Is anyone else having issues when they get out of range of WiFi that data doesn't come on? I'm on metro PCS. Apns are fine. Signal excellent for both WiFi and data . My op6 never has this issue (same apns and locations). A reboot brings it back and it happens randomly. Switching data off and on again didn't work. Only a reboot solves. I'm hoping it's a bug and not a hardware issue.
I have the same exact issue
Yeah I have seen this issue. Since a reboot seems to fix it I suspect it's a software issue.
I went into the WI-FI preferences and turned on "Auto switch to mobile data". Seems to have fixed it for me.

Let me talk to the wife about trying that. Thanks for the advice! Technically, it's her phone and she only tells me about things that go wrong. Many times, she's the one doing something wrong, but this time I noticed it while using it myself.
Hey!
Same here, but I figured out, that it's also working fine, when u just turn on wifi back again for some minutes and try to change to data mode e.g. 5 minutes later.
It's for sure not a solution, but makes it even more strange to me. Maybe like a network "cache" issue or something like that.

im trying for a week now to get around an issue that is costing me my nerves and renders my phone useless, especially on travel without roaming and data-plan. after screenoff my nexus kills the wifi connection, after some time though, 30 minutes, 1 hour, it seems to change. my company uses skype as the primary means to communitate and i'm just cut off, won't receive important mails, messages, whatever.
when i switch my phone back on wifi starts up again, if im quick enough the settings reveal "avoided poor internet connection" in the hotspots status. so basically it looses the signal for a moment and is not able to connect back on its own. i read 4.0.1 had a setting to circumvent that but since 4.0.2 it's gone. of course keep-alive-during-sleep is checked to "always" in the settings and i tried just about anything, changing basebands, factory resets, cache wipe, etc. nothing helped. the weirdest thing i that the battery stats to not reflect it, the blue wifi line is uninterrupted all the way.
i searched and found dozens of people complaining about this but no solution anywhere. they switched phones and had the same problems still. from little fragments i collected it seems that samsung devices had this issue before, cm7 supposedly fixed a hardware driver that had issues with certain wifi devices on certain frequencies.
im on AOKP b27 now (powersaver on or off with setting to untouched or "leave on" made no difference), leankernel, xxkl1 baseband. today i went back to stock 4.0.2 to see if that does something. still, has anyone here similar problems and maybe even solutions? what about the cyanogens "nexus one sleep fix" i read about, anyone can provide links or informations?
Did you try settings - wifi - menu - advanced - keep wifi on during sleep - always
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Try changing that setting. I know 2.x defaulted to turn wifi off during sleep but I thought they changed that in ICS. Either way that sounds like the problem.
its not that setting, it's the first thing i checked. it's set to "always" and it should never kill wifi in theory. from what i have read by now it seems more of a wider problem, a software or hardware related issue affecting all nexus devices. most people don't know about it since it only fails for certain routers having certain settings (which other phones digest without problems though). i also never knew it until i had to stay one month in a place with a wifi-hotspot my phone doesn't like. my gf's s2 has no problems at all, neither have our laptops.
here on xda people have switched their devices because of that problem, got new ones and the problem persisted. i have installed roms, kernels, stock-images, basebands, nothing helped and i am sure the problem won't go away if i exchange the device. i knew i'd probably not gain much by asking again, threads like this can be found here, on rootzwiki, google, etc., but i was hoping to gather a little more knowledge. to read about cm7's patch for a similar issue on the nexus one gave me hope that something must be out there ...
btw, stock ICS seems to have the best reception by now, it stays connected for hours. but once it looses it, it won't re-connect aswell. my experiences are worse with AOKP. and it sucks because i love that rom so much. i guess when i'm home again it wont bother me since my own wifi is okay - but man, here, in another country it really hits me.
i had the same problem, seems like the connection would drop when the wifi signal is weak regardless of what settings you choose. i saw this problem on 4.01 and 4.02 stock, and apex rom. i had to switch to a router that could broadcast a stronger signal. i would get about 80-90 dbm with the old router and the new gone give 60-70 dbm. it seemed to have fixed the problem, i havent seen my gnex drop the wifi since i got the new router a few weeks ago.
Ive heard some people have a bug with wifi sleep policy setting not working. But mine seems to actually work. Set to "never" is the best choice and after hours of screen off my wifi is still connected.
Maybe try that setting a few times to kill the bug.
“never"should actually kill wifi immediately after screen off I think. If it doesn't that would be just another bug. I read somewhere that for some people setting it to never resolved the issue but i tried pretty much every setting by now, nothing worked out though. I became so desperate I installed wifi monitor apps that reset wifi after they figure it got dropped, but not even these patches could revive it in some occasions. The only thing that works for sure is switching on the screen every now and then.
It's a wifi sleep policy. So never = never sleep.
Weird, mine says "keep wifi alive during sleep": always, when plugged in, never. our I miss something and there's another setting I haven't tried yet.
this may fix ur problem... for rooted phone

How do you get that? It says "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep", which implies "never" would always keep the Wi-Fi off during sleep.
For the AT&T G3
Is anyone having an issue where their G3's mobile data will randomly stop functioning?
I am still able to make calls, but no applications requiring data will sync or update. There is even still the "4G LTE" icon in the notification bar. The only way to solve this problem is to reboot the phone...then everything functions normally again.
This happens to me at least once or twice daily.
I really hope I am not the only crazy one having this issue...
has happened to me and I posted in another thread...
Oh I did a search and didn't find any other information on it. Did you have any luck in the other thread?
not really:

I've had this happen twice on my G3. It used to happen occasionally on my iPhone 5.
On the g3 I toggled the "data enabled" quick setting to off for a second and then back on. Fixed the issue for me.
Not saying there isn't an issue here. This is just a quick fix.
happened a 3rd time today. toggling data didn't do anything. required 2 reboots to fix. i was walking in nyc.

Yup, this is identical to my issue. Sometimes it fixes itself after a reboot, other times it requires more. It's definitely not AT&T's service...my S3 in the same coverage area did not have this issue.

I picked mine up this morning and I haven't experienced that particular problem. Factory Reset?
I think I even got VOLTE in my area.

i've been manhandling the phone all day. no dropped data or calls at all besides the usual dead zones. I'm in Northern NJ so service is pretty solid up here.
same
I'm in singapore - had same issue. No 3G/4G data. Calls ok, wifi ok. A reboot fixes the issue.
Yes same happens here in india
Not On G3, But Previous Phones
I had this happen occasionally on a Droid RAZR., Always assumed it was something between the phone and the network. It only happened every couple months and a reboot always fixed the issue. Haven't had it happen on the G3. Live near Washington DC. Pretty good coverage.
This is seen on the T-Mobile D851 variant as well.
One way that fixes the data issue is to enable Airplane Mode and then disable it (immediate enable and then disable does it, no wait time for a reset). Fixes the loss of the data connection with no reboot required.
You can try that and see if works as well.
Fast Dormancy?
I wonder whether disabling fast dormancy would resolve the issue? If your mobile data provider does not implement fast dormancy then it needs to be disabled on the phone.
I get the fast dormancy option via the hidden menu (3845#*855# on my D855, replace with your model number), then Settings, then Fast Dormancy. Needs a reboot to apply.
You will need to Google if your mobile provider supports fast dormancy.
Worth a try.
Hey all. I need some advice. This morning my G3 (D850) dropped WiFi connection for no reason. It says the signal is good but the network info says saved, secured. It will attempt to connect over and over again and if it does connect the signal is weak as can be and it drops the connection within 2 seconds. My coworker has a G3 also and is connected to the same work network I am. His connection says excellent where as mine said good. His device connects just fine with full bars. I'm baffled. I've already tried manually selecting 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz instead of auto select and that didn't help at all. I've tried manually turning off WiFi and turning it back on. I've tried turning airplane mode on and then off to refresh the connection and that didn't help. I've done a battery pull as someone in one of the android authority forums suggested that (apparently I am not the only one having this issue.), didn't work. I've unchecked WiFi optimization - no dice. There was another post on a different forum here on XDA that said turning off WiFi and then deleting the WiFi config folder located in data/etc/wifi and then rebooting fixed the issue for them so I tried that. After reboot when I tried to turn on WiFi my G3 rebooted itself. Does it everytime. SO, I had to restore to a nandroid backup (btw I'm on rooted stock 10f) to get the phone to stop hating my WiFi toggle attempts. Last ditch effort I did a factory reset hoping for an easy fix... Nope. I don't know what else to try. It was fine yesterday all day. This morning it was perfectly fine and then randomly started having this issue. I haven't altered any system files whatsoever. I really don't want to send my device to LG for warranty replacement so I'm hoping someone can help me out that may have had this issue and resolved it. The only difference between my device and my coworkers device is he is still on 10d and I am on 10f. That could be the issue I guess but that doesn't really explain why my device has been perfectly fine until this morning and I've been on rooted 10f for weeks. I am planning on flashing back to straight bone factory stock 10d when I get home here in a few hours from work but Idk if that will help or not. Judging from the amount of google search results of "LG G3 WiFi connection problems" this seems to be an issue for several people. I won't know if it's on the software side or hardware side until I get home but in the meantime has anyone had these issues at all? People have had success in changing to Static IP but I would have to do that for every connection I attempt to connect to and that's a pain in the a$$. Also, that does nothing to identify the root cause of the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)

Thanks for the reply. So it turned out my phone just randomly decided it doesn't like my work network anymore. Idk why lol. I got home and it hooked right into WiFi. Gf's WiFi and open networks as well. I call shenanigans. I went ahead and flashed back to 10d anyway though.

I am having the same issue! But it is happening in other networks too...sometimes I get the phone to connect but it only works for a while and when I check the networks it only says Saved, even if I try to connect again
Having the same issue, whether at work or home, my wifi has become near useless. I've even gone as far as trying a different ROM. Didn't work.
Same thing here
I also have tried factory reset, installed a new ROM, changed settings in my router... but the problem remains I don't know what to do anymore, I use wifi a lot!! I searched through other topics but no one seem to know how to solve it. Unfortunately my warranty already expired, I took my phone to some technicians but honestly it didn't help at all...they all said it was a software bug and I should wait for an update but if it was just that a new ROM would fix it,right?
I am not very familiar with phone hardware but I assume that if it was a hardware problem I wouldn't be able to turn it on or connect to any network, right?? (any experts here???)
Any solution is welcomed.
anyone please?? :crying:
P.S : I tried a new baseband, new kernel and new ROMs. So far, nothing changed.
I can connect sometimes but get kicked out within minutes. At other times I only get the saved, secured message.
This is happening in every network
Hopefully I word this right so i can clearly describe my issue. About a week ago I had a glitch with a custom ROM (I am rooted and S-OFF). Before the glitch I had zero issues, data worked created, WIFI worked great, handoff between the two seemed flawless. This is where i am at now.
After taking an absurdly long time to actually be able to wipe and reload a ROM, the issue started. Run just WIFI, no problem, run just Mobile Data no problem, but once I connect to a WIFI ( have tried several WIFI connections and hotspots) this occurs. Approximately everry 5-10 minutes you can see the data connection momentarily drop then reconnect, giving me 3 notification sounds. Annoying to say the least. Doesn't affect the performance of the device but you can see how annoying that would be. I'm gone through all of the settings I can think of in Dev and in settings and can't figure out why it keeps doing this. I was originally told to try a radio but data is perfect if no WIFI present on the device so I would rather not flash and wipe if I can help it.. I know the simple fix would be to disable mobile data at home but that doesn't cut it I would like it to be on as it normally would be. AS a note I have tried full wipes and several ROMS they all present the same issue.
If anyone understands and can help, and you need a logcat I will gladly provide one.
Celtyc
Thanks for taking the time to read!
Hello all!
Got a weird problem, that at first wasn't much of an issue. But now keeps getting worse and worse.
I'm on ATT btw
I've noticed that when I'm on my home wifi, I will randomly have the following issues:
I can't send or receive phone calls
I can't send or receive text messages
Anything network related just doesn't work
It's very random, but happens frequently, and if I turn on airplane mode then turn it back off, the issue is resolved.
I've tried:
resetting network settings on phone
resetting my home network
soft restart and hard restarting phone
I've tried connecting a router to the stock ATT router and using that as my connection
Everything I can think of, short of reformatting the phone completely which I will probably try later this week
I'm on the latest firmware
When the issue happens, I can turn off wifi and it will show 2-3 bars of network but no lte/5g/5g+ or anything. And sometimes it shows the circle with a line through it.
Thanks!

Nope, using a normal sim card from ATT.
Lucky a simple restart fixed it, I'm at wits end how to fix this issue....making work very difficult lol
Going to run phone without wifi today and see if the issue comes up off wifi.
Okay, so tested today without using wifi. And while not as frequent, it still did lose connection just now. And I had to toggle wifi off/on for it to regain connection....
Guess my last step is to reformat the phone
Just got the fold4 on T-Mobile and had the same issue over the weekend.
Randomly stops getting service, have bars but no data, sim says unknown. Disable then reenable sim and it works until next time.
Cleared cache, cleared network settings, remove and reinserted sim.
Today is my first day without losing network.

Interesting, going to try some stuff tomorrow to see what I can figure out.
I was away from my house and had no issues, so starting to think maybe it's my location....but not sure.
Interesting, I've been getting this occasionally on my fold 4 with tmobile. I'll have apps that wont update data with a 'you're not connected to the internet' error. I recently added duck duck go browser and enabled the app tracking blocker. I've been wondering if the duck go vpn is the cause. Do you use any sort of vpn?

Yeah I use ProtonVPN, used to use alwayson but ended up turning it off as it was interfering with my Tesla Key function. But whether it's on or off, I still get the issue.
I haven't reformatted my phone just yet, but the issue has reduced a bit the last few days. I'm not sold on it being my phone as this literally only happens while at home.....really bizarre honestly.
Also got an issue now with android 13 that it won't work with my Tesla half the time. It just doesn't recognize my phone as my key .-. really tilting xD

Thanks for the info. It's so intermittent it's very hard to pin down. I still haven't gotten the update to 13 so hopefully that helps you narrow your search some.

I've noticed it less with Android 13, but android 13 broke my Tesla Key functionality....so not sure that was worth the trade off xD
Yeah, I haven't been able to pin point any specific cause which is super annoying....
Well it lasted a day or 2 then happened a few times again.
As this was a new device for me, I noticed it wasn't "activated" on T-Mobiles site. I went through the activation process and that seems to have fixed it for me now (wifi calling too).
Likely unrelated to what you're experiencing but thought I'd mention it.
