usb mass storage? how?

well, this is rather embarrassing, I can't seem to find a way to use the phone as mass storage like I did with T989.
I just got it today brand new, already rooted via odin > cwm method.
When I plug in usb cord, I can only access it via MTP but it won't let me transfer large 700mb file.

Enter Settings and tap "Storage". There you should have a menu icon (the vertical triple blocks - on my tablet it's in the top/right - YMMV) which gives you a option called "USB computer connection". Tap it, change from "Media Device (MTP)" to "Mass Storage".

Nope, I dont see any settings under settings-> storage
I get options when I hook up my phone to the pc..but it only has MTP and Camera...no mass storage

In this case your SGN2 doesn't seem to support Mass Storage mode. It's there on my SGT10.1 running CM10.

For anyone with a similar problem, the white USB cable that comes with this phone (in some systems like mine) doesn't send data to computers - it only supplies power.
Many people have reported this and I just confirmed it on my system. I connected my NOte 2 to my system with 5 other usb cords and my system found the device. Every time I connected it with the Samsung white usb cable, the computer doesn't see the Note 2.
Either Samsung did something with this usb cable or they really are sending a lot of defective usb cables out.

Thats not true i always use the white usb on my computer..... Its just hit or miss sometimes

I'm not able to mount it as a mass storage device either, my only options are "Media Device" or "Camera", neither of which show up as an actual drive on my windows machine. and i'm not using the white usb cord that came with it, i'm using my own cord that i've used for years, and with many other devices.

Coming to think about it (totally forgot about it)...
Maybe give Easy UMS a try. I use it on my SGS3 for USB Mass-Storage Mode, and according to the thread it also seems to work on the Note 2.
Though, keep in mind:
This app will make the external (not the internal!) microSD card of your Samsung Galaxy S3 (International, US versions, International LTE) available as USB mass storage device.

Easy UMS WORKS!

I'm running Jedi-X V1 (wanted MultiView real bad, which works sweetly) on my T-Mobile GNote2 and Easy UMS worked GREAT.
It's usage is not extremely intuitive: Click the UMS button to make it run in mass storage mode, attach to computer, do your file transfer thing, SAFELY EJECT when done, wait a few seconds, then click "Mount SD" to get the card back for your android to use.
After using the phone I went to re-connect it to the computer, and found that a couple of apps were using the SD card, so I long-pressed home, clicked Task Manager (the pie graph at the bottom) and used the Clear Memory function to kill innactive apps, freeing the card up to be unmounted and UMSed,

How do get vehicle to recognize phone is connected?

How do I get my 2013 Chevrolet Silverado to recognize that my phone is connected? When I change source it just tells me to connect a device after connecting one and the same even if it is connected before changing sources. I have Minco ROM 4.2.1 running Franco kernel 364. I turned off USB debugging in the phone's developer options and disabled the USB fast charge in the kernel settings. I even rebooted after disabling those.
I'm thinking the problem is due to the nexus not having an SD card confuses it but then again should any music being played on the phone be sent through to the truck's radio/speakers as well?

"Insert a disc, USB, or Aux stereo device" is what my truck tells me when I switch to the source that should allow the stereo to recognize my phone. I've tried different cables and after researching all weekend I think the problem is this crappy Media Transfer Protocol since the Nexus doesn't have a standalone SD card. But I still can't find a solution. Does anyone know of an app, MOD, or kernel that can fix my issue?

I understand your pain. However, I'm not sure the GNex can push audio through the USB port. Not sure if other headsets do this, never really attempted to, but the only cheap solution for you right now is to use an auxiliary cable or if you're willing to spend the money, an OEM car dock. I have one and it works fantastically, charges and plays audio through pogo pins.

If your device is a nexus there's nothing you can do because you don't have mass storage mode available. In that case, the nexus only can connect in MTP mode (media transfer protocol), and probably your truck's media player does not recognize that protocol. I have an Alpine and only supports mass storage mode, in case helps you.
You can, howerer, use a male-male 3.5mm jack and connect from the phone to the truck input, like if you were on headphones but directly to your car or truck.

That's what I thought :/ I was hoping there was a way to partition the drive and use a kernel that enables ums mode so I could do this. I'd rather not have two cables connected and have to control through my phone instead of the stereo/steering wheel

If you want UMS on devices that don't have it, you can use DriveDroid from market (there's both free and paid). With it, create a blank file that will be used as "partition". Then you can connect your phone to your computer and put there the songs you want. Then do the same in the car. For example, in my Nexus 7 I've created a 2 GB file which serve for that purpose (takes a while when is big).

Smartwatch 3 does not appear in Andoid Wear

Hello,
i am browsing for a solution for hours now. I got the watch yesterday and can not pair it with my phone. It does not appear as "Smartwatch 3" in the Wear App, or in the "normal" bluetooth list of my phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 with 6.0.1 on it. Other nearby stuff is showing in the list like "Apple TV" or pcs in this house. I have reset the watch, i have reset the phone, i reinstalled the app, i downloaded older versions of Wear. I rebooted both devices multiple times. I used Sonys repairing tool and "repaired" and updated the watch. They just dont "see" each other. Only thing i can now think of is a custom rom for the watch or phone, but if the watch is broken i would lose the warranty to get a new one.
I would be very thankful for a magic trick.

I am sorry if I am stating the obvious, but the first time your watch doesn't appear as Sony Smartwatch 3 or something similar on your phone.
Don't try to pair your SW3 via Bluetooth, it wil only work via Android Wear and the watch has to take the initiative by sending out a code, see below. Obviously Bluetooth on your phone has to be turned on.
If you have a new SW3 or done a factory reset, the watch will try to pair itself to your phone with a code, mine was something like ZZ4wrh56, just select that on your phone within Android Wear when asked and after the pairing is complete (takes a while, because the phone will install and sync apps on your watch), only then your watch is called by it's proper name (you will stil not see it in linked devices btw in Bluetooth, only in Android Wear).

Hey, thx for the answer. The problem is that there is no "answer" from the watch. Wear only searches for watches, but cannot find any. Just an AppleTV of my neighbor. It is like there is no bluetooth signal being sent from the watch at all. It just sits there saying that the code should appear in Wear now...

Have you tried to pair it with another phone, if that works it's your s5 that's the problem, otherwise it's the watch and you should go back to the store.

Have you the right pairing screen on your watch during the process ?

Yep exactly the same screen. The third screen says "touch the code in the app". No code to touch, sadfully.
I rooted my phone yesterday---> nope :/. I am starting to think the watch is broken. I will try a different phone

Yes you must have a window on Phone AND on watch with the pairing code to validate. You must accept on Phone AND on watch.

Yes i know. I am not allowed to post pictures here, but there is only an "AppleTV" showing in Wear, not the watch with its code.

so that's the 1st connection between SW3 and you r phone?
I've had some issues, I had to reset my watch, because phone couldn't connect.
You can download pc companion sony app and update watch to the latest version.
Make sure your phone is vissible - settings of bluetooth, android wear settings, move away from other radio devices.

Tried everything hard reset with PC companion and reset from the watch and nothing :/

Also forget the BT device (SW3) in Android BT settings.

Hey,
my watch was broken. Got a new one from the seller. Now everything is ok. Save some time and just send it back...

I had the same problem (both smartphone and SW3 with Android 6.0.1) and I solved it with a rollback of Android Wear app (not sure if it's main cause).
Install any version below the 2.x (for example, 1.5.x), and smartphones will see it (also after a Watch reset).
Seems a bug in Android Wear 2.x for initial sync (maybe the old version of Google Play Services on SW3 (8.7.0) against 10.x? Don't know, I'm a newbie with Google Play Services troubleshooting )

I just received it today went through the initial setup and restarted it, I am now getting the Connecting to Google...message for 1 hour. I have tired using LAN and Wireless resetting several times and no success.
Now the bad news is, no way to get into fastboot on this device using the hold the power button down, since the new version doesn't have a micro-usb port nor a power button.

to get into fastboot you have to use the usb port farthest away from hdmi port. with usb 3 male to male cable.

I have a USB-A to USB-C Cable. I tried it in both ports, but still can't figure out how to get into fastboot without a power button. When I connect to PC, I am not prompted for drivers.

as i stated above, l haven't been able to get past the Connecting to Google message, which is the reason i am trying to reset the unit via bootmenu/fastboot.
I purchased two units and the other one is working fine, but the remote is no longer fast scrolling after it did a firmware update(another words when i try to scroll through my apps list on the main screen I have to keep pressing the right part of the remote repeatedly instead of holding it down. it also highlights the current position in green, it didn't do this before the update.

I get it today.

I did use my Nexus 6P to set up the Nvidia Shield. It completed, told me I had a firmware update at which point I clicked the install and restart button. Update installed and restarted again, at which point I got the Connecting to Google.. message.
I just managed to fix it! I decided to change the language (since that was one of the few things I could do.) It gave me a weird message, and proceeded with the startup. I have to figure out how to change the language back to English, but once I did it is working normal.

Can't connect my black shark 3 to laptop

My black shark 3 only charges when connected to laptop. There is no pop up to connect it to laptop please help

I am from Brazil and I have the same problem unfortunately and without a solution so far and I believe it is a physical defect ....
Before I suspected that the last security update of the month 12/2020 could have caused this but seeing this topic there are people with this problem since 09/2020, that is before the android security update ...
I follow the topic to see if someone gives a light because mine is the same way I connect on the PC with his original usb cable and the device just keeps charging and does not open the menu to select the data transfer mode and even if I go to "Developer options" and enter usb settings and leave selected data transfer, nothing happens unfortunately it just keeps charging and doesn’t connect with the computer.
I did tests with other usb cables and nothing and also tried to connect to a Macbook Air and the same thing the device only charges and nothing else.
Detail the OTG function of it works normally because I connected an OTG adapter with a pen drive and recognized it normally in the cell phone and became the only way to transfer his data to a pc using the otg adapter and a pen drive for this solution.

try closing google chrome on your laptop , then connecting your phone.

Boy, I thank you for the tip, but I've done it here and nothing ...
In fact I've tried I believe that everything ...
I have already restored the device and nothing to recognize on the PC.
I entered recovery connected to the pc and nothing to recognize.
I plugged in 2 different pcs and a notebook nothing.
I plugged in a 2011 Macbook air and nothing to recognize.
I plugged in normal USB 2.0 and 3.0 also nothing to recognize.
I called the multimedia in my car that mirrors the image of the cell phone and also nothing to recognize the cell phone.
Anyway it only charges when connected to any USB and the OTG function normally works because I connect a samsung adapter that I have and a pen drive and it recognizes normally ....
In other words, unfortunately a device of 400 USD that presents an idiotic defect like that of not connecting to the pc unfortunately ....
Even so I thank you for the tip and I'll keep an eye out to see if anyone else gives a tip.

Hello
Enable dev mode by click 5 times in setting-about your phone, and search usb configuration in the sear bar, find default usb configuration and choose file transfile.
I tried it and it didn't work, so I tried everything I could think of and connected the phone to an old windows computer (I was using apple computers) and it worked, it seems that Mac os doesn't detect the phone while windows ones do.
So if you guys are trying with Mac os, maybe you had the same problem.
