List of Apps - Needed/Missing - Windows Phone 7 General

I thought I'll compile a list of IMP apps that are missing. If someone knows a decent alternative to these please suggest.
1. Amazon
2. Kindle - I know this is coming
3. Skype
4. Good IM app - Like Fringe or Palringo
5. Comics reader - comixology (DC or Marvel)
6. Ustream or QIK
7. Dropbox or an app for SkyDrive

1. Palringo
2. Qik
3. Siriusxm radio app
4.Opera Browser (hoping they allow alternative browsers with a future update)
5. Google Maps
6. Loud Talks (a nextel chirp app from winmo)
7 Private Chat ...an app from android that locks ur fone and gives u 2 passcodes it gives u a dummy code that will open another app and a real code to get u to ur text messages

Opera Mini - absolutely
BTW, InternetExplorer doesn't support my banks online banking

BeejiveIM > Fring and Palringo. Beejive is more apt to use Push Notifications, removing the need to multitask the App, ever... It's expensive, though. I downloaded the Android trial and 2 days later Facebook added chat. Byebye Beejive
There's also WhatsApp.
The first smartphone OS to offer a worthy alternative to Blackberry Messenger will win big, I think
Microsoft said they won't disallow apps that duplicate functionality, but I don't know if they'll allow you to change the default browser.

That would be very bad. Opera Mini is even available on iPhone.
It's the best solution to browse when travelling.

after how many years though?
the reason you won't see opera/firefox/chrome on wp any time soon is due to the restrictions still on the languages. wp uses VB/C#, which does not allow for C++ which a lot of these more complex programs are written in. Though OEMs have capabilities to write native code.

I am pretty satisfied for the most part with the apps on my HD7 but I do want Skydrive integration and limited multitasking for apps like LastFM.
Bing also should be updated to match the superior iPhone app.

Many things have to be improved.
IE is great but lacks support for many features.

I got an app for amazon in "testing" in the marketplace. I can give out the xap if you like it, It's gonna be free anyway.
It has limited functionality at this time, but I'm improving it as I found new things to add.

1. Official Google Voice App - I know it might be a problem to intercept outgoing calls and/or using GV when you tap "Send Text" from the People Hub, but an official app from Google would probably be more fluid than what's available now. GVoice is a good solution for now, but it could use some small improvements. Who better to do that than Google?
2. I know emulators are not allowed, but I'd like to see a homebrew PSX and SNES Emulator. I'd definately pay the developer for it, Paypal maybe since Marketplace won't allow it... that's how it's done for WinMo.
3. BeyondPod

Best WM Twitter client for HD: PockeTwit?

I need to present a Winmobile Twitter client, and have stumbled over PockeTwit http://code.google.com/p/pocketwit/.
But how does one control it on the HD? There is no menu on the twits screen. FYI I read that with 5-minute updates set it generates around 5MB of mobile traffic per day.
Recommendations for any other client?
Update: Ah, I got it - the twits list needs to be finger dragged to left or right, and reveals the menu items. Of course, its a touch device

Hey mate, not sure if this is the sort of thing you are looking for, i use it, let me know if its of any help.

twitter
Hello. I searched for a good twitter client for a while now but not found a client that runs smoothly. pocketwit works best of them I found, but im not satisfied with it. Is there anyone who found something better?
I used to use Pockettwit - loved the interface, found it a joy to use - but bloated
I use cetwit
Code:
http://www.kosertech.com/blog/?p=346
Works well on the HD, set the dpi to 67 under themes/notifications and activate avatars!

I use cetwit to. but its not so fingerfriendly....
having issues with Cetwit - have moved along to 'tiny twitter'
pocketwit seems like the best twitter of all on windows mobile right now. i tried tinytwitter but it doesn't update properly
Pockettwit is great. A flip to the left and you have lots of menu, a flip to the right, even more options. Great for twittering, and the bugs are being worked out as we speak.
New addition, now in Beta (free during beta):

using twikini also, seems solid and finger friendly
tried twickini - not impressed - even in small font the text for each twitter goes off screen so you have to choose that specific twitter to read the full text.
Also, fastest update setting is every 5mins, which doesnt feel anything like quick enough.
on the plus side, it loads quickly and doesnt appear to use much memory. i'll be sticking with pockettwit though.
List keeps growing, here's a nice home plugin for WM: TwitToday - twit directly from your home screen or Secondtoday (if you use no other GUI).
http://dalelane.co.uk/page.php?id=1047
+1 to Twikini. Just does what it says in the tin ! Perfect for me
and another for twikini. written in c it seems much more responsive and an update is out in the next couple of days.
Wow. Listen. I have bought a brand new HTC Touch HD, which I'm starting to like.... But 2 major problems:
1) ActiveSync suddenly wasn't working anymore.
2) I couldn't open my attachments when receiving e-mails.
3) Twikini wasn't updating properly anmore.
Alright, point 3 is an easy fix:
After uninstalling Twikini, point 1 and 2 are both resolved!
How sick is that? Wow. Hate Twikini from now on (it was the latest version). Alright, i know what Beta means, but hey, don't mess with my other applications!
Did you try a hard reset before start using the device?
Twikini runs well on my numerous times flashed TouchHD and Treo Pro.
Giving feedback to developer would give better results rather than just hate an application while the problem lays probably somewhere else
pocket twit
i go with pocketwit as twikini doesn't have a search feature. Also you have to pay for twikini yes i know its dirt cheap, but they aint having my cc details.
However since flashing the latest energy 6.5 rom pocke twit will not work. Anybody know any solutions?
Twikini as well for me.
PocketTwit is ok but a bit heavy in terms of footprint. TinyTwitter is good but it doesn't close the process when the app is closed which is painful. Bit annoying..twikini is my shout!
Twikini....
Hi guys,
Ive been using Twikini for a while now, and have tried others.
I highly recomend this app, and is very easy to use.

iPhone 4.0 will have multitasking? WP7, you better have that as well

Just came:
http://www.appleinsider.com/article...software_to_deliver_multitasking_support.html
Still not sure though ... but quite interesting.
If that is true, WP7 better to have it as well!
It's already been hinted that WP7S has multitasking. When you click back on the phone it's goes back to the last application or menu you were using.
Let's say you open Pictures, then you Open the Web Browser. If you click the back button then it will go back to pictures.
Yes, I know that, WP7 will have some sort of multitasking capability.
I just want to post news from other platform competitor (iPhone) so we can see that they are working on something ...
This year would be interesting on mobile world (WP7, iPhone 4, iPad?, HP Slate?).

Speaking of Tables, did you know that LG is supposedly making a WP7S tablet. I don't really care about that, but there are leaked videos of MS Courier which is the hottest thing I've ever seen. Also MS has some touch based OS called MS Locus. It's seens to be Webos, Android, and Iphone OS combined. Here's a pic

Please explain to me what multitasking is. It's a mobile device, what are you expecting multiple windows like you for A Full Blown Desktop OS? You can only view one app at a time. What kind of multitasking do you want? When you switch to another app, the app you were previously using pauses. If it was a IM, Web Browsing, Email or any other web based App it will continue to send information. It's the same if not similar multitasking that you see in Android.
Multitasking means that applications are actually running in the background.
On WP7S, they just save their sate and close or pause. That means they're not running = no multitasking.
(I might be wrong and maybe they are actually running, but everything currently hints that this is not the case and there's indeed no multitasking).
On Android, applications keep running. They just save their sate in case something goes wrong and they have to be closed (e.g. if the device runs out of RAM).
Yes, but is that a big difference? What does keeping an App open in the background benefit your anyway as long as it's readily available? It's not like that app is completely closes, it's just pauses to reduce it's footprint. When you go back it's immdiately available without any loading. Not like you see on the other fruity platform.
multi-tasking might not be really important from a normal user view---> i might be wrong....
however on a enterprise point of view, it is important. running ipblue at the background waiting for call or using office communicator at the background while checking out the email.
This has been discussed ad nauseum already. In many cases you need the application to actually run in background. MS and Apple do it for their own apps such as the music player. The whole question is whether we'll be able to use third-party apps that need it as well.

true, believe in the near future, we will have more prominent answer.
This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0rd3TD9g_Y
+ WP7 design and MS services
= perfect
(notice how elegantly it multitasks and how it also has tiles? It just looks ugly)
That's probably the only OS that actually has that type of multitasking besides the Pre.

who gives a **** about the iphone ??? if uve handled a snapdragon phone , and after u get an iphone in ur hand , ur wipe ur ass with it and its ugly low res screen
its history , stop riding it
WP7 will be king
Iam very confident in windows phone7 and its ability to handle Xbox games and tasks. So confident that for WVGA devices like touchpro2 I made a demo of what it would be like and I put it here.
My best guess is that WP7 still uses windows CE as its code base and inherits multitasking support. Seems like multitasking is not a big deal though as WP7 moves away from the multiple application concept.
Although we have heard rumors that WP7S will have preemptive multitasking, if you think about it, the live tiles really defeat the purpose of multitasking.
Say you have a (multi-platform) twitter app.
In Android, you can leave this open and come back to it anytime and it will be up-to-date, but you don't receive any notification.
When using live tiles in WP7S, you can run your twitter app and then switch over to another app, and, although your twitter app will close, while your doing other things your app's live tile can be checking for updates periodically and even display the most recent tweet directed towards you on the homesreen. That way, when you go back to the homesreen, you can see that there's a new tweet, and launch the now-updated app.

Chrome to phone - rocks!

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up - I can't believe I have lived without this for so long. Just fantastic.
Agree, fantastic tool.
Im using mozilla as there is an add-on for that too.
So, except for google maps and youtube videos what other uses for ChromeToPhone are there?
Well, you can push any link to your phone and not depend on QR codes. I think thats cool. Just an example, you come across a nice picture you want to use as a wallpaper. Just push a button, beats fiddling with bluetooth/usb after DLing or even using a QR code generator.
Totally agree!
This's just amazing!

You're able to dial a phone numbers. You just have to select the phone number in the browser then click on the button. It'll directly send it to your phone and open the dialer application.
Also you're able to select a text and after you click the button in the browser it will be copied in your Android clipboard
Totally! I've used it a couple of times today already.
The fact that it sends maps straight to Google Maps on the phone is gonna be super handy for trips.
I was looking for this. Awesome tool!
It is cool, but it needs to be able to go the other way too.
How many times have you clicked on a page that's slow or cumbersome on your phone, one that's just better suited to your laptop browser? Would be so handy to be able to send from phone to chrome.
It was raised on the code.google site but they said they're not working on it

It is a puch service so your phone doesn't actively check for the links sent to the phone but it is pushed to the phone and then the phone downloads it.
Just how the push email works.
Clever stuff!
Can you use it for file transfer, eg put the file into dropbox, copy the shared link, Chrome2Phone and download from the phone's browser?
EDIT: Just realised, there's a Dropbox app, er, for that.

And maybe I should ask this on the Maps brut thread, but when sending a link from google maps it opens in stock Maps app instead of Maps brut (which I chose for default), if I uninstall stock Maps app it just won't load the link.

I don't know why there's an app since the built in functionality is already really good.
After you've read the blog entry you will (or "should") understand.
If you don't, then you don't need the app.

don't know what the big deal about this is either. At least they aren't saying "if u want our services buy our devices " like google is (still no google apps on wp7) and there are many wp7 users who want this, there are also people on android who want easier access to hotmail or windows live messenger and there's nothing wrong with that.

In order for skydrive to be successful it has to be multi-platform. Dropbox is where it is today becuase of the widespread support and api for it.

I'm betting that with Skydrive seeming to be a big part of Windows 8, that Microsoft really doesn't care what device you use, as long as they can get your foot in the door with Skydrive.

Microsoft is late as always. Dropbox and box.net have already given iOS and android users 5-50 gb of storage which isn't tied to a Windows live id. Their apps were out a long time ago.
Microsoft needs to push its platform. WP7 can and will push their services by proxy. XB360 as well, to a lesser extent.

This is pretty sweet. Being both a user of Windows Phone 7 and the iPhone at the same time, it will make it very easy for me to access the photos I've taken with my Windows Phone 7 from my iPhone.
I doubt Apple will be so open with their iCloud?
This is also great for Windows Phone 7 users to be able to share docs with co workers that are using an iPhone.

iCloud and SkyDrive are not the same type of product. It was developed as a storage solution primarily for Mac/iOS users and apps, and not necessarily to be general purpose like SkyDrive and Dropbox. Box.net gave 50gb storage to ios users so most probably took that offer and ran with it. I know I did.
I mean you can't really go in there and browse it like the hard drive the way you can those other products.

I have tested both versions: WP7 and iOS.
The WP7 version is a bad joke:
- I can´t upload or watch videos (possible on iPhone)
- I can´t open word documents or pdf files (download error and offer to try it in the browser ?)
- Only upload of pictures is possible
Edit:
- not even my in the office hub created notes I can open
What I like is that I can delete files or folders and that I can see all shared folders of my friends on one page.
I hope the app will be updated soon...
I don´t understand either why MS allows better skydrive support for iOS than for WP.

Hm.. Not true.
1) I can open and stream videos and music. Pay attention that the codecs you used are supported by WP7.
2) I can open PDF, Excel, Word... No issues here.
The only thing I currently don't know about is the possibility of uploading videos. I just haven't tried it yet. But I believe it's possible as long as they are still in the appropriate section of the pictures hub rather than in the Zune hub.

The key point: It's developed entirely using TouchDevelop, Microsoft's Research on device programming environment. Means it is developed solely right on Windows Phone itself.
On device programming could actually turn out to be a big thing.
Hope to see it on XDA TV.

Hi Lance,
you may review my free apps (see my signature) VoiceTranslator and SilverDict. Both apps was announced here on xda, already published on the MP (and VoiceTranslator recently hits 200K downloads) and have xda support threads (what's why I don't want to repost pictures).
Thanks!

I'm glad you're interested in it, by the way, if you like to have a look at the apps "source" go here: https://www.touchdevelop.com/ckbttdal
Good news everyone, I have reviewed all your App's and shortly look for them in a future episode.
Also, have a WP8 App? Let me know!
I still have lot to learn and to improve a lot my apps, but this is one of my top apps with around 300k downloads:
Mega ringtones HD free:
http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=e680a7ec-847a-453b-bb90-a474c5ff95d2
Available in the next languages: English (as primary), Russian, Spanish and Korean
In next updates will add: Italian and Portuguese languages, some fixes and sounds that users asked.
Sometimes could crash server (I host sounds in my own server, but buying more bandwidth as my apps is being more downloaded).

Great news, good to hear.
No WP8 apps in the near future from my side, since the SDK runs exclusively on Windows 8.
- What a pity, Microsoft.
Hey, lseidman, where is your video review? I've tried to search xda-tv but found nothing...
i develop a first file manager with send file via bluetooth (Unique File Manager) and wait for your review
