I'm attempting to install cm6 but everytime an error comes up that says assert failed.. then something about bootloader
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I had the same problem and changed the script inside the zip to remove that check. You might be able to disable asserts in Clockworkmod as another route.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Do you think you could tell me exactly what to change?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I believe this has been answered many times already. Without seeing the actual error, you most likely need to get the ENG bootloader. Check out the 2nd post right here

You can install ENG if you want but you don't have to.
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmo...ty Version Model Owner Summary Stars Modified
Check out the first post in there, open the file that is referenced in the zip and remove the lines that check for the bootloader version.
When you run it again make sure you disable the signature verification in ClockworkMod and it should load fine.

Splash screen issues?

How did you root the device?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I used unrevoked but this is the first problem I've had with anything.
With the unrEVOked method it is best and easiest to download a pc36img.zip from the unrEVOked website. Then replace the splash1 file with the one you want to use. Place on root of sdcard then boot into recovery. It will scan sdcard then ask if you want to update the Pc36img.zip just volume up for yes then new splash screen will be flashed.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think I may have found the problem. Some how I turned s-on. Installing unrevoked forever. That should work.
when I boot into bootloader and it scans the p36img it doesn't give me an option to update. It goes straight to options list.
Be sure that you have the file named correctly. It should be pc36img.zip a lot of times there is an extra .zip at the end. And also be sure you have the correct contents inside the folder. It should be named exactly as the one you are replacing. Leave all the other files inside the .zip as is. Just replace the splash1 file.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
still does not work. phone does not give me any opption to update .zip after scanning card. Never has. Even reinstalled the original pc36img.zip on zip. It scans but goes straight to the options list for fastboot, recovery, etc. My wifes evo does it to. They both have done it even when completely stock, before root.
And you are putting the .zip on the root of the sdcard right.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes and I've done everything. Renamed the .rgb565 img and put it in the .zip folder. The problem I think is the phone. I don't know why but none of the four evos I've worked on read the pc36img.zip. Why would this be. I've read some rooting tutorials that talked about rooting through the pc36img.zip file, but my phones have read and let me update. I don't get it!
Very weird. Don't know what else to suggest. I am at a loss.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
We gave it a shot. I just don't know why it won't give me the option to update. Usually, with some assistance I can find out what I'm doing wrong and fix it. Thanks for puttin some time in to help.

HELP!!! Update

okay so I have been rooted for some time now and decided i wanted to unroot (for reasons im still trying to figure out) so now i am on 2.1 update 1 and cannot update to froyo. when i go to settings>about phone>system update it says my phone is up to date and when download the official 2.2 update and rename it to update.zip and try to install it it says a bunch of stuff then e: error in sdcard update.zip (status 7) update aborted. my radio (baseband) version 1.00.03.04.06 . i have done the PB1IMG thing then tried to update and i get the same thing! I am pissed!
any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt
I haven't unrooted in a long time, but maybe it's related to the fact that you're still on the old radio? You might need to be on the official froyo radio which is 2.15.00.07.28
Thank you how do I get the new radio?

Be sure to take extra care when flashing radios. Don't pull the battery while it's updating and even if it looks like it's not doing anything, LEAVE THE PHONE ALONE. Read up in that topic for more information on how to flash radios.
I appreciate your help, I will study up and perform the update tonight. When I post back tonight with the results hopefully I will be updating to froyo

If you are going to go through the trouble of updating the radio and then hope the OTA will push, why not install the update? Its the same process and you'll be assured you have the 3.26 build.
Because I can not install the update right now if you read my first post I explain. It says update aborted

Your doing it wrong. My idea is you would be using hboot to flash the update. It will work and not fail.
You issue using the update.zip idea is phone is checking for files that aren't there and then aborting. Hboot will not look for these files and will upgrade you.
An even easier idea would be just to run the ruu if you have a windows PC.
I'm just trying to save you time and headache. You don't have take my advice.

Don't open or unzip the file. Simply rename and move to SD card. Check the md5 to make sure the zip didn't go tits up during download.

Incredible OTA update

OK, so for the last couple of months I've been putting off updating with the ota just because when I tried to do it, it wouldn't go through because i rooted with unrevoked forever and my security is off (S-off).. So I finally get around to do it, but I can't figure out how to turn security back on (S-on). I thought I could do it by running unrevoked again but this time uncheck Disable security on phone. Well I tried it like 5 times and I still got S-off. So how do I turn it back on to get the newest update, or does anyone have it in an update.zip format?

Why do you want to do that?
That said, if it's what you really want to do, then download the latest PB31IMG file from Doug Piston's Site. Rename the file to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of your sdcard, and reboot into HBOOT. Follow the onscreen prompts.
You'll still have S-OFF, but that's not going to prevent the ROM from installing. If you don't want to replace things like your recovery, radio, hboot, with the defaults then remove those .img files from the zip file.
Here, to get s-off the file i attached should work. Its from the get back to stock thread
So if I go get the newest pb31img.zip, that's basically the newest ota? And all I have to do is hboot install it?

Yes. Removing the recovery.img means that you won't lose your ClockworkMod Recovery. Alternatively, you could download CWM 3.0.0.8 for the Inc from and replace the recovery.img file in the RUU so that you're flashing the latest CWM instead of the stock recovery.
Similarly, you can grab your favorite radio version from this thread and replace the radio.img file. The one built into the RUU is 07.28, whereas 11.19 is the latest that works with our phones (even if it did come from the Evo). If you're not sure which radio works best for you, then I'd advise starting with the stock 07.28 radio, and seeing which works best for you over time. Different radio versions can have different effects for people depending on their location. For many, it can improve signal strength (and, correspondingly, battery life). For others it makes things worse.
Also, you can't flash S-ON on the Inc unless you're running the 07.28 radio.
What is different with the new hboot?

I'll be honest, I don't know. However, some ROMs require the latest HBOOT to work, so it's worth upgrading while you're resetting everything else.

No, that's not going to work quite the same way. I've never peeked into the OTA file to see what's inside, so I don't know what kind of results you'll get.
Thank you so much, that helped a lot! So I pulled the doug pm31img.zip, put the new clockwork recovery into a new pm31img.zip then copied the contents of Doug pm31img to the new pm31img with out the recovery.img. then re-zipped it, do I need to use no compression? (I used winrar to create the new pm31img.zip)
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Compression ratio doesn't matter -- I used max with 7-zip. Just make sure you use Deflate, not Deflate64 or any other advanced compression method.
And make sure it's name is PB31IMG.zip, not PM31IMG.zip.
Oh, and make sure your SD card is FAT32 formatted, not FAT16.

Help with installing hzboot on g2 without pc

So I'm going off these instructions .....
RavenFB said:
So, you've seen those new Sense 3.0 ROMs floating around, but haven't had an opportunity to try them yet? Well, I've developed a simplified method for getting you rolling with Virtuous Unity 1.31. Of course, after you have installed the DZ Hboot, you can install any Sense 3.0 ROM you wish, even though this guide is specifically for Unity.
This guide will show you how to install the DZ Hboot, and the Virtuous Unity ROM, with out using adb or a computer. The entire process is done on the phone.
First, let me thank the Virtuous dev team responsible for this gem of a ROM. Excellent work, and we tip our hats.
Now, this installation requires the following:
A rooted G2 with Clockwork Recovery 3.0.2.4.
Two MicroSD cards.
Optional: WiFi access, Tapatalk and Opera Mobile, installed internally. Opera makes downloading the required files much more reliable, and it can be easier using TT to browse this page.
The first thing you should do is stop by www.VirtuousRom.com, and check things out there. The Unity ROM and the OC frequency patch come from their website, and I firmly believe in giving credit where it is due.
Once you are ready to begin, download Unity 1.31 from this link, preferably via WiFi. This beast is about 400MBs, so be you may not want to deal with cellular speeds. You can also find this ROM on RomManager, if you prefer, under the Virtuous tab.
http://www.multiupload.com/TS4IAWJVMZ
Once that has finished, you should download the OC Frequency patch. You may not need it, but you definitely want to have it already downloaded if it is needed.
http://unity.flemmard.net/patches/virtuous_unity-ocfreq-patch.zip
You will also want to download a good radio to use, since the DZ Hboot will overwrite your current radio. This is the most current compatible radio:
http://www.mediafire.com/?r1tal256p11uzyz
Once you have finished downloading these files, use a file manager (ES File Manager or Astro, etc) to check the SDCard root (/sdcard/) to make sure there is no file named PC10IMG.zip located there. I'll explain why shortly. After you have confirmed this, shut off your phone, remove the battery, remove the SDCard, and insert the second card. Replace the battery, and reboot.
After the phone is running again, you need to download this file: http://db.tt/uCHeUDp If the link stops working, please PM me so I can upload the file to an alternative service, as this is from my personal Dropbox.
When the download finishes, use a file manager, and find /download/DZHboot_PC10IMG.zip. Copy/paste it to the root of your SDCard, and then rename it PC10IMG.zip.
A quick word about PC10IMG.zip: this file, when present on the root of your SDCard, will automatically be read by your bootloader. We want this to update your HBoot. However, the reason we DO NOT want a PC10IMG on the first card is because this file also prevents the bootloader from being able to enter recovery. This is why this method requires two cards. One to flash the HBoot, and one to enter recovery to flash a ROM. Once the HBoot flashes, it will wipe your phone, so you must have a ROM or backup to get it working again.
Reboot your phone into bootloader. If you have 3/4 way reboot, simply hold the power button while the phone is on, select reboot/restart, and select bootloader. If you do not have this feature, shut the phone off, then hold volume down+camera key, then press power. The bootloader will scan for updates, and will then prompt you if you wish to apply the update. Press volume up to accept this prompt. Do not turn the phone off or remove the battery while this process is engaged! When it is complete, you will be prompted to reboot the phone. Do so. You will notice that your phone is "stuck" at the white HTC bootsplash, even if you have flashed a different splash image. This is normal.
Remove the battery. Remove the SDCard, and insert the first card. Boot into the bootloader, and then volume-down to recovery, and press power. While the phone has technically been "wiped", there is the possibility of remaining bits of info in the memory, so it is good practice to perform a complete wipe. Scroll down to "mounts and storage", and select the following options: "format /cache, format /data, and format /system." DO NOT format /sdcard!!!
Now press the back key to return to the main screen, and select "install a .zip from SDCard". You can find Virtuous Unity in the /download folder if you downloaded from your web browser, or /clockworkmod/downloads/ if you used RomManager. Select the Unity zip file, and install it. Once this is done, press the back key to the main menu, select "reboot device".
Once the G2 has started up, you may experience lockups. This is a known bug with the G2 related to overclocking. If it happens, reboot into bootloader, enter the recovery, and flash /download/virtuous_unity-ocfreq-patch.zip. This should fix the problem!
Last step: open a file manager, and find the radio file you downloaded earlier. It should be in /download, and is a .zip named Vision Radio 12.56.60.25 26.10.04.03 PC10IMG.zip. Copy/Paste to the root of your SDCard (which we can do now that the phone is working again!) And then rename it PC10IMG.zip Reboot one last time into bootloader, and again press volume up to accept the update. When it is done, reboot the phone as prompted. Delete the PC10IMG.zip files from the root of each SDCard, and you are done! Enjoy!
Hope you find this helpful!
EDIT: Updated the DB link to the Hboot.

Perhaps it didn't download properly. Reboot and re download. Delete previous version and move new DZ hboot to the root (not in any folders) of your SD. Be sure you've named it PC10IMG.zip and not PC10IMG.zip.zip. The zip part is added automatically so you shouldn't need to enter it yourself. Then reboot into bootloader and try again.

So your purpose is to obtain the DZ eng hboot without using a PC... meaning without ADB, right? Because there are other ways to do this... they require a PC, but if it's that important to you you should download the Android SDK.
There's a really clear/great guide here.
Maybe contact some of the Virtuous guys like cjward23... he's really knowledgable. I don't know why in the world the file isn't being recognized by your phone.
One strange thing I encountered... my phone wouldn't recognize the PC10IMG file unless I booted into bootloader from the phone off, using volume down + power button. This may have been a fluke, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Do I need to go to system info in bootloader and get that stuff to? Thanks for helping me

Which is basically the same as mine only the hboot version is different,I am really not sure what the problem is,try one more time on the computer to download the PC10IMG.zip and send it across,I see from searching that there seems to be a few people having problems,do the MD5checksum as that makes sure the zip has not been corrupted and rules out a bad download.
Try from the official site or from my dropbox link.

Have PM'd you with a suggestion to reroot your phone as I am out of ideas

help with evo 4g s-off/root!

okay, first off im gonna start out saying i am a samsung user and know nothing about htc. my buddy got an evo 4g for free and he wants me to root and install a rom, so i figured out i need s-on but have no idea how to do it. i tried the revolutionary thing but i entered the beta code and it always says invalid. please help! how do i do this?
Check your Hboot version first, if you haven't already done so. You can check the version by going into the bootloader (volume down+power). If it's 2.18 you'll have to use the Htcdev method to unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery and root the phone. Revolutionary won't work with the newest Hboot. Incidentally, you don't have to have S-OFF to install a ROM or flash kernels, for that matter. So long as the bootloader is unlocked and the phone is rooted with a custom recovery, you're good to go.

For that h boot u can use revolutionary. First u need to install drivers ,make sure u check on usb debugging and unknown sources When u enter beta key make sure its entered correctly it is case sensitive from my PC36100 using xda premium
I found it worked much better just to copy the beta key and then paste it once prompted to enter it. It seems like a lot of people were getting errors trying to manually type the key in, but hey, if it works, it works

Okay, dumb question. When you entered the serial number of the phone to get the key, did you make sure you didn't use O for 0 (zero)? Not sure that could be part of the issue but worth looking at. I honestly can't think of anything else at this point. I remember when Revolutionary first came out last year, people were having a lot of issues with getting the beta key accepted. I for one didn't have this issue so I'm at a loss at this point.

HTC EVO 4G PC36100 ~ XDA Premium
If I recall correctly, there is a su binary file that you have to flash from recovery once you've run Revolutionary. It's a zip file that's in the Revolutionary guide. Running the su binary is what actually gives you root. You'll need to make sure that you have the app Superuser or SuperSU installed, as it will actually give permission for root apps (such as Titanium Backup) to operate. As far as kernels and such, look under the development section there, as there is a ton of great info there
Also, once you get rooted, I'd suggest going into Recovery and making a full Nandroid backup, especially if you plan on flashing a ROM or kernel. It'll come in handy if you get in a tight spot down the road.

I'm not sure what the problem was but I ended up updating to gb with 2.18 hboot then downgraded to android 2.2 then ran the unrevoked program then flashed a rom. Worked perfectly.
