quick start up ?? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

is there a way to mke the start up of the phone quicker?
i have a stck TP2 vdafone UK rom, and it takes agestostart up due to showing the vodafone branding logo's.
a cab file would be much apreciated as im just too blonde for registry edits lol
thanks

See if you can find the BSB Tweaks cab. Theres an option to turn off the startup animation there...

i just tried it, all its done is stop the startup animation, but it just keeps a black screen displayed for the same length of time.
any more ideas??

disable sense may speed up the start up as it does not need to load the app. I do not think you can speed up much of the start up because it needs to load all the necessary program files.

Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation]
"GifSpeed"=dword:x
Set x to something big, like 9999999 etc ;]

Ach, right, you don't like you edit your registry. Lol, sorry, here is a cab.

thanks for taking the time to cab it for me jacko, it still does the same as the others and goes to a black screen for the same length of time as the animation went on for.
ihave 3 start up screens on my phone basically...
number 1: vodafone wallpaper for roughly 27 seconds
number 2: animation or not for roughly 20 seconds
number 3: windows start up screen for roughly 12 seconds
and i would love to get rid of the 1st 2 screens ideally.

It's not the animation with takes time, the device needs to start up. It copies files into ram, initiates drivers bla, bla, bla etc ;] You cannot speed this up just by disabling start up pictures.

ahh ok... ill probly just put the animation back on then dont like the black screen, its scary HAHA

btw... thanks ver much for your help, it was much appreciated

You might want to consider a different boot screen (it's screen/animation #2) as it doesn't take up any more time and can be more entertaining when glancing at it that it doesn't seem quite as long. I use the one on post 26 of this thread, which was supposedly optimized for the tilt 2. You just have to rename the .gif image in the cab files to whatever your boot .gif is called and copy it into your windows directory using total commander. I don't remember the name of the file off hand, and it differs depending on who your carrier is.
You can always try the cabs throughout that thread, but keep in mind, if they were made for a different carrier, you may not notice any differences...

BA Screen Resolution Hack (960 X 1280 dpi) at 268288 colors

Oh **** ... it didnt get in ....
sorry folk i forgot to zip it up before attaching.
there you go ...
btw ... i'm already using the hack ... no side effects at all ... just a more beautiful screen !!!!
Tis is how i got the numbers
16 bit = 64K = 65536 colors
1 bit = 65536/64 = 1024 colors
18 bit = 262K = 268288 colors (262 X 1024)
Does it work for Blue Angels
Re: Does it work on Blue Angels ?
The answer is "YES !"
I am using a Blue Angel with This Hack and I'm very happy about the result !!!
Try .... If u wanna revert just jot down the values so u can key them back in.
I never thot it was possible but by heaven's will I chanced upon the genius who discovered it .... i lost the link but lucky i saved it as mht. file.
Now i want u all Blue Angels out there to have the same beautiful screen i am enjoying !!!
Cheers Mates
One for all and all for One !!!
Danger !
Please don't try going above resolutions more than 18 Bit
Although it is possible to do it ... there's no guarantee that the hardware can support resolutions that high .... if your pixels start dying it's your own fault.
18 Bit is safe and good enough .... don't kill the screen by overdosing it !!!

Would someone be kind enough to post a guide on how to do this in their own words?
I've tried both apps suggested and also replaced the files but nothing seems to work.
ozVGA's files already exist in /windows and wont let me overwrite them, and when I start up SE_VGA it opens a dialog box without any text and when you close it the closes the app.

I agree with Biohead, instead of reading long info from the link on you rar file, why don't you just give us step by step how you make it worked on yours.
TX
here it goes .....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\ Display\Active\Built In LCD
In "LCDcolors" Enter Decimal Value 268288
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\ Display\Citizen
In "CxScreen" Enter Hexadecimal Value 30
In "CyScreen" Enter Hexadecimal Value 30
Install OzVGA
These are the settings I use ...
ozVGA
MEnu&Bar Font 650 (Checked)
System Font 700 (Checked)
Hor. Scrollbar 10
Ver. Scrollbar 10
Min Scrl Thumb 10
Fonts Arrays :
SEvga : 500,600,650,800,1000
SEvga : 750,900,975,1200,1500
oz=SE* Ratio 2
Soft Reset
Goto Start/Settings/System/Screen
Set the font size to (Smallest)
As has already been pointed out, a lot of applications don't take into account the system-level font sizes in the Registry. Also, the vast majority of them doesn't check for the actual size of the screen to give you exactly the same view in VGA and in QVGA. (The most notable exception is the excellent document reader application, µBook , which offers the same resolution in both QVGA and VGA modes.)
View the screenshots below for an idea of wat it'll look like.
 Can Someone please tell me why my screenshots don't show up in this page ?????

hardware?
friends, do our blueangels' lcd hardware support that resolution? Or is it just a programm tweak and is not a real resolution enhance?
i have no idea at all whether the hardware supports the resolution ... but the OS definitely allows for different resolutions.
Does anyone have any idea how to check if it is real ???
The only way i know how is to compare the same screen with same brightness settings against another device which is 18bit screen ... like the BenQ P50.
If anyone can do it ... please post your findings Thanks
I can only afford 1 device ... I am Poor
Thanks for the setp by step info...Iam going to try it...so it is safe to modify all the setting right?
yes it is absolutely safe ... just remember your original settings so you can key them back in if you want.
Hi Ivan, I have try it, not working so good, and the text are mixed up, even after changing the setting to the smallest, and the resolution remain the same, yes I follow your step by step, Thanks anyway.
Oh dear ... Sorry about that ... But the prospect of having an 18bit resolution blue angel would really have been a dream cum true ...
I'll experiment some other settings and post it for u guys can try ...
Will it work with a Blueangel running WM5?
Thanks.
I got no Guts to flash my ROM ... So I dunnoe if it work on WM5
But it seems quite safe to change the values back and forth ... it only affects how your screen displays stuff ... if you don't like still can go back to original settings ... I'm still experimenting
Need someone with WM5 to have the guts to try it and tell us his views.
I'll do it, but someone will REALLY have to create a really basic guide. I've never really gotten into modifying the Windows Mobile thing so I'm not 100% whether I'm doing it right.
If someone creates a 100% step by step guide then I'dbe more than happy to try it out. I understand WHAT I have to do, its just HOW to do it.

Very slooow \Windows loading - how to prevent it?

Guys, how long does it take to load \Windows directory for you? For me it used to take about 4-5 seconds, which was fine, but now it's taking over 30 seconds! Regardless if I use File Explorer or GSFinder+. I did a little test, and checked time to load it on 'clean' ROM (just after flashing) - was quick. Then I installed touch-style comm mgr and dialer, and also 5-tab Home plugin - practically nothing else above that. After that it's again taking more than half a minute to open. Obviously one of the applications causes that huge delay.
Does anyone experience similar trouble, and have an idea how to tackle it without actually uninstalling things mentioned above?

I had a similar problem with the Black Majik ROM. 4-5 second delay in listing the Windows directory with a clean ROM. I found that installing the video dialer caused the problem where listing the Windows directory took 30 seconds. I repeated this a few times to make sure that it was the video dialer and not any other software I'd installed.
It's wasn't just a problem listing the Windows directory for me though. The whole WM6 OS had slowed right down.
I'm not having this problem with Sleuth's ROM though.
it is a known problem. the problem with those 'software' that you've installed, is that they have tons of files within the \Windows dir, and hence the slow loading. Unless changes are made to avoid having files within the \Windows dir, I dont think you can do anything much about it. For me, I usually try to avoid \Windows dir when going into any sub dir, by typing the sub dir name before \windows.
Anyway, if you haven't already noticed, in some WM6 ROM, actually you can see that, having a lot of stuff in \Windows actually slow the booting process too.

Hello eva_d,
I have the same problem. Mine takes 20s.
I run on as you can see from my signature I run on Sleuth's ROM. This was very quick untill I added the HTC Home plugin and the HTC Comm. manager.(both the Kaizer versions)
It's definately the amount of links these programms add, especially the Today plugin.
My cold bootup time also has increased, but fortunately my system is very stable and I never have to reboot at all.
I think it's a choice that has to be made - speed or the extra luxuries.

Thanks for that input, I'll do some tests later on to try figure out what exactly is causing it. I'm also thinking about Home plugin - it's very useful, but it's also quite a big, and heavy cow...

Well Sleuth's ROM already has the video dialer so I don't need to add it as an extra.
Basilrsa mentions the home plugin above. Black Majik has this but Sleuth's does not. Maybe it's a combination of having the video dialer + the Home plugin.

The old one. Black Majik has a 2g voice only dialer and Sleuth's has the regular HTC video and voice dialer.

same case here. I'm on black majik & everything fine until I tried the 5-tab HTC Home. all operation slowed down(bootup, /window etc..). Once I removed the 5-tab Home, all things back to normal.

This is strange - after uninstalling Home plugin, Comm Mgr and Dialer, loading \Windows still takes a huge amount of time. I guess I'd need to make a HR in order to carry out proper tests, so I'll just give up...

Custom Animated Startup Screens

I know that this has been discussed elsewhere, but I couldn't see anything in the Hermes forum.
For those of you with devices that support animated startup screens, you may be interested in this. I have been looking at making custom startup animations and have decided to post the two that I have made so far.
If you like them, let me know as I will probably do some more.
Instructions
Copy the file you want to use (all of mine will be called htcsplashani.gif for simplicity if you wish to change it) to the \Windows directory.
Use a registry editor to change the following value
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation\GIFFile
To: \Windows\htcsplashani.gif
You can use Resco Explorer, PHM Regedit etc for this. Personally I use Pocket Commander Pro on my PC which lets you edit the mobile registry from your PC. If you need help with this, please search elsewhere in the forum.
Soft-reset and watch!
The files are:
HTC Black - HTC Black animated logo
HTC WM White - HTC & Windows Mobile logos animated
Please note: I haven't changed the startup sound, but I may do some sort of theme thing later.
Thanks! That's great!
I can do it with my own gif files.
Looking good, thanks!
I am waiting for more...
Question
Burns nice job,
I had a question for you, do you have to have the same size file .gif, and do you have to have the same size .wav file, if you wanted to use your own personal .gif, and .wav files?
my gif files are different filesizes (they are just in the normal filesystem not replacing the ROM) but they have to be 240x320px - i used 7ms delay on each frame

What about the .wav file, and out of curiosity can that be changed to .mp3 format?
am just looking at that at the moment - i don't think you can change it to an mp3. I am having trouble with wav files. It seems that it must be an uncompressed wave file set at 44.1KHz, 16bit stereo. If you use 44.1KHz 16bit mono it plays double speed. So it looks like it doesn't even check the header, it just regards the file as this format.

yup just tested this - has to be that exact format!
I see, what about the size of the .wav file? The at&t startup's are about .793 kb's in size. Can we go beyond that threshold?
going over that :s mien was 258kb and worked fine. so therefore I assume a bigger size would work - something to look into. why you got something in mind?
I was just curious regarding how long we could create a .wav file for, without causing the startup of the device to crash, or adding more time to the startup. My kids love Naruto, and I must say I enjoy watching it with them, so I was thinking of creating something with that kind of theme.
i didnt notice it taking longer as it plays the sound at the same time as the animation and the animation is longer than the sound. i suppose if the sound was longer, the animation would just freeze until it stopped playing - without checking that is
Ok, I'm going to play with this, but before I start let me just get a few things straight the .gif files must be 240 x 320, and you used a 7ms delay. What prog did you use to create the .gif file?
Once I'm done, I will post what I come up with.
Great work Thanks BRO !!

If you have a WM6 ROM based on the Official Core, your phone will not support animated screens.
LCARS - One for all you Star Trek fans
Now I know there must be some Star Trek fans on here lol
I came up with this last night. In my opinion, the best one I've made so far.
Great job, especially the white htc animation!
Can I integrate those animated startup screens on a HTC Prophet? An animation on startup sounds really great!

If your ROM support it yes. I did see a CAB file to install animated startup - but I don't know what devices are supported or if it is the same thing to be honest, so you would have to try it if you can find it.

Custom Note Plugin as Iconbar Replacement

This is the last of piece of crap to lay here before I move on. I'll be putting the blackjack on the auction block.
This mortscript gets data from the registry and then writes to the owner/notes plugin for the homescreen. I also included a sliding panels xml with the notes plugin in it. You can copy the notes plugin part into any home.xml your using. If you put it in a sliding panel xml, then it has to replace the iconbar, no other option for placement.
I also included a place for custom text to be entered(last pic). To edit, open the customNotes.mscr in Notepad and where you see "Enter Custom Text Here", replace what you want inside the quotes. Save it and restart the customNotes.mscr(reboot).
This Needs Mortscript installed to work, I recommend version 4.11b7.
To Install:
1) Unzip and copy the home.xml file into \application data\home folder. The .mscr and .exe file can be placed anywhere in main memory. After placing, click on the mscr file to start up the loop.
2) Create a shortcut to the exe into \windows\startup\
3) Go to Settings\Display\Homescreen and choose the customNotes xml.
To Uninstall:
1) Delete shortcut in \windows\startup\
2) Choose a new layout xml in settings
3) Delete all three files
Note: I added a alternate battery percentage mscr below. If you don't get battery percentage to show, then download it, unzip, and copy over the original customNotes.mscr.

Hey, Showaco. I dread when these days come even though you more or less had an Excalibur in our minds. Please stay in contact. Also, PM the newest headset you are moving on too. Thank you for all your dedication & time spent fiddling with your mobile. It has let hundreds of people like myself make the most of there phones. I love modding and personalizing my mobile due to the fact of people like yourself. Being part of an underground modding community is something special. Wherever the road takes you no matter how frustrated you get with noobs, people are grateful. Others are due credit as well. I could name names....but you already should know who you are.
Thanks
Pfunk
It's funny... Showaco is leaving.. and I'm coming back to the Excalibur.
p.s. Although I might be following him on the touch diamond path soon... hehe
Missed by the community you will be.
I can't speak for all on the forum but i'm sure we all share the same opinion that you shall me missed, you have brought many mods and tweaks to the device we all love the Dash, even though you was an imposter My device would not be as loved as it is now without all the help and support you have provided over the last couple of months. Hope that this is just a break from the Dash forum and that you will still have your input in the tech we have all got so used to.

whats going on here

Hi all,
please excuse the vagueness of this post.
I have just been given a tp2 as a replacement to my td2
My wife also has the tp2 which she got a year ago
the whole look of the phone (software ) is totally diferent
for instance the program page used to list a few progs (your choice) and then you had to hit all progs to get them up.
i am guessing that its a different rom or different version of sense?
also how do i change/edit/remove some programs from the list?
cheers guys
you'll need a registry editor to get the job done here, you can find that in the Theme's and apps section, i'll be back with a link, but you have to navigate to --
HKLM\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu
and where you see
EnableManilaStartMenu = 1
change the one to a zero and restart the phone, should work.
thanks for that
sorry to be thick but does that just enable me to move the prog icons or delete the progs as well
appreciate the help

You don't need to edit the registry to turn off Manila. This is easily done from the Today settings.

Different issues, my friend. Sense is the UI (aka Manila versions 2.1 and 2.5) you see when you start the phone. It is on by default, but you can turn it off in the Today setup and use the much less memory intensive standard Window Mobile screen. Go into the Today setup and turn off Sense by removing the check mark in the list and putting a check mark on Windows Default.
As for the bloatware that comes with the phone, anything on the ROM can not be removed except by flashing a new ROM. You can delete shortcuts from your start menu for programs you don't/won't use, but the programs will still be there. Do a search for Crud Scraper, a neat little tool that can 'remove' stuff from specific phone models (it worked great on my Tilt 2). Beyond that, read up as much as you can on modding your phone. This place is a great resource. Unfortunately, easy answers are hard to come by. You have to roll up your sleeves and get a little dirty.
