You have got to admit he is right, when I didnt know which damn phone I wanted to buy (d2, hero, omnia pro, tp2 etc etc) I seriously considered the iPhone 3GS but having played around with it the only two things that stood out were the price of the thing and the app store and how easy it was to download apps (it was like the Xbox 360 marketplace!), the interface was pretty boring now (but back in 2007 when I first tried it I was like wow wow this is so cool!)
If Apple dont do something soon, they are going to lose out, in Europe I think HTC has began outselling Apple devices (with Nokia first) and now with Google Android devices I think they have some serious, if not overwhelming competition!
HTC all the way!
Apple has a built-in audience of macophiles, and on top of that, for the last 2 years they've also owned the OMG! SHINY! audience. The Shinies can't be held on to (nothing can be the shiny new thing forever) and the macophiles can't be lost. It's an interesting mix to carry.
I'm not sure there's anything they really can do to stay dominant (multitasking, UI overhaul, etc might be nice, but probably not going to really breathe life into the iPhone like the iPhone breathed into smartphones at launch). But they aren't going anywhere. They'll (eventually) come off an unsustainable high, find a plateau and then be a fixture.
I've never been a fan, and I've never owned an Apple product, but I'm impressed they flew as high as they did for as long as they did.
well you can fool people sometimes but you can't fool all the people all of the time! thats my quote of the day for apple. when iphone came out it without a doubt revolutionary. now the shine is quickly wearing off........... the whole platform, the way apple servers control everything and the way the have a hand in all that you do with your own bloody handset!
the latest blunder ........... Iphone 3GS 'they think you are the same'. thats the take off line on the advert ............ i say yes you are the same with a few extra apps which are widely available in the app store and for free on cydia/icy! yes folks it is a scam. there is no difference between the iphone 3G and 3GS. the camera is 3.2(not) - just been tweaked to take higher res photos and of course 16 and 32gb models only........... everything apple claim new about 3GS you can freely add to 3G model! they pulled out all the stops with creating the original iphone and alas it seems there is no room for going forward!
Seeing an iPhone 4 of a friends the other day next to his 3g was quite funny. The so called amazing resolution screen just looked brighter, more colourful and a tiny bit sharper.
It's funny, before I got my Desire I had an iPhone 3g and I was amazed by it once it got updated to 3.0 firmware. Once jailbroke I could customize the way it looked immensely which is something that a lot of people who use these forums say you can't do. Anyway, my contract was up and being impatient I couldn't hold on for the iPhone 4.0. I'll be honest, I really wanted it but a release date wasn't announced. So I went for the Desire. First thoughts we're, great phone, brilliant screen, very fast, widgets are pretty cool, easy to use, coming from iPhone. Then after a few weeks of enjoying it, the iPhone 4 release date was announced. Then I wanted an iPhone again it looked amazing, all the hype was mental. But I just signed a new contract so there was no way of me getting one. My friend had ordered one and it arrived the other day at work. I didn't get to use it but from what I saw, its not much different visually (display) from the iPhone 3g and its practically the same as the 3g, apart from the cameras, speed, multitasking and obviously a few more things.
So basically what I'm trying to say is. It's no way near as good as the Desire, to use and to look at as far as I'm concerned. Seriously the Desire is a way better phone. The camera doesn't matter its good enough and multitasking on the iPhone is just the worst thing I've ever seen its really poor just the way it actually works. It's terrible.
Not much of a review but just something to stop the arguing and give advice when deciding what phone you want. That's if your choosing out of these two.
p.s
I typed this in landscape on my desire with no problems at all. :
Bloke at work brought his new iPhone in and how we laughed as I got him to 'hold' it and the signal strength went down and then dropped.

Yeah, I heard about that as wyell. its something to do with the metal surrounding on the iPhone is the antenna. Haha. Unfortunately my Desire doesn't have a metal surrounding.
;-)
Just been playing with my dads iphone 4 , and laughed at apples version of multitasking!
Played angry birds, then went into calender and back again, to see the game started all again!
So i just had to do it with another game on my phone, to show how proper multi tasking works! Straight back into the game where i left off !
Have a laugh.....a good one

LOL
Fanboyism aside, the iPhone 4 does bring some awesome things to the table, like an amazing camera & camcorder and.. well, that's it. Still, it beats any Android smartphone in that department, hands down.
This chap claims not to have noticed the signal drop whilst he is making calls......
a phone primary function is to make calls ... got to hold your iphone4 in the right way so that you can make calls ... now that is another revolution to the mobile industry
Well, actually, for pictures, the Desire's camera is just as good. Yeah Apple wants to make you believe they have something special, but they really don't. It's just a 5 megapixel camera like everyone else uses (except for the 8 megapixel ones in some other Androids).
I've looked at lots and lots of pictures of both phones, including direct comparison shots, and the Desire's camera is actually the exact same (for pictures, not video).
The software handles some things differently, like the sharpening (I recommend everyone to set sharpness to +1 on the Desire), the pictures look a bit less washed but also lack more detail. But those are just small differences caused by different software and the iPhone certainly doesn't do it better (just a bit differently).
What I actually wanted to say, I HATE when Apple gets credit for doing what others have done for years, like 5 megapixel cameras and video calling. And most of the time, they're not even doing it better and often they're doing it worse (like multitasking or that antenna design, which has been invented by HTC and actually works with HTC phones, without dropping calls).
I got my first android phone yesterday, the Desire and damn it's smooth. I always heard that iPhone apparently has the better keyboard, but the Desire blows my iPod touch away.
I love it and have done nothing but geek my phone today, hail HTC!!

Welcome to the world of Android Elf... it's a great place to live
I don't want to be a jerk or attack anyone, but there is some stuff in this thread that I just need to comment on.
I am surrounded by relatively smart people. Many psychologists also. What the original poster is doing is the following: you don't want to feel bad about your purchase (the Desire) so you blindly attack the iPhone 4. I am NOT saying the HTC Desire is bad. But I am pretty sure that what you are doing here is trying to make fun of the iPhone 4 to make yourself feel better about the Desire.
I did this as well. I bought the HTC HD2 just before the Nexus One was announced and I was like: 'aaah... the HD2 is much better. That Android is almost the same as WM. Aaah.. I don't need amoled screens..' etc. All just to hide the fact that I maybe should have waited an bought the Nexus One.
Anyway, what you are saying is not true. The iPhone 4 is pretty good. In fact, if I could trade my HTC Desire for a iPhone 4 I would do it. And I absolutely love the Desire. But I don't fool myself, I know that the iPhone 4 is better. Let me just give you a few examples:
Appstore. Biggest and best on the iPhone. Facebook is the best on the iPhone. Shazam is the best on the iPhone. Every app is usually the best on the iPhone. Developers see the iPhone as their number one, which is very important.
Games. I choose to wright a separate part about this even though it could have fitted with Appstore. You want games on your phone? Then iPhone 4 is without doubt the BEST choice. Highest resolution display + A4 chip (1GHz) + Gyroscope (or whatever that is called. Check out what the Gyroscope does.. its very nice for games). And off course the best titles. The Android Market fails in the games category compared to the Apple Appstore.
Camera. The iPhone 4 has one of the best camera's on any mobile phone. It's only 5 megapixels, but it takes very good pictures. And the HD recording is again, the best out there. At a smooth 30fps with great adios quality its top notch. With iMovie you can even edit all that stuff on your iPhone..
Build quality. Even though I have not held the new iPhone myself, every review goes the same. The build quality is unbelievable. It will make almost any smartphone to date feel cheap. And I can understand that.. it just looks and feels amazing. At 9.3mm thin it's just a very good looking phone.
Facetime. Now I suddenly realised something a few days ago. This may sound dramatic but try to take it seriously. Apple is helping humankind to the next step. Why? Soon many, many people (normal people, kids, grandparents, mothers, everybody) will go from voice calling to video calling. And yes its because of the iPhone 4. They just make it easy to use and it works well. Try to be totally honest with yourself and think about this. It's true. Videocalling may have existed, but it was crap. That's why it never reached the mainstream.
Battery life. The new iPhone should have a very decent battery life. This happens to be one of the areas where the Desire .. sucks.
So.. I know it is hard but try to be honest regarding these things. Yes I have a Desire myself and no I won't be able to buy that new iPhone for at least a year (and by then, the next one should come out). But I am honest regarding those things.
Oh, and the dude trying to attack the iPhone on the 'bad multitasking'. Angry birds (one of my favorite games ever! ) has probably not been updated to multitasking yet. Remember, the developers must update their apps to work. So again, its a bad argument against the iPhone. Though I won't disagree with the fact that if you want the ultimate multitasking, you are better off with the Desire.
Conclusion: Enjoy your Desire without attacking other phones please. Be a grown up.
Come on...

Now I have not posted in this thread, but really.. Come on...
Why do you think that the people you surround yourself with, describes or adds something to you or your arguments? In this case, I could claim that you could be inside a mental asylum (for being surrounded with psychologists) .
But seriously, "blindly attack"? Where have you been? Its been proved on many iPhones that you can't even hold the iPhone 4 properly without losing your network-connection. The multi-tasking is horrible according to reviewers and other people that tested it. And Steve Jobs email is frakking horrific, but not unexpected.
Since when is this blind attacks? Sure the phone-build, camera, and some software is great, but still no other device would be spared ridicule if the errors is as great as the iPhone 4's. It will be scrutinized and by all means, it deserves the ridicule it to this point have (not)received, lol.

Best camera on any phone???
U must be smoking something there ha ha ha
Have you even seen pix from some of the 8MP camera fones out there, not to mention 12MP fones around the corner.
Yes Apple have more apps then Android, that dont mean they all better.
Games are the ONLY advantage apple has.
The build quality may also be good BUT whats the point when the main function of a MOBILE PHONE which is to make phone calls goes away when you hold your phone a certain way.
I mean come on, your paying £500 for your IPhone 4, you should not be TOLD how to hold it in order to make phone calls. You should be able to hold it how u like and still not loose signal like all other phones out there.

Appstore. How long has iPhone appstore been.out compared to android market?
Games. Correct games are better on iphone 4 but a couple hours of gaming and bye bye battery. That's why they made the ps3. And there isn't a noticeable difference in display quality against the Desire I've looked at both together and there equally as good, what ever it says on paper.
Camera. The iPhone 4 has one of the best camera's on any mobile phone. It seriously isn't one of the best. Picture quality is same as Desire if not a tiny bit better. You win on video recording but I think in future the Desire will perform the same after an update. I'm sure with the hardware its got it can eventually record at 720p 30fps. You'll see.
Build quality. I agree apple always have an excellent build quality and that's where you're wallet gets emptied.
Facetime. Trust me your not gonna use this. U might at first but eventually you wont. I mean come on how gay is video calling. Hearing a voice is suffice.
Battery life. The new iPhone should have a very decent battery life. This happens to be one of the areas where the Desire .. sucks. Wrong my friend's last about the same as desire according to him. He has both phones.

"Be a grown up" gayest insult of the year award.
I wont quote you one the beginning, I would only say that is not true (that we say Desire is better because we bought it).
I didn't get Desire on contract, I paid it in cash. That means I had the money to buy any phone I like (overall anyone, when we take the fact that I paid for the Desire 500 euro). I knew exactly why I want the Desire. I knew it's features, it's positive and negative sides. I liked the look of Sense (instead of jailbreaking my phone just so I can change my wallpaper, this happen in previous models of iPhone), I liked the OS and it's openness, and I liked it's look. In fact, I liked everything about Desire, and I think that this will be the phone I will have for longest (in case it doesn't break). I know this because with my previous phones, I lost the will to play with them after 3-4 days after purchase. With the Desire is completely different: my work is suffering because I keep doing something on it all the time, and I have it for 3 weeks
I mean, there are so many thing to do with it, sky is the limit (and the knowledge of members here, which I believe is wide and big as the sky).
Anyway, lets go back to some points you made with which I completely disagree (okay, my whole post is disagreement with yours, but still )

That CAN (and will, I guess) change. On the Google IO, google announced 50.000 apps on the market. When was that, a month ago? Today there are over 65.000. That is 15.000 apps in a month. At this rate, there will be 150.000 more apps in the Market in the next 10 months.
But, I hope and expect this rate to change when I'll take in mind how fast people (developers) are turning toward Android.
Don't make me start at the attitude of Apple toward developers.
By the way, developers develop for public. If there are users of Android more then of iOS, they will start developing for Android. Sc**w that fine program if nobody uses it. So their primary motive to do something is "how many people will use their app?".
Apple has more apps, but I bet that will change. In 2 years, there were 50.000 apps in the market. BUT, in just 1 month, there were 15.000 more. Just one month, read that carefully. That shows to me that something is drastically changing.

My same reply from above goes to the games. I will only add something here: At CPU side they may be the same (although there are comments that apple have underclocked the iPhone CPU at something like 700MHz... and we have OVERclocked ours at 1.2GHz ).
Concerning the resolution... it's not that of a big deal. The screen is smaller then of Desire, so that makes the resolution lose. Unless you watch your iPhone 4 display with microscope, then you would notice the more pixels on the iPhone. Otherwise, the naked eye doesn't need more pixels on such small space.

Probably, I can only guess. But what about that same build breaking easy and that same build causing such a big issue with network connectivity?
It's not just build something. Are you aware that in order for you to have decent connectivity, you will have to cover your nice looking iPhone? What's the point?
When we talk abous build quality, we have to take the strength (which sucks, on the second drop the screen dies, on the forth drop the glass is broken) and the looks (which again sucks, because the network sucks if you don't cover it with rubber, and if you do that, it's not good looking anymore).

I don't even want to start about this. I will only say: if those grandparents, parents, children... wanted to see eachother, why didn't they use video calls over 3G? That technology exists for over 5 years, and I have never used it (except for one time, to test with a friend what does it do in fact). Or Fring? Or whatever other app that exists there for video calls?

If you look at both phones specs (I have), you will notice that on paper they have VERY similar battery specs. And still, your opinion about the Desire battery life comes from experience, but for the iPhone comes from reading? That is rather unfair :/
Just lets wait and see how iPhone will do in real life situations. My wife charge her iPhone 3GS twice in a day. She has to, her battery goes flat at noon. My battery lasts 2 days, with very big usage (I said above, I can't put my Desire of my hands). iWin

EDIT: Wow, this post is so long now ))
Surely face time isn't a winner with it only being on wifi I've had nokia n97 and samsung Omnia both had forward facing cameras i used then both zero times, ok grannies wanting to see grandchilden i get that but i sure as hell don't want to see your ugly mug or the wifes... or my mates.. ok if your away for a while it would be nice to see the face of a family but iphone4 only? and wifi only?...
More megapixels don't make a nice photo, the lense and sensor are probably more important, i would find it hard to believe that the iphone4 isn't better in this catagory, low light shots with the desire are super grainy and striped = bad sensor.
Iphone4 looks very nice right up until you touch it then it's lovely lux black look is greasy finger tastic!
edit: so you have to hold it around the edge... oh wait!
I just have to say a few things in reply to XDA Mark... Psychologists aside :]
Appstore: Really??? Have you taken a look at the quality of apps in there? 80% are duplicates of other apps, 10% are original in their design and 10% are games. Coming from an iPod Touch 2g, I have to say i found all the apps that I need to be productive on a phone in 1% of the time it took me to find them on the ipod just because i didn't have to sift through 1 gazillion useless knock-offs. And then i found some more!
Whoever said MORE apps means BETTER apps??? Yes, there are lots of awesome apps in Appstore but i have not found anything that apps in Android Market can't do and can't do better! And widgets - oh, "non-denominational super-being", I love widgets.
Build quality: Sorry, but after a certain point this is subjective! And you haven't even held it yourself! I find my Desire to have a superb build quality - try to disprove that.
Games: What are we - 12? Do we need silly little 3D games on a 3.4inch screen. That's just laughable. Whoever thought gaming without physical buttons is kewl?! With the current state of haptic feedback this is the most inorganic and crappy method of control. My thumbs take about 35% of the screen of a 3.4inch ipod touch - good luck trying to play like that. My point is - games matter for iPad/tablets. For a phone - i am content with tower defense and sudoku! For Mass Effect 2 I have my HD 5870 and an overclocked i7-920 at home thank you very much.

wp7 will be hitting sprint shortly and i wonder how many evo users are considering jumping back to the dark side?
myself i won't even consider touching the platform until i can theme and customize it to my liking. maybe even be able to run android on it. plus remove that ugly UI.
I am I love that interface IMO from MCE to the zune HD but android will probably get ported to it so that would rock too. I just want something to work with a zune pass and better media options and sync.

Played with one yesterday and it was pretty awesome. I played with the wp7 phone that had the slide out speaker. The biuld quality is much better than the evo and the phone was heavy as hell.

I won't let myself talk myself into considering wm again. I stuck with wm since the 8125 up until the evo came out. I loved my tilt 2 and of course it looks like the new tilt is wm again. Although I like that form factor, I won't be jumping ship again. Especially with evo shift coming sometime, even though we really don't know much about t yet.

That's what I thought too until I played with it. The device is really snappy and the transition from landscape to portrait was instantaneous. That was a major problem in WM devices of the past. The phone that I played with was the HTC Surround and it felt really solid. The device was heavy (I would say twice the weight of the Evo) but it felt really good. I have a preference for heavy phones so it wasn't a big deal to me. I think I may jump ship if a comparable device comes to Sprint.
I think from the app store standpoint you would see many cool apps with WP7. I also liked WM because anything you can do on a PC you could pretty much do on WM.
i would def consider it, I played with a HD7 and once a few updates come out it will be a powerhouse
Personally, I like the UI and the devices. Presumably the device that's coming to Sprint would be the 7 Pro, which looks like the touch Pro 2 I used to have, with updated styling and hardware. And I'd love to get native support for office docs back. So far I've tried a couple android apps for viewing and editing excel and word docs and they've all sucked. On top of that, I'm still missing my TP2's physical keyboard - swype's nice, but I'm nowhere near as fast with it as I was on the TP2. I guess even though I'm on android now, I spent enough time with WM that I'm still a bit of a WM apologist (and there ARE bright spots to WM - it's just that they're all outshadowed by all the development on the competing OS's out there).
But I don't think I'll be tempted - the lack of flexibility is a deal breaker for me. No sideloading, no installing non-market apps, no removable / hot swappable storage = unacceptable for my purposes
On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if I sell a lot of them to my customers once they come out. Right now all I've got for WM is the HTC TP2 and the Snap. we've got updated BB's and androids left and right, but there's a gaping hole in the WM lineup. And it looks like the locked-down approach that WM7 has taken should appeal to business use - the end users get a fancier handset that can do more fun stuff, but it's locked down enough that the IT guy doesn't have to worry about them screwing everything up.
I hope for MS's sake that it's not too late - in the last 6 months I've seen a ton of users move from WM and BB (mostly BB) to android. It seems the end users have wanted fancier phones for a while, and the IT directors are getting comfortable enough with android that a lot of businesses are changing their policy to allow for androids. and the lines I lose to the iPhone are predominantly WM and BB devices - we don't lose many EVO's and Epic's to the iPhone. WM and BB are really losing quite a bit of momentum.
F**K WP7, F**K iOS, and F**K BlackBerry. I love Android, I love my EVO, I love HTC, and I love Google. Enough said for my answer
Sent from my EVO's 4G You?........I thought so
Wow. Got some dedicated people here. LOL. Anyway, WP7 look interesting, but I'm not jumping on it in its current "beta" form, if at all. For those who are completely loyal to an OS, I hope you're getting paid by, or at the very least own stock in Google or whoever owns your current OS. I'll never understand the mentality of a fanboy. I've been using Android for about a year, and I've yet to receive any money from Google. Seriously though, the only loyalty I have tying me down is the money I've invested in Android apps. I use Android because it's what I like best and what works best for me at this time. IOS worked for me for a while, but I got tired of the cat and mouse game with jailbreaking and Apple's whole philosophy in general. Who knows though? Maybe if WP7 really steps it up in the next 6 months or so, I'll consider a switch.
I'll be sticking with android. I'm hooked.
I'm a huge fan of Android, its the only OS that I never had a huge problem with. All if my recent phones have been Android powered. And I never really had a problem with HTC phones so I stick with them if I can. I wish I got paid by them or owned stock, but I have no problem representing what I like
Sent from my EVO's 4G You?........I thought so
I like the look of WP7 wayyyy better than Android. Android is just... ugly. I've tried many themes, Sense, stock, etc. And none of it looks right.
Then again, Android is a much better OS than WP7. Especially because it is more open.
I had an HD7 for 2 weeks. I had switched from an iphone 3gs. The first day I loved the clean UI. It looked great and exchange email is the best of all 3 platforms (no shock here). But then things went downhill. The HD7 had deplorable reception, often losing the network indicator. The phone was poorly built, with the bezel on the right side coming away from the body. The dedicated camera button that i so wanted was total junk and had to be pressed with the edge of your fingernail. The screen was total garbage. I have never seen pictures look this bad on a modern smartphone. The camera was also below par. Finally I bored with the simple UI and returned the phone for an Evo.
WP7 could be the everyman's UI, its that clean and simple. But if you like doing any amount of tweaking, stay far away!
Oh, believe me, I'm not saying it's bad to be a fan of anything. In fact, it's good to know what you like and want. Like I said, I'm currently an Android fan. I just don't have any allegiance to them. It's the fanboy mentality I don't get. Same crap happened (and still does) with Xbox 360 and PS3. I own both, and the only reason I usually buy Xbox versions of games is because I prefer the controller, not because of an allegiance to Microsoft. That would just be stupid.
I would love to try it. I really miss WinMo =(. The way I could sync everything flawlessly via bluetooth (especially OneNote). *Sigh* I can't justify plopping another couple hundred dollars on a phone though. Boo!
At any rate, I agree with live2ride. It's just an OS and nothing more. Personally, I like to play around with different platforms, it keeps my inner geek alive. For those saying you can't install apps that aren't on the market? As long as you control the registry, you control the phone...just my two cents.
Its ugly I'm not diggin those big sqares, and Im not ready to walk away from all the apps I payed for on Android.
I bet anything a home replacement to emulate WM7 will surface sooner or later.

I like the look of WP7 wayyyy better than Android. Android is just... ugly. I've tried many themes, Sense, stock, etc. And none of it looks right.
Then again, Android is a much better OS than WP7. Especially because it is more open.

stock vanilla is ugly but after you theme it IMO it looks 10x better than winmo did. you can basically make android look whatever you want it to look like.
im half tempted to try wp7 but im not sure if i want to give up on my evo. that metro UI has got to go.
I wouldn't touch any OS product from MS. I'll stick with Android or iOS.
ive just read on engadget about lg optimus 3d
wondering what os will be running on this beast i thought if wp7 may be the one.
i bet with some quick improovements wp7 os will look awesome in real 3d
what do you think?
does wp7 have a 3D future ?
No, and do we need it on any phone? No. Its a gimmick that wont catch on.
The new DS has it, and apparently no one cares.
Unless i'm mistaken the Optimus line is Android. But you are right WP7 would be the best looking 3d os ever as icons on a grid is all very 2d and i think the display would be wasted.

I would care unless it looked wish washy like some 3d movies do and just strain the eyes. This is why WP7 would be great in 3d, its simple bold design and transitions would look great.

That still hasn't answered the fundamental question: Who actually thinks 3D is anything other than a gimmick on phones?
In fact, things tend to look less real in 3D don't you think? And on a 4inch screen, you'll simply be wondering what the hell is going on down there.
3D is an abomination that needs to go.

Isnt almost everything a gimmick on a phone these days ie album art on music, bounce back effects on menus, nice transitions between screen etc but without this stuff what are you left with? Something that works but will bore you to death. Yes 3d is not needed its over the top slightly stupid and a waste of anyones time, but, wouldn't it be pretty kewl lol.
yea its not like this 3D is like hologram ala star trek which comes out of the screen, but its a start.
since i never had a nintendo 3ds in my hands i cant judge it. but ive followed it since it became first announced, glass free 3D was the next step and im very curious how good it works.
shutter glass 3D is pretty awesome with animated movies.
gimick only!?, well ... they will be plenty of games using 3D
not sure if ull watch lots of 3D movies.
and im not sure how good taken 3D pictures look, but i imagen it kinda nice.
and also talking about gimicks, is the rentina display is not nearly as awesome as a glass free 3D screen!?
next step after 3D will be "beamer" "hologramm" like displays, heh maybe stuff like you see in the game dead space....
dreams come true if you just work hard enough....
you do know prolonged viewing of 3D is not great for your eyes even nintendo has a warning that you shouldnt be playing it for long terms.

Let's think about Star Trek later. WP7 is a long way back in the past and has to catch up with the present first.
Even when it comes to gaming, there is no standard controller for WP7. Navigate a 3D area by smudging your hands over the screen? First things first.
Mmm is that not an issue faced across all platforms? lol

i see your point, but always remember wp7 is new.
true its lacking some features, but its mostly its only software.
it just hasnt been programmed yet.
i think the first iphone was much worse then the wp7 fundament.
we got most of the basic stuff covered..
now its slowly about getting it better and better.
as long as the hardware can keep up, i think we will be fine.
i just hope they wont stop support it in later revisions
like apple does with their phones.
and i dont see much of a problem with navigating 3D space
while its not the best idea to touch the phone to navigate on the 3d display i belive, there are plenty of control shemes in future:
mind controll - thought2text & thought2navigate
maybe a little far, but not as far as you might think.
kinect gesture based input - already used in many homes, why not on your phone. 2 front cameras and lets have fun.. maybe kinda weird but hey, sign language with your phone.
2nd touch screen - maybe on the back.
hardware buttons - meh, but should work (bluetooth controlled hardware buttons, more nice)
but maybe it wont be 3d screen.
i almost forgot about crystal clear flexible screen... damn i love the future..
lets see:
Nokia Morph - running WP7 in 3D with included kinect.
but hey, first things first, let me jump onto another cloud....
Oh, PLEASE give me a phone that can make me sick and give me a headache! That would be awesome!

like those GSM/CDMA ones?
lol how do they cause headaches and illness
just a little kiddin, but to tell the truth, nobody really knows what all these frequences do to humans. cancer and ****, headaches only the smallest problems.
but i can imagen 3D will hurt eyes after some time and because of that you might get headaches...
guess I have to be the one to say what everyone's thinking, the only reason you want 3D is for pron, erm I mean "internet research"

Actually, lots of people care. I played it at E3 last year and it had the biggest line going--even bigger than the Kinect. The screen is gorgeous and the 3D works strikingly well. Anticipation for the device is already pretty huge.
That said, I agree with you that 3D, generally, is just a gimmick that's failing. I have no doubt that's the reason why 3DS has a slider with the ability to completely disable the 3D feature--just in case . 3DTV's--even glasses free models--are failing as fast as the industry can make them. It's pretty clear by now that audiences just plain don't give a **** about 3D.
So, as we were mulling an upgrade from my wife's Epic4g to either an iPhone 5 or a GS3, we asked our friends for input. I already have a GS3 and have been doing a little research on the iPhone (the people at the Sprint store actually just told my wife that I was knowledgeable and I should be able to help her make the right decision and walked away from us, since I knew more about both phones than they did).
GS3 people: "Well I like the bigger screen and the battery life seems to be better than on the i5." (other various points plus and minus)
Apple people: "I love my iPhone"
Me: Why?
Apple people: "It's awesome! And it's easy"
Me: What's awesome about it?
AP: It's Apple!
Me: Can you be more specific?
AP: Well, I have an iPad too!
Me: Okay....do you ever transfer work from the iPhone to the iPad?
AP: No. But they have the same apps! I can use the same account on everything and have all the same apps!
Me: But I can do that on Android too.
AP: I have Apple TV! I can do stuff with that!
Me: But I can already select music, movies, and/or pictures and send them to my stereo receiver or my TV from my GS3.
AP: Since our family all uses the same account, we can share a calendar!
Me: You can do that on Android with Google Calendar and still share them. As a matter of fact, you can have SEPARATE accounts on Google calendar and still share them. For that matter, you can even use Google calendar on your apple products. Google goes everywhere, iCloud is just for Apple - kinda more limiting.
AP: Well, when I put a contact number in or make a change to my iCloud account, I do it one place and it's on my iPad and everywhere.
Me: Again, this is all already there using gmail. And, again, you could use gmail for your apple stuff too. When I upgrade, I don't need anyone to move contacts - that's all taken care of.
AP: Oh. But I have all these cool accessories!
Me: You mean the ones that don't work anymore because of the lightning port?
AP: But there's an adapter!
Me; It's $30 and makes everything stick up all weird, right?
AP: Well, it's not really that bad and you don't notice it very much
Me: Okaay. What about the phone itself?
AP: It's faster than my iPhone 4!
Me: Uh huh. And so's the GS3.
AP: I can make folders!
Me: Same here
AP: But it's Apple!
So, in the end, all of the "awesomeness" of Apple boiled down to pretty much stuff that's already there for android, but the iFans grew up in JobsWorld and know nothing of how to make anything work other than what they get spoon-fed, I guess.
I have my own issues with Android...I wish to HELL that Google would put a little more Apple-like clamps on what the hardware vendors do before they roll out updates (my N7 is smooth as silk, but my wife's TF700 is probably going to go bye bye very, very soon). Android is not built for the perpetual noobs that make up the iFan base, and that's kind of unfortunate. I was showing my wife Nova launcher (on both my phone and N7) and it just smokes Apple by so much it's sick. For that matter, it smokes Touchwiz and the other stock launchers, IMHO. But I think most people don't look just that little beyond what they see in the cellular store and the gaggle of moron's that make those places up, so they don't realize the power of the android base and what you truly can get done.
Last fall, my wife was DYING for i-something, particularly an iPhone. I made her wait. She listened to everyone, looked at her own experience and decided to roll up to the GS3 instead of the iPhone. Within a few minutes of getting home, she had her contacts, text messages, and call logs all from the old phone on the new one. Having what she calls her own personal "Geek Squad" helped a lot to navigate through the repeated conversations like above. Plus, she's no dummy herself!
Note to the mods: Just realized maybe I should have out this in off-topic. Feel free to move it if that's more appropriate
iphone = idiotphone

Thanks for posting that. Just as funny as the first time I saw it! Freaking classic!
Id have her wait until the GS4 releases here soon, or the HTC One seems like its gonna have a alot to offer, about the ONLY reason I would recommend an iphone is because its for your wife and woman seem to have issues with the bigger Android devices these days, my wife loves my GS3 but complains its just too big
I personally wouldn't be buying a phone right now because of the phones coming out in the next month or two, such as the HTC One and the S4, but if you got it free on contract or for something like $300 off contract it could be good.

Waiting wasn't really an option. She dropped the old one and it was green, like an ancient CRT.
As far as the size, she used my GS3 first to see if that was going to be an issue. We got it at best buy, so she has some time to change her mind.

Tis funny, around where i sit at work there are a bunch of crapple isheep. They were all happy they finally got a Jailbreak for the latest release.. I just sit and laugh.. My S3 has been rooted since about 20 min after i got her home.. lol.. I had an Iphone for a short time.. Just can't do it.. i got rid of it after a few months.. Too much crapple stuff to deal with, I prefer my Android so no matter what my accounts are synced to whatever android i choose to use.. no plug into this.. press this.. wiggle that.. nothing.. Thank god for our dev community over here

Excellent article. Thanks for posting.
I got the iPhone 5 when it first came out and traded it for a galaxy s3.. Ive rooted my device and I run CM 10.1 with android 4.2.2.. Honestly, I miss the overall smoothness, the better battery life, the quality of the apps, and of course the emojis,iMessage, and facetime. I cant say iOS is better than android but I also cant say android is better than iOS.. theyre both extremely good and each have theyre own things.. android has waaaaay more features, but is missing a lot as well. More features doesnt automatically mean better.. IMHO people shouldnt bash Iphones or androids, they're both really good and if you cant accept that then youre really just a fanboy.

You do realize you can get emojis... right?
Also, smoothness and iPhone should NEVER EVER be in the same sentence. Quality of apps? LOL, you have to pay for about 95% of any of the good apps. In the Play Store there are a HUGE amount of free apps that are exceptional quality. Please tell me what Android is "missing" that iPhone's have? I'd love to know....
Not tryna be a d*** I just don't see where you're coming from... previous iFanboy?

Just telling you my experience, I do feel it was more stable and yeah you had to pay, but from my experience i feel like they were better.. one example is Temple Run 2.. Ive played it side to side with an iphone 5 and it felt way smoother.. the emojis are black and white and I can barely figure out what it is.. But yeah youre right, there are tons of great free apps on the play store, I was referring to games when I said "quality of apps" but yes, I do miss iMessage and Facetime, but thats about it, thats what I feel like is missing to make android nearly perfect. The OS itself is super boring and stale, but when it comes to stableness, games, and battery life I feel it beats android. But then again android beats it in tons of other things. Yes, android is awesome, but you cant say people who use iphones are retards.

I play Temple Run 2 all the time and it is smooth as hell. So I have noooo idea what you are talking about. On the other hand, my GF has an iP4 and Temple Run 2 (along with the phone itself) freezes and crashes all the time lol. iPhone's/iAnything are not "smooth" at all, especially after using them for about 6 months they start to wear down and crash non stop. And battery life? I'm "averaging" 2 Days 5 hrs (53Hrs) of battery life so I don't say how you can say that either lol. Of course I have an extended battery, which for iPhones you don't have that capability, once your battery goes... you're fu****!!

Well then it must be my phone, did you tweak anything? But yeah Im not about to use and extend battery which makes my phone twice as thick,, and theres cases for the iphone as well which give you more power. But from my 4 months of using the i5 with about 150 apps, everything was super smooth
I can agree. I had the iPhone 5 for 12 days after I signed my contract and the build quality was amazing and I loved imessage because all my family has imessage. The gaming on it was so amazing and smooth as butter with ANY high end graphic intensive game BUT the lack of major customization and boring iOS set up was a major downfall so I traded it for my shiny new S3. The s3 seems just as fast in real world EXCEPT for gaming which is noticeably slower than the A6 in the iPhone 5. But aside from gaming, which I do a lot of on a phone because rim never home, the s3 is amazing. I love both apple and android and can appreciate both so I never bash either.

iPhone 5 has a MUCH faster graphics chip than anything else on the market today...
I personally am an android fan, have had several, have got my wife & parents using them, etc. But when it comes to the SoC's, apple designs their own and has been the driving force in GPU advancement in smartphones. So this guy talking about Temple Run 2 being smoother on an IP5...yeah it should be because the GPU there is much more powerful.
