Need Help, Friend Updated with Froyo OTA and Now No 3G Data?!?!?! - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A good friend of mine waited to receive the OTA update of Froyo for his Incredible and when he got it he installed it. The bad part that I need help with is that when his phone rebooted it wouldn't allow the 3G data network to work. That section in settings is greyed out saying "Turning on..." and will not connect. The phone portion runs just fine. I have since returned the phone back to 2.1 and the same problem persists. If someone could help us out that would be awesome!!!

This is a known issue with the 2.15 radio. Try turning airplane mode on and then back off. I believe there is a theory that setting wifi to never sleep will prevent this issue. I can't seem to find the post where I read that though.

Thanks, but I reverted back to 2.1 with the original radio with no luck. I tried everything you mentioned before I reverted and after. No luck.

Have you tried *228 and option 2 ("upgrading your roaming capabilities")? My data network wouldn't turn on last night after a data wipe and this fixed it (though, it may have just been the automatic reset that did the trick).

Tried it and no luck. Thanks anyways though.

I showed how i fixed it when my phone wouldn't activate at all. I don't know if it is a similar problem but it sounds like it. None of the nam or sid areas apply just the last bit about m.ip profiles and maybe an area under security that i didn't have to change. When i fixed it.

[Q] 4G turning on and off, slowing down phone

So I wanted to try out different kernels yesterday. I'm rooted using the Stock ROM.
My phone was already running netanarchy's 4.1.9.1 with no problems, but I wanted to try out King's kernel BFS #8 as well as #6. I did a cache and dalvik wipe prior to each flash. In the end, I deemed that I personally like netanarchy's kernels more, so I switched back to 4.1.9.1.
However, now my 4G keeps turning on and off. This is causing my phone to significantly lag in intervals correlating with the on and off of the 4G toggle. Is it possible that flashing different kernels somehow borked my wimax radio?
Any help is much appreciated.
Is it anything like I described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8052344
I'm having this issue and I never even rooted my phone. Note my latest reply that I did a hard reset on one of the evo's and now the 4g radio hangs on "turning on..." when I try to turn it on. Still seeing that now. Considering doing the unrevoked 3.2 to root it and try to fix it since sprint is clueless on the issue.
Yea, it is similar to your issue. I found your thread after I posted mine. I tried updating to the latest Wimax update found on XDA and that helped somewhat.
My 4G stays on, scans, and says connecting to Sprint network. However, it never successfully connects. I now believe I have the dreaded MAC address problem and am now trying to fix it.
I can't even see my 4G MAC address because I can't get the 4G radio to turn on. How else can I check whether my keys are screwed up (without being rooted)?
try dialing ##3282# and select view mode. Go to WiMax and look under NIA. That should have the MAC address.
If it does not match what is listed on your box, then your MAC addresses do not match.

You gotta be rooted to do that. As for your keys getting hammered, the key issue arises on rooted phones after a bad flash, or corrupted radio file. More than likely your keys are fine. Let me ask you this, have you previously have 4G working, and it just stopped working? Or you now just tried to use it, and it's not working?

Yes, it used to work. I picked up signal around the boston area a month or two ago (before boston officially had 4g). I can't remember whether I used 4g successfully after the 2.2 upgrade. I was part of the group that did the .3 leaked 2.2 update and then took the .3 to .6 update OTA. I have never rooted this phone.

There is no WiMax option when I do this. I think the WiMax radio needs to be switched on to see this. But I can't get the radio to turn on.
I've been using alogcat to try to debug the issue. I see this error come up about 90 seconds after trying to enable 4G (this is the same time the "turning on..." changes to "Unable to start 4g"):
E/WimaxStateTracker( 104): Failed to load Wimax driver -=>wl.release
I haven't been able to find any information about what this might mean.
same problem here; ever since running unrevoked 3 the other day, my evo 4g keeps turning 4G on and off by itself, and, wont let me stop it from doing that..
its killing my battery with its constant searching, and I cant find any sort of "tweak" that will allow me to just shut it off or leave it on; the widgets dont do it, so I cant figure out how to stop it..
was working fine before this..
On stock 2.2 froyo, stock kernel...
any ideas?
thanks!

Ok you may have hammered your 4G then. I've heard of a couple of people who took the leaked update, and fouled up their 4G. I would suggest you backup your stuff then run the latest RUU to see if that clears things up with the wimax driver not loading. If not take the phone to Sprint.

i read the thread you started about this issue. you mentioned you were having trouble breaking the on/off loop but then mentioned your wife somehow was able to do it. while in the on/off loop, did you find that the the radio was actually spending any time "scanning" after it turned on? on one of my evos, the phone would switch from on to off and back to on so quickly, the button was always grayed out in the wireless menu so i could never interrupt it. on my other evo, it would spend a little time scanning ( a second or 2), which was enough time to press the button so the 4g would turn off for good and break the on/off loop. a hard reset fixed the phone with the unbreakable loop (4g now works). a hard reset caused the other phone to change so that 4g just hangs at "turning on..." when i try to toggle it on.

By running the latest RUU, do you mean perform the latest OTA sprint update (the .6) by putting in on my SD card and doing the volume down/power button trick? Is this safe if I already have the update applied? I was considering doing this but wasn't sure if it would be safe to do.

[Q] [SOLVED] WIFI dropping and reconnecting...

Before the flames comsume me, the forum search is showing unavailable for me and I don't have the time to search 53 pages in the troubleshoot forum, and google only had solutions for 4.1.2 as far as I found.
its a 4.1.1 LJC Sprint Note 2, Hardware ver L900.09, stock other than rooted with the toolkit 3.0.
WIFI is dropping and reconnecting every minute or so. Don't think its router related since my Evo LTE and laptops are fine.
I've disabled power save mode in the *#0011# menu (no effect even before a reboot which sets it back to on.)
I've disabled sprint connection optimizer
WIFI timer is off, Keep WIFI on during sleep is always, check for internet service is unchecked.
Issue persists after reboot and factory data reset.
I am rooted and this looks like its hardware or firmware related. I haven't seen any radio updates yet.
Has anyone had luck on a custom rom? AOSP isn't an option unfortunately so no CM10 goodness.
Is this a know bug which Samsung is aware of, or is it a common hardware issue.
Am I Missing Something??? Thanks!
UPDATE: I've copied the WIFI folder files from another 4.1.1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078000 and it seemed to drop less often for a few minutes but is back to its old tricks.
UPDATE2: Attatched logcat.
UPDATE3: Problem solved. Had to do a full ##786# master reset. Will update if I can get it to reoccur.
UPDATE4: Problem came back. then switched to MacksRomv4 and it seems better but still dropped. Went into router config (ASUS RT-N16 w/DD-WRT) and changed channel from auto to 1. Totally seems fixed now! Will leave this post for future searchers

WiFi Disconnecting Issue

Perhaps the most annoying thing is that I had stock rooted....then I switched to Liquid Smooth v2.2 (I'm just saying because the problem has spanned across both ROMs....thus it can't be a ROM issue)
But pretty much, when the WiFi is connected, sometimes it'll cut out...and go to 3G.....then maybe it'll come back again, and maybe it doesnt.
Only time the problem gets manually fixed is if I go to the pulldown menu and click on WiFi (the WiFi button is already lit, but I unclick it, then click it again) and then it'll come back.
But if I go to settings --> WiFi, it will force close. Only way to fix it is from the pulldown menu.
My WiFi policy is set to "never sleep" which is fine because it goes into sleep mode when I use DS Battery Saver.
Can someone help me, so that it doesn't automatically disconnect? Thanks!!
I'd go back to full stock
[ROM/RESTORE][!MB1 OTA!](3-05)Quick Return to UNROOTED STOCK WITH FLASH COUNT RESET
and see how things go, I've heard that using root toolkit can cause weird wifi problems if that was used to achieve root.
I'd stay on stock for a few days. If wifi stays wonky then bring it in to sprint. if not then try to root again. (if you used the toolkit then use the method outlined by qbking777 - you can find his channel on youtube)
Good luck

Well this problem doesn't occur in other home's WiFi, only mine.
And it's been recent, probably like 2 months.

Ah, well that would have been good to mention before
things i would check:
It may be due to your security type on your router.
I have mine set to WPA2/PSK; you might play with that.
any new apps installed on your phone
maybe a firmware update to the router if you've updated the modem on your phone
if not, maybe update the modem on your phone
if all else fails. I'd still go all the way back to stock and check it out. because that gives you a know starting point with not augmentation.
Ok so I had this same problem a while back and after a little Google-fu I found a solution.
I found that people were able to fix it by changing the SSID of their wireless access point. I changed the SSID that my router was broadcasting so it would have ONLY alphabetical characters (went from MOTOROLA-8472J to MOTOROLA) and the problem magically fixed itself.
Dont know why this happened, but it seems like its a problem across Android, as opposed to a single device
Hope this helps
Mine is like JMF23 but I'll change it to something else.
Problem isn't just my router. I just went to a friend's and it's the same thing. I am extremely frustrated and I have no idea what to do.
The WiFi keeps connecting...then disconnects. When I go to the settings, the IU freezes. I can only enable WiFi again from the pulldown menu.
Did you try going back to full stock as jdelano mentioned above?

[Q] Major WiFi issue out of nowhere?

Hey all. I need some advice. This morning my G3 (D850) dropped WiFi connection for no reason. It says the signal is good but the network info says saved, secured. It will attempt to connect over and over again and if it does connect the signal is weak as can be and it drops the connection within 2 seconds. My coworker has a G3 also and is connected to the same work network I am. His connection says excellent where as mine said good. His device connects just fine with full bars. I'm baffled. I've already tried manually selecting 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz instead of auto select and that didn't help at all. I've tried manually turning off WiFi and turning it back on. I've tried turning airplane mode on and then off to refresh the connection and that didn't help. I've done a battery pull as someone in one of the android authority forums suggested that (apparently I am not the only one having this issue.), didn't work. I've unchecked WiFi optimization - no dice. There was another post on a different forum here on XDA that said turning off WiFi and then deleting the WiFi config folder located in data/etc/wifi and then rebooting fixed the issue for them so I tried that. After reboot when I tried to turn on WiFi my G3 rebooted itself. Does it everytime. SO, I had to restore to a nandroid backup (btw I'm on rooted stock 10f) to get the phone to stop hating my WiFi toggle attempts. Last ditch effort I did a factory reset hoping for an easy fix... Nope. I don't know what else to try. It was fine yesterday all day. This morning it was perfectly fine and then randomly started having this issue. I haven't altered any system files whatsoever. I really don't want to send my device to LG for warranty replacement so I'm hoping someone can help me out that may have had this issue and resolved it. The only difference between my device and my coworkers device is he is still on 10d and I am on 10f. That could be the issue I guess but that doesn't really explain why my device has been perfectly fine until this morning and I've been on rooted 10f for weeks. I am planning on flashing back to straight bone factory stock 10d when I get home here in a few hours from work but Idk if that will help or not. Judging from the amount of google search results of "LG G3 WiFi connection problems" this seems to be an issue for several people. I won't know if it's on the software side or hardware side until I get home but in the meantime has anyone had these issues at all? People have had success in changing to Static IP but I would have to do that for every connection I attempt to connect to and that's a pain in the a$$. Also, that does nothing to identify the root cause of the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)

Thanks for the reply. So it turned out my phone just randomly decided it doesn't like my work network anymore. Idk why lol. I got home and it hooked right into WiFi. Gf's WiFi and open networks as well. I call shenanigans. I went ahead and flashed back to 10d anyway though.

I am having the same issue! But it is happening in other networks too...sometimes I get the phone to connect but it only works for a while and when I check the networks it only says Saved, even if I try to connect again
Having the same issue, whether at work or home, my wifi has become near useless. I've even gone as far as trying a different ROM. Didn't work.
Same thing here
I also have tried factory reset, installed a new ROM, changed settings in my router... but the problem remains I don't know what to do anymore, I use wifi a lot!! I searched through other topics but no one seem to know how to solve it. Unfortunately my warranty already expired, I took my phone to some technicians but honestly it didn't help at all...they all said it was a software bug and I should wait for an update but if it was just that a new ROM would fix it,right?
I am not very familiar with phone hardware but I assume that if it was a hardware problem I wouldn't be able to turn it on or connect to any network, right?? (any experts here???)
Any solution is welcomed.
anyone please?? :crying:
P.S : I tried a new baseband, new kernel and new ROMs. So far, nothing changed.
I can connect sometimes but get kicked out within minutes. At other times I only get the saved, secured message.
This is happening in every network

switching from WiFi to data issue

Is anyone else having issues when they get out of range of WiFi that data doesn't come on? I'm on metro PCS. Apns are fine. Signal excellent for both WiFi and data . My op6 never has this issue (same apns and locations). A reboot brings it back and it happens randomly. Switching data off and on again didn't work. Only a reboot solves. I'm hoping it's a bug and not a hardware issue.
I have the same exact issue
Yeah I have seen this issue. Since a reboot seems to fix it I suspect it's a software issue.
I went into the WI-FI preferences and turned on "Auto switch to mobile data". Seems to have fixed it for me.

Let me talk to the wife about trying that. Thanks for the advice! Technically, it's her phone and she only tells me about things that go wrong. Many times, she's the one doing something wrong, but this time I noticed it while using it myself.
Hey!
Same here, but I figured out, that it's also working fine, when u just turn on wifi back again for some minutes and try to change to data mode e.g. 5 minutes later.
It's for sure not a solution, but makes it even more strange to me. Maybe like a network "cache" issue or something like that.
