Question about Factory Wipe after installing ROM - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I do a factory wipe after installing my ROMs, what's going to happen to my program's settings?
The main one I'm concerned about is Shazam. I got it before they added the new paid service, and I don't want to lose this unlimited service I had before the change.
I've been wanting to factory wipe my phone after I installed the latest leaked OTA update (with root and deodexed), but I'm a little bit hesitant to do so because of this.
EDIT: I mean full wipe, not factory wipe.

nobody knows the answer to this?

Well, I decided to try E-Mailing Shazam themselves, and before they replied, I got back an E-Mail with a list of FAQs. Two of which answered my question above, and should be helpful to any of you who are wondering the same thing:
Will I retain my unlimited tagging functionality if I update my application? (Android)
If you installed and ran the application on your device prior to 13/07, you will retain your unlimited functionality after upgrading your application, uninstalling/reinstalling the app or reloading your handset OS. (Your status is tied to your device's IMEI/MEID, and your the payment status page will display 'Paid' - you will not be charged, this refers to your application's 'state'). Please note that a 'Grandfathered' unlimited/free application cannot be transferred to any subsequent new handsets.
New users will be limited to 5 free tags per month after the 7 day free trial expires - for example, if all free tags were to be used on the 20th of the month, the user would have to wait until the 20th of the following month to tag again. At no point will a user be charged per tag request made. Should a new user wish to tag without limits, they can upgrade to Shazam Encore which costs £2.99, and this is a one-off charge.
I've received a new Android handset, can I transfer my unlimited app to my new handset?
The unlimited/free app can only be retained on your existing handset (or more specifically, your previous handset's IMEI/MEID which had Shazam installed and and used prior to 13/07/2010) - it cannot be transferred to any subsequent handsets. We're also unable to directly distribute the software.

Zune software saves and restores apps

I had several bugz on my HTC Surround. Marketplace stopped working, my email quit working, I couldn't fix or update anything. So I hard reset the phone and connected to the computer and to my surprise the Zune software reinstalled all of my apps (in the background without my knowledge) and everything now works fine. All I had to do was reset my email and other personal settings.
Well that's certainly good news, I was wondering how that was going to work with paid apps, especially since Zune doesn't show them anywhere.
well for paid apps even if you uninstall them, you can reinstall them later for free as they're tied to your windows live account. it's not like desktop software where you need a serial key, your windows live account is all thats needed as the purchases are kept on history. recently when i purchased an app, i was given an invoice a week later, and on there it also shows purchase history (including ones across xbox).
Your Milage May Vary
I have found that this is true to a point, I have had the HTC Surround, the Samsung Focus and Have finalized on the HD7 (To me the best for my usage/preferences) and excluding carrier branded apps, the Zune software saved & reinstallled about 80% of my apps (this is a guestimate derived from using the three devices and not a hard number based on any formal testing) it seems that some apps like Acrobat reader and Google search had to be reinstalled manually (I have no idea why but they were not part of the auto re-install). Anyway these are my observations so far.
Cheers
BR
Apps installed from Zune on the PC will automatically restore after a hardset. Apps installed from the marketplace directly on the phone will not.
I ended up having to swap my Surround for another Surround (broken camera button) and went through the same thing. It installed several of the programs I had, but I think it only did a few because the others I bought through the phone and never "synced" it again. That's my only guess anyway.
I'm glad once it's purchased, it is tied to the account!
And what about the app's data? When Zune restores the apps, it restores the app data also? Like, saved levels of a game, etc?
Unfortunatly, this does no happen on ZuneHD. Only the apps are resintalled, but never the data.
hopefully when we get the first update and Zune makes a backup, we can then do manual backups, or at least restores back to the last update.
I had a device where I conncected it in such a way that zune saw it and complained that there was no backup and the device would require a hard reset, or to get the rom from my maunfacturer or carrier, I don't remember the exact wording, but it did mention there were no backups to restore

Shazam 2.0

A word of warning. The new Shazam has appeared today in the marketplace as well as Shazam Encore. When you read the description it says you won't lose functions if you bought the app before May 18th, that's a lie!
You see, you can't update the old free app because it doesn't exist anymore, only 2.0 exists now. 1.0 doesn't even show up in your purchase history!
If for a reason you have to reinstall it, 2.0 will count as a new purchase and you will lose unlimited tagging. You will keep unlimited tagging only if you never ever have to reinstall the app. When you reset or buy that shiny Nokia phone in 6 months, you will only get Shazam 2.0, not the one you first got for free.
I have 1.0 installed on my phone, (I guess it's 1.0, there is no about menu for it anywhere, but it's been there for over a month and I have unlimited tagging. no update shows up in marketplace.
Are you saying that if I remove the 1.0 from my phone, I can then only install 2.0 and it will have limited tags?
Once Bing handles song tags, it won't matter much, but I have Shazam installed in my restore file, so I guess I can never really "lose" it.
What if the 1.0 xap was floating around and it was installed, wouldn't it too have the unlimited tagging?
True. It's not an update.
Just wait for Mango to have bing audio, music, whatever (;

Yes, if you remove it from your phone or buy a new phone it will not be the same version. It's not going to show up in your purchase history either even though you had it before they changed it to 2.0.
it's too bad they went that route. They'll lose customers for sure, and as Bing will do it for free, they really should be trying to build as large a loyalty base now as they can. Seems like a silly decision to me, but it's their app, their company, their choice...
I contacted Shazam, at least they were fast to answer. Hopefully he didn't get this confused with the update that went live today:
Daniel Van Damn, May-26 14:23 (BST):
Hi there
Sincere apologies for any issues caused by our recent update.
The issue has been identified and resolved, and the updated application has been submitted to the Marketplace for final approval. You'll be notified within the Windows Phone Marketplace as soon as it's available for download, this should take place within the next couple of days. If you've previously had unlimited tagging within your application, this will remain unaffected post-update, and will for all future updates. If your app is being stored in an incorrect location eg. the xbox gaming hub, it will be returned to the correct location.
Again, we're very sorry for this issue, and for any inconvenience it may have caused. Please feel free to get back in touch with any further questions or concerns you may have.
Kind regards,
Daniel Van Damn

sounds like they are talking about the previous issues and the update submitted to the marketplace is the one we're looking at now
Right. It sounds like we all need to email them to let them know that the current "fix" doesn't fix anything, and see what they can do about it.
My guess is that they won't be able to do anything. There are problems with the marketplace. I've already had one other app get lost due to a marketplace fluke, where instead of getting submitted as an update, it was submitted as a new app, forever breaking the update path for existing users. The developer apologized, but was unable to get Microsoft to transfer the purchase history from the old version to the new one.
So apparently Shazam is dead. Because I'm not going to spend $6 for a service that will be free in the OS in a few months.
Yeah we could try that.
email is: [email protected]
OK. Email sent. We'll see what happens.

Yeah came back yesterday. The issue is this version makes you lose unlimited tagging even if you bought the app before May 18th.
Great news! After a few exchanged emails with Shazam support they asked me to find my Device ID (there's a free app for that) and did some magic tricks within their database. I reinstalled the app and now I have unlimited tagging back!
Cool! Just curious, did you try installing the update before their database tweak? And if so, did you encounter the 5 tag limit? I only ask because I had to hard reset my Focus a few days ago to install a new SD card, and since I reinstalled Shazam 2.0, I have not seen the limit. I've done about 20 tags, and everything has worked fine.
Also, if their database is device id based, shouldn't your device have already been there?
And on another note, if the database IS device id based, that means anyone who upgrades to a new phone will lose their unlimited tagging, which makes me . It should be based on your Live ID, which (I think) follows you from phone to phone.
I tried to update but the marketplace wouldn't let me as Shazam 1.0 doesn't exist anymore. I had to uninstall it and install Shazam 2.0 and that's where I was hit with the tag limit.
I agree that their database should be done with Live IDs, just makes sense.

Interesting. Yeah, when I said "update" I should have been clearer. I meant did you install the 2.0 version that showed up. The reason I asked is because that is what I did after my hard reset, but I never got hit with the limit. Maybe my device id was still correct in their database, but somehow yours got lost.

Peew971, Im still with Shazam 1.0 as I don't want to lose the unlimited tags.
Is it worth updating to Shazam 2.0 ?
Thanks
It's basically the same app really, not sure if the YouTube feature is in 1.0 but I never use it. I'd say 2.0 will guarantee you get future updates but as long as yours is working there's no need to update right now.
If you do update to 2.0 and get a tag limit, do contact Shazam support, they'll fix it for you.

Can someone help me with exporting this shazam database ?

Huge issue: Factory reset required to remove WLID from phone

You heard right - there is no way to remove the Windows Live ID assigned to your phone without a factory reset. Considering there is no way to back up app data and messages, this presents a huge issue for anyone who wants to or is required to change their ID.
I had a problem just before the Mango update; I wasn't able to use the windowsphone.com services and so removed my phone from the site, assuming that I would be able to add it again in order to fix the problem. However, there was no option to do so. I asked around and someone told me I should try removing my account from my phone and logging in once more, in order to re-assign my phone to my Live ID. Upon discovering that I wasn't able to, I contacted support and they confirmed, to my dismay, that I would be required to completely reset my phone to change my ID.
I've now lost all the data I had on my phone: all my SMS messages, all my game saves - anything that wasn't synced into the cloud - gone. All because I just wanted to remove my Windows Live account from the phone. Another user had their XBL gamertag hacked and lost everything on their phone, too.
Quite honestly, it's just ridiculous and never should happen in the first place. Unfortunately, many users won't notice the issue until they want to change their ID sometime in the future. At that point, they would lose everything. So, I've created a feature suggestion at the UserVoice support page.:
http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/suggestions/2283489-allow-for-change-removal-of-windows-live-id-withou
Please vote for it, if you can. It's vital that problems like these are found and eliminated before they affect the general public.

shazam - anyone been able to get their unlimited tagging back?

as someone who downloaded shazam in the market before they started charging for it, i always had unlimited tagging with the free version of the app...and it always carried between whatever ROMs i had installed on any given day.
since upgrading to the nexus, i can't get it to give me unlimited back. i tried restoring a titanium backup from my incredible, that also didn't work. still waiting to hear back from their support team on it...
has anyone who was grandfathered into the old shazam app gotten unlimted tagging to work?
I had the same problem, but fortunately I bought Soundhound when it was .10 for the 10 billion download sale.
I've had soundhound for a while now, got it when it was the free app of the day on amazon. If I would've known this was gonna happen though, I would've bought shazam encore when it was 10 cents. I very much prefer shazam.
Has anyone been able to get unlimited tagging working?

They actually just responded to my email outlining how to get it transferred to the new device...I'll post it here for anyone who might need it. I'm going to email them later tonight with my info, we shall see if they honor their own policy.

I've received a new Android handset, can I transfer my free/unlimited app to my new handset?
Users who’ve downloaded and setup the free Shazam app prior to the 13th July 2010 can now keep their unlimited tagging status when switching to a new Android device. Note, users who purchase Shazam Encore can re-download Shazam Encore from the Android Market free as long as they use the same Google account on their new device.
To keep your unlimited tagging status, follow the steps below.
1) Note down the IMEI number of the Android device which had Shazam installed with unlimited tagging.
Trouble finding your IMEI? • If you still have the original device, the IMEI number can be found under Android Settings> About Phone> Status > IMEI. • The IMEI will be printed on a label on the device, usually under the battery. • Your carrier may also give you this information from their records if you have sold your device or lost it. • It may also be found located in/on the handset's original packaging.
2) Launch Shazam on your new device and click on Settings>About Shazam
3) Click the email address link ([email protected]). This will open up a pre-populated support email (containing your current MEID/IMEI) using your preferred email client.
4) Change to Subject text to “Android: Transfer Unlimited Tagging”
5) At the bottom of the mail, enter the IMEI number of your old device which was granted unlimited tagging.
6) Select Send
If our records indicate you were granted unlimited tagging on your old IMEI, we will transfer the same status over to your new device. Please note: Your old device will be reverted back to limited user status.
Not that this is of any help but I always thought that feature was tied to your google market account. I would have shazam grandfathered installed to multiple devices and all would show unlimited tagging. Did they recently change it? Not that shazam (non encore) shows up in my market for me anyways.

[Q] Activation Code on Lumia 900 - Not Requested?

I just got a new Lumia 900 (I love it!). To my surprise, While setting it up, I was not asked for the activation code (on another phone, it was always asked, and the one associated with my live account was always accepted). Is this normal? the fact is that I can get to the market place, download apps, but whenever I try to get to my account settings on the windowsphone web site, an error ("ooops, cannot go to this page presently, try later...") comes up, so I cannot reinstall the apps I had purchased previously (through the web page or the Reinstaller app).
Again, is this normal? if not, What can I do to have access to my old apps? thank you

i am using Lumia 900 and i moved from HD7 to this, just used my Windows Live ID, did not ask me any activation code???? i am in singapore...
And i LOVE this phone as well, best phone ever..
WP7 phones typically do not ask for activation code unless something goes wrong with your live ID. I have never been asked any activation code for all four of my WP7 phones.
nice
nice live....
I don't think they allow re-download paid apps onto another phone (which literally means you paid once for two users).

They do. IIRC, it is up to 5 phones at the same time. They all have to sign in to the same Live ID which means you have to share live contacts, calendar and email among those phones. Android is the similar (not sure about iOS but it probably is the same).
Correct. For the OP, hard reset your phone and try again. Login with the same Windows ID you used to download/purchase the apps the first tine and they will all be available.
Btw, for paid apps, there will be an option to purchase. Don't be afraid to click it. If you previously purchased the app, it will ask if you want to redownload. If you didn't purchase previously, if will ask you to confirm.
