Best Barcode Scanner for SGS? - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

Can someone please recommend a descent/best Barcode Scanner for the SGS?

you said it already it is called "Barcode Scanner"
find it on Android Market
freebie
works great!

Thank you. I just thought there was a particular one that everyone liked best.

For me, ixMAT Scanner works best. It reads tiny QR Codes from a far distance without problems.
"Barcode Scanner" always gave me problems scanning tiny QR Codes.

Thank you. I'll look for it in the market.

Also check out QuickMark in the Market
It reads QR and few others, and will also create QR codes for you to share.

appreciate the extra tips. Is there any signicant difference between the two?

Actually, I've now dumped a dedicated barcode scanner app, because Google goggle's supports barcode scanning too, as well as a lot of other things, so it is more useful (supports cropping too).
Why use a dedicated app when Google goggle's works as well but also does other things?

Personally I use the 'Barcode Scanner' in the marketplace. Seems to do the job for me. Never had any problems with it, you should try it out.

IIRC it isn't as fast on the load or the scan, all-in-ones are nice. particularly when you are accessing all of those things continuously (e.g. App: scan barcode > mkt > back to app: take pic to be analyzed and compared against the web). I love goggles for when I use it, but I stopped using it for barcodes a while ago.

I downloaded the ixMat scanner and it seems to be a very nice app.

the problem with google goggle is damn slooooooow compared to the other mentioned app, and also it requires data connection.
the other apps, it simply scans it, and then you can do whatever you want with the scanned code.

I have quite extensively tested various of the scanners from the market and for me NeoReader works by far best. It is extremely quick at scanning and also works from almost any distance and angle, no need to try to fit the code into a predefined window before scanning. Highly recommended.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

good suggestion
i actually like this one better now
it can deal with those tiny little data codes as you can select the area of the screen to scan

[APP] Midomi Music recognition app better than Shazam MusicID

Midomi from the Samsung Omnia II :
Midomi is a Windows Mobile app, which lets you hum or play a song to get the song’s title and artist name.
This is the same app found on the new Samsung Omnia II
Features:
- hum songs to identify
- play song from radio or media player to identify
- lists multiple results after database search
Download (Thanks Quentin-)
Please go over to this thread if you like his work!
He made some patches so that Midomi now fully works!!

Its seems that the original link does not work so I have added a mirror in rapidshare. As Ikkari has said, still only works via WIFI.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/265103464/Samsung_Midomi.cab
Update:
Midomi recently became a PAID app
You'll find it in the Windows Mobile Marketplace for $5.99 Therefore I have to remove the link. Btw when it was free it was just good, but not good enough to pay for it, sometime works sometime doesn´'t. I won't pay 6 bucks for it unless they will provide a higher accuaracy and precision version.
I never got shazam to work, but this works perfectly in combination with WIFI. Thanks for sharing!
just perfect,thanks for sharing!!
Hi new to the forum, I have a stock rom i910 and have unlimited data plan.. I installed the program, but it caused the musicid to stop working. Is there a fix for this? I would like to have both apps one for wifi one for 3g. Also the picture for the musicid app changed is there anyway to restore it?
Thanks to all for this great site.
I installed Midomi on my touch pro and its running perfectly without havung to use wifi mind you!! all systems a go here, this app beats musicid in many ways an its free which makes it even better!!

Don't touch the Menu button it will crash Midomi, you don't need the Menu anyway.
Just do the registry tweak and it will work!
Woo hoo, my first every post here on this great community!!
Anyhow, back to the matter: I have found Midomi not to be as good as Shazam functionally, it certainly cant recognise music from a variety of genres which I've tested out, these range from pop, dnb, dubstep, 80's metal and classical. Shazam recognized many more tracks than Midomi. However Midmi does have a tap/sing feature which is average (not really spot on, even when I play an actual song over it), but its general layout looks nice, which I guess is a plus if you're not bothered about functionality. Shazam works great over WiFi as well as 3G, hope this helps as a we review.
Midomi
Main purpose functionality 3/5
Extra feature 3/5 - Good concept of sing/tap, just doesnt work well
Looks 4/5
Shazam
Main purpose functioanlity 4/5
Extra features 2/5 - No sing/tap, but you can send IDs to other friends
Looks - 3/5 - okay(ish)

Nice find ...
Working perfectly fine now (well, except for the Menu ... ).
I all agree with the test from itsallshots.
Midomi isn't so fantastic in recognition (for example in french music).

Chrome to phone - rocks!

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up - I can't believe I have lived without this for so long. Just fantastic.
Agree, fantastic tool.
Im using mozilla as there is an add-on for that too.
So, except for google maps and youtube videos what other uses for ChromeToPhone are there?
Well, you can push any link to your phone and not depend on QR codes. I think thats cool. Just an example, you come across a nice picture you want to use as a wallpaper. Just push a button, beats fiddling with bluetooth/usb after DLing or even using a QR code generator.
Totally agree!
This's just amazing!
I love it and I'm sure I'll use it often!

You're able to dial a phone numbers. You just have to select the phone number in the browser then click on the button. It'll directly send it to your phone and open the dialer application.
Also you're able to select a text and after you click the button in the browser it will be copied in your Android clipboard
Totally! I've used it a couple of times today already.
The fact that it sends maps straight to Google Maps on the phone is gonna be super handy for trips.
I was looking for this. Awesome tool!
It is cool, but it needs to be able to go the other way too.
How many times have you clicked on a page that's slow or cumbersome on your phone, one that's just better suited to your laptop browser? Would be so handy to be able to send from phone to chrome.
It was raised on the code.google site but they said they're not working on it
i found firefox/chrome plugin but i also want IE8 plugin, any one found this yet?
yep, tried it yesterday on mozilla firefox and it works great

It is a puch service so your phone doesn't actively check for the links sent to the phone but it is pushed to the phone and then the phone downloads it.
Just how the push email works.
Clever stuff!
Can you use it for file transfer, eg put the file into dropbox, copy the shared link, Chrome2Phone and download from the phone's browser?
EDIT: Just realised, there's a Dropbox app, er, for that.

Is there any way to disable the notification sound for this app. I know i can disable notification sounds, but i would like to disable it only for this...
And maybe I should ask this on the Maps brut thread, but when sending a link from google maps it opens in stock Maps app instead of Maps brut (which I chose for default), if I uninstall stock Maps app it just won't load the link.
Does anyone knows a way to launch maps links with Maps brut?
thanks!

List of Apps - Needed/Missing

I thought I'll compile a list of IMP apps that are missing. If someone knows a decent alternative to these please suggest.
1. Amazon
2. Kindle - I know this is coming
3. Skype
4. Good IM app - Like Fringe or Palringo
5. Comics reader - comixology (DC or Marvel)
6. Ustream or QIK
7. Dropbox or an app for SkyDrive

3. Siriusxm radio app
4.Opera Browser (hoping they allow alternative browsers with a future update)

7 Private Chat ...an app from android that locks ur fone and gives u 2 passcodes it gives u a dummy code that will open another app and a real code to get u to ur text messages
Opera Mini - absolutely
BTW, InternetExplorer doesn't support my banks online banking
BeejiveIM > Fring and Palringo. Beejive is more apt to use Push Notifications, removing the need to multitask the App, ever... It's expensive, though. I downloaded the Android trial and 2 days later Facebook added chat. Byebye Beejive
There's also WhatsApp.
The first smartphone OS to offer a worthy alternative to Blackberry Messenger will win big, I think
Microsoft said they won't disallow apps that duplicate functionality, but I don't know if they'll allow you to change the default browser.
That would be very bad. Opera Mini is even available on iPhone.

after how many years though?
the reason you won't see opera/firefox/chrome on wp any time soon is due to the restrictions still on the languages. wp uses VB/C#, which does not allow for C++ which a lot of these more complex programs are written in. Though OEMs have capabilities to write native code.
I am pretty satisfied for the most part with the apps on my HD7 but I do want Skydrive integration and limited multitasking for apps like LastFM.
Bing also should be updated to match the superior iPhone app.
Many things have to be improved.
IE is great but lacks support for many features.
I got an app for amazon in "testing" in the marketplace. I can give out the xap if you like it, It's gonna be free anyway.
It has limited functionality at this time, but I'm improving it as I found new things to add.

1. Official Google Voice App - I know it might be a problem to intercept outgoing calls and/or using GV when you tap "Send Text" from the People Hub, but an official app from Google would probably be more fluid than what's available now. GVoice is a good solution for now, but it could use some small improvements. Who better to do that than Google?
2. I know emulators are not allowed, but I'd like to see a homebrew PSX and SNES Emulator. I'd definately pay the developer for it, Paypal maybe since Marketplace won't allow it... that's how it's done for WinMo.
3. BeyondPod

I didn't like it very much. The interface was a bit whacky and It is not very proactive in respect to setting addresses. It will not predict you simply have to type it all in. Navigon is free and offline and seems to be better for me and looks a lot more professional. Check it out karl999999 it's downloadable from the market for Australia at least. If not use market enabler and set your sim as Telstra AU then go back to market and try

for most people navigon is not free.
and you can not compare using navigon with a trick, to navit which is free and opensource.
navit is developed by a small group, if you have ideas goto to their wiki and post your suggestions.
I haven't really tried Navit while driving.
It is a pity the Cloudmade maps do not work any more. Pity, because you could download the whole of Europe and place it on the external SD. I think I'll wait updating until this is fixed.
I was not able to find a decent changelog on the Navit site. Pity. And searching for addresses is indeed not so easy, but the biggest problem is that the default country is the locale setting of the phone. It would be a lot better if it remembered the last choice.
That said, Navdroyd is not perfect either. It looks more refined, but Navdroyd had a very confusing user interface too. It routes well however and the price is okay.
I'm missing gpsmid (also open source) that I used on my Sony-Ericsson c702. Also problems with maps (couldn't be too large) but good address search and a nice displayed track to check where you have been walking. Routing was ok too. There was a start made porting that to Android using J2MEpolish but it seems to have died down.
Now I'm still looking for a walkaround GPS program, like a handheld receiver that shows a track where I've been and some waypoints I've set. If possible with an offline Openstreetmap background. Haven't fount it yet. Navdroyd does not display a track, but worse is that when panning the map it switches off the GPS, and I have to select menu - my location - show my location again.

[APP][Alpha2][Jan 09 2015] Wear GPS

Out of curiosity I quickly put together Wear GPS test app.
It uses build-in GPS only! (Doesn't matter if you connected or disconnected)
Huge thanks to satstat [email protected] https://github.com/mvglasow/satstat for the implementation of SNR and Gps position views.
Install it on your phone and it will sync mobile app. Phone app is solely for installation/uninstallation.
Please let me know how your gps behaves. Mine is really strange - sometimes will fix quickly at home and sometimes outside just jumps between 11/20 to 0/20 to 4/20 to 12/20 withing 5 secs
I guess this attributes to zigzaging track.
Operation - Scroll face right to get into Sat positions view and then left to get back, Long press to exit.

0.1 Initial release
Cool! nice app!
BTW, speaking of jumps, look at the graphs for pace I got with "my tracks" during my last test. As you can see there are a lot of times when the gps signal is lost. This does not happen when I use my tracks in my nexus 5.
This is cool. maybe you could give Runtastic and Endomodo some tips. I haven't found a running app that works with the native GPS yet, they all seem to only work if the phone is tethered to the watch during a run.
didnt find a fitting thread but you look like haveing a plan bout gps...
Im more paranoid user and was wondering, if I turn the gps of my phone, does this also entirely disable the gps module of my smartwatch?
And if the answer is "no" how can this total disable of gps be acchieved?
It looks to work fine on my SWR50.
What I'm missing is a page with ALTITUDE, BEARING, DOP, SATS written in BIG, since on the 1st screen is VERY very difficult to read while you are moving (too small text).
Can you?

FANTASTIC: great job.
Maybe fonts size could be even bigger in page 3.
Thanks a lot: bravo!
great app!
font sice could be a littel bit greater, and is it show the satellites number?
the app itself works like a charm, except if i do a screenshot at the android wear manager, the app closes - but that happens with ervery app if i try to make a screenshot.
my swr50 has no hopping at all, just the altitude is too high (approx. 40 meters), but that is even the case if i open the developer menue.
Altitude is what GPS reports, but it is not reliable at low altitudes, better on a plane.
With app closure it is wear 5.0 feature I believe, but I plan to implement persistent notification in app closure. Once i find some free time - I'll do it...
Bumping an old thread, but still relevant at least ; loaded it on to my new SW3, and seems to work great. Only complaint of course is can't do the swipe to close; not the end of the world, but would be a good future improvement.
Still, thanks for the work!
When a 0.3 release?
