[Q] Are all new Desires coming with Froyo 2.2? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I've found a supplier of desires here in UAE.
New boxed, from Hong Kong.
But, with v 2.1. (WWE).
Shop say they can upgrade to 2.2 fro me, but I'll have to buy it first as they will have to open the box ......
Why should a new phone come with the old 2.1?
They say they have a high turnover and it is not old stock.
Any pointers / advice very welcome.

I don't see the problem.
Just get it and upgrade bud.

OK, I just don't want to buy something second rate; I assumed that new phones would already have 2.2 installed.
Shop say they will upgrade to 2.2 before I pay!
Happier now, thanks.

I got my Desire nearly 2 weeks ago and it was shipped with Froyo 2.2.

Thanks - back to the shop then ...

They may have had it in stock for ages - if anything it's better to get an old one as you'll likely get an AMOLED screen...I really don't seen the issue here as you can just do the update yourself once you get it

Thanks for the replies - I just needed some encouragement to get it here in Dubai rather than wait till Xmas in the UK ...

8925 (AT&T Flip) is on the way

A coworker and I just got 8525's about 1 month ago....we finally complained loud enough to our AT&T rep and he is going to wave the 30 day return policy and take our old 8525's back and give us the new 8925's. Hopefully it'll be a good upgrade for us.
My main problem is we've already up graded to WM6. Should I "downgrade" to WM5 since that's what they came with our not worry about. I have not told him yet that we upgraded our phones but I also don't want to upset him since he is offering good customer support/service.
thanks,
Paul
its called the tilt not the flip. and no u dont have to downgrade because wm6 is out for the 8525...

True but I'd suggest installing the Official AT&T ROM....
very good point.. i overlooked that. on a sad note, this may be my last post in the hermes forum due to the fact that my baby boy tilt will be arriving tuesday or wensday!
(got it thru XBM ..they are now exchanging 8525s for 8925s if u've had 3 or more 8525s)
XBM? Gotta link?
XBM = Xchange By Mail, it is the warranty replacement department.
yes, and after 3 8525s u have the option to change to a different make a model. i pushed for the tilt saying its the most compitable with the 8525 they offered a 750v but i kept insisting on a tilt so they finally gave in.
great job on achieving the update! I bought my imate jasjam overseas so no update for me
i'm considering trading it in on importgsm.com but i'm not sure if i'll get more for it from them or wait till i head back to the middle east in december.
enjoy the kaiser! i can't wait till i get my hands on one for myself!
Thanks folks....Since I did not backup this unit before installing WM6, can anyone tell me which ROM I need to install so it'll be "factory fresh".
thanks again!

I think there is one still out there on the HTC website. I recently ordered a Tilt as well and should be coming in Wednesday.
Here is the link to download the Official WM6 download. I can't see why ATT would have problem exchanging it if it had the official WM6 release.
http://download.america.htc.com/RUU...502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
It's not the official WM6 release. It's some cooked one that I found on this site...Last night I dl'ed RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship
I'm hoping this is the right one. I'm kind of a newbie and I really don't want to brick this 8525 before I send it back.
8925 Exchange is real!
I co-sign Jakeypoo 100 percent! Today I called AT&T and complained about my 8525. Well, it's been my 3rd warranty exchange device and all I told the lady is that the problem I've been having is a chronic issue and that I would like a difference device. She put me on hold, then got back on the line and offered a Motorola Q, The Treo 750, and the 8925 as options. Of course I chose the 8925. They are sending me a brand new full kit too! To think I almost bought one three week ago too? The new device should be here on Friday so advice to you guys, if you've had a couple warranty replacements, call in and get your new Tilts!
Ok no my Q is After we make a Sprite Back Up
Wht if i Loose my Phone, But have saved the Sprite backed up from my Storage card on my PC in a Folder
So if damged or Lose my phone, wil Buy a NEW
If i put my Sprite Backup in a NEW Tilt phone & restore it,
will it make it Just like my OLD phone ?

TP2 update For Vodafone UK users

Hey guys, I came across this! Apperently Voda has released an update for the tp2! Follow this link!
http://devicehelp.vodafone.co.uk/firmwaredevice.php?ModelID=384&e=0
Now all it says is that you can improve efficiancy my downloading this new update! What in the name of god does that mean? thats a very vague description of an update! Anyway i have downloaded it but not yet flashed it to my phone!
Anyone who has flashed it can let us know how efficient their phones become!
PS.. I wish they have gotten rid of the GOD awful Voda theme!
Elfangor
I'm sure I have seen this mentioned elsewhere, I think this is just the standard software, they have just got around to putting on their website.
Vodafone TP2 Update
Hardly worth the updater to be honest best option is to dump the rom and hardspl your phone then upgrade the rom to 6.5
This is definately an update. My phone is a couple of months old and it's ROM is 1.14.161.5, the new ROM is 1.14.161.6, which is what the more recent phones are already coming with. I want to know what the updates/improvements are before I flash it.
Let us know how it goes on
Cheers
Barney
The only question I have, is does the update get rid of the awful red and white background and change it to a "proper" all black one?
I wouldn't bother mate , i've gone from the branded voda rom and never looked back since... get it hardSPL'd and stick a nice stable Win6.5/ Manilla 2.1 ROM on it, you wont regret it.
Company phone! Have to stick with the official one unfortunately. at least until the guarentee runs out.
cheers
Barney

Got to feel sorry for all those Vodafone users

So looking in the news, Vodafone are saying that the 2.2 update WITHOUT all the branding and bloatware will be out in the next week or so.
Certainly looks like a U turn but also looks like they are bringing out 2.2 sooner than planned to keep people happy after various Facebook campaigns etc.
So we will now have the HTC 2.2. build that (looking at the problems with it) was rushed out too soon under pressure from owners and the media before it was ready and now Vodafone are going to rush out their build which is built on top of the rushed out HTC build.
Am I the only one seeing what is coming here?
well, it persuaded me to root my phone, and i've been much happier since!
thank you leedroid!
HTC 2.2 build is OK, not had any issues myself (other than Market being a bit slow) - only got it yesterday OTA after unrooting my phone to see if it was better than the custom ROMs (and tbh, for what I use it for, it is)

hello, your Desire will not be branded.. thanks to the people (and me) who had complained about the 1.24.161.3 uptade (vodafone branded, very buggy & slow!)
enjoy the phone, dont root or do anything with it as it is your first android phone so it would be very likely to brick the phone if you do not read & or know enough
I am pretty sure you will have 2.2, however 2.1 is not that bad so no poit messing around with the phone to get 720p etc.. for me- it made no differace, just wanted the horrible branding off!
nice to see someone live close to me.. never saw anyone clocer than london..
hope this helps & enjoy the phone

welcome, to the dark side !!
thank you all... that would be sweet if its not branded like my tp2 was....
im inbetween slutton & croydon and work in east london atm.
ive heard alot of good things about android, only every really had a lil play with 1 or 2 android phones in the shops, couldnt test the internet ect...
but i wasnt keen on flashing my phones, must be why i got so annoyed with the tp2.
i will check out the link posted, and i will probly be posting up about more stuff if i cant find it in the search function.
You wouldn't be dissappointed with the Desire, infact, you wouldn't be dissapointed with any of hTC's android phones, especially unbranded ones. I strongly suggest you to flash a custom rom tho, they are quicker and more efficient than stock roms and should lengthen your battery life compared to normal stock roms.
Well I hope you will enjoy the phone, and have fun in the Desire forum
started using my desire last night, havnt evan had time to set anything up on it, i need to get used to the touch screen, soo used to having touch & type lol
have installed a few things such ass whatapp & juice defender because the people i work with rate that app highly with there galaxy S's

[Q] Desire Z Gingerbread out in other countries but....

Im in london england with an unbranded desire z never rooted...still no 2.3.3 gingerbread update even though its been released on vodafone here and other central european countries...im not really obsessed with htc sense so im not bothered about losing that if i was to root my phone because CM7 looks pretty great...
So my question is (1) what the thoughts on the official gingerbread update whatever country you in?
2) Is it worth waiting for or should i just think about rooting my phone?
Some say the unbranded desire z update might reach UK handsets end of summer.
Dont want to wait that long for a terrible update since there is no root for it at the moment.
(never rooted a phone but willing to take the risk if means better performance)
Thanks.
Virtuous 2.0 is stock gingerbread with many performance enhancements. It's a great rom. It's very smooth and stable.
I think there is temp root exploit for the official GB release. But rooting froyo is a lot simpler and the method is tried and tested. My recommendation is to do it. You won't be disappointed.
If you want to root this is the best guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Thanks alot..i will do some more reading on that rom..and hopefully get it done tonight.

I read around that rom advised by cj but i thought i would wait till the 31st since HTC says an offical update is coming end of june. If that doesn't come through i'll have to brave it out and root.
End of the month and no unbranded update from HTC, though Vodafone have theirs and 3 have been sending out unbranded updates to their customers... Sigh @ HTC.
