The old DC ROMs got constant updates.

Do you have bad performance with dc? i do agree they could make an update to the leaked ota ala fresh that would be nice to see but i wouldnt call it dead because they havent updated to using it yet (i believe only FRESH has so far) it is relatively newly leaked.
As for performance and optimization are there specifics optimizations or tweaks you feel it doesnt have that will a make big difference? I follow all the top 6-7 roms and flash each rom as a new version comes out. (i will say havent gotten to flash fresh 3.2 yet) Besides CM which is specifically built for speed i dont feel any of them currently offer a big advantage over Dc and dc HASNT updated.
i guess to each there own. i am sure they could make minor tweaks and changes and release more frequent updates. I am sure many would be much happier. For me personally i like having a steady true daily driver that doesnt change every few days with minor often unnoticeable tweaks.
I didnt object to you not liking DC each person has to find the rom they like i object to people calling it dead because they havent put out an update every week.
my recommendation on EVIO still stand of all the roms i have used (all the top name roms except the newest fresh) i find it is the only one that has made me debate switching to it as a daily driver.

So what makes EVIO different from Fresh and Ava?

one of the big differences i like is that dalvik is on the cache partition. I like most of the tweaks he has made to the system I am not sure what all of the are but the roms seems very very smooth and i get comparable battery life to DC on battery saving profile (no other rom i have tried has given me this). With most roms i have at least 1 or 2 issues with something (though many are minor). I remove sense and htc apps/widgets usually and after doing so it seems to preform better then ava did for me.
I also believe he modifies the King kernel to tweak set cpu settings and a few other things to try to optimize it for this rom. I know he has in the past (not 100% if he changed #8 with the new 1.2 release).
overall i think it is very similar quality to Fresh. the difference for me is that my battery life is ok with fresh but good with Evio (same set up).
What's up TheBiles, I remember your thread early on about battery life improvements with autostarts and setcpu.
I'm having good results with the BakedSnack series. Currently on 1.5 using Kings BFS #6 Kernel. I would be on 1.6 right now if I wasn't doing a battery calibration for a new battery I got.
I think it's one of the most active ROM's out there, 6.5 updates since Froyo has been released and each update has been an improvement with thoughtful changes. You only need to look at the changelog, from 1.0 and on, in the thread to see what separates it from other ROM's.
Unlike some other ROM's, he isn't just updating system APK's and increasing the version number - he's really putting in the effort to balance out stability, performance, and battery life.

I'll have to check that out! Right now I was testing out Ava-Froyo for the sole reason that it has the same name as my daughter.
I need my battery to last a full day with medium use. What is the best ROM/Kernel combination I should use?
i think fresh is supposed to be the best battery wise...but the negative is that you have to use its kernel. and its kernel doesnt allow overclocking/underclocking with apps such as setcpu and it also has the 30fps cap.
but if battery is what you need go for it. i also say go for it if you've never flashed a kernel to remove the 30fps. if you've never flashed a kernel to move the cap you wouldnt be able to tell the difference

I use Fresh 3.2 w/ netarch's Kernel w/ full 60fps unlock. I used my phone all day and still had 30% by 9pm starting 11am. Facetubing, gtalk, voice calls, internet, rss, time checking.
I've flashed a kernel before, but never knew if I was underclocked/overclocked. I flashed King 7 or whatever.

Most ROMs are built on the same HTC OTA releases (except for CM6, which has worse battery life than HTC OTA's); kernels are usually the thing that differentiates their battery life.
Fresh uses the leaked OTA stock kernel. You can probably flash this kernel to any regular OTA based rom.
...but the HTC Kernel has NOTHING on Backed Snacks Kernel #6. Go read the Baked Snacks thread thread. The battery life is literally ridiculous with Kernel #6.
Could I use the BSK #6 with Fresh?
Ok I went to the thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701685
And the link for Kernel 6 is not there, only 1-5
Dude, it might be the booze talking, but you got this thread on lock down. I couldn't have said it better than myself, what other dev has both a sick ROM and a sick Kernel like its nothing? I am still surprised dudes leaked his stuff because he gave all that stuff up no questions. And that is saying a lot because other dev's have better rom's with stock kernels. but the combo's and choices hero comes out with is what makes android android

You can underclock the kernel included in Fresh. And I do not see a point in OCing for 12%. The 1Ghz is plenty.

Umm sorry my cm6 battery life is great I get avg 22-25 hours per charge with medium use far more than I have gotten with any sense rom besides baked snacks. Om testing the new flipz rom for a few days since i hear great things about the kernal

In my opinion:
If you do not need 4G, CyanogenMod v6 with Snap kernel v7.5 would be your best bet.
If you do need or want 4G, Fresh EVO v3.2.0.0 would be your best bet.
Of all the sense roms i've tried, baked snacked seemed to have the best battery life of them all even beating out fresh 3.2 imo

Leave your wifi on all day connected to wherever you are. It's the 3g data that uses much of the power. I keep my work and my job's wifi remembered and get 20 hrs on a charge with medium/heavy use on stock 2.2. If no access to wifi most of the day, this won't help you.

The 30 FPS limit and SetCPU are two different things. SetCPU will allow you to overclock/underclock your phone's CPU. The 30 FPS limit is a video limitation and will need a kernel to remove.
I'm currently running Baked Snack 1.7 and I believe his stock kernel. I get about 14-15 hours with medium/heavy use.
Will be checking out kernel #6 later today.
hi all, i'm still here
i installed android on my kaiser (scooter's cyanomod build froyo), and i'm happy (exept for the camera... still hoping) but i have a question :
it's normal that the animation are slow, the menu are ... don't know... "fat" to appear even with a fresh installation...
i mean, i know that kaiser is not the fastest phone on the Earth, but i think that a completely empty android coud be handeled by it..
i tried to play with compache settings, but i dont have manu results, and i prefere not to overclock, due to the high battery drain
ps : i tried to search in the forum and in google, but with no results
thanks !
I know what you mean. I wasn´t here in the Kaiser thread for a long time because i have a HTC HD2 now. But i loved Android for my Kaiser.
I can say that the older Donut builts runs much faster/smoother than froyo. The Kaiser is an old Phone but quite good. But it is like as it is on PC. You can run Vista on an old machine but the experience is... uhm...
I had Myn´s Warm Donut on my Kaiser but it seems that there is no further development. But RLS5 was fast an stable...
Another thing for smoothiness is the kernel you use. I changed to an older kernel because under a newer one the animations seems to be laggy. I dont know how it is now with the kernels. But you should test some different kernels.
I should dig out my Kaiser an play a little bit around with the new kernels and androids... ;-)
@ highcoder:...
2 builds of Froyo I would suggest is ThoughtlessKyle's NSS (Not So Super) Froyo and Incubus26Jc_'s Super FroYo RLS15 with .25 for a kernel. You have to put in a wireless update, and either 1.65 or 1.70 radio ROMs (both work great), but so far so good. 520MHz OC and everything on NAND and the only app that FC's on me is Pandora radio (I guess because it uses so much memory for each song)
I will probably be trying ThoughtlessKyle's Fat Free Froyo soon with the same .25 kernel here soon, but the 2 suggested above seem to be what I like to use.
Fat Free Froyo is by far the fastest release I tried.. But I'm still facing some problems with my battery, it drains so fast.. I think i will go a release back and try Donut for a change

I found using Vaniji Eclair with the .25 kernel is the fastest, and gives me decent battery life (about 12hrs with moderate use). I've been using Gingerbones with the .32 kernel, but because of how unstable .32 kernel is, I kept getting crashes, data corruption, etc...
Scooter, how did you get the .35 kernel? Can you IM me how or where you got it, so I can maybe compile my own version? The thought that you get several days under moderate use makes me want to get inside the kernel to check out if CPUFreq is indeed working on that kernel.

The kernel i am using is compiled from dzo's original .32 git repo, i have made a few adjustments to it which i can't remember because it was before christmas. Once i've got my jan exams out the way i will do a git diff and push any changes i have made. Life's a little chaotic at the minute though. I am running my 5.5 build, phone came off charge at 9 this morning and was reading 97%, after a day of texting, some data usage and general gaming on the toilet (as you do!!) my battery is reading 70%. It's the original samsung battery too, so it's quite a few years old.

Well back on topic, since everyone here is saying go Donut, I think I'll be a rebel and say go Eclair, it's not far from Froyo, and ahead of Donut, so you kinda get the inbetween of the two.

now, i see a lot of artifatcs... now i rollback, but anyone had the same issue?
with "atools" can i set something that can help me to inmprove performance?

update : rolled back to base kernel... but artifacts still here
another update : downloaded from frash the kernel, applied the overclock to 500 and no other options : no more artifacts
Ok i´ve reactivated my Kaiser to try around a little bit.
The last one i´ve tried was Fat Free Froyo with the latest 2.6.32 Kernel from DZO and it´s a very fast & stable built. Not as fast/smooth as Myn´s warm Donut (with an older Kernel) but for a Froyo on Kaiser much impressive.
@bboygolem
Overclocking ist not the best way to improve performance. Better... its a poor way. Even if you have a new big battery the batterylife is not so long... one day or so... and if you now speed up your CPU your batterydrain is much higher, the thermal stress for CPU and other components is higher and the chance of force closes, app hangs, artifacts, system crash, data corruption/loss is very high. On the other side you have only a little performance increase. Too little that you dont recognise it in all day use. Of course a calculating benchmark will show you maybe a 20% performance boost but only for calculating things. But the Speed of an operating system is defined by the weakest thing in the whole chain.
Better get a good optimized android built. building a android for kaiser nowdays is easy as going to toilet, but cook a highly optimized, smooth runnin, slim rom is the real deal...
So you have to test and compare the builts and the kernels (the newest is not always the best).
The best (fast, smooth, stable) built on the first Forumpage is Fat Free Froyo.
But still the best (most suitable for Kaiser) built i´ve ever tested is Myn´s Warm Donut RLS5 in conjunction with an older Kernel from Kallt_Kaffee. The best combination ever.
It is an Android 1.6 so it is older but smaller too. So it runs faster and smoother and you have more RAM for apps. Especially when you run resourcehungry programs like Navigon Mobile Navigator you need the extra Memory. With eclayr, froyo you have only force closes...
But at least it´s on you. Your favors, your taste, your choice...

May I ask about the battery consumption in Myn's warm Donut release? is it the same as Froyo built?
highcoder, thanks for you reply, but i have some questions:
1 - i know that overclocking the cpu , i have a more battery drain and disease percentage, but i noticed a little performance increase.... can it be "placebo effect"?
2 - I thought to use the old kernel, but i read somewhere that is slower than the new one. It's true?
3 - I can install the donut, i don't care about eyecandy's, but I'm afraid that a lot of apps in the market shall not work with the "donut" distribution.. am i wrong? using fat free froyo with the old kernel shall improve my performance?
thanks again
sorry, dobule post
Oh that are a lot of questions i cant answer properly.
The overclocking has of course an effect. But it is only a little average performance increase. Hard to notice that. the most of that is really placebo. But the risk of brick something or to have an instable system ist sigificant higher... so its not worth it...
i dont know about the older kernels because i have a HTC HD2 since 6 Month so there was a lot of change here. Froyo have got a real performance increase the last months. So the kerneldevs and the chef´s here do a good work. But the best Foyobuilt (2.2) here with the newest kernel don´t beat the smoothieness and felt speed of Myn´s warm Donut (1.6).
I never had a problem with market apps and donut. Shure there will be apps that wont work with donut anymore but for that case there are enough alternative apps that will work.
If you want i can search my HDD´s for the kernel i used an give it to you...
But now i´ll go to bed.
thanks highcoder, it'd be very kind from you =)
have a good night
@bigboss2200 & bboygolem
Battry Drain Test with newest DZO Kernel and Fat Free Froyo is in progress. After that i will test Myn´s war Donut with a NEW Kernel. So i can compare these builts about batterydrain and Speed. May be the speed improvements of the new Froyobuilts i´ve noticed are only Kernel related. In this case Myn´s warm donut should benefit from this kernel optimizations too an we will have a real performance boost. I'm curious about it.
I will post my results...
in the meantime, i installet latest dzo kernel and fat free froyo, and it seems stable and usable
but if using the .25 kernel i will be able to use the camera and to shut down the phone permanently, keeping an accettable speed, i think i'd downgrade the kernel
i'm looking forward to see your test results
ok i have tested Myns warm donut with .32 kernel = laggy animations
so i downloaded the latest .25 kernel from here. After that i downloaded the mandatory update for all older builts from here. Without this update wifi won´t work. In newer builts it is cooked in already.
Flash the kernel.
Install Myns
Install Update
Weeehaaaa! It works with the newer .25 too. Smooth animations, very responsive and snappy. WLAN works fine... battery drain will show a longer test...
I always made some adjustments. Go to spareparts -> Window Animation = fast and transition animation = fast, fancy input animation = on
Give it a try... Let your Kaiser feel "young" again ;-)
EDIT: Dont use the builtin Astro filemanager. Its outdated... Download a newone from market. My Favourite is Estrong ESfileexplorer. Because it can handle FTP and SMB. That mean Windows network shares too. So you can exchange your files over wlan with your PC.
I flashed a new kernel, netarchy 4.3 bfs no havs SBC and no undervolting. I had read before that it can take up to a few days for your phone to stable out after flashing a new kernel. I don't have any major issues, just get some really bad lag here and there. So, is it true that the phone takes time to become stable again? And if so, will the lagging go away in time?

Maybe...but then again it could be the kernel/rom/your phone combo. They say to wait for a few days for the kernel to level out but when I installed netarchy 4.2.1 cfs more havs smartass, my phone was zippy from the first boot. And never got slower or faster. So you could try to wait it out but if you find the perfect kernel for you phone it will
Probably be good right away. Once you find a good one I would run it for every rom you use. I've been on sbc net 4.2.1 for maybe a month and I'm not goin anywhere!!
I used the site evobenchers.com to make my decision to go with 4.2.1 it seemed to have the perfect mix of low battery drain and good speed and to my surprise it worked.check out the site and use the graphs to make you're decision. Good luck

As of right now it doesn't seem to lag a bit. However, I disabled all window animations so that's probably the reason why. It seems to be doing fine though. I'm really loving this battery life, I've spent about 30 min texting, on Facebook, and playing angry birds. Still sitting at 100%

Yeah...it's a really good kernel.
I know that there was at least one post other for this, but I was wondering if some of you guys could give me a couple more (newer) rom and kernel recommendations or combinations. I have been reading threads in this forum for about a week or so now and there are so many different things that its almost overwhelming. I am fairly new to rooting (I rooted one phone prior to this) and am somewhat familiar with what roms and kernels I can use together, but a little advice/confirmation/recommendation never hurt anyone.
Basically, what I am looking for is something that is super responsive with a lot of internal space free for apps that I use (I would prefer not to have to use apps2sd). I would like to try to safely overclock the cpu (this is the first phone I have had the opportunity to overclock ). I NEED BATTERY! No, really, I need the battery to last at least 12 hours with some use (I work 12 hour shifts). It also needs have working Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, and GPS (as I use all of them).
I've been thinking of trying Deck's rom with Tiamat kernel (not the sbc build correct? That's for extended batteries I believe) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this setup. Any other setups anyone could recommend would be great to hear about too.
Currently, I am running Synergy RC1 but wanted to see what else is out there.
I really appreciate people taking the time to read this and post their thoughts. I'll eagerly be awaiting your responses. Thanks!
I too would like some recommendations. My buddy just got an EVO and he wants me to root it for him and flash a custom ROM. I am a thunderbolt guy so I am not familiar with the current ROMS for the EVO. What are your recommendations for a sense ROM? Any sense 3.0 ROMS?
You can't go wrong with anything from Myn or Mik. I justed recently flashed EVOlvedAndroid's Director's Cut and it works pretty nicely. Fresh ROMs are okay too but I almost always find my back to a rom by Myn or Mik.
You might get a "you can search threads and see what sounds good to you" response.
or a "each ROM will work differently for different people on different phones. same with kernel combos."
you might even get a link to the Wiki.
If you want an AOSP Rom:
I can say that I am running Deck's latest with the kernel it comes with and it's doing just fine. I might use kernel manager to pick out a new kernel.
I like the latest Tiamat and Godmode kernel with cm7, but I for some reason was having problems with my GPS off and on with cm7. No problems with Deck yet.
If I decide to go with a Sense ROM, I'll try out MikG and use kernel manager if the one it comes with doesn't cut it.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I did search out a lot of these roms and kernels. I also understand that a lot of this is trial and error as well. I was only inquiring as to what people liked/preferred and what has worked well for them. So far I have flashed a couple of different roms (Sense and AOSP) and a few tiamat kernels and have found each has its ups and downs (for me anyways). Right now I think I prefer AOSP to the sense roms out there. They seem much faster but I also haven't done any modding to the phone other then roms/kernels (still getting my feet under me). Any other recommendations anyone has would be much appreciated, along with any mods that may be useful. Thanks for taking the time to read this and posting responses.

Basically any AOSP (only ones I've used are cm7 and decks) with the tiamat kernel will get you sick battery life. Once there are custom kernels for the new sense roms they will get great battery life too but if battery is most important to you you can't go wrong with decks or cm7 + tiamat kernel.
i been using steelH rom since the upgrade to gb. i haven't had many problems with any of them. the latest version 1.07, i really like it.. the last few days i been running it pretty hard. i'm seeing a good increase in battery life. on top of that i took a lot of bloat out and added a few apps. it hasn't complained and the fone seems to like it.. it also has a pretty small footprint\install..
txt
asop: cm7 or deck ( i dont think ther are much more choices i like decks cuz its a little cleaner and i can always find a way to customize it enough for my own taste.)
Sense w/ froyo 2.2 ( love myn's and fresh for more customized looking roms have great battery and everything works. if you like stock go to sprint lovers 2.2 and you wont be let down it was my fall back rom that ALWAYS worked)
sense w/ gingerbread 2.3 ( havent used it sorry to many blah issues here and there especially since we got an os upgrade i think htc shorted us and should have given us some sense love too.)
Sense 2.1+ w/ gingerbread ( I am running virus's nightly of the kingdom revolution rom which gives you sense 3.0 (woot!!) and gingerbread together which runns pretty damn good i tryed the synergy/kingdom hybrid and it seemed to work pretty well but seeing this rom is pretty bulky compared to the roms made for evo apps2sd needs to work and i was having issues with that. so anything strictly kingdom or strictly 2.1 would be your best bet.)
hope this helps if you want me to elaborate i'll try to check back and see what i can say
Based on the majority of posts I've read, people seem to choose Synergy or Alliance.
My current ROM of choice is EVOlvedROM Directors Cut RC1.
It's very fast and good on battery life too.
The AOSP ROM of choice is Deck's 1.2.1
Enjoy

I'd have too agree that Deck's rom with the Tiamat kernel has been pretty epic for me so far. Its too bad that there aren't more AOSP roms to try. Deck's its great so far! The battery isn't as bad as I thought it would be overclocked either. Is anyone doing any tweaking of their clockspeed? Do you even need to adjust the clockspeed with the screen off with the smartass governor? From what I've read it shouldn't be necessary. Sorry to slip in the questions, was just doing done reading today and was wondering if anyone had experience with this. Thx.

You cant change kernels on any sense based gingerbread rom. There are no custom gb kernels yet. Thats been the problem with sense gb roms lately...battery life kinda sucks
