Wrong forum i'd imagine, either way
Mount it from recovery, and on a win 7 machine (probably others but i dont know) you want to repair the disk without formatting it. This fixed it for me when i had similar trouble.

thanks i will give it a shot
This usually happens to me if I unplug the phone from the computer while in usb mode without using the eject disk feature in Windows 1st. Others have told me a few ways to fix it. The 1 above should work but you can also remove the card from the phone and connect it directly to phone and use check disk. Normally all I have to do is boot into RA recovery and toggle usb, wait a few seconds and then toggle back.
I had the same issue today. I just said fugg it and usked caulkins format all and then did the normal wipes and then flashed my rom again. I already had my apps backed up so it only took a bit to set the phone up. Weird thing is that I could still access SD card via disk drive on the phon.e The evo just couldnt see it thru the phone.
i have a rooted evo and i had miui rom on it and wanted to switch, but when i did the miui rom came back up,so i deleted it and when i did the phone went to hboot/recovery screen and i cant get out.i tried to hook up to my pc to try and put new rom on but pc cant get into my sd card and htc sync wont sync says andriod 1.0 cant be found. some plz hlp
have you tried going into recovery and mounting your phone to your computer with the usb ms option, that will put your phone as a disk drive on the computer, or take sd card out and place it on an adaptor and plug it to your pc copy the rom, and then put it back in your phone

You need to mount usb from recovery before your pc will find your phone. Htc sync only works when the device is booted to a sense rom. It won't work from aosp(miui), or from recovery.

, bummer, but if you can go into recovery, like your first post says, why dont you just restore your backup, i hope you did one its in every thread about rooting, back ups are your number one friend.

it sounds like your sd card might have gotten corrupted, which would suck, if you can get your hand on an adaptor and plug it to pc, there is an option to check it for errors, or if you know someone with an evo i would buy an sd card and put the rom in there with their phone and then put it back to your phone
how do you run ruu
check out this thread. hopefully it helps.

OMFG! Pull the sdcard, put it in another phone or a card reader. Put a new ROM on the card. Then put it back in your EVO. Reboot to Recovery. Wipe everything. Flash ROM.
Problem solved........
thx for the help got it
had to get a new sd card
Hello all,
Wanted to thank Wildstang for the 2.3.4 update, but I was messing around with my wife's phone that got a botched OTA update and accidentally used the CLEAR STORAGE function on HBOOT in order to clear the cache. Instead, I've cleared all of her data, which wouldn't be horrible accept that many of her pictures were still on the phone. Those she hasn't posted to Facebook may be gone forever.
Is there any way to recover this lost data? Otherwise I am probably headed to divorce town.
Right now the phone is sitting on my desk, I haven't touched anything accept connect it to the USB. The USB drives show up since I have the UnRevoked USB driver, but when I click on them they say "Please insert disk into drive x:". I was hoping not to uverwrite any deleted data in case it can be recovered, but considering it's flash memorey, I am probably more than hosed. Is that correct?
U can try running a recovery program like this http://www.piriform.com/recuva after you boot the phone and mount it to you PC. The app is pretty simple to use, just select the drive you want to try and recovery the info from. I hope it helps cuz I know "If the wife ain't happy, u ain't happy!"
Thanks, I'm trying that right now. I had another utility that asked me what file system is used. Does Android use FAT32? I know it doesn't use NTFS
I know that's what the SD card should be formatted to, I assuming the internal memory is the same.
Windows is saying the drives are empty. On the HTC, I get the picture of the phone with a red hazard symbol, like it's not being recognized...
Edit: I finally got the computer to recognize the "Android Boot Loader Interface" from HBOOT, but can I access the internal storage from here, or would I have to actually let the OS load up?
Did you have the phone fully boot or no? I know when I used the Clear storage function before I had to reboot the phone before my PC would recognize the drive...
I've now restarted the phone, but I get the same disk error as in the OP: "Please insert a disk into Removable Drive x:". There are two drives.
Edit: Looks like I get the same thing when I booted into RECOVERY from the HBOOT screen or when I initially load the phone (haven't done ANY set up to lessen chances of corruption of recoverable files). It's like they're registering as Removable Drives without any media inserted...
I'm assuming that you are mounting the phone after you plug it into your PC right? If you pull down the status bar you'll see the usb symbol, select it and make sure you select the mounting option...
Yeah, it looks set to Charge Only, and the only way I can change that is be starting to configure the phone. Just hoping I do a minimal amount of damage to any files I might be able to recover.

You get that message if you don't mount the drives. In recovery you have to navigate into advanced options and mount the sd card and emmc so that your PC will recognize the drives.
OK, so all is not lost
Apparently, when one uses the CLEAR STORAGE option, it clears user data, but retains the rest of the file structure... including my wife's beloved pictures
With VZ Backup Assistant and her Google account, I can recover all of her contacts. So I've lost SMS messages history and apps... and I'm OK with these. I think she'll be OK too now that she knows her pics are safe.
I've learned a few things today, and will manually move her pics to the SD Card after this, in case the tech support guy (me) makes any more bonehead mistakes trying to fix a half-baked VZ OTA update. If I can convince her to root her phone, Titanium Backup can take care of everything else in the future.
Regardless, thanks for the help jackbtha1

So are you or are you not able to boot in to recovery? Kinda confused. You said that you tried but no luck but then you rebooted and did a clear storage. So were you able to boot in to recovery the second time? If you can, do a full wipe and try flashing a different rom. You can download one to your PC, boot in to recovery, enable the usb drive, push the file to your phone and flash.
Ummm sorry for the confusion .... I'm talking about I held the volume down and power button to get to the screen I believe it's "bootloader" and tried to select recovery so maybe I can do a backup to wen it previously worked but no luck cause the phone wasnt reading the sd card with the backup on it! So I went back to the "bootloader" and did a "clear storage" it worked but the phone took forever to come on.... I did that about 2 times when the phone wouldnt boot pass the htc screen but now it no lingers works doing that! And to answer you guys question no I'm not able to boot in recovery just to bootloader with the options
Fast boot
Recovery
Clear storage
Reboot
USB hboot
If you guys are still confused let me know I will explain further more the phone will not access recovery at All!
As asked... what recovery did you load? Amon_RA or CWM? Also, what HW version do you have?
O I'm very sorry.... CMW
Hw info:
Android version 2.3.4
Baseband version 2.15.00.0808
Kernel version: [email protected] #1 Sat apr 30 04:36:42 edt 2011
Build number: MIUIAndroid 7.29
And to answer your previous question I don't know how to install a new recovery thru hboot .... I hope this helps you
If you can get to your sd card via a card reader to load a new recovery, then follow the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026. Otherwise, try this first to see if you can at least get sd access again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
Ok will try how do I get a card reader?
If you are on a laptop, most recent ones will have a slot for it and may even have the dock/reader to place it in. You can also get an external one that connects via USB at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack. Basically anywhere that sells SD cards. Usually around the camera section. You can also check tigerdirect.com or newegg.com if you can wait to receive it via mail. They usually have bargains that you can take advantage of. If this is your primary phone, then go to a store to get one so you can get your phone working.
Or if you can't get your hands on a card reader, you could stick your card in a different phone (old phone, friends phone, neighbors phone, phone at sprint store, whatever). Then download amonRa recovery from xda (download the PC36IMG version of it). Move it to the root of SD card (i.e. NOT in any folder) using some sort of file explorer on the borrowed phone.
Then put card back into your Evo, boot into bootloader (using power and volume down method you used earlier).
Bootloader should scan your card, find the PC36IMG, and ask if you want to do the update.
Hope this helps.

Ok thank you I'm going to do it in the morning will this still work for me even thou my phone won't read my sd card??
Your hboot/bootloader should still read your SD card fine. Unique problem, but should read fine. You remember which hboot version you have?
sent from AOKP heaven
No but I'll find out of you tell me how to
Well, not really necessary to know, unless you're trying to use some fastboot commands. But, you said you CAN still get into bootloader by holding volume and pressing power, right? Once in bootloader, it will say your hboot info in upper left corner.
In any case, follow the above info about getting recovery as a PC36IMG onto your SD somehow, and boot into bootloader. Good luck. Report back.

Okay, so. I have an HTC One M8, rooted, S-On, TWRP, whatever else. It was running just fine until yesterday or so, when I wanted to switch out an icon pack, but wanted to keep my stock launcher, so I found Unicon on the App Store, and downloaded it (along with the Minimal Hero/Hera Icon Pack, or whatever it was called). As soon as I installed it, I started having problems with my phone restarting randomly, and I disabled the Icon Pack in Unicon, and got rid of Unicon (disabling it in Xposed Installer and then uninstalling the app).
That didn't solve my problems, though. I managed to somehow keep the phone on after numerous restarts, but every time my phone was turned off, it went into the same constant restart cycle (where it restarts about a minute after it's booted up). I tried searching for ways to remedy the problem, ending up in the TWRP recovery, where I tried wiping the cache and the Dalvik cache, which didn't help. I also uninstalled Xposed Framework and before that, tried disabling all the Xposed modules, nothing helped.
As things stand now, I did a wipe on all the categories in TWRP (including cache, Dalvik cache, internal storage, system and data) and when I rebooted from recovery, my phone was stuck with the HTC boot logo. Now I'm just letting it sit on my bed, showing the boot logo, waiting for it to drain.
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: I did a factory reset (perhaps stupidly) and now, when I reboot it, it says "No OS is installed!". Since it's not showing up on my computer while in recovery, how should I proceed to flash the stock ROM?
when you wiped the system partition, you wiped the ROM.
You should put a stock ROM on your phone and flash it.
Follow one of the returning to stock guides.

Excuse my stupidity, but could you point me towards one of those? I was looking for that, but didn't really find anything helpful.
Also, I know how to flash a ROM in its simplest form, but my phone's not booting and I don't know how to get a ROM file onto the phone itself, because it doesn't show up in the computer when in recovery. How do I flash ROMs from the computer or whatever?

I'm sure the search tools on this forum work just as well for you as they do me. Or you could probably start at a sticky thread.
You could also search for "adb sideload" and "adb push".

I might have missed this but did you do a recovery? Within TWRP you have the option of storing it on internal storage, or the sd card. If you did the sd card way, there might be hope. Just hold down power and volume up and when the screen goes dark, hold power down to get into recovery, then restore the backup. If it was on internal storage, its probably gone, and if you didnt make one, well..wouldnt an RUU fix that?
Also you did more then a plain factory reset...that would still keep the os etc installed..you wiped that sucker completely clean

I suggest you make use of the external SD card and a USB card reader.

Yeah, I know. I was idiotic. I'm just kind of a newb to the whole scene, and I panicked when my phone started acting up. It was stupid to wipe system too.
And yeah, I have an SD card and my computer has a reader for it. I can access my SD card, but how do I install something on my SD card from recovery? As far as I can see, it only lets me install form internal storage.

Take the SD card out and put it onto your computer, download a ROM and place it on SD Card. Insert card back into phone, boot into recovery and change location path to external SD card. There is an option for that.
Location where ROM is... of course.

There is, actually, no option for that. I got the ROM adb pushed to my phone and got it flashed, though, so it's all good now (despite the fact that I idiotically made myself lose all my internal storage data).
Anyway, thanks for the help!

within twrp...where it says internal storage after you tap backup,.. tap those words Internal Storage, it will bring up 3 options..Internal Storage..MicroSD..or OTG I believe..I know mine does..I had 2.7.1.0 and which ever was below it allow that option. I know. I swear, I tried, didn't seem to work. Maybe something else's amiss elsewhere. In any case, I got it adb pushed to the internal storage, so it's all alright, phone's fine now. I'll look into the microSD thing, but I'm still glad I learned a bit more about Android in the process of recovering my device (because it's a path where most is yet untrodden for me).
And yeah, being on xda as such a newbie is sort of daunting, especially as I'm pretty impatient with people who don't understand as well something that I do, but I always hope for at least one paragon who helps, and helps with patience and friendliness (which I did get, so thank god).
