[Q] Flashing back to a stock RUU ROM - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, sorry for the n00b question, I've only been on Android a couple of days. So, I managed to root my device with unrevoked, and i have the Clokwork recovery on there. I even managed to install a custom ROM which I absolutely love. What I hate is the Telus screen that comes up in the very beginning when you power the phone on. From what I've read, the only way to get rid of that is to flash a stock ROM again. So I downloaded the latest one available (I think it just got posted an hour or two ago), and when i try to install it, everything is fine until the RUU wants to boot into Bootloader. At this point my phone does nothing, and the RUU program enters recovery.
Do I have to reroot my phone somehow? Or maybe clear off the current ROM first? What am I doing wrong? Again, my appologizes for the extreme n00bness.

To return to RUU, u musr copy the rom from a gold card
from my Desire + XDA App

You must use gold card to do that..
from my Desire + XDA App

If it isn't barnded, i know that it is not necesary a gold card. Am i right?

If device isn't branded just download and copy to root of sdcard PB99IMG stock rom image. You can find recovery guides, try search forum.
After you have stock rom, try again...

I have a dhd with latest 2.3.3 ota stock rom for europe. I tried the adv ace hack tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821 and I got Cwm but no s-off. And the rom did not want to boot.
I tried a custom rom flashed through cwm but it wont boot either. Im getting stuck on the white screen.
Im currently downloaded a pd98img of stock rom. I am wondering if I put it on the sdcard and flash it through hboot will the phone work again?
Need help asap

Well you won't be able to flash a custom rom if you have s-on. Yes it should work again if you flash a ruu official rom. Once that's done. S-off and your done.
Guessing you did something wrong hence the issues you faced

My Dhd was the same as yours and didn't have any problems. Did you ask for some help on the irc channel or did you just not read the manual
Was about to try the ace-hack until i read this post. Total noob at this been looking for months to do this. If i run the hack can i just put say leedroid on a new sdcard and install through CWM. I just need to know if it all goes wrong can i get back to stock rom with the PD98IMG...
Never mind the phone i'll be brickin' myself....
Thanks in advance.
for stock devices, the HACK kit is probably the easiest and fastest one-step process to S-OFF, ROOT, install CWM for flashing custom ROM's , downgrading etc
i tried it yesterday and it worked flawless for me, just read the manual and follow it step by step..
Cheers, maybe give it a try later.

I had the exact same problem 2 nights ago!
What I did: Downloaded a stock 1.32 rom, named PD98IMG.zip and put it onto the root of my SDcard, then entered bootloader (holding volume down and the powerbutton) and then you just wait for it to scan the SDcard. Once it finds the PD98IMG it asks you if you want to install. Follow the screen intructions and you'll be fine.
After I got the stock rom up and running (1.32) I downloaded visionary from the android market place, and rootet id through that. There are good guides on how to do this on the web. Just search for "How to root Desire HD", and skip the downgrade step, cause if you installed the 1.32 edition, you just did
Good luck, hope this helps!

[Q] Revolutionary Root will not Un-root-Have tried everything

I have looked all over the forms and other sites for fixes and none are working.
Evo 4G-S-OFF
Android 2.3.3
Kernel 2.6.35.10-ChopSuey
ROM: Fresh EVO 4.3.3
HBoot: 6.16.1002
I have tried putting multiple PC36IMG in root of the SD card and the bootloader doesnt pick it up at all.
I tried flashing the file through clockwork mod recovery and app and for both I get Installation aborted.
I tried the RUU but it said it could not find the phone.
I even tried adb-son patch and a few other son fixes for unrevoked but still I can't get S-On Back.
I can only flash new roms and new kernels.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!
Update
I tried flashing the RUU through fast boot but it did everything else but un-root the phone. Now it does not have a recovery and its back to OG Rom but it is still S-Off.
Help Please !!! I need to turn phone back into sprint.

Have you made sure its not named PC36IMG.zip.zip?

if your just trying to unroot, just flash a rom that has had root taken out. if your trying to achieve s-on, try flashing the ruu via fastboot.

Yes i renamed it and to only PC36IMG because windows put that second .zip on it

how are you trying to flash it?
like what commands or whatever?
Sent from my HD Desirable phone via XDA App
I tried flashing by going into clockwork recovery and install from zip.
I tried letting the Bootloader find it on the root of my sd card
I tried running RUU on my computer
I tried flashing RUU through clockwork mod app and recovery
on youre computer do you mean putting your phone in ruu mode via fastboot and flashing? if not try that -
1. plug in phone
2. in adb type - adb reboot bootloader
3. fastboot flash zip (name of ruu)
if that doesnt work, switch to ruu mode before trying to flash
thats how i do it on my inspire, should work for you.
cuz its not gunna work through cwm

What do you mean by RUU mode? Do you mean go into Hboot Menu or just tur on fastboot on the phone, because i had fastboot on before.

ruu mode is a special umm recovery-ish mode that lets you flash an ruu from your computer.
you have to do it tgrough fastboot. i dont remember the command atm but a simple google search will tell you what it is. and all of this stuff is through your computer, not just simple in phone stuff, you need fastboot usb.

Search for the thread "how to unroot revolutionary root?????????" And follow the directions. Its easy.

Ok It still did not un-root, the recovery is gone the ROM is stock but the Kernel and the S-Off is still there. As I said before the instructions are not working.

[Q] Trying to return to Stock Rom but...

I seem to be having a problem flashing the stock + rooted rom.
I get the error message..
e:cant open sdcard/dhd_wwe_3.12.405.1............zip (bad) installation aborted.
I have also tried a stock unrooted copy which didnt work either. I am pretty sure i use to be able to flash it(many months ago).
I believe i can still flash sum custom roms (just formated the newest leedroid rom) but stock is being a ***** to install.
I want to go back to stock as I feel my gps was more accurate under stock
Any ideas?
Im using a unbranded UK desire HD with AHK Clockwork Recovery v4.0.1.4. i did wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and even wipe Dalvik
Any questions just ask
You don't have to flash stock rom from recovery like custom roms or nandroid backups.
Run stock RUU.exe or flash the rom from bootloader if in PG58IMG format if you want to go back to complete stock rom.
You can download RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_R_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_233505_signed form HERE

Hey mate, maybe u can help me out a little. I need to flash back to stock, vodafone au branded for warrenty purposes. if I used above would I still be rooted and s-off, and can all the Vodafone bloat be flashed afterwards. just weighing if the above link is any easy option then flashing rom, then radio, reverse s off, root, etc etc etc.....etc.?
The link I gave is for stock unbranded WWE (world wide english) RUU. No idea where you can find Vodafone AU, sorry.
Running the RUU.exe will unroot your device but s-off remains. Also it deletes all apps and data.
Conclusion: it will be as out of the box but S-Off.

--I noticed your using advanced ace hack kit. Question- are you renaming the Rom file to "update.zip," and then selecting "install update from zip"???
If so, there s your problem.
Just select "install from zip" instead. Shouldn't matter if the file has been renamed.
Hopefully this is a quick fix for you. Let us know, because if you can get to bootloader and recovery, there is a fix.

haha, you can probably tell im getting a little desperate.
Please answer these questions in order to summarize the situation:
1) are you S-ON or S-OFF?
2) What your bootloader says and what version is is (there is a **locked** on top?)
3) have you tried the hack kit or not?
4) do you have stock recovery or CWM/4EXT?
5) is your phone branded Vodafone or is just your carrier which is Vodafone?
6) what was your original RUU and what RUU did you find. RUU.exe should be run from a computer not flashed by recovery.

Hi, are u asking me? If so here u go.
1- S-OFF. Don't think I'm eng s-off.
2- boot loader reads as follows:
Ace PVT Ship S-off RL
Hboot 0.85.0024
Microphone 0438
Radio 26.10.04.03_m
eMMC-boot
3- advance ace hack kit is how I rooted my device...?
4- clockwork mod recovery touch 5.8
5- Vodafone branded phone originally, with all the crap
6-original ruu unknown? But the rom I can't install is titled:
Ace_Vodafone_AU_1.32.178.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M_BACKUP
Its a zip file which I've tried to install from recovery as a zip(error message 'install aborted')and also restore after extracting to cwm/backup (error message md5 mismatch)
I'm completely lost.
Install 4ext recovery, if I'm not mistaken it has an option to ignore md5 mismatches.
Edit - just checked and it does, its in the recovery settings

Alright, well I installed 4ext, disabled md5 check. All that happened when it restored (finished in only 3secs)was rebooted with a freshly wiped copy of the rom I've been using-cookies & cream ics.
It seems like the file is empty, though I've explored its content and all seems intact. Its about the 5th download of the rom too, so unlikely a bad dl. Someone installed it successfully by deleting nandroid. md5, then using the md5 sum recreate it as md5sum*img > nandroid.md5... Don't know how or what this means
I believe they are talking about this. In the app go to recovery >manage backups. Choose the file then click correct md5 sum

-Alright well I got the md5 sorted, and installed the rom. Now I have a blackscreen... It appears nothing has changed. the green htc letters slowly fade to white lines then to black, thats about it. Still got 4ext so I can restore, but this is a pain in the rectum.
I'm restoring it again and it reads its restoring: boot system data cache. In the process, .android_secure not found...Should be alright?
That should be fine. Not sure why its not working and others got it to work

Wondering if I could insall the WWE Ruu.exe and then temp root and somehow flash all the vodafone australia crap...I'm just swinging in the dark here.
I thought about that. You won't be able to fully be on your stock firmware but it might be close enough for warranty purposes.
So here is my thinking. Flash the 1.32.405 ruu. Next flash your stock radio that came with your carrier via a pd98. Then root with visionary and use jkoljos easy radio tool to flash back your cid and get back son. Finally unroot with visionary and remove any traces of root like super user. I think that's as close as well be able to get if the nandroid doesn't work

Thanks for ur help mate ... haven't had a chance to try re install of this yet. If it isn't one thing its another, I did Eng s off and now my battery is dieing by like, 1-2% every minute, don't think its associated with Eng s off, but the battery coincidentally nearing its end. [Q] S_ON and Unrooted 2.3.3 GB

Hello I have an HTC Desire (Bravo), it was s-off and rooted. I had installed the rom MIUI Pt, but while doing a backup with rom manager had an error and when was recovering the machine crashed, I follow the tutorials and got access to the SD Card.
Through the RUU PB99.img got converted to reinstall the rom.
I installed the 2.3.3 GingerBread because I had read in a forum that was the best (in terms of warranty) but put the phone "S_ON and Unrooted".I don’t noticed that what I had an usb brick. I'm already follow the various tutorials with various exploits to gain temporary root and nothing.
I further made a PB99.img the RUU Froyo 2.2, but gives me an error does not leave installation of rom.
Is there solution for this?

Hey, first thingy can u boot into recovery with an exclamation mark on it? If you can press vol up and power after entering recovery, then hit apply update.zip. Generate an update.zip first (this exact name) of 4ext recovery.img. It has an unbrick function(never tried though)
Request a dev to create the flasheable zip file for you. If you can't boot take to service as in the previous post.

[Q] Screwed up (red triangle)

Looks like tiredness has got the better of me and I screwed up my bootloader (I think).
I purchased a pre-rooted DHD, it was rooted through Advance Ace Hack Kit. I have 4ext installed as the recovery and have Ice cold sandwich flashed. I do have a nandroid backup of the rom.
Unfortunately I was running Advance Ace Hack Kit just to see what the options were as I was looking for installing an eng bootloader, unfortunately I selected option 1 by mistake and the software started running, phone rebooted a few times and now it's just stuck at the splash screen. I was in two minds to stop it mid-process but thought that might make things worse.
I also cannot access my 4ext recover, instead I get the red triangle and the htc recovery.
Damn, I'm annoyed with myself. I am tired and got momentarily distracted. I know one thing, if this can be fixed I won't be doing this again:crying:
Can this be brought back to life?
Ok, I have got myself out of this predicament by installing the stock wwe rom. Thankfully the phone rebooted, started up and the phone is back in business.
Of course I am still s-off, however I assume I am now unrooted.
Is there an easy option to root the device bearing in mind the phone is s-off? I want to root and flash cwm or 4ext.
Thanks.

In the "Ace Think Tank" thread (linked in my signature), post #7, there is a PDF that includes instructions on flashing a custom recovery from an S-OFF phone. Start from the bottom of page 9, the section labeled "S-OFF no custom recovery." After that, just flash a rooted ROM from the recovery.
Or, assuming you have a working ROM, you could look into SuperOneClick. I think it roots a ROM if the phone is S-OFF (however, I have never used it and can't speak to its reliability). Then you can just flash a recovery from an app like ROM Manager or 4ext Updater.
Finally, again assuming you have a working ROM, you could try flashing SuperSU from the zip here. Again, untested, but it has restored root on at least one occasion that I know of to an unrooted ROM.
Please note that I'm just throwing ideas around. If anyone knows that any of these methods doesn't work please say so.
Hello all,
Thanks for the replies.
I have the phone working, I installed the wwe htc sense rom that comes with 2.3.5 and sense 3.0. Pretty much my phone is factory reset, but at least it works now.
I lost root but do have s-off.
Use superoneclick. 2.3.3 it can easy root stock sense 3.0 when you are S-OFF which you are already.
1.First press temp root and wait for it to finish.
2.second root and wait for it to finish.
3.enjoy.
Got it sorted. I flashed a cwm recovery zip from an sdcard in bootloader. With cwm flashed, I could restore a nandroid backup. Back in business again.
If you want to unbrick your phone, you need to download an official RRU, or RUU or whatever it is that it is called. It is an EXE file that you download on your computer and run it. You can get it from HTC website, or google it. It's a stock setup of your phone. So you put the phone in red triangle mode, connect it to PC, and run the RRU file. It starts its magic and the phone will be back to stock with the sense and GB and everything. Use the Ace Hack Kit again to get it rooted and S-OFF if it isnt already and then install RoM as you want to.
